I completed my IV certification through this school, and unfortunately my experience has been very frustrating and disorganized from start to finish. During the course, there were multiple last-minute changes, including in-person skills days being rescheduled the night before, which made it difficult to plan and take the program seriously. After completing the program, I submitted my LVN license on April 27 and requested that my certification be sent and posted to the Department of Consumer Affairs (Breeze) as required for employment. I received no response. I followed up again the next day and still received no reply. Because of this delay, I have already been denied multiple job opportunities since employers require the certification to be visible on Breeze. Only after multiple follow-ups did I finally receive my certificate, but it still has not been posted on the DCA website, which continues to impact my ability to secure a job. The lack of communication and delayed processing is unacceptable, especially when students are relying on timely certification for employment. This experience has cost me real job opportunities. I would strongly advise future students to consider other programs that are more organized and responsive. Also, I have an email stating that this was a three day course, I asked for the days off, and I already referred many people and paid, during the first day of class I was told this was a 4 day course and had to call out of work. I was also charged two times for this course and asked for a refund and received no reply, I had to open up a dispute with my bank. I just completed my Phlebotomy Technician program today! Julie, one of the most amazing instructors I've ever had, is incredibly patient, kind, understanding, extremely knowledgable in her respective field in healthcare, phenomenal at breaking down concepts quickly, and creates a stress-free environment within a very accelerated pathway to certification. Julie also makes class fun with her natural humor. The most encouraging/nerve-calming trait about her teaching style, is that every class Julie told us how proud of us she was. She was genuine about it where a lot of my classmates told me they felt it. Positive feedback really kicks in. One other thing my classmates agreed with me upon is that we were actually so excited to come to class everyday. Leslie, the owner, director, coordinator, and backbone of Genesis Medical College, responds to emails/phone calls/voicemails quickly so you aren't left waiting and wondering for unreasonable amounts of time. The practice arms, skin pads, and supplies were of high quality. My meaningful experience here at Genesis will forever be a part of my journey, when I look back at my life in many years. I think the course is okay. If you're looking for IV therapy ONLY, I'd look else where. If you're looking for IV therapy WITH blood withdrawals then sign yourself up with this college! I will start by saying that the lectures and labs are informative and the instructors know what they're talking about. Mo, one of the instructors, is a phenomenal instructor and I can tell how caring she is towards her profession, and her students. She lectured on blood withdrawals on Friday, and although I didn't need it (I'm a working phleb.) her lecture was captivating and not at all dry as I know it can be. The course overall wasn't for me, and I'll explain why: I signed up for only the IV therapy course under the impression that it was going to be three days of strictly IV therapy (how to stick and advance, how to use a drip monitor, learn different tubings and what for, how to troubleshoot pumps, etc.) with a mix of online lecture and kinesthetic learning, but it was mainly blood withdrawal with light information on IV therapy. I was assigned to Friday all day online lecture and Sunday half lab, half lecture. Friday was all blood withdrawal which I didn't sign up for, nor needed because I have my CPT 1. It was a nice review, but I'm already a working phlebotomist, so it was a lost work day. Sunday (today), the first and last half of the lab is blood withdrawal and the middle section is IV therapy but not much time was spent on it (maybe 1 hour max). It was learning how to preform an IV with an angiocath, but nothing more than sticking the cath into play-doh and one live stick without advancing (which is the law so I understand). The second online lecture is pretty informative on IV therapy which I'm thankful for, but not as much as I'd hoped. So overall, I don't think it's worth the tuition cost for 3-4 hours of IV therapy lecture, about 1 hour of lab sticking a cath into play-doh and one live stick. HOWEVERR, if you're looking to do IV therapy WITH blood withdrawals, I say sign yourself up! read more

Awesome owners, staff and instructors! Signing up for a 12 hr class (not including lunch and breaks) is torture right? Well I wanted to get my IV Certification & Blood Withdrawal class done as soon as possible and with all the positive reviews on Yelp, Genesis seemed like a good place. Most other places that I looked at offered classes 1 once a week over the course of a month but who has time for that. So I sacrificed 3 days to take their class, and I'm glad I did, definitely worth it guys. First instructor was Sherri, who is also one of the owners of GMEC, loved her! Such a pleasant person, wish all nurses were just like her. She knows how to keep you interested in class and can tell if the students are starting to get restless. Her cure for that, get up and stretch! She was our instructor all day the first day and for the first half of the last day. Thank you Sherri for being so great! Next 2 instructors Lindsay(sey) Saturday morning taught us about Electrolytes & Blood Trasnfusions /Kathleen Saturday afternoon taught us about Blood Withdrawals both were also great instructors. I didn't get to know them as well but you can tell that they too love to teach and share their knowledge of IV's and blood withdrawals with other nurses. I think it's great that they have different instructors, helps keep the student interested right? I took the ACLS course from Sherri. Wow. This class is definitely worth it! Not only was the class good, but the entire process was easy. Scheduling: I had to call and reschedule a few times and I had questions and every time I received prompt, courteous and professional service. The staff is friendly, accommodating and hospitable. Food: There's free coffee and tea and a couple of vending machines (drinks, junk food and some granola bars for people who care) on site if you can't grab food before the class. It's located right across from a couple of shopping centers, and we got a 35 minute break for lunch, which is enough time to walk over and buy something if you want. Sherri doesn't mind if you eat in the class, so you really just need time to run over and buy. The class: I would recommend going through the book beforehand of course (you should be taking the pre-test anyway, but don't sweat it if you get less than the recommended 80/85%). Bring paper and something to write with, in addition to the book. Being familiar with the meds and with reading strips is needed, but she explains the ECG and has a great chart that shows you what the electrical readings mean in terms of what the heart is doing. GO THROUGH the ALGORITHMS before class. She takes you through it, but depending on how you learn, it's likely a bad idea to expect to learn it all for the first time in class and then take the test right after. Sherri is entertaining without being over the top--some instructors try too hard to be funny and end up just barely getting the material across. Sherri does not do that. The day actually flew by and I learned really well! Take notes--she gives you helpful tips and reviews important material. We did mock codes and it was really just fun! She doesn't just try to get you through for the sake of getting ACLS cert. She values quality care and quality work and it comes across. Side note: They have an ECG class that's separate if you are unsure about reading strips. Also, Sherri "will not sell you a class you don't need" so talk to her about her other courses if you feel the need. You don't need to worry at all about the test or the megacodes. You get enough review and practice and the class size is fairly small so ASK if you don't understand or feel unsure. Sherri makes you feel comfortable and is very open to answering questions. Also, she likes when students interact, which will help you out too so go for it. I went into the class nervous because..well it's ACLS. Came out feeling much more confident and excited about codes (not that I want people to code, but healthcare professionals you know what I mean) Wow. If I have any other class to take--or when it's time to do CE for my license renewal, I will definitely go to GMEC!! I've rarely been so enthusiastic about a business. IF there is something you find that they can improve on, GMEC will take that and work with it to actually become better. Definitely worth your money. read more

I have taken ACLS re-cert classes in 3 different states and this one was BY FAR the best. Sherri is just awesome. I actually received the call that my grandmother passed away during class, and Sherri took me outside, hugged me until I was ok and said, "Just call when you get back, we'll fit you in another class no problem." I realize this is not a typical experience, but I think it speaks volumes about her. And when I did reschedule, it was definitely not a problem and I did not have to pay extra. I took ACLS here and it was amazing! Sherri broke down the material so that it was easy to understand. She's also pretty funny which helps you get through 10 hrs of learning. She's also very encouraging and non-threatening. I wish I had her for actual nursing school. The facility is nice. Even the chairs are nice (haha...). No parking issues. Shopping centers across the street in case you want to go grab food on the lunch break. They also allow you to come back to the class you took at no cost to refresh your skills. I think that's pretty cool. The only down side is that it is more expensive than other places that I checked out. I did get a 10% discount because I went with a group of 3+. If you have a group, email them ahead of time and they'll send you a discount code. But overall, really great. They really value quality learning. read more

Was looking for a place to get my CPR renewed and relied on Yelp to help choose a place. Yelp comes through again! Class today was two hours. Instructor was Joseph. He was very good. Having taken CPR class several times before I already knew the basics. I felt Joseph presented the information very well. I wasn't bored and I felt like I learned some useful things I hadn't ever learned in a CPR class before. At the same time the information was concise and I didn't feel like any time was wasted. I took the IV Therapy/Blood Withdrawal course. Good luck finding a better place than this. Every single one of my questions was answered-and no one EVER has more questions than ME. If YOU want an environment in which it is okay for you to be unsure of yourself or hesitant, an environment that will let you take things at YOUR speed, if your English is not as good as a Native speaker of English, if you want a place where it's safe to be new and learning, Genesis is where you want to go for sure. If you spend your money here you will not be disappointed. Even the TESTING was a good experience. The TESTING! When you get tested you don't need to be anxious or nervous or worried. The testing is fundamental. You DO test on each other, you poke your partner 3x, once on the hand and once at each elbow. Make sure your partner has easy to see veins-partner up with a skinny person! We practiced in a variety of ways. By ourselves on bananas, simulation with a partner next to us, simulation with a partner behind us, watching other people, having the Instructor walk up and down the rows demonstrating, watching, refining, correcting, stopping and pausing, proper angles and movement, etc. The practice was thorough. You get to have the instructor watch you right there at your table, every move you make, when you are good enough, and they'll help you refine your movements. I took this course very seriously. One, it's blood drawing and IV starting, two, it's new territory-the first time learning these things you must learn how to perform the task correctly. The details are very, very important. It gets so nit-picky that you have to hold your fingers in a specific way, at a specific rotation, in specific places, in specific relation to your other fingers, and at a specific angle. THIS school and classroom setting allows the student to hone and refine their technique-this is exactly what you want. I gave them a 5 star rating but the manual has font & formatting issues that need to be addressed-which they are doing. ie: Some font was size 14, some font size was 26, a few spelling errors, more punctuation errors, etc. Once the manual better I can't imagine what could be done to make this a better establishment. More courses? Given the amount of attention the Instructors give to the students and the one on one focused time, this course is under-priced. We should be paying more for this course-the focused attention and i-dotting and t-crossing really is that. thorough. For lunch there's a grocery store across the street. There's a deli in there and a Starbucks in there. Directions: Exit the 57 freeway at Imperial Highway. Go east to Kramer. They are in the big white building on the southeast corner. Important! There's s good sports bar up the street 1 block. $2/beers every night! 'Shady Nook'. It's north up Kraemer at E. Birch. Northwest corner. Your husband can watch football/sports in there all day while you're in class sticking a banana with a needle. They have free food on Sundays during football season, so time your class for football season! It's a nice, happy crowd in there. Your husband won't be disappointed-good seating for the tvs. Drag him along with you and then have him pick you up on Sunday so you can stick him for the test at the end of class. Plus, if you're traveling from out of town and don't want to pay the outrageous prices for a hotel, go to the sports bar after class and then do some 'urban camping'-sleep in the back seat of your car in your sleeping bag in the parking lot. Then go to class in the morning. Sign up for their newsletters. Discounts! Spend your 'Black Friday' money here! Tell your friends about this place. That way they can keep their prices down cuz they won't have to spend $ on advertising. I'm going to this place for every single cert I need. read more

She is a really great teacher, I wish she could have been one of my nursing school instructors! I drive about 1 1/2 hours to get there. They really are the best and I highly recommend taking any classes you need here. I just completed the IV certification course where RN's and LVN's are together in one class. The class is presented in a way that you build from what you DO know and your experience in the clinical setting. It is structured well and the course content is superior. The student manual that we were given is extremely thorough and user-friendly. Out of the three instructors we had, Lindsay and Devora were really excellent- they both had extensive, up to date clinical knowledge and presented it in an interesting, fun way. This is by far the best continuing education center I have ever been to. In addition the staff are all polite and informed, which makes a really big difference to one's experience. I came here to take my IV certification, the facility is located in an office building off of Imperial in brea. The hours of my class were 7am-7:30pm Friday -Sunday, so it's defiantly a long day. (The BVNPT requires you be in class for 36hrs not including breaks) they give you several breaks throughout the day so your not just sitting there all day, and they allow you to snack an have drinks in class. I have to say, this was one of the most informative learning experience I have ever had. I really like the teaching style of Sherri Birdsall the RN in charge, she is so funny and is very engaging when she teaches, that you cant help but learn. The class is very hand on, you get to practice doing everything from priming a line, using different equipment to find your proxies veins, learning how to maintain a central line and of course, actually sticking your proxies and getting blood return! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who needs IV cert. !! read more

I have taken their IV therapy course, EKG arrhythmia interpretation & pharmacology, (BLS, ACLS twice). My first class I was living in Yorba Linda, but due to job change, moved to North Hollywood and still made the drive to Genesis in Brea because of the high quality of instructional education, and most importantly, the instructor Sheri. Sheri is thorough, invites questions, loves participation, caring, and truly loves what she does. Everything about it was great because they kept up the humor during those long hours and really taught us, not just read from a PowerPoint or something. What an amazing facility to strengthen your skills at! I took my ACLS course here with Sherri and it was a blast! Things that I "kind of learned" in nursing school were made so clear to me today. It was an easy process, I was given a discount for coming in a group (+3) which I was able to use while purchasing the class online. Location was easy to find, plenty of parking, and instructors were absolutely AMAZING! The book was used a lot during class as reference but you can share a book between two people. Make sure you do the pretest before class and print out results; they do collect it at the beginning. Megacode was not intimidating but a great learning experience!
