Posting after seeing a post where someone 1 starred and then says they ordered samples to go cross country... and noticed poster is in Venice, CA. GBS is in Boyle Heights, (LA, CA) a mere 20 miles away. so IDK what posters definition of "Across Country" is.... maybe Cross county, but I digress. I only pick up Locally, not online, but the prices are better than online, and the customer service is really great. and I worked in CSR for over a decade. so, game recognize game. First of all, if you notice there are a suspicious number of 5-star reviews for General Bottle from December of 2014, and then mostly 1- to 3-star reviews from all other time periods, that's because (in line with their general deceptive business practices) General Bottle ran a promo in November and December of 2014 where if you wrote a 5-star review, you got a $25 credit. I have uploaded a picture of their flyer from that time period as proof, and you can actually check the date and GPS data embedded in that photo to see that indeed it was taken at General Bottle's headquarters in December of 2014. Without the fake 5-star reviews, this is a 2-star business at best. Caveat emptor. Secondly, I have been a customer of General Bottle for a number of years and my real experience there has been terrible: the reps lie to my face about pricing, there have been too many errors with orders, they are out of supply regularly. The salespeople are unprofessional. I have no axe to grind, this is just me being honest. Like some other commentators have said, I have been a good customer here over the years and have received nothing but deception and bad service most of the time in return. I have not seen the service improve. Just know that there are other options out there. General bottle might be ok if you're buying in tiny quantities (if you can put up with the aforementioned problems), but if you're buying any type of commercial quantities, do your research online. GREAT jar and bottle selection, but SUPER bummed out about the amount of styrofoam they use. So very unnecessary given the alternatives out there available. I'm not a crazy advocate for our planet, by any means, I am the average consumer and even I know better. As good as the prices are, and as great as the selection is, it's just not sustainable to support such reckless packaging. Not only does it take over 500 years to break down completely, it broke down just enough in transit to cover all over my boxes of jars, and the static is making it difficult to get them off, causing little pieces of styrofoam to dance all over our patio and be swept away by the wind. Found this place on Yelp and decided I needed to check it out. SO GLAD I did! Walking in is a little overwhelming, but there are plenty of employees to ask for assistance. They have a big variety of bottles and jars made of glass and plastic and their pricing is UNBEATABLE. After you place an order, you have to wait outside for the warehouse guys to pull your order. December 1, 2017: It makes sense for the company to shamelessly attempt to discredit the customer. I'm not invested in any way- to be dishonest about my experience, my suggestion to check hours stands because I was unpleasantly surprised more than once. Wow! ANOTHER negative experience at General Bottle Supply. I decided to give the business a second chance. I came in, placed my order with a sales rep, and after about 20 minutes, a different person approached me. In front of other customers, and his staff, he showed me a print out of my Yelp review for the company, and instead of addressing my concerns- he said I could not complete my purchase unless I took my review down. I wrote an honest review, and customers should be aware- isn't that what Yelp is for??? Terrible business practice and even worse customer service! Previous review: Variety is ok, but with every order, I always get faulty bottles, broken droppers, etc. Store hours are inconsistent too. Business days before holidays- they close at 11. and on regular days although their hours are 8-4:30, they close their doors at 4, or rush you if you come in around 4. I can't understand why the sales people are so rude here. I've been coming in to get supplies for over 4 years and I walk out their door feeling sad every time. I thought it was just me because I can be sensitive but my very nice friend who gets along with everyone says the same thing about them. Always out of stock, sometimes for months... They discontinue items but keep them on the shelves and on the website. Many items displayed are special order only or they just don't have them, but still keep them on display. If you order more than 5 different things it takes sooo long for to fill it. This is an article in regards to customer service although, there are plenty other issues including pricing and the diversity in inventory... I've been a customer here, off and on for around 4 years. As all small businesses do, we have our ups and downs and sometimes have to source cheaper outlets or new vendors. I've given away at least $100,000 total from the past years worth of business to General Bottle and I walk in there today to only be greeted by a person whom, I thought was decent guy but tells me, "Since you haven't been here for awhile (few months) you have to pay a 50 dollar minimum". Now, there's a few problems I have with this... One, this specific person wasn't my original rep, who for sure would have waived it or helped out in some way instead of this particular greeting and two, I wanted to test out their products with some samples (maybe 10 dollars worth) to see if I would use them for bigger business once again. Now, considering you can't even test out the products without paying 50 dollars, I don't want anything to do with them because it shows they are simply money hungry and not attune to who their clients actually are. I would say, majority being small businesses or startups who can't afford to pay 50 dollars for strictly sampling. AND not to mention, and once again, their loyalty to clients whom have given them 10's of thousands of dollars in the past, don't even get a pass or a little relief when in need... Ridiculous. If you're looking for some appreciation and loyalty for your business down the line, definitely don't use General bottle. If you are looking for diversity, don't use General Bottle and lastly, if you don't have $50 to spend on just some samples to try and test products, definitely don't use General Bottle.
