This is a newly restored, historic grist mill and miller's house which was built in 1742. The property is on the national register of historic landmarks, which made it a perfect setting for the night's lecture on "Historic Hotels and Boarding Houses of Northern Baltimore County presented by local historian Rachel Mazurek." It was sponsored by the Preservation Alliance. Rachel walked us through the hotels and boarding houses mostly along the York Road corridor. She has done a lot of research on these properties and their owners. She was very interesting - telling stories about each property. This was a free event that also offered free cider, cheese and crackers, hummus, as well as pretzels to nibble on. The lecture and slide show lasted about an hour and a half and was held in the Loft on the third floor of the mill where there is also an art gallery. There are stairways but no elevators from the first floor to the third. We walked up from the outside to enter, but left by the stairs as it was raining and dark when we left. The first floor of the mill houses a fully stocked gift shop with something for everyone. The second floor is open space that is used for classes, ceramics studio and workshops and art gallery. It was so nice to see this space being used to its capacity by the community. We look forward to returning for more events.

I visited Manor Mill yesterday with my husband, and I couldn't be more of a fan. I'm going to do my best to define and share what I loved about it. Manor Mill is a restored pre-revolutionary grist mill that plays host to a variety of activities within its many spaces. They offer classes (art classes, woodworking classes, ceramics classes), live music performances, art gallery space, yoga classes, and more. We visited yesterday for a musical performance by a folk musician we saw perform years ago in Texas. The concert took place in the Loft - a space on the third floor - that couldn't be more appropriate for a folk music concert: tons of history, great light, views of the woods behind the building, and a small, intimate space. The concert was really special. After the concert, Manor Mill's proprietor spoke for a few minutes about what Manor Mill offers to its community, including sharing information about some of the classes and a theater production that were coming up in the next few days and weeks (the theater production is a first for Manor Mill and sounds so amazing). He shared a list of things we could take advantage of since we were already at Manor Mill, and we did all of them. First, we went for a short walk through the woods behind the mill - their new Fairy Trail - which was really charming and cute (child and adult artists have shared art pieces that have been placed along the trail). About a quarter mile in total, it's a fun way to take in some of the woods - definitely worth a little jaunt if you're out there. Then we went back into the mill building to buy a record and give a quick thanks to the musical artist whose concert we had visited for. Then, we wandered through the two floors of the building that serve as the art gallery (some lovely pieces) before spending some time in the shop on the ground level. I loved my first visit to Manor Mill, and I can't wait to go back. I'm definitely looking forward to taking a class. Their upcoming classes and workshops range from food photography to marzipan painting, from beginner woodworking to traditional Chinese medicine, falconry to macrame, from watercolor to beginner welding. They also offer tons of other events: songwriter's night, readings by authors, yoga, guided meditation, and more. It's such a fascinating place, that offers such a range of activities and experiences. Now that I've been, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on their calendar of activities. We're lucky to have Manor Mill in this beautiful part of Baltimore County, and I can't wait to take an advantage of everything they offer in the future. Check it out! It's special.

Recently finished Mike Harris' Intro to Improv 101 course (7 week course)- it was a blast. Had fun and learned a lot. As a student you get to go to all BIG's shows for free which is nice, good learning opportunity. They have various types of improv shows every Thurs-Sat nights, been to several and enjoyed them. Highly recommend taking a course or seeing a show. Am now in Michael Furr's standup comedy class which has been amazing so far. Aesthetics wise, it's no luxury theatre (they rely on donations and grants to stay operating, so this is understandable!) but it gets the job done and is homey. Convenient location near a few local bars. Parking Tip: If attending an evening show, get there early if you want to find easy street parking right out front (cheap, pay via kiosk or Parkmobile app). There's a parking garage across the street that's $5 if you tell them you're there for the theatre.

He was super attentive to his students, encouraged everyone to set their own boundaries and promoted open communication through games and improv. I'm an introvert and this was my first time ever doing something like this. I'm happy I didn't back out at the last minute (like I normally would).

Charm City Trivia are the #1 most professional, entertaining, friendly, competitive, and respected trivia team in the area. While they're more focused toward the Baltimore area (duh) they do reach down into PG and Howard counties (see the map I included). I've been going to their location at Maple Lawn (Looney's) for about a month or so now and I can tell you that they're amazing. The questions range from the pretty easy ("What movie featured a car with the license plate, "OUTATIME"?) to the pretty difficult ("Name the three capitals of South Africa."). The questions show up on screens throughout the facility and the announcer is very easily heard without being obnoxious. [An added bonus is that the food at Looney's is pretty darn good!] The format is: 6 rounds of questions 3 questions per round 5 (I think) toss up questions (these are numerical questions where the closest to the answer wins) 1 final question (the only one where you can lose points) Each round has three different amounts you can assign to an answer (if you're positive of an answer you assign it the highest number). If you're wrong, you don't lose those points...except for the final question which you can wager up to 40 points. Big swings in team position can happen in the final question. I cannot encourage you strongly enough to try out a location that is hosting Charm City Trivia. Check their website and see the zillions of times and places that they're running a game. Trust me, you'll have a blast even if you come in last place like my team did last night.

Drove up from Bethesda with a group of friends and family to rent tubes here like we've done every…read moreyear for 5 years. We jump in the car for the 1.5 hr drive, pull up at 1:55p, and walk up to see a sign on the door that says CLOSED. Called the # I had and same guy picks up saying he is already halfway home and that credit card machine was turned off, now it's only cash, and then asks me what it be worth to him if he came back. I told him I could pay via Cash App or check, or hit an ATM. He said no ATM nearby and that they don't do cash apps or check...and then told me he was "old school". I told him that if he was "old school" he would have stayed until 2p like he had told me on the phone, and I hung up to tell my group we needed to find something else to do. No more than 5 minutes later this guy appears out of nowhere running up to me aggressively while screaming obscenities in front of families with young children coming out of the bike shop, "are you the m-fer I just talked to on the phone!?!! Are you the one who said I broke my word!?!" Yeah, I told him, that was me. He then stuck out his chest and walked around me like he wanted to fight me right there in the parking lot. I tried to cool the situation down by asking if we could do business, and he screams in my face "I'm charging you 4x the cost, it's now $120 per tube!!!" I reached into my ice chest to grab a beer to think about it, and the guy pulls out his phone and starts recording my car, license plate, then calls the cops saying I was drinking in a public park (even though I didn't open the beer). He finally walked off, my guess is that he realized I wasn't going to fight him. If it wasn't for my cool temperament this easily could have got physical. Anyway, we drove 10 minutes away to Dicks Sporting and bought great river tubes and saved $80. I've never experienced anything like this, and will never give this business another dime. I suggest everyone avoid them. The river on the other hand is fantastic, so we will be back to tube again....and with our own tubes!
