ZERO STARS - Helen did my balayage and it was too light, so I came back for a redo where she camouflaged my highlights. She had the color sit in my hair for 20 minutes and my highlights were completely gone. I showed 3 pictures of what I wanted at the redo visit and used the term "chocolate". (I learned from a senior stylist who fixed my color that I actually wanted caramel.) Regardless of terminology Helen as a professional should have recognized what I was asking based on the pictures. Helen did not ask me what products I use at home or how often I wash my hair. Instead of taking accountability she blamed me for having "faded" highlights when that's how light she made it the first time. The salon manager called me indecisive and knit-picked the words I said. She said my hair was exactly in the picture and defended the color I did not want. Salon manager is not a colorist and should not be giving any hair advice. She took a picture of the photo from my phone and said she'd add it to my profile. Salon manager failed to apologize and take accountability as I've had to travel a 3rd time to the salon to get my hair fixed. This was the worst experience I've ever had at Gene Juarez. read more

I was recommended by a friend to come here to get my haircut because she had a good experience at this place. When I read the reviews on Yelp, I got very hesitant because of the many negative reviews left on Yelp about Gene Juarez. Many complains were focused on the unnecessary high pricing, disappointment in hair stylists, and customer service. Well, I decided to take a shot and chose a hair stylist that was a slightly on the less expensive side, comparative to other hair stylists ($84). Honestly, my experience at Gene Juarez was nothing but positive. The stylist I chose was Elle, and she was really wonderful. She was incredibly nice and listened to what I had in mind with what I wanted with my hair. She offered some suggestions, but was open to my comments too. She was a great conversationalist and it was very enjoyable getting to chat with her. The hair cutting process was quick snd no nonsense, and I walked out loving my haircut. The staff behind the counter were great and quick. The environment was clean, modern, and chic. To book an appointment, you can do it online. They have hair stylists who offer different times: 45/60/90 mins. Hair stylists also charge different rates, so take that into consideration as well. I heard Bridgett (Zoe) was great and listens well to customers' requests, but I choose Elle because her rate was lower, and had read that somebody had a great experience with Elle, so I chose her. And I'm glad I did! It would be nice if the website offered some bios of their hair stylists, because I did it by word of mouth, and by reading Yelp reviews. I had to come back after vowing several years ago not to return because I needed a haircut before an unexpected meeting, but the experience reminded me of exactly why I left after years of going to GJ every 4-6 weeks. When I first started going to Gene Juarez years ago, you would walk into the salon and were greeted by someone at the door. They would take you back to waiting room, offer you hot tea and coffee, and provided a high quality service. Today, I walked in and was greeted by an iPad with a broken check-in system. I walked myself back to the lounge, and saw that there appeared to be a premade pot of coffee sitting in the corner. The haircut itself was good, but was a trim for $91. I honestly felt a bit ripped off, and again, was reminded of why I vowed to not come back several years ago. read more

I went in to get a Baliage,and a Hair Cut and did not get a Baliage but they charged me $275 for it. I called and spoke to several people over a 3 week period and they refused to give me a credit. Shawn K. saved the day. After calling in the morning to ask for someone to fix my hair I was immediately helped and offered a free service asap. They got me in the next day which was great (especially since I didn't want to in public with my orange head). I was given to Shawn K. to help fix my hair and she did an amazing job. She's been with Gene Juarez for 33 years and it shows. Does my hair still have a few spots of orange and discoloration ? Yes. Is my hair pretty fried from all the bleach? Absolutely. HOWEVER, Shawn did the best with what she was given (basketball orange hair) and after 2 rounds of having to bleach my whole head I was not expecting it to come out looking healthy. (I also think most of the damage came from the original guy who did my hair because he slapped soo much bleach there). Because of her working with what I walked in with, I now feel so much better and comfortable going out again. I also would like to shout out Dorian L from my original appointment because he was awesome and gave me a great cut and conversation! There are still some odd colors/banding from the first appointment, so I know next time I get it done i'll have to get a color correction service instead, but at this point I won't put bleach on my hair for a very VERY long time. First, the service was terrible. The beautician, Maribel A, didn't listen to my needs or expectations. I even showed her pictures of the style I wanted, but she simply said, "Yes, that's what you'll get," and proceeded with the service. She applied a couple of creams 10 minutes apart and then claimed the service was complete. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, she said she would speak to her manager about getting me a refund. Then, she brought in someone (I wasn't even informed of their role), and this person admitted that my eyebrows didn't look good. They offered to redo the service and scheduled an appointment for the next day at 2:45 PM. When I returned on February 23rd, I was made to wait for 30 minutes (until 3:15 PM). Eventually, another staff member (Basilia S) came and told me that nothing more could be done. This is completely unacceptable and not how customers should be treated. First, the service itself was poor. Then, when I voiced my disappointment, instead of resolving the issue, I was unnecessarily asked to return--only to be rejected again. If nothing could be fixed, why was I scheduled for a redo in the first place? Was it just to waste my time? read more

Ive been a 30 year client of multiple locations at Gene Juarez and I'm officially done. Went to UV location and had my appt canceled again - but was called on my way to the appt so I didn't get the message causing me frustration, disappointment and a two hour loss of time of my day. When MIA at the front desk told me my appt was canceled she didn't even apologize and offered me an appt over a week in advance. When I said I was going somewhere else, she said, "sounds good". When I called to speak to a manager MIA screened my call repeatedly to avoid this complaint. This place has gone horribly down hill over the last 3-4 years. The number of cancelations and amount of your time they waste is outrageous. But to not apologize on top of it all is too much. Never again. read more

They did not even apology for the inconvenience and would not work with me on multiple days to find a new day and time that would work for both me and them. A TERRIBLE experience and haircut I made my appointment day of and was a little late due to cutting my toe before I left the house. I called and let them know and they said it was fine. However I was still charged the late fee...they also couldn't find me in their system even though I had just spoken to someone on the phone. My appointment was apparently cancelled because they had to find me another appointment for an hour from then, as well as a different stylist. Coco came to get me by saying my name and walking off. No greeting what so ever. Was not offered a drink by anyone at any point, even when I had to wait an hour for my appointment. He sat me down and said "what do you want" and seemed so grossed out by everything I said...? It was confusing and irritating. I just wanted a trim to be right above my shoulders and curtain bags. So he said gruffly let's go wash your hair and proceeded to ROUGHLY wash my hair. He didn't ask me if I was comfortable at all. Said absolutely nothing to me. I asked him how his day was and if it was nearly over and all he said "almost". Ok, message received, you don't want to talk....rude. We went back to the chair and by now I was completely distrustful of him and coming away from this appointment with a good haircut. It was extremely uncomfortable because he didn't seem to want to implement the slight changes I requested and didn't even show me the back of my hair when I was done. He didn't ask how I wanted it styled. Just finished and was suddenly kind and sent me on my way. No shock, he wants a tip. The manager kindly refunded the no-show charge and price matched the appointment to the rate of my first appt, $96. Coco would normally charge $140. He didn't even cut my hair evenly!! I'm so incredibly frustrated because I would expect someone who's worked there over 20 years to know how to do an even cut. I will absolutely be asking for a refund. read more

All I know is they are so kind and so helpful, and want you to be happy with what you have. Totally and completely worth the extra drive. Don't bother going here. I was a repeat customer, who used to see Layne and Coco, and just had a gut wrenching experience here. I made an appointment weeks ago online, got a babysitter, took time off of work for the afternoon - all so i could get my hair cut and colored before a big event. I'd also like to add context that i know my hair takes extra time. On Monday i called their salon MULTIPLE times to confirm that there was enough time for my appointment (receipts attached). The person who picked up, assured me many times that there was an extra 30 minutes to both of my appointments and it would be fine. When i showed up (right on time) the manager, Tyler, told me that there wasn't any time for my appointments and i would have to come back another day. Of course, i got extremely frustrated - they wouldn't do anything today? Not a cut or color? They couldn't get help for either appointment? As we continued to argue, he asked me to tone it down (i wasn't yelling, but i was clearly frustrated) and when i said I'd like to record this conversation he very aggressively and condescendly asked me to leave. I was on the verge of tears, asking why he would do that when i clearly did everything in my power to be a good customer and he said i needed to leave or he would call security. I live in NY but occasionally get my hair colored at your salon when visiting family. My past experiences have been good. I have been highlighting/bailage my dirty blonde hair for the past decade and a half. I went to the Bellevue salon recently and tried a new stylist, Nali A. Although the color looked fine, the bleach used severely damaged my hair. It has been breaking and falling out in large quantities. The texture is completely modified, tangling easily. I go to great lengths to keep it free of damage. I use Kerastase products, deep condition, and protectants. I would be hesitant to get another treatment from your salon. Additionally, the toner washed out in about 2 washes. I contacted guest relations via email and no one got back to me (this was at the end of August). I would at the very least expect some sort of response from such an established salon. Disappointing all around.. read more

I have been going to Gene Juarez salons for years (over 10 years ago at the U Village location in Seattle!) and it holds a high level of service and standards. I recently had a bad experience with Cami, a jr stylist (avoid her if you can) since she wasn't friendly at all, not hygienic, and the dye didn't even take- so I left with my original hair color and nothing different... I was sad because I wanted nice hair for my upcoming vacation but was left with the same hair/grown out roots instead of a fresh color. I came back to see Kole for my hair color and I'm really glad I gave this place another chance. Kole was really nice, professional, and made my hair look sleek and shiny, and very black again! Talia is AMAZING!!! I have been wanting to add a bit of rose gold color to my hair, and we discussed how we could do it SAFELY and over time to ensure it isn't too much, and the right color. TALIA NAILED IT!!! She has continued to amaze me with her colorist skills since Day 1 when I came to her with a mess of various blondes, gray, brown, and brassiness, all of which she fixed within the first 1-2 visits when we thought it would take 3! And we got my hair back into good condition, as I was actually losing hair and it was dry...lots of breakage. Talia introduced me to the K15 product, which has made my hair silky and strong! It is well worth the $75!!! I only wish Talia were available years ago when I came to GJ in my 20's. I'm 65 now, and I won't go anywhere else...and I sure hope Talia doesn't either!!! read more

A regular haircut (nothing special) is $85 and with tip you'll spend $100. I had a gift card so I went, but would never pay for this. I got the same cut at a regular place for $20. I did get a shampoo (which I already did before going), and she said that is how they can justify the expensive price, with that "service". So they know they are pricey. I initially went to the University location where I worked with Sydney. She was very sweet however, the final outcome was not only significantly different than I requested (completely wrong color etc) but it was poorly executed overall. I left the salon with vibrant dark red roots which were not at all blended with the rest of my hair. The rest of my hair was turned into a flat light brown (I started out blonde, see photo for reference). I went to the Bellevue location for a color correction today. Amy was very kind and attentive. However, despite hating the color of my roots and the rest of my hair, the correction only involved blending the top of my hair with the bottom....both of which were the wrong colors to begin with. Now I am stuck with a blended watered down version of what I left the first salon with. I attached photos from before and after the correction...as you can tell there is not a significant difference. Clearly more can be done to fix this and one correction session didnt do much at all. Now I will have to spend more time and money to get this fixed. Still waiting for a refund to be approved because all refunds have to be escalated up the chain...even when the outcome is as bad as mine. Also, if you call any of the salons, you will never speak to a person right away. From my experience, you have to opt for a callback at a later time which is really frustrating. I do not recommend Gene Juarez!!! I'm feeling defeated and disappointed with this entire experience. I'm genuinely embarrassed by the way my hair looks. I've been coming to Gene Juarez for 25 years for haircuts and color. I've been seeing the same person for my color the entire time. She's become a great friend and is SO talented. It's great to just go sit in her chair and let her do what she thinks will look best on me. I was getting balayage and all over color on alternating appointments. She advised me that I only need balayage twice a year with my hair...saving me thousands of dollars. I do all over color every few months to cover my grey. TIP: Make your appointments ahead of time. Not sure about everyone but she works 3 days a week (used to work 5 pre covid). read more

Absolutely terrible. I went in for a balayage on my natural blond hair and the guy who did it completely messed it up. He (Kevin I think) left the toner on way too long and it turned my blond highlights BLUE. We called 3 different times complaining saying they'll give us a call back and never did. When we finally got to come in for a redo the new lady (Layne L) was extremely rude and actually made it worse, more damaged, didn't remove the toner, and even made my natural blond hair darker and for 450$!! I went to get a haircut today, she barely washed my hair, give me a horrible cut, and then another hairdresser checked it out said it doesn't look good. There was no one who was able to fix it and then they referred me to another location, I checked the reviews - that location was low rated as well. I decided not to go to that location, because my trust was broken. And I called back for a refund, they said they can't give refunds. When I arrived they checked me in, offered me a robe, offered me a beverage and brought my (delicious) coffee to me when it was ready. The scalp massage was amazing! I got a wonderful haircut and now I cannot imagine going anywhere else. They helped me get my hair sent in for a donation to wigs for kids! It is so awesome that they do that and they don't partner with other hair donation organizations that are unethical. Plenty of parking in the garage, but I do not know which garage is closest to them. It can be a bit of an adventure getting to their shop from the parking garage. They do free bang trims too, which is super exciting! I have also had facials here, which have always been wonderful. read more

I scheduled my appointment for a base color and foiling, kerastase treatment and hair cut with styling. Upon an early arrival, my stylist was 20 minutes late. She appeared flustered and apologetic stating that " she had another customer who was not please with the outcome of her visit and that she would be "multi- tasking" for a little bit while she fixed the problem ". That statement should have been enough for me to walk away but she assured me that I would be so please with her work since she had been coloring hair for 10 years. As I kept waiting, she started to Balayage my hair instead. When I reminded her that I wanted my hair foiled, she called her manager "  and she said, well if you choose to have your hair foiled, we will not have time for your hair cut. I suggest you just have your hair balayage instead if you want to walk away with a hair cut. She assured me I would like it better. 20 minutes later, another employee approached me to notified me that my hair stylist who was scheduled to cut and style my hair have to leave since we were late coloring my hair and they had no other stylist to complete my order 3.5 hours later. The finished product was unprofessional, costumer service was disrespectful and overall this was disappointing, stressful and expensive experience. Gene Juarez refused to make it right and fix their error. I advise that if you want a relaxing, professional and overall satisfying experience, you go somewhere else but Gene Juarez in Bellevue. This salon needs to get over themselves with the continual price increases for a haircut that takes less than 20 minutes. Christophe has raised his prices four times in the past year and a half. From $150 to now $186! He does a fair job but I can go to Vidal Sassoon in New York and get a beautiful haircut for $150 from a very experienced stylist. They do wonderful cuts there that last for months. Jean Juarez, from what I have heard from the manager, is setting volume goals and if the stylist hits the goals then they can decide to raise their prices. Ultimately, I think this is very bad business practice. This does not even have anything to do with inflation , it is just ultimate greed ! If people continue to pay these price increases the designers in the salons will continue this practice . Please consider another salon. I would rather pay to fly to New York to get a decent cut them to go to the stylist here and pay his ridiculous prices. read more

The first time I went here, I waited almost 45 minutes because they forgot to check me in and then was rushed through my appointments. I wanted a calligraphy cut and they said it's just marketing and a razor cut. It was not good. The second attempt, they attempted to reschedule the day before because the stylist wanted to leave early on Friday. I tried to reschedule and they don't return phone calls or email. First time I got service there was for my big birthday party. I had hair and make up done. They are all very friendly, nice, professional, welcoming. I am just not sure I liked what I received. I kind of liked the hair, and I kind of liked the make up. There's a reason why GJ is so expensive: they really provide a best in class experience and I was blown away by my visit. From the moment you step in the door, you're treated like royalty. I was taken back to the dressing rooms and given a special robe to put on, they checked my coat at the door, and in 60 seconds I was with my stylist drinking La Croix and talking about my hair goals. Mallory was my colorist and she was phenomenal. I originally had booked a full balayage, but she explained the difference between that and a full foil based on my hair goals and I ended up going with the foil instead. Oh. My. Gosh. What a difference. My hair is back to being blonde and it's so natural! She did an amazing job with the foils, it looks like I went on vacation instead of coloring my hair. It was expensive ($215) but the results speak for themselves. I had to walk through Nieman Marcus to get to GJ and a lovely sales associate helped direct me toward the salon. 2.5 hours later I ran into her again on my way out post-appointment. She said "wow! Your hair looks amazing! I didn't want to say it before but you looked like you just rolled out of bed, now you look gorgeous!"......so there ya go! My gift card from work brought me in the door, but the dozens of compliments I got on my hair will keep me coming back. read more

This salon is an obvious downgrade from their previous location, which was much larger. The locker rooms are now very small with only one changing area and one shower. It's incredibly awkward to use now. The old location had a nice steam room with plenty of changing areas and multiple showers. It was much roomier and you didnt feel awkward if there were other people in there. The waiting area is tiny. While I still enjoy the service of the spa technicians and love how professional the spa employees are (hence the stars), I would not want to go back based on my most recent experience. The front desk people either changed or I just happened to come when a rude group was working. I went to check out after my spa experience after using the shower and dressing room to get ready and to purchase some recommended product, but I stood waiting for quite a few minutes as a couple front desk folks chatted with each other. The one guy and two girls clearly saw me, gave me a once over and ignored me. They finally helped me after another woman came up to pay for her services. They greeted her and asked how she enjoyed her service. They were not friendly at all towards me, did not greet me or ask how my service was. The snotty once over they gave me and then ignoring me, made me extremely uncomfortable. It ruined the whole relaxing spa experience. I know how obnoxious a lot of these employees can be (in this location) and how gossipy but honestly thought things might have changed after 15 years but apparently not. The inconsistency with the service of the front desk is something they should look into unless they don't care how paying customers are being treated. read more

Customer service contacted me. She was very personable, the type of interaction I have come to expect from Gene Juarez. The call center they are using may need training. Gene Juarez Appointment process is inconvenient. I had questions. One service was not in the online appointment option. The other service was new for me and needed a consultation, also not online. My call left me hanging 10 minutes until the time I had another appointment and had to hang up. The option for call back was not going to work. I did text that I needed a call but the text option did not work for my need to discuss with a person. A few hours later I got a text that they would text with me. I said no, I need a person. Finally someone called but it was like talking to a Robot. She seemed to be reading scripts an each question she took a moment and then read something. It was an impersonal experience. Since the repeated 'High Volume of callers' is a problem perhaps hiring more people with conversation skills would be helpful. read more
