I recently had work done at Redmond Auto. I initially chose them because they have free loaner cars (the struggle of having transportation while getting car repairs done is real!). I was completely satisfied with the work done. We figured out that the same parts were replaced a year earlier at another facility after an auto accident. I won't mention the name of that facility, but they also charged my insurance company for service they didn't do. Not to mention the suspension parts failure a year later could have ended up in a dangerous situation. John and his team had me back up and running. Fast forward 2 weeks later, I managed to get a screw stuck in my tire. Terrible time of year (Nov) to try to get a tire repair done. After calling several tire shops, who were booked out weeks, I attempted to call the service dept of the dealership where I purchased my car AND the tires. After having to call back twice and told that they couldn't get me in for a month or so (for a 10 min tire repair) I decided to give Redmonds a call. John said to bring it in right away and they would take a look at it. About 10 min after arriving I was patched up and back on the road. No charge. Moral of the story - honest work and good customer service go a long way! Redmond will get my business for any future repairs (or tire purchase!). The big fancy dealership who can't be bothered to accommodate a 10 min tire repair, not so much. They lost any future sales for a car, tires or service. Redmond Auto for the win! read more

BUYER BEWARE: Redmond Automotive is not transparent about when and for how much they will charge your credit card and that they do not offer refunds. Upon making an appointment over the phone with this auto-shop to install an electrified hitch on our 2015 SUV (for which this part is readily available) they asked for our credit card info in advance of bringing our vehicle in for service. We gave it to them, assuming that we would be consulted before any charges were applied to our card. We were wrong in that assumption. After talking with a car savvy friend we learned that the quote Redmond Automotive offered was entirely too high, "that's highway robbery!", our friend said, and so we called to cancel our appointment. Said appointment was over one week away from the time our cancelation. When we spoke with a representative re: our need to cancel this appointment, we were told that we would be reimbursed for all charges to our credit card. After four days passed and our card had not yet been refunded, we called again to check on the reimbursement. At that point we were told that they do not offer refunds and that the charges would stick. NOTE: Redmond Automotive charged our credit card for the FULL QUOTE for work that was NEVER done. The part had merely been ordered. NO work had been done, they didn't even have our car. Yet they charged us for the LABOR (never happened) and the part. In trying to come to terms over this egregious charge in person with the owner of Redmond Automotive , we were verbally insulted and our requests for a full refund were denied. We were left paying 3x what we know the part costs at Advanced Auto. 3 times! Gross. We ended up paying for this over-priced part, needless to say, we will never return to this business. Super friendly and informative place, I've gotten a few things fixed there. The prices seemed reasonable both times, but I'm no expert. They got my car in right away, which was nice. I have to take a star away for the fact that they just didn't call me about my car in a timely fashion, it even took longer than they told me it would. I had to call them twice for an update, not my favorite. If it's going to take two days, quote me on the high side, better than the other way around. Terrible service and very arrogant disrespecful manager. I was very clear about my cars problem and they fixed a part that did not solve the issue ($320) I called and the manager said to bring it back in and they would take care of it. Came in when he said the car was all good and he charged me an additional $80 to move my floor mat which he claimed was causing the hesitation. He also said that changing to o2 sensor originally was part of the problem and my check engine light is off now so the problems fixed. 2 days later the check engine light is back on and the problem Is just as bad. Manger is arrogant and does not stand behind his work. Please don't go here. read more

Disappointment. I was looking forward to finding a local place in town to take my 2015 Chevy Silverado when the occasional need presented itself. The team at Redmonds missed on the diagnostics of a thermostat issue considerably. I tried very hard to be patient with this business and give them the opportunity to solve the problem but in the end this only resulted in me spending much more money and heartache than was needed for this issue. Two parts that were not needed and a $1,000 bill later and my family and I were stuck out of town with a truck that would no longer run to get us home due to overheating issues. I could not even get the truck back to Traverse City to take it back to Redmonds to have them fix the original problem I had went there to have fixed a few weeks prior. This shop was dismissive to my explanations of the problem from the very beginning and I have now paid significantly because of it. I did not need the AC Condenser that they installed but when I approached them on that they became combative. As a young family that will have plenty of cars driving around this town well into the future, I will always be vocal about the poor experiences I have had at this place to all who ask. read more

Owning an older car is great (no monthly payment) and sucks at the same time. Upkeep and general maintenance is required and these guys make it easy and are fair. I've compared quotes over the years and John and his team come in the lowest every time. As a busy single mom, finances and convenience are key. Lowest prices, HONEST work and a loaner car to drive in the meantime are the reasons I go back again and again. Not to mention the candy jars, cookies and coffee. I'm forever thankful for Redmond. They did a great job repairing severe suspension damage to the front end of my vehicle. They took care of it very quickly. John Redmond was a little 'dry' on the phone, until I called to tell him I'd be picking up my vehicle. He told me he'd call with information twice during the process, but never did either time. we came up to traverse city for the wknd from bay city. my mom's subaru legacy oil light was going on and off during our drive up and she looked at the dipstick and determined it was low (despite getting an oil change at 3wks ago). we drove in without an appt and the lady at the counter verified the light and sent a gentleman out to verify the dipstick level. he topped her off with a quart (gratis!) and sent us home to see our regular mechanic. if we lived here we would definitely be customers. the lot was packed so I suspect word is out. thanks redmond! read more

By far the worst experience I have ever had with any business. Manager lied to me twice then got hostile when I questioned him on it. After three different days of having my vehicle in all day the problem persisted. He gave up and asked me to bring it in on a Saturday to uninstall his work- as if I would trust a hack job to get under my vehicle to undo his poor work. Amateur operation. Poor business ethic. Won't be going back....Went to Redmond for a tire repair. They told me they removed 2 nails and charged me for two patches. My tire began leaking again immediately and when I went back, they replaced the valve stem (no charge, thankfully). When it began losing air again right away, I took it to a different tire business. According to them, the tire had never been broken down and there were no patches as Redmond claimed they had done. The second business did find a piece of metal in my tire that somehow Redmond had overlooked after taking it in twice. Not impressed. read more

I came to Redmond's because of a bad experience at a dealership that tried to take advantage of me. My brother recommended this place and I am so glad I did. They gave me an auto to use while my car was being fixed. It just so happened that the part took a few days to get in so at least I had transportation. They fixed the problem and charged me $300.00 under what the dealership said it would cost to fix. I will bring my car to them from now on. read more

These guys are the best most honest repair shop in TC. Our Chrysler mini van was taken to BM (major dealer) because it kept stalling at the most unusual times and it happened consistently for about 18 months. We were give an estimate for $2150 from BM to replace the computer and the abs modual and some other things. We wanted a 2nd opinion, brought our van to John at Redmond and he diagnosed it as a totally different problem and a part that was faulty, the cost of which was only $90 + labor. WOW- what a difference in estimates - we thought perhaps we would still have the issue if they misdiagnosed it! From then on we never had an issue! It has been 2+ years of no stalling. We have brought our other vehicles here and company vehicles and have complete confidence in the Redmons! They are a class act! It's a family business with a passion for customer satisfaction and honesty. What's really cool too is they have loaner cars you can use while they diagnose your car. Installed the wrong part and damaged my vehicle while doing so. Manager denied that they did the damage and told me to "chill out" about installing the wrong part. Terrible customer service. If you don't care about your vehicle and want to be treated poorly this is the place. read more

I brought my car in for a head gasket repair, was told 2-3 weeks, 7 weeks later I got my car back. He tried charging me several hundred dollars more than I was quoted with no warning. To make matters worse we had an accident with the loaner vehicle. My insurance covered his vehicle, but dealing with John about my car in the meantime was painful. He acted childish and spoke to me with such rudeness. When my car was finally ready he tried telling me I couldn't have my car until I paid him the deductible. I finally picked up my car only to have the check engine light come on after a few minutes of driving it. I will never return because of how he treated me, the worst customer service! read more

I have taken my car to Redmond a few times and while spending any money on a car sucks, it's sometimes necessary and I think Redmond is fair. I work with MANY car guys (classic car insurance) and have them give me their opinions first. I then call 5-6 places for quotes and Redmond is the lowest every time, sometimes by hundreds of dollars. They also have free loaner cars so I can get around while they work. They are polite and super efficient. I've not yet been disappointed in any aspect of car repair here. I had a experience very similar to Joe's. They ordered the wrong part, customer service sucked, then they damaged my car radio and my interior lights ( the heat controls light when its dark) putting in the heater core. When I asked how they planned to fixed what they broke, they denied it and were dicks about it. To top it off, days later they only fixed the heat controls, which they replaced with dirty junk yard parts that were caked with mud and the radio / clock display is still broke.
