Little bit outside of Ridgewood downtown area, this restaurant is located in a beautiful garden area, with their own parking lot. The inside of the restaurant appears old and under maintained. But their has lots of goodies, sushi, sashimi, udon, katsu, all of them either in combos or individual dishes. I loved the spider and dragon rolls. They were large pieces, rice was soft, they were well made. Got the chicken karaage combo as well. Chicken was little over fried to my liking. Miso soup and rice bowl were good. The combo plate had lots of chicken, easily shareable between two. Service is pretty good. We didn't have to wait long to order or to get our food. Overall we had a nice weekend lunch, but not impressive enough for a return.

Nice Japanese restaurant outside of Ridgewood downtown. Big parking lot. Inside is not as spacious as I feel it could be. Food is good. Karage is good, not dry. I love my Katsu rice bowl. Sushi is pretty good but I don't like their sushi rice. Too sticky for me. Service is great. Friendly staff and food come out quick.

Great quality fish! This is my go to spot, just make sure you reserve before coming in as it gets super busy.

Stopped in for weekday lunch special. They have a little parking lot and dingy interior but good food. We really enjoyed our steak and chicken teriyaki and everything tasted fresh. The service is excellent and we will definitely be back

Came here for a quick grab-n-go lunch to take to the nearby park, and I left wanting to come back again for dinner. The restaurant is located in the middle of nowhere, but on a busy road which connects the town of Paramus and Ridgewood. It is in a free standing building with 2 other businesses that has ample parking. They have a pretty big menu for a small restaurant. I could not decide on what to eat...whether sushi, sashimi, Japanese appetizers, combination plates, udon, soups, salads, rice bowls, special rolls, teriyaki, etc. At this point I became really hungry so I decided to go big, and try the Chicken Teriyaki dinner meal. Yes, dinner for lunch..gotta feed the beast! This was a big portion of several mixed menu items. The chicken Teriyaki was tender, and perfectly marinated. The courteous staff member had suggested I could exchange the roll to any of their "regular menu" rolls. So instead of a California roll I went with the Alaskan roll. With that it came with an appetizer portion of edamame, and shumai. Also, a nice sized portion of shrimp tempura (3 pieces), and mixed veggie tempura. All this came with wasabi, ginger, some Japanese topping (black thin strands, very tasty), and sauces to suit the individual cuisines. This dinner box also gave me the option for a soup or salad. I chose the salad, because I wanted to judge their salad dressing. All Japanese restaurants have their unique house dressing which can make or break the salad. This sesame ginger flavored dressing was on point! It was tangy, a little bit sweet, and so addicting. After this meal, I was actually stuffed. The portion of this dinner box is definitely worth every penny (surprisingly was under $20 for everything plus tax). It's a great find, and I will be back again to try out the rest of the menu.

Probably the best sushi place I've had around the area (although I haven't had a ton) - there's regular tables, booth and sushi bar seating. The staff are very friendly and nice. I got the sushi & sashimi combo and a Wasabi roll with salmon and avocado. This was a LOT of food for just 2 people and pretty reasonably priced. The inside is not very big, so I recommend making a reservation on busy days. would definitely recommend trying out!

It was okay. Definitely a bit disappointing considering the reviews and the prices. Also, it is close to home, so I wanted it to be better. We ordered three different meals for takeout. None of them was particularly good. Presentation was very good. Everything looked great. Portions about what you would expect. The beef and chicken were both okay. The chicken was a little tough and didn't have much taste. Not bad, not great, but nobody finished the meat. Both people at the rice. The sushi was also okay, but not great. Probably wouldn't order from there again.

Started this post two years ago but it ended up as a draft and while I have eaten here on several occasions since, thought I already did my review. The few months have been getting Sushi from Sakura walking distance from the house, so convenience was the driver as Wasabi is in Ridgewood and a 12-15 min drive. This establishment deserves its 4 star review for freshness and no compromise on quality of fish. 26.00 Sashimi 15 piece was delightful although what seemed to be missing is scallop, my favorite so the price is too high. Other places you get scallop is included and the price is not more than 23.00. Also had a 7.00 spicy salmon roll with a large chunk of salmon where in contrast to Sakura that uses minced salmon bits. Others ate shrimp tempura roll, Mexican and Tuna rolls what again had large chunks of fish. No one disappointments. In the past the service was good but this time it was takeout. I typically never see staff smile in any Japanese run sushi place so hard to judge but in general seeing happy people makes me happy. Will continue to go here.

Not the best considering their high price point. Got their chicken teriyaki dinner box, which is actually quite a lot of food for just one person. But their tempura was bland and soggy, chicken was dry, shumai had no flavor, and the dressing that came in the complimentary salad was extremely salty. The tuna and avocado roll was the only decent item but the tuna didn't taste fresh at all. It's been a few years since I last dined here so I was hoping this would make up for my bad impression of this place, but unfortunately I'll be staying away from revisiting.

Blu Sushi is the perfect mix of deliciousness, affordability, and fantastic service. I've gone there for my lunch around three times these past two weeks and each time I've had a wonderful experience. Their lunch special is super affordable. You can get 2 rolls for the less than I spend for one at many of the other restaurants in Ridgewood. However, despite that, it honestly tastes the best out of many of the places I've gone to. Also, if you are up for spending more, they have a fantastic selection of appetizers and special rolls that you can try again (I recommend the dynamite shrimp). When I go, I normally get the 2 roll option from the lunch menu. Typically, I have the spicy salmon and the spicy tuna rolls when I order that. Regarding those rolls, they are first and foremost delicious. You can tell that fresh their fish is and how much time and dedication they put into their sushi with each bite. Furthermore, they are spicy--but not too spicy. When you have them you are able to enjoy every aspect of the roll without being completely overwhelmed by the spice. Additionally, they add something crunchy to the rolls which take them from just a tasty lunch to a full experience. Most importantly though, the service and ambiance is fantastic. Every time I've been there I've only been treated with kindness and consideration. They are very willing to talk with you about their dishes, share some interesting facts about it (like how they came up with the dynamite shrimp), and more. But the best part about it is that they remember you. That honestly meant a lot to me. I know that this whole review was a lot of me ranting, but I honestly mean it. If you are looking for a nice, quaint, delicious, affordable, and hospitable meal--Blu Sushi is the place for you.

Yet in many Japanese restaurants, I've found that no matter when I revisit and order their omakase, the dishes, from appetizers to sushi and sashimi, all remain the same. Thankfully, this was not the case at Shumi. Here, the chefs truly strive to create edible masterpieces. I had the pleasure of enjoying innovative appetizers along with nigiri that simply melted in my mouth. Shumi's omakase was once priced at $150 per person, but in a thoughtful move to accommodate their customers, they adjusted it to $95 per person without compromising the quality of their fish. I will note that the pieces are smaller, but they still deliver the freshest taste. The staff is exceptionally gracious, dedicated to ensuring a wonderful dining experience. They are quick to replenish your tea or fill your glass as soon as it's half empty. I did, however, find the restaurant a bit chilly, and the music was a little too loud, making it difficult to hear the staff as they described each type of fish. For those who followed Master Chef Kunihiko "Ike" Aikasa from the original Shumi in Somerville, he sold that business before opening this new location in Ridgewood, which has been open since 2017. Here, he has partnered with owner David Seo. The aesthetic of the new restaurant remains clean and bright. In a competitive town like Ridgewood, where locals expect restaurants to bring their A-game, Shumi has obviously stood the test of time. I wish them many more years of excellence. Rating scale: Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4.5/5 Food: 5/5 Overall: I'd give it 4.5 stars, but I rounded it up to 5 stars.

Your average, run of the mill Japanese/sushi restaurant…read more We came by on a hot Friday evening at around 6 PM and, unlike some of the more popular restaurants in Ridgewood, this restaurant was pretty much empty when we walked in. However, it did get pretty busy around 7 PM, but there were still available seats. For a restaurant in this area, it was pretty big with quite a few tables inside. The menu was very typical of any local neighborhood Japanese restaurant - Japanese soups and salads, appetizers, entrees like teriyaki dishes, noodles/udons, rice entrees and lots of different sushi and sushi rolls. Nothing on the menu will blow you away or be surprising, but it'll satisfy your Japanese food craving if that's what you're seeking. Our family ordered Edamame and Fried Gyoza to start and both were good. The Gyoza was actually better than I anticipated, arriving at our table hot and crispy. For entrees, we ordered our kids the Salmon Teriyaki, which was solid. There was a lot of teriyaki sauce on the salmon and the salmon was not overly cooked or dry, so that was a plus. I ordered 3 regular sushi rolls - Spicy Crab, Spicy Yellowtail and Spicy Salmon - and all were good and pretty much what I expected. My wife ordered the Sushi Regular, which came with 8 pieces of sushi and a California Roll. Once again, all good. Nothing that was off about any of it. We also ordered a Nabeyaki Udon, but I didn't get to try any of it, however, our kids ate a lot of it, which was a good sign that it was good. Like I said, there was nothing that was bad here and everything was good, but nothing is spectacular either. If you're just seeking Japanese food/sushi and need to get your fix on, the food at Kumo will hit that spot.

I ordered the Shoyu Ramen, which was a pretty good ramen considering they weren't a restaurant that specialized in ramen. The ramen was very tasty and like any other I've ordered from legit ramen restaurants. My wife ordered a custom poke bowl, which we've ordered many times before for pickup. The bowl was MASSSIVE and seemingly much bigger than what they typically give for takeout orders, although their takeout poke bowls are very generous too. For our kids, we ordered the House Special Fried Rice, which came with eggs and Chinese sausage. It was a solid fried rice and we were quite surprised it came with Chinese sausage because it's an ingredient we rarely see used for fried rice entrees at restaurants. Overall, our dining experience here was good and we loved that it was nice and quiet. It never got super busy, but a few parties did come in after us. The bread and butter of their business is definitely takeout though.

We were taken to one of the tables closer to the kitchen in the back. I loved all of the polaroid pics on the walls and chill/relaxed vibe there. It was a cold, rainy night. So once we were seated, we ordered some hot tea and quickly filled out our order sheets. The service was great that night - staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered veggie tempura to share. One order is 3 pieces, so we wrote down 3 on our sheet (see pic - this was what we wanted to split between two). My husband filled up on all the vegetarian friendly rolls (sweet potato, avocado/cucumber, avocado/peanut, and avocado/mango; the last was his favorite). I went with a Crazy Tuna Roll, X-Roll, and a Golden Ridgewood. The latter two are deep fried. Both were tasty but just a lot, so next time I would just order one or the other and regular rolls or sushi pieces. We filled up quickly, so we passed on ice cream at the end. I overheard another table say that the ice cream was really good... Overall, weekday dinner at Sushi X was good experience. We hope to be back again and make sure to round off our meal with some of that delicious ice cream! :)

Great location in the heart of Ridgewood....AND, more importantly, the sushi isn't bad either…read more There aren't many AYCE sushi restaurants in northern NJ, but whenever I find one, the excitement antennas are set off in me. One thing I love about this AYCE sushi restaurant is that, like many of the good ones, they offer AYCE sashimi! However, not ALL fishes or typical sashimi were available here (e.g. regular tuna, eel were not part of the sashimi section), but beggars can't be choosers right????? We strolled in for an early Friday evening dinner at around 5:30 PM. First off, if you're familiar with the area, then you'll know that parking is TOUGH here, especially as the evening wears on, so come early! When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty with just 2 parties dining, but by around 6:30-7:00 PM, it got absolutely packed. By the time we left at 7:00, the 2 waitresses working the evening were flying back and forth between tables. I won't go through everything on the menu because, like I said, it's very typical of good AYCE sushi restaurants these days. They have various sashimi, sushi, sushi rolls and special rolls on their menu along with salads, soups, appetizers and fried foods. The sashimi, sushi and appetizers were all decent and I thought it was pretty solid. My better half claimed that there was a bit of discoloration on some of the sashimi, so it skewed her opinions immediately of the sashimi quality, but I didn't think there was much to it as most of it tasted relatively fresh. I DO AGREE with her that some of it could have been better though, like the clam sashimi didn't look great. As for service, it was very quick throughout the evening. Our appetizers and sushi came out very quick, although it wasn't super busy at the time when we dined, but the waitresses were always coming back to see if we were ready with our next order. When it did get busy, things seemed a bit more hectic inside. Also, one thing to note for AYCE diners is that if you're not ordering from the AYCE menu, which as of June 2025 is $31.99/person, they do have an a la carte menu too, but if 1 person is doing AYCE at the table, EVERYYYYONE else has to do it, unless the other parties at your table are under 10 years old. Because our kids were not ordering from the AYCE menu, the waitresses seemingly kept coming back to check on our table to make sure our kids were not eating any of the food that my wife and I were ordering from the AYCE menu. In my opinion, it was a a litttttttle petty, but I guess rules are rules and they are definitely strict here about it. Overall, solid sashimi and sushi. We've been to quite a few AYCE sushi restaurants in NY and NJ and Sushi X doesn't have the best AYCE sashimi and sushi quality we've ever had, but it passes the test still and I would still come back again in the future.
