I have been a patient with Dr.Pudberry for awhile now and he is the worst.I need a prescription renewed, I have to come in for a blood pressure test and I get weighed That way he can Bill Medicare .Even during this pandemic, he won't call in a prescription unless he gets paid.This is the first doctor that refuses to give me refills, that way he has me over a barrel and the meds I'm receiving is something that can be had online ,but MediCare saves me $60.00 a month and this quack knows it.If I actually needed medical help, he simply refers to a doctor that knows what he's doing.He's great for folks that need a shoulder to cry on. read more

I went to see Dr. Pudberry for a cold, which I may add it was pretty bad. First I booked the appointment and was glad to see that they were able to schedule me right away. I then decided to search for him here on yelp and the previous reviews scared me a bit but figured -hey it is only for a cold, how bad can it be?! I have to say, it was probably my best doctor's appointment ever! The office and examination room are not "state of the art" but it is clean and has everything one can need. In addition, Dr. Pudberry practices western AND eastern medicine. I KNOW from personal experience that western medicine a lot of the times is NOT enough. So I was very happy to see that Dr. Pudberry treated me from both angles. He also spent a lot of time with me, when most doctors are trying to "score" as many patients as they can in one hour. I can deal with his abrasive people skills, and his 1960s medical equipment, but not his business practices. He clearly gets kickbacks from at least one company, for pushing their lab tests and products. He pressured me into taking an array of unnecessary tests, and falsely assured me that my insurance would cover them (they didn't - I had to pay). He also scheduled me to have unnecessary follow-up visits, so that he could charge my insurance company. I like the concept of an osteopathic doctor, but this one fails. read more

Seriously, he kicked me out before I could ask more than a few questions during my physical. When my blood tests came in, rather than saying that everything was fine, he told me that I must come in to discuss the results. Bam! Maybe it's because I'm not overweight, but I had zero problems with Dr. Pudberry. The night before a trip overseas, I realized that malaria medication might be a good idea. I showed up at Dr. Pudberry's office when he opened the next morning and waited only an hour (not bad for no appointment!). I had just switched primary providers through Blue Cross, and that was a little confusing, but his helpful staff got that straightened out. Dr. Pudberry went over precautions to take in developing countries and gave a me a script for malaria meds. Dr. Pudberry has for years (how old is he anyway?) been my go-to guy for my kids' quick-and-dirty doctor signature on the public school athletic medical clearance forms. For $20.00 (cash only) he'll sign their form after a 2-minute blood pressure check and looking at them for 30 seconds. Beats the co-pay at my kids' doctor's office and the whole visit is less than 10 minutes and their coach is happy. Would not see him for anything else, but he serves our purpose. read more

I would recommend you not to see this doctor. Overall I believe that he scams you into seeing him over and over if you come to him with an acute injury (I sprained my ankle and went over 8 times to see him in a month. He barely did anything and after a month he told me I would need various unproven remedies that would cost extra to heal my injury. I got my medical file and went somewhere else where they eventual recommended physical therapy that worked (which Dr. Pudberry was against). Besides that, the office is clusterfuck and I think his billing practices to insurance seem very questionable. I am sad at the poor reviews here and the harsh words. Dr. P is up in age yes but he knows his stuff. He can seem a little slow at times with his responses because he can't hear well, but he is very precise. He is a great osteopath Dr. I came there with bad pain in my upper cervical spine that I have had for years and spend thousands of dollars on meds, and other procedures that never helped me. He did a manipulation that is similar to chiropractic but no cracking and much more gentle. He then did a nerve test on me to take a closer look at where my issues were. He gave me what is called prolotherapy and is a natural pain block that aids in healing and much different from a cortizone shots which masks pain and doesn't help with healing and is temporary. His prices are good and he takes A LOT of time with you. He doesn't have a packed schedule like all doctors. This was a much different experience than most Doctors who make you feel like a number. He is helping my pain that is all I know. His office is different and has some antique medical stuff and is NOT dirty at all. I think is is kind of cool that he is old school. read more

I had an extremely terrible and awkward appointment with this doctor. From start to finish, here's how it went: -He told me that I can only answer questions with a yes or a no answer. As soon as I would want to elaborate on an issue he would cut me off saying something along the lines of, "I have my answer, you don't need to continue." when I really wanted to talk about it. (this happened a few times). First impression: Ok well this guys rude. -5 minutes in the session and I'm already upset with him. He started to notice that I was a bit edgy thinking that it was because I am a stressful person throughout my daily life, not having a clue that I was actually upset the whole time for this bogus appointment and the twenty dollar co-pay I just wasted. He began asking me about my current personal life and my past, trying to all of a sudden act as psychiatrist. It was very strange and unnecessary. -The whole office is a mess. Boxes everywhere. Broken down old TVs and radios on the side. I wanted to run as soon as I noticed. -I personally think he's trying to dig out as many appointments as possible from his clients just to get more co-pay money without ever helping them. I literally had no questions medically answered. I did my best not to pick up my belongings and leave without saying a word, but instead I told him thank you and that he wasn't the doctor for me and left. I had a pain that felt like a sprain in my wrist and foot that had been both persisting for around 3 monthes. He bends my wrist and says is it better? What the hell are you some miracle worker? The absolutely worst doctor I have ever been to/heard about. My boyfriend (who doesn't use yelp so I have to make sure his opinion gets voiced) has been going to him the past few years. He recently developed a nut allergy and went to see the doctor. He had his blood drawn and got the results a week later. The doctor was vague on the phone and didn't answer any of his questions. He did not answer any of our questions, said that he has a call he has to take, and suggested that if he has any questions to schedule another appointment to review the results which means more billable money for him. Today, my boyfriend came into him again about another issue and he was again unhelpful. He didn't prescribe any antibiotics when there was clearly a prescription medication that worked for him. He ended the appointment quickly and said that if this ever happens again to call and make another appointment and he'll write a prescription then which means more billable money for him. As others have mentioned, the office is old and cluttered with a very small waiting area ( no good for strollers or active small children ) but Dr. Pudberry is very kind,gentle and thorough. This was my first meeting and his nurse actually had to call him out as he took so long with me, I was cutting in to the next patient. I've been seeing Dr. Pudberry for six years now, and throughout this time he's treated me for a number of ailments whether it was the flu, a cold, or more serious health matters. His office isn't the fanciest, and technology isn't at the forefront of how he treats his patients, but you know what he does have? Over 40 years of practitioning experience that doesn't automatically default to prescribing drugs like many doctors we all know, an approach that recognizes mental health is also a large contributor for what happens to us physically, and an authentic interest in your overall well-being. If he recognizes you should be referred to a specialist, he's extremely well-networked as a result of his 40+ years experience so as to make you a referral for someone else that's highly likely a rock star in their field. Lastly, his staff are some of the nicest people I know. If you're someone who values technology over practitioning experience, or you're not open to hearing how you can achieve your best physical self, then yes, Dr. Pudberry likely isn't your best choice. In the meantime, if you're someone who appreciates a doctor that gives you more than 10 minutes of his/her time, allows time for you to ask your questions, and treats you for the right problems, then Dr. P's your man. I will admit that Dr. Pudberry is strange, but I like that he offers a choice of drugs or herbs. He doesn't had out antibiotics willy nilly and gives you his special test first. He does cut you off when talking, but that means that he has understood what you are saying. I think he doesn't have patience for long talkers. I will say that he has helped with some conditions. He is eccentric and definitely not for everyone. Since he is about the "whole body", I have spent a great deal of time talking to him about my life in general. It is wise to ask how much things cost first. As some of the remedies and tests (the naturopathic ones) may not not be covered by your health insurance. Dr. Pudberry is different! While I can see from other reviewers that they don't or can't relate to his style, he has been my doctor for the last three years and has helped me through a torn calf muscle (ouch!), a number of colds, and a badly injured back (from too much trail running). Each time, Dr. Pudberry has quickly made time for me, addressed my problems, and helped me get well fast. His office is extremely (and I do me extremely) retro, he doesn't care about fancy new equipment like tables and chairs. But, his focus on the latest in medicine is wonderful. I work in the medical field and I can only wish we had more doctors who spent the time to educate themselves that Dr. Pudberry has. Alright, so this review is slightly overdue based on the time of my last experience with him but it is much warranted. I think a majority of the negative reviews on here have to do with the way he carries his misdemeanor as a healthcare professional (which I think if you are someone who is very easily offended and/or defensive in nature, this physician is not for you) but I did not think he was ever rude by any stretch. You cannot be used to concierge medicine, because this is not it, nor is 95% of doctor visits you go to. He's a straight-shooter when he talks and gets straight to the point (and with current insurance reimbursement rates what they are today, totally understandable). I understand he's also had a career as a pharmacist beforehand, so I think it's always a plus when your physician closely understands the pharmacology of your prescriptions and caters that to your regimen plan. Now to the main point, if you're looking for an osteopathic physician who has experience with OMT/OMM then I think he's your guy. He's got some good experience with cranial therapy if interested, but I have yet to really look into that. He's in his 80's and has done this for a while. Experience really is key when it comes to manipulative treatments. As anecdotal evidence I've seen multiple patients of his whom have been involved in automotive injuries and accidents that swear by him. I hate to use the word "holistic," but I feel he does a good job of taking in lifestyle factors into account prior to prescribing any medications. Really simple things such as healthy eating and exercise can really go a long way. I inquired about the specific companies or pharmacies he chooses for his prescriptions, and his reasoning relies on his previous experience reading up on drug panel results for potency and efficacy of the medication so he chooses what he feels is best for his patients. So in regards to many contrasting reviews on this site I feel that if you want a physician who has a wealth knowledge and experience as well as a genuine interest in your health and well-being, I think he does a great job at that. read more

This was the worst experience with a medical doctor I have ever had. First of all, I think this guy is swindling people out of money one "modest fee" at a time. I certainly feel swindled, and I still haven't received my bill, which I am dreading. Secondly, I think he is completely incompetent. And, I wouldn't trust him for a second. He was on my insurance in-network list, and I had been sick for a week, and I needed a primary care visit fast. They were able to take me the very next morning. I had a bad feeling about it even after the phone call, but I didn't listen to myself - regretfully. I made the mistake of passing on a couple of those same-day clinic options in the City, because I thought I would save money with someone in-network. I looked for reviews on Yelp and I couldn't find them. I don't know why. It was only after the appointment that I saw these reviews that totally jive with my terrible experience. The office is in unacceptable condition. The exam room is awkward, uncomfortable, and cluttered. He argued with me when providing him symptoms, and often. He took an unusually long time to make an assessment (inconclusive and wrong one at that). He encouraged me to take a $25 "CPM" test, which he said could not be covered by insurance, but would tell him if what I had was viral or bacterial. What?????? Because I thought I could have a virus, I agreed, but reluctantly. The whole thing was so suspicious. The nurse (I assume) came in pricked my finger, and then later came back with a piece of paper. He explained that he was one of the doctor's that had gotten this test approved (but it didn't pass clearance the first time), and that for some administrative reasons he couldn't bill it to the insurance. Anyway, I felt swindled out of $25 right there. And, perhaps there is a legal reason why he can't bill the test - maybe because it is BULL or because it's illegal??????????????? I really just wanted to walk out the entire time I was in his presence. He continuously made these ego serving comments, like (paraphrased): "I don't think any doctor is going to come up with anything more brilliant than me" or "Of course you don't know, you aren't a doctor like I am"....He took forever, going off on all these tangents - insisting he could help me with this or that (trying to sell me, of course). He was rude at times and extremely defensive. Then he even questioned a referral I was given from my long-time out-of-area doctor, so that he could practically shove a new referral down my throat. God knows he will probably find a way to charge me for that. I agreed to take the referral only so he could shut up, and get to the issue at hand. In the end, I got no answers - he went about suggesting I get more tests in way that only alarmed me and to rule out something that was pretty much impossible. My symptoms were so obvious not to need that "rule out", according to other clinicians I spoke to later that day. None of this had any knowledge of such finger prick test, which obviously is a big con. I am so pissed. I should have walked out the minute and I walked in, but I really needed a doctor that day. When I initially refused tests because I told him I can't afford to run around doing a bunch of tests, unless they were absolutely necessary. He said, he is concerned about his patient's budgets! Bull S@#$ Lastly, he wasted yet another ten minutes recommending a dietary supplement that he could give me for a "modest fee" of $10. I walk to the counter (a wasted hour later), and the woman is giving me a little box with NO LABELING, just her hand writing with the name of the pills. I asked her, what is this? She pulled out a bottle of some dietary supplement - which she had opened, pulled out like 10/15 pills, and then re-packaged - to charge me $10! Is that LEGAL????????????????? He is not a pharmacist, and even if it is a supplement, it needs to be dispensed and sealed with labeling. And, also an entire bottle of what he was offering is no more than $15 online. So, WHAT THE HELL IS HE CHARGING $10! for?????? Everything about this guy is questionable. Seriously, I feel creeped out and swindled. The more time that passed from my appointment, the more pissed off I get. As I said, now I am just expecting issues with the bill. I think that Dr. Pudberry likes to create more appointments than is necessary so that he can bill the insurance companies. I called, after several appointments, to ask a simple question and he answered the main phone then started to complain that he had a training going on in his office and that he didn't have time to answer my questions. Then he passed the phone off to a very confused nurse/receptionist. He is rude, condescending and aloof. His office looks like a dirty storage unit and the exam room has old boxes and junk everywhere. THIS MAN SAVED MY LIFE! HE IS A LEGEND IN MY LIFE STORY, told many times! When I was much younger years ago, I was a young mother and very ill.I was diagnosed with diabetes. I had 2 doctors tell me I would shoot insulin for life. I found a third opinion; Dr. Pudberry. He also suggested insulin, but respected my desire to try to beat it with diet. I signed the waver and he spent HOURS with me devising a diet. He gave me an extended glucose test and we found I went high and low over hours of time. He gave me a diet that took everything into consideration, devised for ME. He spent so many hours with me and I beat the disease, never to return! I later joined the military, raised my children, and told the story of how he saved me with a diet, in a time when other MD's would not even take nutrition into consideration. A true pioneer, that knows his stuff. I will always be forever grateful and his name is a legend in my life story! Yes, he has books everywhere, and he went through many of them finding the right answers for me. He asked me questions regarding my metal health, as thoughts and mindset play a big part in our physical health. Doctors did not understand that back then, but he did. i like this doctor and was happy to find out that he was also a gynecologist. he did a physical on me and explained everything to me and showed me the results of my tests. he even had one of his staff come in the room with us while he checked me. i liked that and i didn't have to ask. he made me feel very comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. he seems genuinely concerned and takes action. i don't really like his office setup either but i have overlooked it since he has been a great doctor so far. his staff does speak english. they are just not overly friendly. i also like the fact that he doesn't hand out prescriptions like candy and he doesn't work for the insurance companies and doesn't like them telling him how to practice medicine. read more

I saw this doc some time ago, but I came in with a swollen and sore throat. I was in terrible pain. The first thing I noticed was the cluttered and disorganized office-- there were stacks and stacks of newspapers and boxes in the waiting and exam room. I had to move some of the newspaper to find a seat. Pudberry looked at my throat and prescribed a high-dose of Vitamin C and sent me on my way. I took the vitamins for a week and still in misery. Went to another doc, who diagnosed me with strep throat and antibiotics. This guy should not be practicing and I'm surprised he hasn't been hit with a malpractice suit by now... read more

He didn't wear gloves when he took my blood and then when I asked him where I could throw away the blood soaked cotton ball, he took it with his bare hands and threw it in the waste bin. If you're really sick, and no one else can help you, this doctor is the one to see. What is important is he has many lifetimes of experience, and continues to learn all types of new things. He is a real healer, unlike many providers out there that are just putting Band-Aids on peoples problems. Just trust that he has your best interest in mind, he is not like any other doctor you have probably ever seen if you're still sick. No doctor could help me in over 12 years, and he literally got me better in six months. Now he's working on things I had wrong with me for over 25 years. Keep in mind that he is in his 80s, and hard of hearing. He is a straight shooter, and he really cares about his patients. His office is cluttery but he is a genius!! He really listens to his patients, and asks the questions he needs to get the answers to their problems. I was not so thrilled when I walked into the tiny, old office but loved my experience with Dr. Pudberry and his staff. Very no nonsense and likes to get straight to the point. I liked that. In 10 years plus, Pudberry has sucessfully resolved a lot with joint issues that I've had. His approach is more homeopathic than most MDs, and he looks for causes rather than just treating symptoms. As a retired Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, I would like to think after 30+ years of working with physicians I am a fairly good judge of them. I have by choice been seeing Gene Pudberry for my personal health care as well as referring him to others for over ten years. I like and respect Dr Pudberry because he combines the virtues of the ideal county doctor with an amazing knowledge of cutting edge medicine despite his "austere" office and country doctor persona. The guy is sharp. He has literally saved some friends from surgery whom I have referred to him through his knowledge of alternative therapies such as prolotherapy and cognitive therapy. Dr Pudberry is also one of the few Osteopaths who still does manipulations. Great for your chronic back and neck problems without drugs! At the same time he will prescribe allopathic treatments (pills) when necessary. Dr Pudberry is straight forward. He will tell you like it is. I caution friends I refer to him to over look his office because that is not an indicator of who he is.
