worst place to get used parts from, they don't check parts to see if they are good, if it's bad and you try to return it, they say you can, until it comes down to the deed, then they say it's not their part, they can't return it because it doesn't have the paint marker on it, I have been working on vehicles for 20 years and never had a paint marker stay on something that I was replacing. when you work on vehicles things get scraped off and wiped off by accident, a bunch of low life cheapskates that work here! read more

Ok so I am a local business owner. That said, I have replaced 2 used transmissions that were purchased from Genes this past week. Both Transmissions were no good. They warranty their used parts for 30 days but apparently do not check to see if the parts are any good before selling to the public. Not exactly sure how this is legal but with so much money and time wrapped up I will be contacting my attorney to find out. So if it's it's possible I'd pass on future business with Genes Auto Parts. read more

As a lifetime Traverse City resident Gene's has hands down been one the places with the worst attitudes & customer service in town. Ive hoped they'd get better over 25yrs but if anything they've gotten worse somehow! The last time I was in there I was treated so badly I had to constrain myself from punching the employee in the face & storming out. I just spoke with Perry about receiving a used Buick engine with a "bastard" # 5 rod bearing in it. He was nice enough to me. He blamed the #5 rod bearing failure after less then 5000 miles was probably due to the mechanic not changing the intake manifold gasket, as required. This "bastard" bearing was .035" wider than the standard replacement and was spun, spinning around the crankshaft and looked like it had gone through a war. A seasoned mechanic just looked at it today and said that it made him feel queezy to see such crap. Did Venture, Nothing Gained. P.S. It's obvious! I buy parts from salvage yards as part of my research job. I buy from yards all over the USA. I have been buying from Gene's for 12 years (176 parts and counting). They send my parts to me via UPS. The parts arrive quickly and are always correct. When I see Gene's pop up in my search result they are my first choice; I grab the phone. I recently had a situation with Gene's where I did not receive all the parts in my order but I did not discover the error for over a year. I called and they sent the missing parts with no charge and no argument whatsoever. We even had a laugh about it. Gene's is certainly one of the very best salvage yards in the country! read more

Ok so my day was an amazing one until i ventured to Genes Auto Parts. My husband ordered a part from them online but their system is set up so that you cant see the numbers that you are inputting. So when he was done it said submitted he called nope wrong exp. date.. OK we will do it again, by that time Genes was closed so he didn't know if it went through or not so he had me go in today...I walk in and i am greeted with a friendly hello by every man in the front and the woman named KIM, I went up to kim and she was very polite and helped me find my part. well come to find out it wont be ready in time because he ordered it today at noon? I replied it shoulda went through yesterday that horrible woman named TRACY? speaks to me like this HE( Pause) put( Pause) it ( pause) In (pause) To (pause) Late(pause) like I am hard of hearing or mentally slow. I of course started to open my mouth but instead i turned to Kim and said That lady had better stop talking down to me and said a few more things.
