They have been around longer than the war...Revolutionary War...since 1745 to be exact...and it felt very cool to be in such as historic place. Our home office Executive Assistant, Natalie, recommended this place to us five hungry Californians. We had a very productive, long day of meetings and now needed to eat and wind down. On a side note, I had sprained my ankle and was in a wheelchair, so I was hesitant to go out. Yet though my co workers were great pushing me around, once inside the GM pushed me to our table...how cool is that? Our wait person greeted us, and for drinks, we all wanted water and a glass of Starmont Cab, and she suggested we get the bottle instead. With soft tannins and hints of berry-olive, it would be great with with dinner. Unlike some people I know, this place has class with understated elegance...white tablecloths, and formal table setting, The clientele is mostly older and business persons impressing their clients. This would be perfect for a celebration, and my co workers and I definitely were celebrating. We were the laughing table and did our best to keep our volume down. One of my co-workers looked around and said "hey Will, there are a bunch of old people here...but you're the only person in a wheelchair" . `-haha...the night was full of sly comments and laughter The menu was impressive with creative classic and adventurous items, i.e. gluten free appetizers such as Octopus salad. The gluten options included Kobe beef and shrimp lobster sliders. The also have vegetarian small plate options such as strawberry endive salad. Despite being tempted by scallops, Maryland crab cake (with no fillers), salmon, duck and pork entrees, we wanted beef. And our waitress made it a point it was grass fed beef.. which I know is.leaner with more heart healthy, anti cancer Omega 3's than grain fed beef. Three if us had the Rib eye special, including me. The portions were generous, the rub on the meat was bursting with flavor. When we cut into the meat, all of ours were cooked almost perfectly though my medium was closer to medium rare which was fine with me. Seared nicely, slicing the tender juicy meat was easy, and we all said "mmm" several times. The yummy local potatoes and spinach sides was fresh and texture of the potatoes was smooth. It complimented the delicious beef. Two in the party had Beef Wellington, with filet mignon inside a crust with veggies. It was excellent, too but one was overcooked. People in thr office said that overcooked meat has happened to them as well. For dessert we shared a slice of chocolate sea salt layer cake. It was excellent, rich and moist. I told the big boss the next day about our nice dining experience. He said General Warren royally messed up the last time he hosted 18 people last Christmas. They did not get the room they reserved, and the servers dumped the appetizers onto their tables. Thankfully, our night went well. And hopefully we can come back., read more

Have not been here in years but so glad I recently made up for that. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here a few weeks ago. The outdoor seating was just perfect and completely decorated for Fall. The lighting and fire pit added to the ambiance. The service and food presentation was top notch. We both loved our meals...the halibut over pesto mashed potatoes was a highlight. They were trying out a new Fall drink menu. I recommend the cider mimosas. read more

We drove a half an hour to get there because the owner of the VRBO that we stayed at said it was totally worth the drive. The restaurant is a lovingly restored Inn. The restoration was elegant and authentic and a pleasure to dine in. The food was magnificent (my daughter and I shared the Beef Wellington because we also wanted to have an appetizer and salad and dessert and drinks) and our server was wonderful. Below on the terrace they had a live band. I fell in love with the paint colors used throughout. The owner was kind enough to go in the basement and check the can and tell me what color he used. Who does that? I am so happy that he shared his paint color with me. Then to top things off I had the best old fashion I have ever drank. It's called Honeycomb Old Fashion. I loved it not because I'm a Beekeeper but because it was so delicious. And to top everything off Sheila told me how she fermented the honeycomb and how to make the drink. This place is a must for fine dining. There were lots of gluten-free options on the menu, and everything was delicious. They have a little sun porch area that gives off a great ambiance for date night or any kind of special celebration. This is so sad, because it has been a favorite for so many years. I called the manager before I posted to let him know, and he insisted I was wrong - went there for our anniversary and got beef wellington which I was looking forward to for ages. I've had it there before. As I told him, it was 1/3 the size and much more expensive, but he insisted it was the same size (I know what the size used to be it is my special occasion dish) and what a disappointment. The ambiance is great, if you are outside under the building, which is the reason I gave it two stars. The food was very unremarkable and in fact really a disappointment. I see other reviews that say it wasn't as good as usual, and it also looks like it is often busy which may explain why the manager didn't care. But - as long time (a decade?) customers, this will no longer be a special occasion place. It's sad. read more

Historic classic ambiance, very attentive service and super impressive food. Menu offers a mix of classics and lighter more modern fare, with many gluten free options. My wife went for beef Wellington, very well executed, delicious Demi. I had the sea bass with black garlic parsnip purée and saffron tomato chick peas. What a wonderful place! As you go inside you are greeted with the smell of a real wood burning fireplace and the staff are all so friendly. There were 16 of us and we had a private room with a fireplace. It was very cosy, just loved being here. I had the crab cakes as a starter and it was probably one of the best I've eaten. There was no filling just 100% crab seasoned perfectly. For the main I had the fillet mignon which was cooked to perfection. So tender and full of flavour. Dessert was pecan crusted cheesecake which was a great ending to a perfect evening! read more

General Warren Inn - Malvern.  Mesmerizing.... I just couldn't stop staring at the place once we were seated and I kept getting up to take more pics of it! Despite inclement weather we were able to eat in a covered open air covered terrace here that was right next to the uncovered patio but with red umbrellas with string lights right in front of you.  Such a lovely sight!  They also have a springhouse table which seems like a perfect private small party table for a special occasion. It's like your own private cave! Next time I come here, will do my best to get this table!  Our group got the pink raspberry lemon drop,  inside out wellington burger with mac n cheese which our shrunken human ate, grilled branzino, gnocchi short rib pasta and for dessert the vegan truffle cake and a banana split chocolate mousse cake.  All delicious and the dessert plating was stunning!  The chocolate sauce tasted like hershey chocolate syrup and not like something a pastry chef would have made...it didn't ruin it but their own homemade chocolate sauce would have elevated this to the next level.  Service was friendly too!  Not sure why this place isn't mentioned more when asking for great outside eating spots but it will now be one of my top recs for outside seating! This would be a perfect romantic date spot or also a lovely brunch spot.  The website pics don't do this place justice.  The storms also gifted us with rainbows on our drive home! Sadly, our last visit wasn't as good as usual (server distracted and inattentive, even though she knew it was a special occasion, our cocktails are better, and the meatloaf not great, according to my husband, but who orders meatloaf at the GW?!) We like to stay at the General Warren Bed&Breakfast from time to time. Old Victorian style rooms with a fire place. The restaurant is nice with a decent menu. I kept it simple this time with a burger and fries. My lady had the steak frites in which she enjoyed. For an appetizer we had this Korean beef with slaw and it was delicious. If you are looking for a romantic getaway give the General Warren a try, the staff is wonderful. read more

The food was ok. For dinner, I ordered the elk chops with cheddar and bacon grits and carrots and for dessert, I had the hazelnut chocolate mousse. The elk was soft and the grits were good, however for the price, I was expecting some sort of "wow" factor that was lacking. The mousse was excellent though and the chocolate gelato it was served with was divine. Overall, I felt like every encounter with our server was forcibly stilted and really awkward. Though the interior and décor were beautiful and cozy, I did not feel comfortable with the atmosphere. As another reviewer noted, this is definitely for an older crowd. read more

I recently had a lovely dinner here with my boss and upper management. We started off at the bar and enjoyed some drinks and chit chat there. I mentioned that I really enjoyed the historical atmosphere of the Inne and one of my local co-workers who was familiar with the Inne gave me a brief history of the establishment; it dates to 1745 and the French & Indian War, it later became a loyalist stronghold and meeting place during the Revolutionary War and allegedly the Paoli Massacre by the British soldiers was plotted there. In keeping with the historic theme, they offer Yuengling Lager from the oldest operating brewing company in the United States (1829). After this enlightening history lesson, we were lead to our table in the well appointed dining room and served dinner. My food was delicious; I ordered the Snapper Turtle Soup and Crispy Glazed Porkbelly, both were hot, beautifully presented and delicious. Our wait staff was well trained and soft spoken, appearing out of nowhere when needed, and arriving with the dinners for the whole table simultaneously and effortlessly. Overall our night here was an enjoyable evening, filled with delicious food and fascinating conversations about the local area. I look forward to coming back! read more

We attempted to dine here on Thanksgiving. The meal did not go well. Our waitress forgot and screwed up our initial drink orders. For my first course I ordered the snapper soup. It was brought to the table with the requisite cruet of sherry. But the sherry was not the only thing in the cruet. There were flies! The waitress offered to get me more sherry. No manager came over, I saw our waitress talk to him and point over to our table but that was the extent of our interaction. It was about that time that I noticed the salt shaker. Salt was not the only thing in the shaker. There were ants! At this point I cancelled the rest of my meal. For reasons unknown, the rest of our party decided to continue with the meal. I ordered a vodka on the rocks, hoping that they would not include any critters with it. Several managers came into our dinning room and spoke with other guests. The shot a quick glance toward our table but never can over to us. After the entomology lessons, I really wondered what things looked like behind the closed doors of the kitchen... Typically we enjoy this spot very much but lately the food in the service has been just a little bit too spotty for our liking still we are devoted to it because it's such a wonderful historical spot. We'd like to see a little bit more of a variety on the menu that covers different types of foods versus just a very typical American. A suggestion would be to salads and then a choice of two soups and then two different types of appetizers and the main courses seems to be a good mix. The scones that we can take away are actually phenomenal as is their take away drinks. read more

Our party of 6 was there for a birthday celebration and everyone was thoroughly impressed. Loved the ambience with a real wood burning fireplace. Service was attentive and pleasant. My radish and garlic toast with beet hummus was excellent. The mushroom bisque and snapper soup were also big hits. My Harvest risotto was very tasty and the Wagyu meatloaf got rave reviews. We all left room for dessert even if we ended up asking for a 'doggie bag' for the entre. The caramel ganache torte was a perfect mixture of caramel and chocolate ganache that reminded me of a turtle candy. Those that ordered the fig and apple galette became members of the 'clean plate' club. This was the perfect place for a quiet and elegant celebration. read more

Dinner on a Thursday night with two business partners, no reservation but welcomed as though we did. As we walked in we could smell a word fire w was warming on a cold winter night. Entered into the bar area authentic and very old. Cold draft selection very friendly bartender. Into the dining room we were seated in the front porch which we thought may be cool but was actually quite comfortable. Starter their famous 'Snapper' soup with a bottle of sherry on the side. Delicious! Warm fresh bread brought to the table immediately. I had the 14 oz bone in pork chop with risotto and kale (photo) and two other diners the pepper steak. We all enjoyed our meals immensely. Server was very friendly, professional and attentive. I will certainly return, hopefully to spend the night some time as well. I recently stayed at the General Warren Inne for 3 nights and i couldn't be happier with my stay and the 2 dinners i had. My room was comfortable and charming, definitely has the Inne feel. I will stay there again. As for the food on the first night i had the Sea scallops over cauliflower puree and a warm brussel slaw, absolutely outstanding. it was so good i treated myself to the coconut creme brulee - perfection. On the second night i dined with 8 friends under the tent, everyone thought we would be cold but it was comfortable despite it being freezing outside. Several of us had the beef wellington, it was amazing, when i go back again that's what i will order. The filet was done to medium rare just as i ordered and the pastry was crispy, buttery and flaky. Yum! A few people took my recommendation and went for the scallops, they were as pleased as i was the night before. 5 stars. read more

I had their Mahi Mahi lunch entrée special as well and it was really good too, but a normal/typical size entrée. The prices were reasonable for this kind of restaurant. We started with a Classic Caesar for Two & Artisanal Cheese Board. I had the Grilled North Atlantic Salmon & wifey had a Grilled 6oz Filet Mignon & Tom had Grilled Trout. , Gin & Tonic and red wine. I can't remember the last time I rushed to write a review for a restaurant! We put together a 70th birthday party for a friend. We had 20 guests for the party and General Warren was fantastic! Tim helped us put together a great menu. Suggested that we use the downstairs bar for cocktails and the surprise gathering, and then use the North Room upstairs for dinner! He took care of every detail and made sure that our group felt welcome and at home. Our server, Brett, became part of the party - and enjoyed the slide shows and tributes of our guest of honor! Lauren, our bartender, enjoyed the party too, and was laughing along with our guests! The entire staff at General Warren made our group feel like we were having a party in our living room and they were there to help with anything we needed! They provided a TV so we could bring a laptop and show slides and a video tribute. We had Party City deliver the balloons. The tables were all set and the fireplace was glowing when we arrived! Downstairs was a terrific spot to welcome guests for cocktails! The drinks were terrific - (I'm not sure that when the staff heard there was a 70th birthday party they anticipated we'd stay to close down the place), and the dinner was terrific. We requested a birthday cake and boy, they did not disappoint! Gracious, elegant, fun, helpful, polite - all words to describe the wonderful staff at General Warren! I'm going to go with 2 1/2 stars, and that is for the food side. The ambience the history of the establishment is very impressive unlike the food. I'm give the restaurant 3 1/2 - 4 stars, service 3 stars. Now for the food review for mothers day 2017. Where do I start... Aps, caesar salad was less then fresh and pre-made in bulk, the wedge salad with the "drunken gorgzola cheese" and canned pears. Let's pre-plan a menu before you purchase ingredients for the menu. Now on to the main course... Kids had the lasagna which had potential just lacked the love that a lasagna should have. Now for the adults meals, salmon served well over cooked over something I have never seen before "sweet potatoe and quinoa" never in my life have I seen or heard of this. It looked like baby food then the other side was what should have been some sort of mushroom which was purple (I was thinking I might go back to my grateful dead days upon eating this) that was yet again from a can. We had one NY strip which was less than fresh served with 6 string beans over what was the highlight of the mashed potatoes ( which were broken fingerling potatoes ) so if you want smooth and silky think again. I had no problem with the mashed potatoes I liked them a lot and wanted more it was a shame that was the highlight of the meal. Now on to the beef tender loin WOW it was more like a beef tartar and yet very unimpressive served with what should have been fresh broccoli and was served with green giant or precooked broccoli. When you live in a farm rich environment it should be farm to table. I want to continue but I need a break from this review. This could be a GREAT Restaurant, I don't know who's hands are tied here but someone is responsible for this. I think the front of house and or ownership need an over haul and maybe let the chef order what he wants. Bring in Gordon Ramsey for a full over haul with his TV show kitchen nightmares. read more

Dined here twice on a work trip and while hearing of the history of a 200+yr old establishment perked my interest, the building had obviously undergone renovations along the years... Most of our group ordered the filet mignon, which either means nobody was feeling adventurous or the other items just didn't spark any interest. Nothing to write home about, fairly standard simple steak and veggies. I will say the rasberry sorbet with blueberries was delicious, and I heard the other pastries were all made in house and quite good. read more
