I used to see Alyssa when I went here but now that she's moved onto Salon 44, I see no reason to go back. For the prices that are charged here and the location, you'd expect it to be MUCH nicer. They have a shower curtain in place of a door, things are just falling apart, and there is a random hole in the bathroom wall. It's really not nice and not up to par with the price you pay to get your hair done there. It also seems like they're staff rotates frequently (they just lost about 4 of their top stylists) which makes me concerned about how management is treating employees. read more

I started going to Salon Tewl after my hairstylist Sarah moved from her place in Cap Hill to here. It's a bit out of the way for me living in the Edmonds/Shoreline area, but Sarah is the only one I trust with my hair! It took me a long time to find hair products that worked for my hair type, and even longer to find a stylist that could make my hair look as good! I have long and thick hair that has some natural wave and gets oily pretty fast in the summer. I've had bangs most of my life and was going for a summer shag look because it works for my hair waves and I like a lot of layers. Sarah is the best! She made my hair look amazing from first cut! She's also dyed my hair and I went from my natural color to a light brown and then back to my natural color (photo posted is it dyed back to my natural color, though the ends still faded to reveal some previous color that will be snipped off next appointment). Salon Tewl is clean and the staff is very friendly! I've only worked with Sara and can definitely recommend her for cuts and dye, but everyone seems very friendly and staff is always willing to work to find someone there that will be able to pull off what you need! My only half complaint is the previous salon Sarah was at let you book online. This place you have to call and I've always had to leave a voicemail before getting a call the next day. I've been going to TEWL for the last year and have always had a great experience! So much so that I make the longer drive from up north to have Anna-Katherine cut and color my wavy/curly hair. I love that I never have to worry about parking since there's a garage right there and the salon validates it for me. I'm always greeted by one of the stylists at the front desk and am usually offered tea or coffee. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes from the time I get there. My hair has been healthier and curlier than ever since Anna-Katherine became by stylist. I also appreciate the time and effort all of the stylists put into the styling after the cut to make you feel great walking out of the salon :) It's really easy to book/reschedule on their app or via text message which I prefer over having to call and figure out dates and times. They also have a ton of high quality products to choose from from hair care to fragrance (mostly ORIBE). I've recommended TEWL to my family members and they are regulars now as well! read more

Been needing to get a cut and color since COVID and I'm sooo happy I found this place. I checked out their pictures and reviews on their web site and IG. Went in for a haircut first with Luyba. First of all, their precautions are top notch. You have to call before entering, then sign a waiver, then you're escorted to wash your hands, and only then you meet your amazing stylist. Luyba gave me bangs! After a decade of not having them, I wouldn't have anyone else do it :) I came back the following week for a balayage consultation, and the week after for the actual color. And it's beautiful. Couldn't ask for anything else. Also, they carry Oribe which is a favorite. Highly recommend if you're looking for a salon, and Luyba is wonderful!! read more

I just went for the first time. Andrea is the new owner as of August. She does great work with my color and keeping my long golden locks easy to style. The Salon is quiet, clean and easy to park. Don't hesitate for a second to see her as she really listens and does what you ask, not what she wants. I asked for her input and she gave it to me. So we trimmed one and a half inches off so it was lighter in weight. My blonde color is gorgeous and that is not easy with the amount of grey that I have. There are no stripes, chunks or obvious pieces of color. I like how easy it is to avoid traffic as it is not far from the Bellevue Library. They validate parking in the garage right next door but there seems to be street parking. read more

I supposed to have my appointment last Saturday and they cancel the same day cause they didn't have the tools for it, they offered me a free tint for the inconvenience and I accept to pushed a week after. I wanted simple make-up and a simple up-do for my wedding (had a few idea photos but left all decisions up to the stylist, didn't need a trial) and made an appointment here because they quoted me about $150 total (before tip) for hair and make-up (about $75 each). When the appointment day came, I was happy and Liuba was great. I didn't really care if my hair stayed up the whole night (only photos and the ceremony mattered to me) so I was surprised when it took about three rounds of shampoo to wash out all the hair spray at the hotel later that night (not a problem - just a surprise). The reason for 3* (see: update at the bottom) stars instead of 5 is that when I went up to pay they told me my total was (the $30 I pre-paid when I booked the appointment) and about another $270ish. What?! I quickly realized I did NOT want to be angry that day so I handed over my card and knew they'd be getting an email in a month or so and later this review (so it could include how they responded to my feedback). Quoted total (before tip) = about $150. Total paid (after tip, while trying not to get angry because it was so much more than their quote, $30 deposit included) = $320 (or about $300 before tip, which ended up being only $20 due to the service price shock). I did send my feedback message to them several weeks after the wedding but never heard back. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I only had cash on me that day and only brought $200-250. *UPDATE: The owner reached out to me within hours of the review being posted and the next day I got a call about them processing a 100% refund (not at all what I had expected). I wasn't sure how to respond to that because I really did like the hair and make-up part of my experience but I am glad it's now (hopefully) resolved and it sounds like they'll do some more training when it comes to customer quotes. read more

PARKING: incredibly easy, pull into the garage directly next to the salon. The front desk validates it upon check-in. SERVICE: I got the scalp facial and blowout. The scalp product smells SO GOOD. The scalp product has essential oils in it, so it smells like orange citrus. I'm also incredibly sensitive to chemicals (even natural ones) and my skin/scalp is still loving the treatment I got! STYLIST: I saw Jeselle for my hair appointment. Wow. If you haven't had your head & hair blessed by her, get your life together. One of the most relaxing services I've had. This was a fairly miserable waxing service with Izabelle. Not only that, but after tormenting me for 40 minutes, my husband discovered way too many hairs that she missed! Details? OK. First of all, you have to understand that my ONE star for Salon Tewl IN NO WAY has any reflection on ANY of the other reviews posted here for it, because Salon Tewl is a place where about 20 different stylists, aestheticians, etc., practice as independent operators. They rent their space from the salon, and they're on their own. The salon itself is pretty but crowded, very busy, and loud. However, it does seem like a happenin' place, so peg your level of chaos-loving and act accordingly. It is, I will say, kept sparkling clean throughout, no small task when you have that many clients coming through. The gal at the front desk is great; they seem to have an efficient scheduling system. Izabelle was ready for me quickly and she took me back to the waxing/skin treatment room, which I swear is probably just smaller than my walk-in closet (which is not big). The bed has to be in there at a slight diagonal, it's that small! So it's claustrophobic. She got started and right away, I knew we were going to have trouble. Clean gloves? Check. Bright light to see what the hell she's doing? There but not turned on. Hmmm. Music to distract? Yes. She did, however, unceremoniously remove the towel covering my nethers, throwing it on a pile in the corner. I'm immodest, having had two babies, but at least PRETEND you care about my modesty! The wax was too hot. Throughout the session, I told her that no fewer than four times. Her solution was not to turn the wax pot down a little (which is what she should have done) but to wave it around a little in the air before applying it, which barely helped. She didn't burn me, but the most sensitive inner spots are sore today. She also applied TONS of wax in thick layers. WTF? Her ripping technique sucked. First, she'd test it by pulling three or four hairs slowly. Thanks for that. And then she'd rip the rest fairly slowly too. She hasn't learned the trick of holding the skin taut, either having me do it or doing it herself, which makes the whole thing go much better.... she had me pull my skin out for two or three pulls instead of nearly all of them like my regular gal does. Worst of all, she waxed each area two or three agonizing times instead of once and then tweezing strays. The final insult to injury is that my husband discovered a large area that she completely missed, and more than ten strays. Unacceptable, especially for $65! Why on earth did I ever cheat on Bren, over at Bees Waxed Spa in West Seattle? Well, I know why... the drive. It ain't worth it... I'm driving... She said that wax wasn't hot because she didn't expect to need it, but she did turn it on. She did a good job on my legs though. I'd maybe go back to her for that for $40. And she did rewax the two bum spots on my bum. She still didn't use the bright light to check her own work, and she didn't apologize. Whatever. After my previous yelp review, the salon contacted me and suggested I try another stylist there and the services would be complimentary. I was a little apprehensive, but after another yelper wrote me an unsolicited private message about the same stylist, I felt hopeful that this might actually turn out to be a good experience. And wow, after 4 years of flying to DC, and 2 years of searching, I finally found a west coast Tom, except his name is Tony, and he is French as opposed to German. Tony turned my chunky messy layers into hassle free flowing locks. To give you a sense of how difficult my hair is... I had a cut 3 months ago by another Tewl stylist that turned into a bit of a mess. Then 6 weeks ago, a highly recommended Chinese stylist (in Beijing, no less) attempted to "fix" it to minimal avail. It took Tony getting his hands on it for my hair to really fall into place. Tony ($70) is a bit more pricey than Tom ($45), but Tony being 3000 miles closer more than makes up for it. So am I a Salon Tewl convert? In one non-existent compound word: "abso-freakin-lutely." The whole experience with the salon from the beginning to now have been fabulous... from Marta's (the owner?) attention to my satisfaction to Kristen's patience with scheduling around my crazy schedule to Tony's magical touch... This was my second visit to Tewl Salon for getting a haircut. Located in Bellevue downtown it's very easy to get through this salon and I love the service at Tewl. I had to book an appointment 2 weeks back to get haircut from Liuba. Liuba is really a genius. She understood what kinda haircut I was looking for and did an awesome job. She was very sweet and gave me few tips to style my hair. I was so happy with the final result and loved the way my hair transformed after the haircut. Started out nice but a down hill spiral from there. When it works well, it is fine but here are the cons: 1. Too much turnover at front desk. 2. Marta, the owner thinks texting you is better than speaking with you when you have left a message (multiple times over a few weeks) and have some questions and concerns. No issue and no good questions can be answered via texting. The attitude on this was beyond professional. 3. Tony can cut and shape hair well but i kept telling him not to cut it short...just a trim and yet he cut my hair so short! everyone keeps saying oh wow you cut your hair short..and that was not my intention. :( 4. Another gal cut my daughter's hair so poorly- uneven - one of her worse cuts. They did do a fix by having a different gal cut it and "fix" it. this fix was helpful. This salon is beyond unethical. Consultations mean absolutely nothing especially when price is involved. Can understand a difference of $100 but when you are quoted $300 and the end total was over $600, with zero communication during the process?! Absolutely unacceptable. When asked about the price difference I was told that she used extra glosses and the time it took for that was the price difference. I'm sorry but we didn't talk about the extras, and if I was asked I would have said no thank you. I had confirmed an appointment the day before for 11:45am. I sat in the salon and waited for the woman who was supppsed to cut my hair to arrive, but at 12:05 she still hadn't. I ended upand assumed she was not coming. I was really dissapointed with the lack of customer service. Update: I was contacted regarding this issue. It sounds like there was a scheduling miscommunication. They ended up offering me a complimentary haircut with Tony (who came in on his day off) and shampoo and conditioner. Tony was great!! BUYER BEWARE! This is my second ever Yelp review. I would not recommend this salon to anyhow! Tried to cancel right before the appointment due to taking someone with a serious heart condition to the ER (whom I mentioned was also a client of the salon!). In addition, a VM was left 48 hours prior to cancel part of the service and no one ever returned the call (I'm told they haven't had a receptionist in months), but Andrea, the salon's owner, tried to charge for the canceled portion as well. All other phone calls to communicate about the extra charge were declined by Andrea. Andrea, was THE most uncaring, rude, non-empathic business owner I have ever come across. Tried to talk to her in a respectful manner about my own experience as a business owner in the service industry, and I was hung up on. Never in my experience would I ever charge a client for an appointment missed due to an illness or medical emergency for the client or anyone close to the client. Andrea has a lot to learn about good customer service, and the salon is lacking in follow through. Best of luck to them holding on to employees. I understand several are leaving. This review is about the front desk staff - always polite and efficient, and about Liuba. Who absolutely made my day - what am I talking about, she made my weekend! - when I got married a couple of Saturdays ago. I needed light make-up for the civil ceremony and an up-do to last the entire day and evening. I wanted to wear a voilette and had no idea how to get it attached to my hair without looking ridiculous. I had purchased 2 of them on Amazon and hoped that Liuba would be able to figure out which one would look best with my hair AND be able to put it on in such a way that it would look pretty and stay put. She not only was able to "figure it out" but she did an amazing job with both the hair and the make-up. She exceeded my expectations in every way. Do not hesitate to contact her for make-up and hair. Long drawn out experience and in the end she was able to make me cry. She is intimidating over the phone and frightens me. I'll never step foot in her doors again. Yes, I admit it... I've received various hair color and conditioning services as well as haircuts and bang trims. It's nice to be able to get your hair done in a bright and open atmosphere.
