My friends and I decided on getting sushi for dinner and came across Gen Sushi, and what a treat. We enjoyed an incredible dinner here at Gen Sushi. The fish was incredibly fresh and the we loved how each dish looked coming out. Everything we tried was so flavorful, even the oysters which I'm always skeptical about at new restaurants. The restaurant was spacious and was easily able to seat all of us. Loved the decor and the service was great. Highly recommend Gen Sushi as my next favorite local sushi spot. Will be coming back soon.

Came here to celebrate my partner's sisters birthday. There was plenty of seating around 7:45pm. Service was prompt on a Friday night, especially since my partner's mom was able to converse in Mandarin with the waiters. We ordered two "rice less" rolls which was delicious and rich in flavor -- the Hudson River roll and the passion city roll. I loved that they didn't even need soy sauce or ginger. They were good with the sauce provided! Since we were celebrating, we got the love boat which had California rolls, eel special rolls, nigiri, and sashimi (chef's choice). It came with tuna, salmon, white tuna, and yellow tail as the choice of fish. The fish had super thick cuts and were very fresh from the counter. I love the sashimi with a squeeze of lemon and with soy sauce and wasabi. They even surprised us with a little birthday sparkler on top of a strawberry mochi cut up for the table. The mochi needed a little more time to thaw out but it's ok, it's the thought that counts. Overall, a great place if you're looking for sushi. If you are carb conscious, they've got you covered!! Though I didn't get to try it tonight, I'd try their rainbow Naruto roll next time which is tuna, yellow tail, and salmon sashimi wrapped in a thin cucumber wrap -- had it before elsewhere and it's delicious!

Dined in on a weekend night. Tried making reservation but no one answered the phone. Plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. They were pretty busy so it took a while for the server to take our order but after that the service was good. The gyoza was very good. California roll was a 3/10 just not that fresh. The soup and salad were very good and the hibachi chicken was okay. They didn't have yummy sauce and the ginger sauce was just salad dressing. The food was okay and the service was good. We did see a staff member pull out a five gallon bucket from a fridge, put it in the floor, and ladle salad dressing into another container that was also on the floor. This was pretty gross and in full view of the dining area.

The food Gen Sushi is unbelievably fresh and bursting with flavor--each bite melts in your mouth, perfectly balanced and expertly prepared. The presentation is stunning, like a work of art. Highly recommended for an unforgettable dining experience! !

So this is the nasu which was 6 only a few months ago and is now 10.00 i understand inflation .... 10.00!!!! LAST TIME.

So this is the Nasu which I had ordered numerous times. This went from 6 to 10. Seriously 10 dollars for this. There is a lot of GREAT restaurants out there .. this is not one of them. Ordered many times on the past and even gave a great review in the past. Between this and the last time them charging me 30 more for my order last time until I called back and spoke to a manager/owner to ask why so much and was explained this was a tip... NOW THIS!! Last time!!! Order elsewhere !!!!

The food here is the best sushi and hibachi in town! Service is unbelievable. Sushi bar is well stocked with great exotic types of fish. From live scallop to uni. It's a home run. Food is delicious and at a fair price. Recommend anyone to come.

I stopped here for lunch as it is close to another establishment I frequent. Given the general reviews I figured this could go extremely well or extremely poorly. Overall the experience I had was fine. I decided on the Sushi roll lunch special. I did 2 regular rolls and one of the chef rolls. I also tend to go more fish and less "cooked shrimp / vegetable". The portion size of the rolls was fine ad pricing was fair. In short the meal was good. It wasn't the most amazing sushi I ever had, nor was it anywhere near the worse. Staff was friendly and fairly quick to service. Overall I was happy with the experience. In short Gen as it comes to sushi is fine. If you are in the area and really in the mood for it, you should be OK with this choice. I wouldn't go out of my way, but I wasn't regretting the decision for sushi either.

Thanks to a random yelp search, I found this sushi place as I was looking for dinner after work! This place is not bad! Didn't seem like it was too busy, but the sushi was pretty fresh-tasting. We got the Agedashi Todu (great appetizer), Dragon Roll, and the Salmon Sampler.

Pleasantly surprised with this restaurant situated in the typical suburban strip mall. I was traveling in the area from work and found this place online. We walked in and sat at the sushi bar and the service was great. Will the manager/owner was super friendly and let us know about some specials. We went for the few specials on the rolls and they were great. We also tried their fried rice, hakka noodles and scallion pancakes. Everything we tried was very good. Simple, fresh, and great service earned this place 5 stars.

Huge fan of sushi -- second time coming here & sitting at the sushi bar. First of all Ken who was our sushi chef surprised us with a complimentary kani salad which is the first time I was given something on the house but also never had a kani salad before. So basically started off my epic Gen sushi experience with one of the best salad appetizers I've ever had at any sushi restaurant -- it was crisp, refreshing, tasty & had a decent kick. I went with a very standard order but with one caveat -- because we are sitting at the sushi bar -- the moment Ken our sushi chef compiled the art that he calls sushi -- we would eat it, being that incredibly freshly cut straight on our pallet & in our mouths -- there is no comparison. I was celebrating so of course have to have a traditional crab item. Everything was 10/10 from cleanliness the attentiveness of the staff, and the incredibly quick service by ken are sushi. Chef could not ask for anything more.

However, we recently had a craving for sushi on a Saturday evening, and I called to place a pick-up order. The woman that answered the phone was very friendly, and, when I arrived to gather my order, she was just as pleasant. In fact, as I left the restaurant with my food, the sushi chefs even wished me well. In terms of the space, it was definitely on the smaller side with only a few tables, but a decent-sized sushi bar. The atmosphere was casual, but it was decorated nicely enough to work as a dine-in spot also. We had ordered a few rolls to share, and when I got home with the bag, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant had thrown in two complimentary soups and two salads. The miso soups were creatively served in paper coffee cups with plastic lids, which managed to work perfectly, because, since it was a cooler evening, I wound up drinking my broth like a beverage. In fact, to that end, it was more like a drink, since we only received two small squares of tofu and a piece of seaweed in each of ours. Regardless, the soup tasted good, though the seaweed was a bit off the usual color. The side salads were not great. The lettuce was wilted, and there were way too many onions. The dressing was also a bit more tangy than other ginger dressings I had had. In terms of the rolls, we ordered one standard and two specialty offerings to share. The common Eel Avocado Roll was packed with fish and large slices of avocado, and it was honestly one of the better versions of this variety that we had had. The Super Fire Roll included yellowtail and scallion inside, which was then topped with torched tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and fresh jalapeño. The color of the yellowtail was on the pink side, which at first gave me pause, but research proved was actually fine. Aside from that, I thought it was a tasty roll. Our last one was the Princess Christiana Roll, which had a center of crabmeat, avocado, and cucumber, as well as toppings of baked salmon, eel sauce, and an actual salad with lettuce, crabmeat, and tobiko. Now, the restaurant had a massive list of unique rolls, which made it hard to select what to order, but this one seemed like one of the most unique of the bunch. I had never seen fully-cooked salmon used in sushi, nor had I ever seen a roll topped with a mound of salad. While the fish all seemed fresh, some of the avocado was browning, and the lettuce was once again wilted. In this case, I would have said that the greens might have gotten too warm on top of the baked fish, but the side salad was just as limp. In addition, we had ordered the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and jalapeno appetizer, which we just ate along with the maki rolls. The rice patty could have been crunchier and the fish could have been pinker in color, but it tasted fine overall. We agreed that Johnny Roll House had some positive and some negative points. While we had had better sushi elsewhere, their food was still good, which meant that we could keep it as an option if we were looking for a sushi spot. (Speaking of, I should note that they did not offer many cooked Japanese items, aside from Beef Teriyaki.)

The pepper tuna was a highlight--perfectly seasoned with just the right balance of spice, and sliced thick enough to really enjoy the texture. I've been ordering from Koi 21 for years, but had never actually gone there to eat in (side note,…read morethe delivery experience with Koi is also amazing). Upon finally heading there to actually sit in the restaurant and eat, I was really pleasantly surprised. Koi is tucked away from the main stretch of restaurants in Pearl River and has its own parking lot which is an added plus. The interior of the space is really pretty - they actually have a koi pond with waterfall inside, which gives a really pretty vibe and they even have these tucked away spaces for more private dining as well. The staff is so friendly and attentive - your drink never gets close to empty before they're asking if you want a refill and the food comes out quickly. The food itself is DELICIOUS - definitely my go-to sushi spot in the area with a great variety, so if you're not a sushi fan, there's still hibachi and a lot of cooked dishes too, so there is something for everyone. The price for value is wild - the portions are big and the quality is always excellent. Some of my favorites are the crab rangoon, the veggie gyoza, tuna pizza, the rock shrimp (basically a bang bang shrimp that is SO delicious), and honestly any of the sushi rolls (the OMG and Crazy Tuna specialty rolls are always a hit and I always love a Philly roll with avocado and cucumber as well). There is a minimal upcharge for brown rice, which is my go-to. Another plus is that Koi has a full bar. The wine by the glass options are okay, but the lychee martini I had was decent! Not the best, but still a bonus and nice to have. I will still order delivery from Koi, but will also make more of an effort to get here for the great service, food, and atmosphere!

While I do love the duck breast and lamb chops included with the Classic package, we all felt Essentials was enough for this visit. Celia was our waitress. While things were a little slow getting started, once our first order went in, the food started flying out. Everything we ordered throughout the evening arrived much faster than it did on my previous visit. The menu makes it sound like they'll throttle you to only a couple of items at a time, but that really wasn't our experience. We were consistently able to order several items per person, so there was always something on the grill, more food on the way, and plenty to keep us chomping away. Our favorites this time? The top blade, brisket, hanger steak, pork belly, and even the salmon ceviche, which was surprisingly refreshing between rounds of grilled meat. We did have a couple of hiccups, but Celia was eager to make things right. After we received the wrong shrimp twice, she took it upon herself to get the manager involved. They tracked down the correct shrimp and brought it out. Thanks! Speaking of the manager, Andy was terrific. Unfortunately, we never even got to eat at the restaurant because of how disorganized the front desk was. We were quoted a 35-45 minute wait and were told to join the Yelp waitlist. We stood nearby the entire time waiting to be called. We never received any notification on our phones, and when we checked the app, our status had somehow changed from "waiting" to "cancelled." When we spoke with the hostess, she apologized and told us to wait because she would seat us next. Instead, we watched four other parties get seated before us. After waiting even longer, we went back to ask what was happening, only to be told it would be another 15-20 minutes. From what we observed, it also seemed like the restaurant was prioritizing seating larger parties over smaller ones. I can't say for certain whether that was their policy, but that's certainly how it appeared from our experience as multiple larger groups were seated while we continued to wait despite being told we were next. I completely understand that popular restaurants get busy, and I have no issue waiting my turn. What I do have an issue with is poor communication and disorganization from the hostess team. Mistakes happen, but telling customers they'll be seated next and then repeatedly seating other parties first is unacceptable. To make matters worse, this was our second night this weekend trying to eat here, and once again we left without ever getting a table. Despite the inconvenience and poor experience, no one offered an apology beyond a brief acknowledgment, nor was there any attempt to make things right or show goodwill for the time we had wasted. The food may be excellent, but we'll never know because the front-of-house experience was so poorly managed. A great restaurant starts with good customer service, and unfortunately, the hostess team left a very poor first impression. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.
