Came here NYE, found the service slow and food bland. Nothing really was outstanding and several dishes were bland and doused with the same sauce. Meats like chicken and pork were dry and overcooked. Since the restaurant was practically empty, Im not sure if this was an off night

We love us a good AYCE sashimi/sushi restaurant and No.1 Sushi mostly hit the mark. Our family of 4 came by for a Thursday dinner (before Good Friday) at around 6pm and the restaurant was pretty quiet as only a few tables were occupied. Before we arrived, we already knew what our objective was when we arrived - AYCE! No need to review the regular menu, just straight to the AYCE fill in sheets! When it came down to actually ordering off of the AYCE menu, the menu sheet was very, very typical of all of the AYCE sashimi/sushi restaurants we had been to over the years - salads/appetizers/soups/noodles on one menu and sashimi/sushi/rolls on the other - and order AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE! (as long as you can put it down) As for the food? Solid. We have to admit it wasn't the freshest AYCE sashimi/sushi we ever had, but it was still decent. We pretty much ordered a ridiculous number of pieces of every single sashimi they offered, plus some salads and appetizers to wet our beaks before the actual gorging of sashimi/sushi. However, and this will shock you, the BEST part of our meal was the dessert! YES, dessert at the AYCE sushi restaurant. Of course, they had red bean and green tea ice cream, BUT they also served fried bananas and fried oreos, which were amazeballs with the ice cream. As of March 2024, it's $32.99 per adult on weekends, which is a bit on the steep side, but if you have kids 3 and under, they are free. Service was good at first when the restaurant was empty, but when they got busy, it came to an absolute crawl because of the lack of waitresses, so put your AYCE orders in early! Other than that, come here hungry!

Came back for the second time on a Saturday afternoon without reservation. we were seated fast. Not a lot of people. We did not wait long for our food. Hot food was served hot & the sushi & rolls came out fresh. Parking is free. Price is reasonable. around 80 bucks with tip for 2 people. Worth driving from nyc to get here.

So I'm only in town visiting but a friend from many years ago invited me to meet him here. Says he enjoys coming here to do the all you can eat sushi when he has new people to take. So I went! Plenty of parking out in the parking lot on a Thursday evening. It's not a private lot and shared by others but it was easy to find a spot. They were pretty busy around 7:00 p.m. but we got seated a couple minutes later. You fill out the form of what you want and many appetizers and other things are included with the all you can eat. I think soft drinks are also included. Anyway so we filled it out and sent in an order. We wish we would have got some appetizers because it took a really long time for us to get our sushi. We had an assortment of rolls and they were a little bit smaller. So we immediately ordered up another batch. I was glad they took the order even though we were still eating our current order. Overall everything was pretty good minus the size. Tasted fresh enough. When we said we were ready to leave, the waitress reminded us that dessert was included so we got some of that. In the end, it was a great place! Good ambience and good to take friends to. Lots of groups of people there. I would definitely return but I feel like the rolls could be a little bit bigger and they probably need to warn people that it could take a while to get your food.

This is probably my favorite all you can eat sushi place in the area. They serve high quality rolls and the sashimi is always very fresh. This would be 5-stars for the food but the service is a little spotty. I have been to this restaurant over 20 times at this point and majority of the time the service is subpar. This mostly includes missing items that were ordered or forgetting to bring out kitchen items. I think they have very high quality sushi rolls but not being able to count on service is a let down so I often do not recommend this place to others with the worry that their experience will be bad considering the service. The dining area is clean and has a lot of seating so there is hardly ever a long wait! I do love the sushi here but the spotty service prevents me from coming here more often.

Came here for lunch on a weekend as soon as they opened and we were the only group there. With that being said, I was surprised at how slow the service was. We did the AYCE option, so even though the portions were small, we continued ordering. We started ordering while we were still eating because we realized how slow the service was. It seemed like it took forever for the server to come around and clear the empty plates and offer another round of drinks. Aside from the slow service, we really enjoyed the food and how fresh the sushi tasted. I'm always weary of trying a new sushi spot, especially when I don't know the quality of the fish they use. We had no issue with the quality and thought everything was fresh and delicious. Would definitely come back for the food if the service was not as slow.

Came here for all you can eat sushi and was not disappointed! The rolls are a bit small, but honestly more ideal since you can order as much as you want. The fish tasted fresh. I give a ton of credit to the wait staff as the restaurant was packed but they were constantly moving to serve everyone. The place gets loud, but tables are far enough apart where you really don't really notice. Overall, great experience and will definitely be coming back.

It's an intimate spot with only four teppanyaki tables, and we were seated promptly. My family has been going to hibachi for over 50 years to celebrate special occasions, so we know what to expect. Unfortunately, this visit was a total letdown. As is standard, we shared a table with another party--a family with three kids. Right away, there were red flags: the kids were hyped up on candy, spilling things, and spreading out so much that I was repeatedly bumped into and forced to eat off the edge of the table. Management and servers saw this unfolding but never intervened, even though they clearly knew the family. Then came our cook, "Chef John," and things went further downhill: Complete Lack of Engagement: Wearing a baseball cap instead of proper chef attire, Chef John spent the entire meal chatting with the other family (who were clearly regulars) while ignoring us like we weren't even there. No Showmanship: Teppanyaki is about the experience-- jokes, knife tricks, tossing shrimp, flipping eggs. Chef John did nothing beyond a single, basic onion volcano. Bland & Poorly Executed Food: The food lacked real flavor--no ginger or garlic, just heavy salt, pepper, and soy sauce. The steaks were hit-or-miss (the ribeye was moist, but the filet had dry sections), and seafood wasn't cut into bite-sized pieces for chopsticks. Order Snafu & Arguing: All three of us ordered steak and shrimp combos. He served full shrimp portions to two of us, but gave the third person only an appetizer portion. When we brought up the mistake--despite him confirming orders earlier--it turned into an uncomfortable debate over whether she was "entitled" to the rest of her meal. We eventually got the missing shrimp, but the damage was done. Between the chaotic table dynamic that staff ignored, zero entertainment, bland food, and having to argue for the food we ordered, it ruined a birthday celebration. I seriously doubt that we will be returning.

I think it would be enough to feed 2 people, but if you have more than that, you probably want to order another roll or two. Everything here was pretty good. The fish seemed average freshness. The naruto roll was unique with cucumber around the outside, though the tuna was not really spicy. I specifically thought the sea bream (white fish) sashimi was good, as it had a creamy taste and consistency. Julie Roll ($15) - This roll was delicious, with a nice combo of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna in one roll. In addition, there was mango for some sweetness, avocado, and cucumber in there. It was topped with red fish eggs and had a soy wrapper around it, which made it a little unique. Beauty and Beast Roll ($15) - This is sort of a 2-in-1 roll, as half of the pieces have tuna on top and half have avocado on top. There is also shrimp tempura inside along with cucumber and eel. Another tasty roll. The restaurant has a very chill vibe inside. There were a couple others dining in as well for Sunday lunch. The staff are super friendly and even gave us a side of edamame on the house. The service speed was pretty quick. Blu Sushi is the perfect mix of deliciousness, affordability, and fantastic service. I've gone there for my lunch around three times these past two weeks and each time I've had a wonderful experience. Their lunch special is super affordable. You can get 2 rolls for the less than I spend for one at many of the other restaurants in Ridgewood. However, despite that, it honestly tastes the best out of many of the places I've gone to. Also, if you are up for spending more, they have a fantastic selection of appetizers and special rolls that you can try again (I recommend the dynamite shrimp). When I go, I normally get the 2 roll option from the lunch menu. Typically, I have the spicy salmon and the spicy tuna rolls when I order that. Regarding those rolls, they are first and foremost delicious. You can tell that fresh their fish is and how much time and dedication they put into their sushi with each bite. Furthermore, they are spicy--but not too spicy. When you have them you are able to enjoy every aspect of the roll without being completely overwhelmed by the spice. Additionally, they add something crunchy to the rolls which take them from just a tasty lunch to a full experience. Most importantly though, the service and ambiance is fantastic. Every time I've been there I've only been treated with kindness and consideration. They are very willing to talk with you about their dishes, share some interesting facts about it (like how they came up with the dynamite shrimp), and more. But the best part about it is that they remember you. That honestly meant a lot to me. I know that this whole review was a lot of me ranting, but I honestly mean it. If you are looking for a nice, quaint, delicious, affordable, and hospitable meal--Blu Sushi is the place for you.
