The staff here are all super friendly and the store itself is spacious and clean. From fresh produce, floral department, to the hot bar, and desserts, there's something for everyone. The poke bar here is quite tasty and it's nice that you can make your own bowl. They also have a great Happy Hour offering at the bar with a variety of food options and wine selections. There is underground Parking which you can get validated. Without validation, it is $3 each 15 minutes or $39 maximum. You take the escalator or elevators up from the parking to get to the store. Stopped to grab lunch. We hadn't been to Gelson's in years. The lady at the Deli was very kind and made our sandwiches perfectly. We also enjoyed the fresh side salads we got. On the way out we grabbed coffee and a cookie from the baker Juan was also very personable. The store has plenty of parking on the street (metered) and a parking lot they validate for. It's a gourmet grocery store showdown! I went to Bristol Farms, Erewhon, and Gelson's on the Westside to see which one reigns supreme when it comes to snacks and prepared foods. Tagline: "Life Tastes Better Here" Initial thoughts: Cool mixed use concept, with Gelson's as one of the main tenants at the West Edge complex. Can see residents and office workers coming here on their lunch breaks. Nice plaza with lots of tables and seating areas. Experience: Underground parking is free with validation. Take the escalator or elevator up to the ground level. Received a friendly good morning from a staff member, everyone else was also courteous. The bakery is near the self check-out area. It was pretty empty on a Friday morning at 8AM. Spacious overall. Some hot foods were available but not many grab and go meals at this time. Poke bar, salad bar, entrees, soups, etc. were empty. Most of their products are familiar name brands, with a few local and premium items. Food: The Röckenwagner Bakery brioche one bite buns were not soft or fluffy like I thought they would be. Their cold pressed fruit juice smoothie was average. I got a couple cans of La Colombe for a coworker, they said the triple draft latte was good. This is actually the first time I've stepped foot into a Gelson's since I have lived in LA County for the past few months. This new location is in West LA at West Edge. So very trendy, clean and bright with a wide variety of gourmet items! If I lived or worked in this complex, I'd definitely be a regular at Gelson's. After taking a photo with Jason and Blaine, I immediately noticed the Poke Bar and the free samples. Yum! I will keep this in mind when I'm craving for poke! Service was great. The newest Gelson's is located on Bundy and Olympic in the West Edge building, a mixed residential and retail space. There is an underground parking lot. The entrance sign says "West Edge". Inside the parking lot, there was no clear signage, that I could find, saying where the market is located. There is no Gelson's entrance underground (you have to go up an escalator or elevator to get to the market). Thus, I was not sure where to park or where to go after parking to access the market. While Gelson's does validate, it is only for 90 minutes which was not enough time for me to do a big shopping trip between February rain storms while trying to find items in a new market I've never been to before. All the other markets I've gone to that validate have at least two hours minimum with validation which is usually sufficient. I went a few minutes over 90 minutes ($3). I paid at the machine outside of the Gelson's elevators. However, when I went to exit, the exit machine tried to charge me again. I had to get the attendant and explain that I already paid in order to be let out. After much back and fourth, he finally opened up the gate It was a rattling experience that should not have happened. Truth be told, the parking lot was the only negative about this place. The market is big and beautiful. The staff is eager to please and were also very friendly and chatty. It felt like a neighborhood market. They have a lot of ready made food options including a large deli, pizza by the slice, sandwich making, bowl assembly, and lots of good looking grab and go food. There's a hot food section, a poke bar, and a salad bar. Everything looked very fresh and delicious. They even have a juicing department which I thought was cool and super unique. I also really admired their floral department. There were lots of options to choose from including some potted cacti which is a rare but extremely awesome offering. Aisles were clean, well-stocked, and well-organized. Lots of great, high quality merchandise to choose from down every aisle. Loved their cheese section in the back and it is appropriately placed next to the wine. Another distinctive feature of this particular Gelson's is the oil and vinegar tasting section. A noteworthy addition! Lastly, they have a Victor Benes Bakery here with lots of beautiful cakes and cookies. They had free samples of lemon cake to try. Delicious. Checkout was super easy. I used some of my Gelson's coupons and I also used the app to get points for my purchase. Gelson's is pricey so it was nice to save. I did call the market after my visit and spoke to the manager, Pablo, about the parking situation. He was so sweet and understanding and really, really lovely. The customer service here is so awesome! He said he'd address my concerns about the parking and promised to generously make it up to me when I return. Though I have not yet returned, I really appreciated his customer service and problem solving skills. I decided to only subtract one star for my experience in the parking lot. It definitely put a damper on my experience at this Gelson's so it has to be acknowledged as part of the review. However, after speaking to Pablo, I realized that the parking is something the market needs to address with the property and not necessarily something Gelson's has total control over. I really do hope they are able to improve the parking experience to make it more inviting for the general public to visit this Gelson's location. The market itself is absolutely lovely. read more

Beautiful store! Gelson's is always clean and super nice but this one tops them all! Spacious and bright with natural lighting, great variety of groceries and products, clean deli and self serve food areas, all of these made this store a SUPER supermarket! It is located at the bottom floor of a new mix use (commercial and residential) building at the corner of Olympic and Bundy. Parking is underground - spacious, clean, and easy. And they validate. We love their fresh produce- found more salad packages than most other markets. The cheese counter is pretty impressive too. Staff were friendly and efficient. Overall a very pleasant shopping experience! The only reason I didn't give them a 5-star was the price level. Many items are twice the price you'd find in other stores. Even at sale prices, they were still a bit high. That said, I think their quality is very good. And they have brands and varieties other stores don't have. I'll definitely come back and shop here.... I live just up the block from the new store in West l.a. Love fish, so I dropped in to pick up some coho salmon. I asked the black guy in the fish section for a third a pound and was told I can't sell you that, it's too small. I was stunned. Is he serious I thought. I complained to a female employee and she walked me back to the fish. The black guy was gone now. Someone else cut me my fish. Really? REALLY! Very overpriced, limited in high standard quality of food, especially in Poké bar, considering how rude the staff is i.e. Vanessa. Rather spend money down the street at either Whole Foods Trader Joe's, or Ralphs then spend money here with such an incredibly rude management. The Poké bar itself tasted very chewy and rubbery like it was old and not the freshest of fish. Regardless, why does such a nice store in such an expensive area not higher management that is considered and polite to the customers? So many of the products that I have seen or purchased here have been at least 20% and sometimes more cheaper than what they have marked up at this expensive store with rude management. read more

Instead of heading to the one on Lincoln, maps found me this one that was thankfully closer. I was fortunate enough to follow a Gelsons truck to the entrance off of Olympic, so as they went to the loading dock, I made my way to self-parking, pulled a ticket and made a left. Plenty of parking was available, and it wasn't too hard to find the entrance (I did see escalators but took the elevator up). This store is so bright and clean! I did come in for something specific, but wish I had more time to look around. I found what I needed and went to an actual register since I needed to take out cash. Service was good at this point, and I took the escalator back down. I forgot to validate but I was there under 15 minutes. Judging by reviews, it appears they do validate for 90 minutes. Was curious to see when they opened and seems as though it was late last year. I'm really not down this way too much since the big bed bath beyond closed, but I will be making an effort to check out the rest of this Gelson's! (As you leave, this required me to take back my ticket to lift the gate which I found odd, so just pay attention after you insert the ticket.) read more

Not surprisingly, Gelson's which recently opened in West LA is quite spectacular. It is the best of the best of the best-but at a cost. From the Pizza by the slice counter to the liquor and wine section to the tantalizing bakery everything is as you'd expect at Los Angeles premier grocery. The adjacent Wine Bar cafe is beautiful with a great menu. Everyone I encountered was polite and professional. The crowd is interesting as it's next door to Riot Games headquarters and Icon Fitness to name a few. Finally, the outdoor seating is artsy and inviting. I'm a Gelson's fan but not of this branch/store. As other people have noted in their comments the staff in the store can be quite rude and unhelpful. There are some that are helpful, but it's a rare occasion. I will shop elsewhere - just not worth the hassle. Too bad because they have plentiful parking here. read more

Honestly, I was thrilled that a Gelson's opened in WLA as I love Gelson's and have been going to the one in Century City since I was a little girl. But, this one, no matter how many chances I've given it.....is just SUBPAR. I recently ordered one of their Holiday meals and tell me why (pictures attached) this would be acceptable? Pieces of green everywhere on the ham that I would need to brush off in order to serve. How did it get there? Then upon further inspection, the ham smelled sour, pungent. Did not want to take any chances so did not serve. Thank goodness I had backup as I ordered extra ham on the side and I was shocked when I got home because of how different the two were: the one that came with the meal was dirty and spoiled. And the extra I got at the store that they carved was fresh and honey-glazed. I never should've ordered the meal. I should've just ordered the ham. I'm really disappointed and disgusted. And now Victor Benes. There's is the ONLY chocolate cake I eat: The Chocolate Parisian. I never liked chocolate cake until my 16th birthday when I was given a whole cake and from that time on I was in love. The BEST. The CC branch has slices. WLA does not. They sold me on the Yulelog which they said is "the same". On the contrary. The Yulelog was dry and stale. Not enough chocolate frosting. A waste. Same with their Chocolate Raspberry slice. Again, I'm disappointed. REALLY disappointed. This was for Christmas. Instead, I was served dirty old ham and stale cake. I can't recommend this place. I don't believe based on experience, that their food is always fresh. *I still can't get over the ham; that's not how you serve your customer, with bits and pieces of trash....was the ham leftovers? Listen, this is an upscale grocery store with higher pricing .. so come here expecting that. I don't buy all my groceries here but do think it's worth it to get some staples. It's clean, convenient, and the employees are very polite and helpful! What I really wanted to mention is their poke bar. Let me just say .. WOW. The fish is fresh, topping choices are ample, and it's priced by weight (meaning you have full autonomy of creating your poke bowl). I was pleasantly surprised by this new gelsons location. I have been a loyal customer at the palisades location for many years but this location is closer to me. The store is spacious and seems to have a wider selection of pantry and frozen foods. The only downside was that the pre package deli meat was basically empty of selection at 7pm and it's a bit difficult to access the parking lot during rush hour. read more

I love this grocery store. I just stopped by for the first time this past weekend and I was truly amazed. I love grocery store shopping in my free time -- there's something so peaceful about it. First of all, the parking was super easy, and with validation after I was in there for about an hour, it was free. I would say that everything is quite reasonably priced, especially as a specialty food store in Los Angeles. I managed to snag a couple of things off of the day old baked goods shelf and they're still lasting and of very high quality. Some of the highlights were spotting a new Chobani yogurt that was new to market, a variety of Seattle-based grocery goods (where I'm from), and the balsamic and olive oil on tap -- usually you have to go to an oil and vinegar store for that! This is a follow up to my review from December of 2023. A few points to consider before reading my review: - I have been to the store around 12 to 15 times since the original review - I am not an influencer - I do not have a relationship with anyone affiliated with Gelson's, either at the West L.A. store, any other store, or at corporate. The service that I have received since preparing a review 3 months ago is similarly outstanding. The cleanliness of the store is impeccable and the layout of the stores creates a pleasurable and efficient shopping experience. In terms of personnel: - Pablo, the store manager, remains upbeat, personable, and helpful as always, as do his assistants (Note: Vanessa is the one name that I recall) - Juan, the bakery manager, continues to be super friendly, always present with a smile and, if my timing is good, a tasty sample. - Hudson, who manages the floral section, continues to create beautiful bouquets and arrangements at cost-effective prices. - Check is always quick, there are no long lines, and the staff are friendly. Some new experiences: - Because my office is close by, I've been walking to lunch on wednesdays. The sandwiches and the to go sushi are fresh, the portions are solid, and the prices are reasonable. - I've tried the wine bar on 1 occasion. The service was good and the wines were reasonably priced. On 1 occasion, the regional wine manager (Note: I believe his name was Tyler), was kind enough to educate me about Gelson's line of wine and offered me some samples. One wine was a blend and the other, if memory serves, was a Bordeaux style wine. Both were very good and reasonably priced. Interestingly, I noticed some negative reviews. Typically, I am hesitant to comment on other reviews because each individual can have a different experience; however, given that I have been to this store so many times, I must say that I am skeptical. To date, each employee with whom I have interfaced has been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, particularly the store managers. My interactions have only been positive. When my employees have picked up groceries or food at the store, they have been similarly impressed. In summary, and from my perspective, Shopping at this Gelson's has been an absolute pleasure. While I am skeptical of the negative reviews, I would encourage readers of this review to shop at the store a few times and form their own perception of the store. It's just a grocery store, right? Well, take a step back and think about it one more time. My wife and I needed to pick up some groceries so we pulled into the West Los Angeles Gelson's. We were both surprised to see a cool looking restaurant within the store. We thought we would try it; what do we have to lose? Well, we were both proven wrong. We have since been back one more time and it validated our first experience. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. This time, we had sushi. The Sushi Chef, Takashi, is an artist. His presentation of his Sushi is beautiful, and it was absolutely delicious. Their choice of wine is excellent, and the beer on tap is spot on. I especially love the Mayberry and the Tapo Tapo Blue Haven. Regardless of whether you get Chris, Hanna, Maya, or Fatima, you are in excellent hands with their cheerful welcome and happy demeanor throughout the service. So, my recommendation is to stop in, have a quick plate of sushi and beer or wine, and enjoy the evening... even though you are in a grocery store. ;-) read more

Don't expect your free-range organic rotisserie chickens to taste like they ought to. These particular chickens are at least sometimes being cooked at the bottom of the oven, which means that the (non-organic) ingredients from the other chickens are dripping onto them and altering the flavor, etc. Idk how often this occurs, but this has continued despite two previous complaints to the deli mgrs. and a subsequent discussion with Vanessa (Asst. Mgr.), who assured me this would not continue to happen. The problem occurred again yesterday, however, which was my FIRST time buying one since my discussion with Vanessa. This review is for the Viktor Benes bakery. I recently ordered a birthday cake over the phone and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The person I spoke with was so helpful, listened carefully to what I was looking for, asked me to email some photos, and that was it. The cake we received was perfect - it was exactly what I had been hoping for, like they read my mind. My child and all the party guests loved it, and it was delicious, too. The price was reasonable compared to bakeries of this quality. I highly recommend this Viktor Benes location. read more
