Terrible experience, I saw they were open until 5pm and called them. I was told they had my parts and that they would take them off as soon as I got there. I drove 3 hours and got there at 3:30pm and was told I should've came at 2 and it was elaborated in my call (it wasn't) and nothing could be done. Avoid, absolutely! I placed an order on a Monday for 2 parts totaling $70 plus shipping. This was to be shipped Monday or Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon I received a phone call from a salesperson who informed me that they would not accept any form of payment from me except bank wire because I was "located in MD" and shipping to WV. I explained that this was a cell phone, and that I have had the number since May of 2000. I placed a total of 8 orders on Monday with other used auto parts merchants, all over the country, and have ordered hundreds of times this year alone and have NEVER heard of such a thing. In this day and age, who doesn't know that you can keep your cell phone number when you move? Apparently General Auto recycling's sales manager doesn't know this. He refused to accept my Visa card even though the shipping address matches the account address, and even with the CVV number. I even offered to send him a photo of my drivers license showing the same address, and my business card showing the same address as well as my cell phone number. No dice. Looking at all the other negative reviews here now and in light of those, I should not be surprised that they choose to totally disregard their Visa Merchant Agreement. I've already contacted Visa and they are investigating. I doubt one report will cause them to lose their merchant status, but if they keep doing this kind of thing, they will eventually lose that ability. With all the negative reviews here, it's obvious that those in charge don't care at all how customers are treated. I guess as long as money is coming in, all is good, right G.A.R? I came in, ask where I can find a person with whom I had phone conversation - immediately was told to "relax". What? Nice way to greet prospective client, not. They want cash only. You have to wait for the part to be pulled from the vehicle even I offered to pre-pay with the card day earlier. Not a pleasant experience. I called several times to make sure that the fender was there, then drove 4 hours to get the fender. Came in then they said to wait so they can take it off, 15 minutes later, "I am sorry the fender disappeared" " Nothing we can do about it" Again I called several times and they said they had it. What a waste of time. Oh and you cannot pre pay for something either, you have to drive and pay cash only. What a place. Zero stars would be appropriate. read more

My rating is as accurate as everyone else's who have reviewed this place. I must say, coming to this place and seeing how massive and organized their lot is made me optimistic that they have a lot of goodies to choose from. I popped into their office with the intentions of finding a radio for my car. I know what my car needs, and what it takes. I wanted to see what they had on the shelves, or perhaps browse at their partings. Access denied! The miserable looking sap at the desk greeted me with "what do you want?" Already a bad start. I asked to take a glance at their inventory. The man behind the desk seemed to be agitated that I wanted to give him business. He replied no, and proceeded with that I would have to describe my car in order to find what I need. I found that method to be useless because I wanted to view what they had and make my own choice. I am capable of installing one and know what to look for. He was not for that idea and made me feel inferior for wanting to buy a radio. Rude and unhelpful. This is all based on my experience and opinion on them. If you choose to go there, I hope your experience is more successful than mine. read more

Scam. This place will find every way to screw you over. Couldn't accept my credit card because I "Just didn't understand used car parts and their paperwork". Wanted a bank transfer, I figured no big deal, my bank charged me 30 bucks and then general auto tacked on a charge of $13 to accept a bank transfer. Got pictures of my interior parts before shipment, looked ok, no close ups, saw two broken parts that I could get replacements for not a huge deal. Received, every single panel and part had multiple pick marks like someone with a dental tool had no idea how to take it apart, completely unusable, panels pried off and broken, leather armrest with small rips all across the back where they were prying on it. Watch a damn YouTube video or something. My center console comes off with 6 bolts, no pick tool needed. Sent an email complaining, asked for a refund for price of the part, they said no problem, send it back, I said I can drop it off next Friday, ok. Drive 2 hours out the following Friday, they said they couldn't accept it without original invoice. I said we have been talking, you couldn't have told me that? "I didn't expect you to show up". I said it's in digital form, you guys have all my info. "No you don't understand used car parts, we have watermarks and stuff". If you are returning something to Walmart you need your receipt, I said no you don't! Rude, scam, and now I see I can't fight a bank transfer, once it's sent, it's sent. Purchased a steering rack for a customers car from them. Originally they told me id have it in a few days. It ended up taking a few weeks to recieve. Then they tell me they had to replace the inner and outer tie rods and were waiting on the parts from porsche. I recieved the rack and installed in the customers car. Found out that the tie rod they replaced was not a porsche part like they claimed. After the rack was installed (5hr job) i find out the rack is bent internally and it is almost impossible to steer the vehicle now. I call them right away on it and oh big suprise not gonna cover it even though they knew there was a problem from the start and tried to hide it. I bought an engine and was supposed to have them come pick up the core for $750 they gave me so many reasons why they cannot come pick up the engine from the mechanic they told Engine wasn't Tied-down properly I had to come in one time and didn't even called to let the Mechanic know that they was coming.. after I went tied down properly bought ratchet scraps then put the engine on another pallet 375 pounds. Send pictures to Jason he confirmed that it was good to go he had to check with his freak manager . At the months and months of not returning phone calls and blocking me Jason had to be threatened legal fees for his manager to give me a call back.. then after speaking to his manager he told me that it's been over 60 days and they attempted four times to come get the engine lol and also he cannot come pick the edge of no no more and it was my responsibility all the mechanic responsibility to return the engine to them SMFH .. i'm taking legal action this is not over I guarantee ,you cannot just rip people off like this people are hard-working read more

I wouldn't buy anything form this place. They claim to have a 30 day warranty on a used transmission then when it fails instantly after 4 miles they keep your money and tell you to pound sand. Now your out $1500 and the labor to install. Absolutely unsatisfied. Thanks for nothing would have thought more of them if they at least gave me another one or half my money back. Absolutely horrendous experience. Saw a part advertised on car-part, called them, they were polite, friendly and took my order. Then they never shipped the order. For a week. When I ordered I was told the part would ship that day. And when I called to follow up I was on hold for a half an hour or more until I was hung up on. Three times. They were downright nasty. I called my credit card company and bought the part from another vendor. I'd suggest looking at their google reviews, I am far from alone. read more

Hello please do not buy anything from these people , I purchased a mini Cooper radio was promised it worked, well it was not it would not work I called and spoke to rob he told me I had to have it programmed at mini I went there and was told a 2011 did not have to get programed. I called Rob up again and told Rob this and then he said for me to send pictures which I did well after all this the radio does not work in our the money and now was told to send the radio back to them I did this and still did not get my money back from them. Now I am dealing with my bank and of course General auto recycling does not take American express I see why they would be broke and out of business with all the charge backs. So please do not purchase anything from this horrible company. I spoke to Jay, the big lazy ass one that sit behind his desk. I specifically told him I want a front end of a specific car n model. . He told me he have it, but the only thing wrong with it is, it has a little damaged on the fender, which was fine with me.
