Over the holidays I was visiting my elderly parents in Southern California, Inland Empire area, when I realized the water from the laundry, showers, and sinks were backing up dramatically. We stopped using the toilets and immediately searched online for a reputable plumber to assist in our emergency. Being the holidays, a full house, and the weekend I figured we would be gouged by any of the big name, highly advertised plumbing services. I searched the web for a local, smaller, and more service oriented outfit. This is when I came across General Plumbing Services. I called them and left a message with minor details of my parents pirellis plumbing problems. With-in the half hour my call was returned by Chris who was the owner of the company. During that half hour i called two other outfits, neither of which returned my call, and researched General Plumbing Services on Yelp and on Face Book. I found out on Facebook that GPS posts pics and information on projects that they have worked on. These posts cover many aspects of residential plumbing that behove a wannabe handyman like me. Check valves, PEX piping, and slab leaks, all greek to me but with Chris's comments and quips he seems to help noobs like me get a basic understanding of whats under the sink and behind the john. He stated that he could be out in several hours and explained his general idea of what the problem was and gave me a ball park price of what to expect. He showed up one hour early and reassured my price consciences parents he was here to help, not gouge. The problem ended up being roots in a main line and excessive potty paper and feminine hygiene products getting caught up in the roots. He sent some camera deelebob down the shoot to get a picture of the problem, then sent some matrix looking probe to solve the problem. Once the roots were all trimmed up the water flowed with no problem. The bill was easy to understand and easy to pay since it was not an arm and a leg. Chris seems to be an honest man providing a quality service i am not willing to do, Love you mom and dad, but sorry, not my bag! He came in well under what I was expecting a plumber to charge during a holiday with a obvious full house. Honest, informative, and customer focused. I am hoping my parents pooper will grace his Face Book page one day! He and my father have scheduled a time for him to remove the section of root filled pipe in the front of the house, probably old clay or iron or something, with root proof pipe. I had a problem with a main shut off valve and leaking hose Bibb on the copper supply line on the outside of my house. Called after noon and got a very quick call back. Chris said he could come by after he finished his current job (in Orange county) and fix me up. He arrived on time, got to work right away and did an excellent job cutting, fitting and soldering new valves in place. Called after hours, about 7:30 PM For an emergency service, spoke with Chris, he quoted me over the phone said he could be at my house in an hour. He showed up 30 minutes early which was a relief. My toilets weren't flushing at all, not something I could have with children in the house. Chris worked very diligently to fix the problem. 2 1/2 hours later he was still trying but was unable to get it fixed that night. He said he would be back. The next evening. He showed up promptly, said he was going to finish the job. He did everything he could and successfully fixed the problem. He was determined to find the problem and fix it! Chris was beyond professional! I had several issues happening in my home, that were very minor but definitely needed to be looked at. I was once a plumber for a short while and knew the signs to look for when it came to "this & that, needs to be replaced." Chris blew me away within 5 minutes checking different areas of the home and finding the true issue of why I was consistently fixing and repairing small things. "Flappers, fill valves, gaskets".... He revealed that my PRV was bad and allowing way above recommend water pressure into my house, causing to much pressure into all faucets, showers, & toilets. Chris came to my house Friday late afternoon, showed me the issues, and I asked him if I could try the repairs myself or wait over the weekend to think about it all. Chris proceeded to stay in constant contact and texted me bright & early Monday morning to check on any progress. This is our second time using GPS. We had a rubber washer machine hose that would not disconnect from faucet adapter even when we tried oiling it. We had GPS come out because we did not want to break the line. Chris did a wonderful job even though the head completely broke off due to erosion he was able to save the line so we did not have to cut into the drywall and replace the entire unit. While turning off our water he also notice that the main water valve outside had a leak and fixed that as well. Just from talking to this guy, I would definitely NOT recommend him. I called because we had an emergency plumbing issue & instead of coming to help, all he did was keep me on the phone for half an hour going on & on about bio hazards & not being afraid to use your insurance co. for reimbursements etc.??? which had nothing to do with what I was calling about . I just wanted my plumbing fixed!!!! I ended up having to hang up on him because ever time I tried to get a word in he would say, "Don't interrupt, I am trying to talk" Go figure??? Who called who? We needed a plumber & running water, NOT an expose on the possibilities of mold developing from sitting water.......& on & on & on. My water heater went out and he installed a new water heater at a great price. He also hauled away the old water heater for me.
