Very disappointed in the children swimming lessons. Classes were very chaotic and disorganized…read moreespecially when the head instructor Mr.C wasn't there. Young helper maybe highschool aged was letting my child struggle and her face repeatedly falling under the water to the extent she started choking while he was directly next to her because he wasn't paying attention. Same instructor laughed at my child after she went under the water and couldn't help herself back up and was very scared. She was crying and he wasn't laughing. He seemed new and had little idea what he was doing. My child did 3 sessions and made absolutely no improvement after the 1st session. They split the classes in a very weird way some kids were receiving a nearly private or very small group lessons due to skill and kept kids with the beginners even though they were in sessions prior so therefore never progressed. Very confusing. You can pay slightly more at another place if not the same amount for much better lessons and more attentive instructors.

I canceled my membership in February so they charged me for March as well as the yearly fee. I asked for corporate number and was told no, they only can have a GM speak with me. Absolutely unacceptable. will be sharing with every social media platform and more. save your money go to a $10 a month, or if in Bristol the one on West Street is great. never had issues with billing, place was clean and staff always willing to help. this gym reach its prime in early 2000 there is literlaly nothing about it that makes me feel this is a quality establishment...to top it off they screwed me on my last bill. it's a joke.

The trainers are VERY nice and polite. The owner, however, is anything but. I signed up twice --- the first time before I had gone to college, and had enough free time to commit to a schedule. It worked out fine until I had to cancel due to financial problems (I enrolled in college and could no longer afford to be in college and to afford the $41.48 membership fee, so I had to cancel.) I did this legitimately, by paying the $99 cancellation fee after about 5-6 months. After that, since I was in college, I did not attend the gym for about 2-3 years, until this summer when I had about 3 months to sign up again, this May (my new contract actually began 5/29/13). So, I thought fine, I can afford this until I get a stable income after graduating college (I am graduating this year.) However, as the months passed on, I noticed another charge on my bank account for $46.59 in ADDITION to the $41.48 which was already taken out. I was fully aware of the yearly $25.00 fee, which had already came out, but this was something else. This extra charge was explained to me (much later, I might add) and the staff of the bank as an "insufficient funds" charge. The $20 "insufficient funds charge" + $41.48 - $46. I called the gym the very day I noticed the charge, and immediately asked to speak to the owner, however she was on vacation at the moment and they said I needed to wait for a week until she got back. This was not acceptable due to the fact I had missing funds in my account at the moment, and I could not wait for the owner to sort it out with me. I am a college student and need EVERY cent in my account, and I do not account for such errors like "double billing" and other things that would cause my account to go into the negative. I had to call my bank and file a chargeback for the extra amount of the $46. Bank of America explained this charge as a merchant error, and the bank refunded me the amount. The gym owner very rudely stated when she called today, that she disputed the charge against her company, because it was "not her error" and said that the bank is going to retract the refunded amount from my bank. The owner, Kristie, was VERY rude and didn't seem to be very understanding of the problem. She insisted that she "did nothing wrong", and when I mentioned i'd like to cancel out of pure frustration and because I was moving out of town soon (and would be signing up with a much cheaper gym) in addition to all the trouble this has caused me with the bank (with overdraft fees and calling both the bank AND the gym to

I joined the Fitness Center For Women last June after having an annual physical that left me…read morefeeling very upset about my physical condition and weight. The nurse practitioner recommended it to me, and I have no regrets at all about joining -- it has been a wonderful experience. When you start, they evaluate your fitness level, and design a workout for you, also spending an hour of time with you making sure you know how to set up the machines and how to do each exercise without hurting yourself. I worked out on my own mostly over the summer and also tried the hula hoop class with Tanya. Not only is it a very fun class -- it is a good workout that raises your heart rate and makes you sweat. This Fall, I joined the Diva Boot Camp. I am far from a Diva, but I have found a great group of women who support each other with making it through some tough workouts and do so consistently. Kristie, the gym owner, leads the camp, and she keeps the workouts varied and interesting. She is encouraging and tough all at the same time. I was new to the area, and this has really made me feel like I have a community of people who are becoming friends and who are striving together to meet their goals. Next June, when I go back for my annual physical, I suspect it will be a very different experience. For anyone who has not tried an "all women's gym" and is curious -- I highly recommend it. It just takes the edge off and let's you focus on your workouts and not worry about whether you look presentable. There is not a lot of vanity -- it's a place where women can work out and feel at ease whatever your size or fitness level. Go for it -- you have nothing to lose (except a few pounds) ; )

Taken from their website, "To ensure safety and comfort for all, we ask members to always act…read moreappropriately during training. Any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated..." The Southington branch of the YMCA violated their very own oath from a trainer (NR) to the Health and Wellness Director (JM) and up to the Branch Executive Director (JJ). As a longtime member of the Southington branch of the YMCA I am both saddened and disgusted. I had participated in their Strength Training class for several years but have been increasingly disappointed with NR mostly because she treats this class as HER time to engage in personal conversation with her friends in the class. Also, I noticed that she would often ignore me and send me clear across the weight room away from her group of friends. Then, a new member (EB) joined this class and eventually EB succeeded in not only ostracizing me even further from the group but began to bully me. The bullying included yelling at me, becoming argumentative and confrontational, treating the weight room as if it belonged to her and not me but most of all she succeeded in turning the other class members against me. I took my concerns to NR on three separate occasions to no avail. So, I then went to the Health and Wellness Director (JM). Previously, I had several positive encounters with JM (she always had a sympathetic ear) as I've been navigating a broken back due to cancer as well as dealing with my daughter's cancer diagnosis. Then... NOTHING. I firmly believe that NR gave her a pack of lies. So, I took my concerns to the Branch Executive Directo (JJ). Then... NOTHING. Again, I believe there were more lies from NR. I now belong to Big Sky and can't believe I didn't move sooner! Big Sky is everything the YMCA Southing branch is NOT! The facility is clean and pristine with a massive amount of equipment and staffed with amazing and professional people. The members are courteous, respectful, helpful and quietly go about exercising. The trainers never talk about their kids, vacations etc. like NR did in every single class. I spoke to the trainers about my horrifying experience with NR and the trainers all said the same thing - that NR acted extremely unprofessional and likely felt intimidated and threatened by me because I'm a serious weight lifter. If you read to the end I thank you!
