Gema Raspados was pretty good at first, we didn't have much choice with the northern side of Tucson. However, the past few times we've gone it's been less than great. Mostly the raspados lacking in fruit and mainly consisting of 2/3 ice. A bit pricy too. Either way the people are nice, I would rather go out of my way to spend less money and get more. read more

Not sure why they have low rating. I had a good first experience. I actually feel ashamed I did not know there is a raspados place in north Tucson so close to home. I had been going to south in the city all this while to get raspados. Got the macedonia and hawaiino. Both were pretty good. The hawaiino was a little low on pineapple syrup though. The guy running the place was super friendly. He was wearing a mask. There are two tables set up outside the shop, in case you dont want to sit inside amidst this pandemic. First time here and it was delicious! I had to wait for my car to be done at Discount Tire, so my kids and I walked around the little center. I had the Piña Raspado and the kids had cotton candy ice cream in a cone. The raspado was delicious with plenty of pineapple pieces and perfect amount of shaved ice. My kids loved the cotton candy ice cream and are already asking me if we can go back to try more. Employee was friendly and patient. It was a beautiful day so we ate outside at the little table and chairs and enjoyed watching adorable dogs go into the animal grooming place next door. I originally came to get a raspado since I have never had one before. My friends ordered first so I tried theirs and both of them didn't taste very good at all. The vanilla wasn't very vanilla flavored and the strawberry was way too syrupy tasting and overly sweet. I decided to opt-out after trying theirs. I decided to order a fresas con crema instead. They use frozen strawberries, cream, and strawberry syrup with whipped cream on top. It was ok, not the best I've had. I would have preferred nonfrozen strawberries, no syrup, and some peanuts or granola in it for some crunch. My friend was craving raspados and this was the closest one so we came here. Loved it. Got the tostihuates and viejas. Kids each got a raspado, chemisse and chicle. Everything was great. Generous toppings on the chips and the raspado flavoring was perfect. We're really excited to find this so close to home! No line while we were there but they were really busy preparing to go stuff. Terrible service, waited inside for 10 minutes before we were even noticed. while the little girl was on her phone didn't even apologize that we waited. Just like the other reviews you've read here we got some real attitude. Only one girl was working when we pulled up and she was sitting on the bench smoking a cigarette and playing on her telephone. The practically had to bend over backwards with kindness to get her to come in and help us out. My partner actually asked her to wash her hands and she showed us the bathroom to wash ours. She politely encouraged the worker to wash her hands saying to her since she just got done smoking her hands might need washing and the girl went in and complied. As far as our treats: I first asked if they had any paletas... which for those who don't know is a wonderful fruit popsicle sold all over Mexico and some come with cream and fruit in them. The girl looked at me like she didn't even understand what I was asking for, and then told me no we don't have them. I changed gears and had a salty treat called Pico de Gallo with jicama, watermelon and cucumbers topped with a Chili salt. (I'm so glad she washed her hands because she had to cut everything up and touch everything.) My partner had a fruit and ice cream treat with berries and pineapple and an icy slush. It was just bland and tasteless. My veggies were limp and the flavors were not there. The dining area itself was sparse and didn't look visually clean, but it smelled pretty strong of Fabulosa. I got the Crazy mix, chips were stale, gummy Mexican candy hard.. and there's no ice in this whatsoever. Everything was uncovered except for the chips(which were stale) and cucumber. It seems this must be ok because of the area but this does not compare to raspado locations in south Tucson. I also picked up strawberry/mango raspados, there was literally MAYBE 5 pieces of fruit at the top on the cup. Should have just been considered aguas frescas. read more

I was between 3 and 4 stars for here. I love supporting small business and I appreciate the hard work they put into their store. I also love the flavors of Raspado and the fact that they'll make a small one into 2 little cups for me (so my twin 4-year-olds can each share 1...they don't need a whole one of their own). That being said, I really wish the ice was shaved a bit more. It's definitely crunchy as you eat it. They give you a spoon & a straw for the raspado, but there's no way you can drink it out of a straw (you'd drink all the syrup out - the ice is too thick to fit through). If they could get a better ice shaver machine thing, they'd get 5 stars for sure, but without that, they're stuck at 4. read more

We stopped by today because my daughter had been craving a raspado for the past couple of days. We are not to familiar with raspados except the mangoyada which I ordered. I asked if they put ice cream in it and of course they charge extra for it! Every where else I've ordered a mangoyada there's ice cream with it. Anyway, my daughter ordered a tamarindo raspado but once she saw it she realized she had ordered the incorrect drink. I told the cashier who I believe is the owner that she had ordered the wrong one and the lady said, sorry you'll have to pay for another. My daughter didn't even take a drink out of it. Considering I've worked in costumer services for years you would think they would just remake the drink for us but of course they did not. She threw the tamarindo out made a new chamoyada (that they don't have on the menu but do know how to make) and charged me for the new drink. This raspado place needs to learn how to just eat the cost of ice and syrup and have good costumer service and just make a new one. I'd almost think she charged for another one because looking at previous reviews they don't get very much business. Be sure u know what ur ordering cause if you don't they'll just toss out what u ordered incorrectly and charge for a new one. It's worth driving to the Southside. I decided to try this place out since it is close to where I live. First off, there was no greeting how can I help you just a blank stare. I ordered a large strawberry raspado. I asked if they have ice cream and they said no. They handed me a small raspado and I told them I ordered a large and they looked at me as if I lied to them and I was trying to get something free. When the lady took it back I said, "can you please put a little more strawberries there was only a few pieces". She hands me my large raspado with 3 pieces of strawberry with lots of ice and a small amount of juice. I basically had ice for a treat. For $8 I feel a little cheated out of what I should have received for that price. The customer service is horrible, the quality of raspado is poor. They skimp out on product and expect you to pay their price for that is ridiculous. I will not be back again. Went to Gemas for the first time on Tuesday with a friend who recommended the Raspados. More like Mangoyada. When we arrived we were disappointed because they were not open. We waited for a few minutes and before we left we decided to check their FB page to see maybe they posted any info on why they were closed. There was no info so I left a message asking if they would be opening soon. She responded quickly and apologized for the inconvenience but she had just had her house broken into and a car stolen. I said no worries and I wished her well and told we'd be back on another day. She responded again quickly and said she was leaving the car rental place and would be there in 20 minutes. We decided what the heck we might as well wait. Let me just say it was well worth the wait. The owner was so kind and polite despite of what had just happened to her. She prepared our order with a smile and carried on a great conversation while doing so. I had a mangoyada and Tostitos covered in ceviche and my friend had the Birria and Tostitos and a Nuez. I love this place, it definitely deserves a 5 star. read more
