I just changed to having Amanda as my PCP after seeing her for a well woman visit after my daughter was born. She is that great! I felt like I learned more from her about my current random annoying small medical problems than I have ever learned from any doctor! Mel was my midwife for my daughter's home birth almost 1.5 years ago now. Birthing wasn't as bad as people make it osund. I understand why birthing moms may want epidurals, but in labor it was clear to me that there was no way anyone was getting me in a moving vehicle of any kind. I saw her, Jen and Cindi for prenatal care. The prenatal checkups were laid back, I felt well informed. They listened to me and would do what was necessary at visits while keeping the visits informal feeling, more of a dialogue of how pregnancy was going for me. As of maybe 2 months ago Midwife Seattle has split into two practices: Cindi and Amanda, and Mel and Jen. It came down to some insurance issue having to do with hospital births. I would absolutely recommend Midwife Seattle. When I started looking into midwifes, I found the great reviews for Midwife Seattle and decided to attend one of their info sessions. I felt from the beginning like they were very receptive to questions and placed no judgements. I have had bad experiences in the past with doctors being pushy with their views and thinking they are omniscient. I am a person who likes to do extensive research in order to make decisions and Cindie recognized that immediately. She was incredibly respectful and allowed me to make all of my own choices myself. She provided plenty of information to guide decisions but was never pushy. It was clear to me at my home birth that she is a master of judging the situation at hand and adapting. I also had a few appointments with Claudia who is super friendly. She is a wealth of knowledge and personal experience. She also attended my home birth and check in appointment. Her uplifting attitude and positivity is a welcome presence. I will most definitely call them again when we decide to go for another! As a Physical Therapist that specializes in Women's Health, I have had the pleasure of working with many amazing midwifery teams. I chose Midwife Seattle due to their proximity to my house, and the positive feedback I'd heard from patients who had used them in the past. The entire team was incredible! We appreciated that we never felt rushed during our sessions--the midwives always spent as much time as we needed educating and supporting us each visit. We planned for a home birth, but also felt confident in their ability to refer us out if any aspect of my pregnancy or labor warranted care that was outside a midwife's scope of practice. Thankfully, that was not necessary, and we were able to have a home birth as planned. The birth itself was an amazing experience. Elise was with us for around 10hrs, helping me feel safe, providing feedback regarding how labor was progressing, and gently encouraging me throughout the process. I am grateful for how seamlessly she worked her way into the dynamic between my husband and I--she was an important presence, while still allowing it to feel like a very intimate experience for us. Her birth assistant, Morgan, was also great--she offered words of encouragement and when my son decided to surprise us with a very quick (almost into the toilet) appearance, having an extra set of hands to assist was crucial! Elise and Morgan stayed with us for hours after the birth as well. They helped ensure I was comfortable and able to nurse, waited until family arrived to do our newborn screen, and cleaned up everything from the birth--they wouldn't even let my husband help! Cindie and Morgan returned to our house on day 2 to check on us--so amazing to get the care we needed without having to leave our home! We would recommend Midwife Seattle to anyone! read more

Cindie Brown (founder of this gem, ARNP, midwife) is an absolute gift to us pregnant women AND women in general in need of healthcare! She welcomed my first and second child into this world at our home births and has an outstanding heart for the Lord and for her patients. Midwife Seattle is a wonderful midwifery practice in Seattle and they come highly recommended by myself and many women and families I know who have had babies with them. Mel and Jenn aren't Cindie's "assistants", they are the excellent, knowledgeable out of hospital team that Cindie works with. Their presence in the practice enables the group to serve a unique purpose in Seattle: providing caring, compassionate and competent midwifery care to women BOTH in and out of the hospital. Mel and Jenn are very experienced and have worked in the US and overseas. They appropriately respond to risk factors but keep women in their care as long as would be responsible. They are cool-headed, kind, available, responsive and genuinely care about women and their birth experiences. As a group, these midwives provide highly individualized care, responding to each woman's issues in pregnancy with poise and flexibility. I would certainly never describe them as "scared". Go to their weekly meet and greet where you can see all of their faces in person, ask questions and make a decision for yourself. I think you will find Grace's comments to be erroneous. read more

Had a really great experience with Dr. Amanda Deardorff & the whole staff of Midwife Seattle. I recently went in for a 'Women's Exam'/Annual checkup, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Deardorff was really thorough & made me feel at ease by answering all my questions and providing me with great advice. They offer a wide variety of services here ranging from annual exams, birth control, midwifes, std screenings, vaccinations and even treatment of common health problems. I think I found my new primary care physician! Highly reccomend checking them out. read more

I used Cindie and Jenn for my first pregnancy, and delivery, and had such a wonderful experience. I felt so cared for, and empowered by these lovely women. The care they give is very thorough, thoughtful, and done with confidence (with skill, and experience to back it up!). I delivered at the Kirkland birthing center, and everything went very smoothly. Both the prenatal, and postpartum care were incredible! Jenn was separating from the practice to go her own way when I came in for my second pregnancy. Since Jenn delivered my son, and I was so pleased with that experience, I decided to follow her, and her accompanying midwives (Mel, and Alyssa) for my second pregnancy. I received great care then as well, and had a beautiful home biirth. Since Jenn is not a Nurse Practitioner, I sought care from Cindie after my delivery. I have post-partum insomnia, and anxiety, and Cindie prescribed me a medication that really helped me! I felt so thankful for her understanding, and expertise! I also saw another midwife at the practice for lactation issues, and found it very helpful! Now I am pregnant with my third child, and decided to have my prenatal, and postpartum care with Cindie, and her fellow midwife, which I haven't met yet. I had my first appointment this week, and I was so appreciative of how thorough Cindie was! She spent almost two hours with me, and was able to do an ultrasound that day in her office, so we could determine a more accurate due date. I just felt a review was long overdue! I don't really write a lot these, but I feel these woman are making a huge difference in people's lives. I hope more women, and families, can have positive birthing experiences, in a culture, that doesn't always view pregnancy and birth, in a natural, holistic way. read more

These midwives have delivered MANY babies and are very experienced; this, coupled with their excellent bedside manner & caring attitude toward their patients made them the perfect choice for my home birth. I don't have a single negative thing to say after receiving all of my pre and postnatal care with these fantastic women and having a wonderful homebirth experience with Jenn and Mel. I had an issue come up in my pregnancy and they recommended an extra ultrasound--a sound medical decision in my opinion--and continued my care after the results came back showing that midwifery care was still appropriate for me. I would hardly describe them as "scared"; they were [for me] the ideal care team. I trust their medical decisions implicitly. My only complaint is that I no longer see them on a regular basis! read more

I found Midwife Seattle in my extremely picky and intense research during my pregnancy. I had already a dream-like fantasy of how my first birth would be; Midwife guides, private out of hospital water birth and a magical fast, almost painless labor. While the labor itself became a different story, mostly because of my unrealistic fantasy of a natural labor, everything else was everything I could ask for! Cindie and Stephanie held my hand from the beginning to end which meant more than they know. Not only are these women completely medically reliable, but they LISTEN and are incredibly passionate. My labor wasn't easy... and in such an extreme event, I can remember them cheering me on, informing me of all steps and never left me worried. Cindie and her team deserve infinite stars. I was told I couldn't get pregnant and when I learned I was, I went the traditional hospital route. I quickly learned that wasn't for me and went on a hunt, calling and meeting with nearly every midwife in Seattle. It took me over a month and I finally landed on a phone call with their lovely receptionist and knew immediately their practice was different. This is a place of authenticity, rich wisdom, warmth and absolute complete care. Never once did Cjndie or her amazing side kick/student Angelica seem ungrounded, put off or on a high horse (I experienced this with other midwives in Seattle). It's truly amazing how much they care and how attentive they are. My home birth was absolutely incredible and there is no way it would have been so easy without their guidance. I have only had my 1st appointment, but it was amazing. We are seeing Mel and Jen as our team of midwives. Our initial visit was 2 HOURS long. How great is that?!?! Mel and Jen delivered my daughter at home and were AMAZING. I actually don't write reviews, but when I saw a one star review referring to them being easily scared, I had to pipe up. I had a severe hemorrhage after birth and they remained completely calm. I knew it was serious, but felt I was in totally competent hands. My delivery was 6 months prior to that "one star" review... I know that Mel and Jen had to put ALL of their training to full use that morning, but I remained at home and never did go to the hospital. I highly highly recommend them. I know the practice has changed, so find them wherever they have gone! They are a great team. read more

The midwives Jen and Mel really took a great care of me throughout my pregnancy. They were patient, kind, and helped me addressed a lot of my fears. They were also there with me the whole time during my 21+ hours of labor. They did everything they could to help me and at the end we had to transfer me to a hospital from the birthing center but they were on the ball and I trusted that they had both me and my baby's well being as their primary interest. They were very encouraging and loving throughout the whole process. LOVE THEM. If you want a midwife, no need to look anywhere else. read more

I love the care I received (and am still receiving) from Cindie and Amanda. They were both very attentive to worries I had for my second labor and offered advice/ resources to help me. My labor ended up being very fast and intense and they offered much compassionate reassurance which helped me through. I am a birth doula, and have read a fair amount about pregnancy and birth and I absolutely trust Mel and Jenn's judgement when it comes to me and my son's health. I have not delivered yet (due in two days... give or take) but i have been incredibly pleased with my experience so far with Jenn and Cindy. I plan to deliver at Group Health and feel like Cindy and Jenn's calm, honest and competent demeanor really shaped my perspective around my pregnancy to one of feeling confident, embracing it and not freaking out. I feel like they facilitated a very mellow pregnancy and I now look forward to continuing that same energy into my birth - whatever comes up. This is my first pregnancy and experience with a midwife/birth so I don't have anything else to compare it too but overall, I am really excited, grateful and happy that I went with the recommendation to go with Cindy from my primary care doc whom I trust greatly. I also really like the different options of home birth, hospital or birth center that Midwife Seattle offers, when I first went in, I was not sure which one was right for me and did not want to choose right away. It has been easy to schedule appointments and the person that does their billing has been very helpful. Cindie Brown is an excellent certified nurse midwife. I sought her out for my second pregnancy when I desired a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC); she came highly recommended by many in the birth community in Seattle. I believe she is not doing VBAC births anymore as she moved her practice out of the hospital. I myself am a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, so my standards are very high when it comes to Ob/Gyn care, and Cindie was excellent in every respect. She has an excellent bedside manner, has topnotch clinical skills & knowledge, and embodies the spirit of midwifery care. I highly recommend Cindie and her practice. read more

So I was sad to learn of the changes and additions to her practice. My mind was put at ease when I met and had my prenatal services with Jenn and Mel. I have had three sucessful and beautiful home births using the midwives at Midwife Seattle. I could go on and on about how wonderful both Cindie, Stephanie and her front desk staff are. Being a working mom, the appointment times fit my need to take a minimal amount of time off of work and I left each appointment feeling that they took their time seeing me and answered all of my questions, educated me thoroughly on the pregnancy/birthing process and felt empowered that "I could do this." My most recent birth was with Stephanie and she was beyond phenomenal! Not only were my husband and I completely comfortable in her care while at home, but she specifically catered the care to us individually and honored what our requests were. Stephanie has a very comforting presence and was able to guide me through the laboring process and encourage me during the challenging times. Being a medical professional, I appreciated her thorough answers to all of my questions and felt that she really listened to me.
