I scheduled a required 2-week check-up that I was told was going to cost $45. A few days prior to her appointment, my dog began constantly scratching and licking. My dog had started scratching her belly to the point where it was bleeding so I called to see if I could bring her in early. I was told I could bring her in that day. I had all of her records with me from the shelter, and handed them to the person who came out to get my dog from the car (no owners were allowed in with their pets due to C19). When I spoke with the vet she kept asking questions that I didn't know the answers to (hence the reason I brought the records) and was told someone was entering the data in their system. The vet ended up prescribing an ointment; antibiotic; steroid and I was talked into buying a worm prevention medicine as well since I live 20 minutes from their location and didn't want to drive back just for that in the spring. The visit cost $199.28, which was a lot more than I thought I'd be paying just for ointment and exam, but I trusted the vet to know what was needed for the dog to get better. She sold me 15 ml of ointment for $28.73. I found it through a website for $12.99. FOR 30 ml. They charged me TWICE as much for HALF the amount. I was also charged about 3x more for the exact same antibiotic (cefpodoxime 100 mg/ 32 pills for $68.70 or $2.15 for 10x the amount of pills my dog needed) which would've been $.79 per pill through the same website. The dosage for the antibiotic was also too high for my dog's weight and noticed a marked change in her behavior by the 3rd day: she had started drooling, would shake, and seemed extremely anxious where she'd been very calm previously. The vet didn't include and directions or info, other than what was printed in the bottle; 1 1/2 pill per day And I realized that the instructions could either be read to administer 1/2 a pill per day, or 1.5 per day (which is what I'd been given my dog). I called to confirm and spoke with (2) different people who said that it was supposed to be 1.5 ~ when I looked it up, that dosage was for a dog 15 pounds heavier than mine. They also forget to put her folder in the bag of meds they gave me. I was shell shocked from paying 3x for a vet visit what I thought it would cost and didn't notice until they called and I had to drive back to pick up my dog's records. Later that day I received a call from them to confirm my dog's appointment for two days later that I made initially. I explained that I wasn't going to be keeping that appointment since they'd been able to see my dog that day. The woman who I had been working with (from my call that morning; taking my dog into the clinic; entering my dog's info into the system/forgetting to return the info; bringing my dog + prescriptions back to the car; calling to let me know the documents were still there; bring the documents out to me when I drove back) told me she didn't realize it was the same dog. It was no surprise when I tried to order the ointment online and the clinic wouldn't work with the store to get the prescription filled. They clearly don't care about the pet, it's all about the money.

He would need to send the inquiry via online and get them to Adopt-a-Pet, but that never happened because he said the mom moved them the next day. I'm a bit upset because it's evident that the mom should be fixed, but it could be that no one in his neighborhood is aware of the practice. Even though this place wasn't able to help, but they were very helpful and sincere. I hope that the little family is safe from bad people, wildlife, cars, and the rigid weather. While I have 2 cat condos and 2 heated beds for the stray cats that I help feed (all fixed), I can't help but think about the others who aren't so lucky.

We couldn't be happier with Rocky, who was considered a special needs cat. He is shy but has really become attached to my wife and he is warming up to me too. Rocky has been with us a little over two months and has become a part of our family. He gets along very well with our Siamese female rescue Coco. Do not trust Livingston County Animal Shelter with any animal's life. They killed a sweet,…read moreadoptable dog who was nothing but gentle and loving. I made the huge mistake of bringing a stray dog here. After not being claimed and he became adoptable, I fostered him and provided photos, notes, and a foster report card recommending the right kind of home for him. None of it was shared or considered in his adoption. His adopters returned him after a week with false claims of "aggression." I immediately tried to contact the shelter and offered to adopt him if his life was at risk. My calls and emails were ignored. Nearly a week later, they told me he was "safe with a rescue," which was a lie--they euthanized him three days after they claimed he was safe. Even the shelter admitted they never saw aggression. They chose to believe lies and killed an innocent dog simply because someone wanted their money back. On top of this, most of the staff are rude and unhelpful (with the exception of one woman), and despite always having multiple people behind the counter, they rarely answer the phone or respond to emails. This shelter does not act in the best interest of the animals. A dog's life was cut short because of their negligence, dishonesty, and misplaced priorities. I will never trust this shelter again, and I pray no other animal suffers the same fate.

People work and getting to the facility during the time they say they are open weekdays from 11 am to 5 pm is an issue for the employed. They called late in the afternoon on Thursday 4/16 to ask their battery of questions to determine suitability. At that point I didn't know if I could get my family member there before near their closing time of 5 pm on Friday 4/17. They mentioned there was another interested party. I agreed that if someone came to take the cat before I could get there late Friday 4/17 they should process him. They said they couldn't hold the animal for me so I was trying to be cooperative. However, we were able to be there today April 17 before their posted opening time of 11 am only to discover they had already opened and processed the animal to someone else before the posted opening time. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Then they implied that I had miscommunicated my interest. If they can do that, please, beware of what they post on animal profiles to lure you in. Don't trust it is accurate and the animal is truly what they describe. If there was miscommunication, it was on their side of this interaction.

I'm not writing a bad review because I don't believe in the cause of providing good homes for…read moreanimals that need them. I'm writing it out of a great feeling of resentment because I believe that I was fed bold-faced lies by the staff in order to push me toward an adoption. The sign on the window said that the cat I was considering was a five year old male. On the Saturday before our adoption, we asked a staff member of the cat's medical history. We were told that the cat had been very timid and was losing some weight, and that it had a distended stomach possibly from worms. That wasn't anything we couldn't handle so we decided to adopt. We wanted a 5 year old male because we had a cat and the two would complement each other well. When we sat down to sign the papers, though, that's when the truth started to come out. At least partial truths. Apparently, the cat had no teeth. We asked why, and they had no answers. It also had a heart murmur. I know the former staff member INTENTIONALLY left this out, because the distended stomach was there with this information. She just straight up left it out! We still went through with the paperwork, and at the end, they informed us that the cat was actually 7 years old. All of these things collectively should have told me to cut and run, but in the end the cat needed a good home, so we followed through with the adoption. A few days later, we took the cat to a vet. The vet informed us that actually the cat was more like 10 years old.... oh, and it was also a girl! So we went from a 5 year old male, to a seven year old male, to a ten year old female. CAHS either has no idea what they're doing, or they are purposely handing out false information in order to get pets adopted, which I'm certain is illegal. I likely won't pursue legal action because I'm sure no one will care, and I obviously will love and care for the pet that I've adopted. But folks should be aware of what's going on here, and be prepared for some deceit. CAHS should face some accountability.
