General Quarters is a bad-ass men's clothing store. Done. Oh wait? You want me to elaborate? Hmmm.. First of all, you can tell that the owner, Blair, has a hell of an eye for interior design. The store is a minimalist-meets-WWII-industrial feast for the eyes. It fills you with nostalgia, and a longing for men to dress even remotely as well as they did back then. The clothing has an effortless cool, and is priced so reasonably, it caught me by surprise. Lastly, do NOT leave without buying one of the candles located at the register. I can't remember EXACTLY what it's called, but the burgundy label is what EVERY man should smell like, in a perfect world. Le sigh.

My most favorite t-shirts I've ever bought! Come here every time I'm in LA. Owner is super kind as well. Love it.

Kevin was a great a help - very efficient and has a good eye for what your fit is. Highly recommend.

I originally planned on having all my groomsmen rent suits, but once I found this shop and realized it was actually cheaper to BUY full setups here than rent somewhere else, it became a total no brainer. The pricing is honestly insane for what you get. For under $200 out the door, we got the suit, shirt, tie, belt and shoes. They also have pretty much every color you can think of which made it super easy to coordinate everything for the wedding. What really stood out was how helpful they were throughout the whole process. They kept track of all the pieces for each groomsman so when everyone came in, everything was already matched and organized. That made things way less stressful on my end. A couple things to know going in: they don't have an in house tailor and the pants come unhemmed, but they have a bunch of tailoring recommendations and it honestly wasn't a big deal considering the price. After the wedding, I ended up going back and buying 3 more suits because the value is just that good. As long as I live in LA, I'll keep coming back here.

I tried on the flannel at the store which I really enjoyed and bought the sweater after being recommended it from the dude who was helping me. I can confidently say he was 100% right about the sweater. The quality of the fabric is genuinely worth the price. Immediately, when I put on the sweater for the first time, I could tell this was the real deal. The sweater felt like how sweaters used to be made back in the day when they had a ton of quality and you knew it was going to last a long time with proper care. And the same with the flannel I immediately loved the flannel when I tried it on but the sweater was something truly amazing in my opinion. I used to be into Born X Raised a lot and would buy various sweaters from their drops over the years literally hoping they would one day use the quality Freenote uses and they never have. Over the last year was looking for a new label to support and it's definitely this one. I was extremely happy with my purchases and look forward to returning

I walked into a basically empty store with several employees just staring at me. No greetings or offers to help... Ok... I walked straight back to the women's section. Seeing that the hoodie wasn't out on the floor, I walked over to the nearby female employee and asked her "do you guys have the hoodie with the white strings? The zip-up hoodie?". She replied "no, no, no, no" while looking at me funny. I was really taken aback. Who talks to someone like that? I browsed a little more and walked out. I called the Silverlake store to see if they had it in stock and they did so I bought it there. They were not stuck up like the folks at Larchmont. I really loved the store so I went back to pick up a classic white T and I believe the lady that helped me her name was Suma, a Petite brunette with an impeccable sense of style. She was a wealth of knowledge, super professional and super sweet. She broke down exactly what each cut is and how the fit would be, and how each T-Shirt was made. She suggested The perfect size, it Literately felt tailored to me, also suggested, I try the classic and the Japanese cotton. I tried both and ended up getting the classic because I felt the Japanese Although is a beautiful T-shirt, I would go right through it because it was so delicate. Does Flirt Clothing live up to its name?…read more If you're expecting an inanimate building to ask your name and number, then no. And if you're expecting the employees to ask you "come here often?" before motioning the barkeep to bring you another of whatever you're having, then still, NO. Or maybe yes. Just not with me. Pffft. The clothes are definitely fun and flirty, though -- if you wear them. Flirt is the typical Melrose kitsch store -- one-offs and private labels abound. Not too many jean choices (mostly charcoal gray), and not that many T-shirts, but the ones they have will have you going gaga, lady. What's a boy like me doing reviewing an exclusively girl's store? Well, I have no intention of wearing that off-the-shoulder blouse or sundress (hmm... with the right belt and handbag, I -- nevermind), but the store is definitely a pleasant place, even if you're just waiting on girls to finish trying things on. You can stand there awkwardly listening to the early 1990s era boombox that's pumping out KISS FM all day (Lil Wayne seems determined to make me his fan), or check yourself out in the mirrors on the wall. "Oh you are quite the looker, aren't you..." Anyway, speaking of incredible, psychologically unhealthy narcissism (or not, whatever), the pink-curtained dressing rooms have matching pink folding chairs -- everything in the store has either touches or tons of pink, which sounds like a Hello Kitty nightmare but is actually kind of cute in a flamingo-pecked-my-eyes-out way. When you try things on, it's with a soft background of Pepto Bismo, but it does make that hotgasmic pair of koolats stand out in palatial, plaid glory. Sweet Heavens, but you're beautiful. Now close your curtain -- that weird tattoo guy with his tattooier girlfriend can see your thong. Hey, the stuff you're trying on is on sale, too! At least a fourth of the store is half off, so you'll have more money left over to blow on things like shoes, handbags, and rent. Service is fast, friendly, and helpful -- they'll make useful suggestions that aren't lame attempts at plus-selling. Flirt Clothing does lose one star because they forgot to remove a security tag on a $240 hobo bag. Now I'm going to have to come back tomorrow -- with receipt -- to have them remove it because SOMEBODY'S too busy (*cough* gainfully employed) to do so herself. I'm going to play like it's mine. It looks cuter on me anyway :-)

I bought a beautiful purple scarf with brown leopard spots on it the other day. The material was like that of a soft sweater. It was only $19.00. I could've gotten a better deal on it if I bargained with the lady there, but I didn't since the price was already low. Also, she was nice and showed me how to tie it since I wasn't sure how to wear it. I always leave scarves untied up until now. She showed me and it was easier than it I thought it would be. I really appreciated that. Also, it was great that she could actually break a $100.00 bill. Some places can't. If you're not familair with the area, you might not know that due to lots of competition, sometimes the shop owner or manager will give you a discount on clothes and other items if you ask them for one. Sometimes they are so eager to sell, they just offer you a good deal. I didn't want to appear cheap though, so I didn't bother asking. It was also nice that she didn't bug me or follow me around like a lot of the shop employees tend to do sometimes. This is a great place and I'll come back here next time I'm in LA.
