I recently graduated March 6, 2020. I just took my NCLEX April 1, 2020 and passed! I figured I would write a little something about my experiences in clinical, theory, and with the instructors for the Nursing Program. Term 1 (Theory) : I came into term 1 with some transfer credits so I only took Anatomy & Physiology and Nutrition. At the time, I had Ms. Kelley as my instructor. I honestly loved her and I am so sad to say she does not work at ACC anymore. This term was the hardest term for me. Ms. Kelley's style of teaching was not everyone's cup of tea. She did not spoon feed you answers, she expected you to read the chapter and come to class having reviewed the materials and having questions. At the time I felt so overwhelmed, but once I finished my term with her I was so thankful for how she pushed us from the start. She really prepared me for what was to come with term 2. If you were able to meet her and be taught by her you would be in ah of how knowledgeable she was and you guys will find out that all the instructors you'll encounter here are the same. Term 2 (Theory): Going into term 2, I was so nervous but the instructor I had was a literal angel. Ms. May Lee, she made me believe in good teachers. She was organized, punctual, knowledgeable, professional, she has integrity, and she had this ability to explain concepts and system disorders so you are able to understand it. She's adaptive to everyone's learning style. I loved how she would draw on the board to help us understand or find videos that correlated to the disorder or procedure we were learning. Just her lecture slides alone, you can tell she didn't just use the power point the book company made. She makes every lecture slide herself and customizes it so it's visually appealing and informative to the material we need to know. She was an amazing instructor. You will learn so much in her class when you get her. Everything she teaches and how she formats exams are going to prepare you for term 3 & 4. Term 2 (Clinical): If you are lucky you'll get Ms. May Lee as a clinical instructor too. Like theory she was also a great clinical instructor. She is so patient with us, especially during medication pass, and procedures like Foley catheters. She really understands that passing medication and putting in a Foley for the first time is nerve racking, her ability to stay calm and reassure us during those times were greatly appreciated. Term 3 & 4 (Theory): This is where I started to get really buckle down. I had Mr. Rommel Sencio, this man is the back bone to ACC. You will hear a lot about Mr. Rommel; that he's hard or that he's "mean", but the only thing that matters and that you need to know is that he cares immensely about all his students success. I have never had a teacher at his stature. If you think you will get by in his class by not studying and cramming THINK AGAIN! Ms. May Lee's class was challenging, but this is a new level, we fighting Bowser now ya'll. But in all seriousness, once you get to Rommel's class you will understand. His #1 goal for everyone is success. He doesn't just teach you the material based off the syllabus, he teaches concepts, preaches it even; he wants to understand why you are struggling in class if you are failing and he wants to find solutions to help you better understand the material. He helps students find their voice and encourages everyone to be confident. His positivity and encouragement throughout this program made such an impact in my life. Term 3 (Clinicals): For term 3 I had Ms. Nahid at Kindred Hospital Santa Ana. You will hear a lot about Ms. Nahid through your peers and the typical thing you'll hear is that she's hard and strict. To me I rather have an instructor that is strict or harder because at the end of the day I'm not paying $40k to be taught nothing. Ms. Nahid is so knowledgeable and she really does advocate for her students to see or do procedures. Even though she is a clinical instructor she would review and give us study guides to help us for theory, it helped immensely. I really loved being in her clinical. She may be hard and strict but she prepares you to be an exceptional nurse. Once you finish and pass NCLEX, you'll talk to Ms. Monique. She is such a kind, warm person, even just talking on the phone with her makes you feel comfortable and at ease. She has been so helpful and professional during this time while we work on my resume and look for jobs. Overall my experience at ACC has been one of the most cherished times in my life. I've never experienced teachers and staff members in a school that care so much about the students and their success. I want to thank all the staff, especially Ms. May Lee, Mr. Rommel, Ms. Nahid, Mr. Tony, and Mr. Machitar for pushing me and encouraging me every step of the way. The career department of this school is full of nothing but snakes. I finished the respiratory program a while back. One of the new graduates was recently hired at my place. About a week later, my boss got a call from the school trying to verify that she is an actual employee here. Safe to say that my boss and co-worker were a bit irritated that ACC went behind his back to do so. Christina never did anything to help him find a job, yet she's trying to profit from him. Apparently, this kind of underhanded behavior comes with this work. Not sure if this is something that is encouraged or taught. Like my co-worker, I was just willing to find a job and just forget about everything. But after this incident at my work, I realized that I have a duty as an alumni of ACC to inform future students about a waste of resource and tuition. Namely my experience with the career department and my career counselor or "specialist". Also, I felt that I held my thoughts long enough. During my time, Josh Cosa was in the career department. Needless to say, he did a lackluster job. I am aware there is now an Eli Cosa and this review nothing to do with him or the respiratory program. Mr. Cosa counseling is just too generalized. He just loves to hear himself talk. I mean, this guy is sooooo full of crap. "I went into respiratory because I see people as human beings and not as numbers..." bull crap. Yet he works in a school where he hides in his corner office. His job is to call our work to set up a false statistic/promise that ACC helps students find jobs. His job is to LITERALLY use us as numbers. I can use that lie to work anywhere. For example: as a Walmart cashier, I see the people that use their credit cards and wallets to buy food as human beings trying to feed themselves. Therefore, a cashier does not see people as numbers. That bs alone would put me on a watch list. Now I don't have an ideological, over-dramatization of the medical field, the work that we do is important and it allows patients and their families a chance at another day. For me I am just trying to pay the rent and raise a couple of kids, with one about to go to college. I won't complain if my bills get paid and I put food in their stomachs. One of my classmates ended up working at CHOC right after he got his license. He was always kind and hardworking, and of course, he never went to Mr. Cosa for help. He will NEVER credit ACC for how he got there. So, whether you are aiming high or low you can be sure that part of your tuition is going towards nothing. Keep in mind that these guys are paid over minimum wage. He said that a good way to get a job was to write a positive review on Yelp about the respiratory program. That NEVER made any sense to me. Very suspicious the reviews about this program never specify what Mr. Cosa did well or mentioned other instructors. Its almost as if he told students what to say. Very little/no help with job placement and interviews. At this point alarms or light bulbs should be going off in your head. Even the other respiratory instructors forgot about him. He just showed up one day. My coworker told me he now works in sales for another company. Pretty far cry from "I see people as human beings and not as numbers." I cannot make this stuff up. ACC helps you get a career alight, assuming you are a staff with a secret agenda. Reflecting on my experience with Mr. Cosa, I grew to see people as human beings and not as numbers. Because I was treated as one. I have never seen such a distance and lazy approach to doing a job. If you were showed how to use Indeed or took up class time to make a LinkedIn account, you have already wasted a huge amount of your time and tuition money. read more

To whomever it may concern, I am writing this formal letter of recommendation for American Career College due to the outstanding educational experience and far above average job placement program by the Career Services Department. I would like to share my thoughts and highly recommend recognition to the entire Respiratory Department, Director Ms. Reilly, Mr. Walls, Ms. Russell, Mr. Cosa, and all other staff. Special thanks to the career services department Rolando and Jimmy for being so passionate and skilled in what they do. These guys not only help you build connections but they also build your interview skills, fix your resume, and market you as if they are marketing their own brother. From the beginning through the end of the program, all classes I was enrolled in shown to be an excellent learning environment. I had attended college before but now that I have experience an education level such as this, it will be very hard for me to go back to another college because the level of commitment and experience the teachers and staff possess at this school are far above average. I would like the efforts of Joshua Cosa, Respiratory Instructor to also be recognized because out of every teacher/professor I have had in my entire life, he proved to be the best. Not only does his excellent knowledge of the field transmit to the class, but also the way he presents the material is very clear to understand. American Career College truly is there to help you whether you need emotional support, extra time for tutoring, or advice regarding anything at all, the entire staff is there to assist you. In a regular college that I have experienced, the professor hardly learns the student's names, here you become a family and the instructors will tailor lectures and lesson plans based on the class and what they are struggling with. I received my CRT within a week of graduating and was well prepared for the RRT examination which I took both parts of the test 2 days after the CRT and passed with no struggle. The school really prepared me for all aspects of the board examinations. Within 2 months thanks to the help of Rolando and Jimmy and their amazing reputation in the health care field, they highly recommended me to my current employer and I was placed in a full time position. In the program we did not only learn one aspect of respiratory. Due to the pulmonary function class we took and thanks to the teaching of Wayne Walls, I was able to find a job as a PFT Tech also. This is a tough field, and unfortunately there have been disgruntled students who bring the name of this institution down with bad reviews. I am here to prove that this is not the case. There are some steps you must take on your own as we are all adults, if you follow what advice these staff give you, you will be successful. After 3 months of graduating I have found one full time position, a part time position doing PFT's, and through meeting people at my clinical sites and marketing myself I also found another per diem position at sub acute hospital. So thank you again to American Career College and all the hard work they have done for me and my classmates. You truly changed lives and I will definitely recommend ACC to any family/friend I have. read more

I am not happy with the respiratory program here. Josh Cosa, Eli Cosa, and Cristian Toth are horrible examples of RTs and are probably the reason why RTs everywhere have to get multiple jobs, fewer benefits and hours. Sometime after graduating, Mr Toth, "left" ACC because he and Eli accomplish their "goal." Some rhetorical questions: why did Toth not have a job lined up after leaving, especially since he's expecting first kid? How were two of the dumbest female students the first ones to get the same job at the same place at the same time after graduating? Josh Cosa the one I'm most terrified of. He went from teaching in a classroom to working in the career department. For his job, he just makes you write your resume and apply online. When pressed for help finding a job, he makes you feel you are not trying hard enough, it's your fault, you're a bad person or he's not comfortable helping you. When I did find a job, he suddenly reappears to verify my employment. I realize he was setting up a false promise that ACC helps students. I was just a number to him. Isn't it suspicious the previous director was "let go" and replaced with his brother Eli? All of a sudden, there was a "secret" for improving pass rates. The program that graduated students who got into big hospitals was apparently going to be shut down according to Eli. No one who just threw out about $55k is going to cross Josh or his brother and risk career suicide. A student with a couple of months of experience was able to get into LB Memorial where Josh works as HR because she had "great teamwork and a good attitude." It's understandable that your wife will be less attractive after having four kids and you're surrounded by younger female students. Whatever you do, don't accept a $19/hr RT job in Missouri. Remember you have loans and bills to pay. Josh would tell me that writing a nice review about ACC would help us land a job. Of course, the review has to mention Josh. We all know that Mrs. Russell and Mr. Crail did a lot of the heavy lifting that kept the respiratory program afloat. Now they are gone. Going to ACC is like paying a premium for average food at a restaurant that you MIGHT get. Afterwards we play the equavalent of the blame game. I feel that I and many others got the equivalent of a middle finger. I actually hope more people still come here and think I just made all of this up. Ms. Flick stands out as an exemplary educator, exhibiting an exceptional degree of expertise developed over 15 years in the nursing profession and 10 years as a teacher. The LVN Program is a BIG GIANT SCAM. Reputation speaks for itself, ask around the community. Report all experiences to better business bureau. The credits aren't transferable and you'll get dropped for missing two- three days of school even when you make up the hours. They don't disclose other information because they want you in for your MONEY, there are no refunds. Instructors are passed around and quit when they want to, there are no set schedules and things always change last minute. The students don't even have a set classroom to stay in. Unreliable at its finest. You pay for your certificate. They don't have printers or even a library. The ones displayed are just for DISPLAY. They have to look good somehow. There are reputable instructors and there are those who need to stay retired because they make the reputable as whole, look incompetent. You can get an online education elsewhere that can better produces well informed and educated students. ACC is placed on 80th position out of 100 school, for rated nursing schools in CA. Update* It's 2021 and it's no longer 2011. The school needs to stop making the same excuses, with the amount of money the school has and is accruing throughout time, wouldn't it be nice to hear a better excuse, better yet an ACTUAL running stable program. The business owners of ACC doesn't care when you make them money. This is what we call elitist behavior. And yes they allow cheating and giving you the answers before a quiz and an exam because if they didn't they wouldn't have the students passing, failed students mean no money. It's a scam and there isn't fair regulation. Private school = private info to scam students. Sorry but not sorry, we need real nurses now more than ever in this world: a different perspective is a reality and it means it did happen. They exploit but more so for the vulnerable and gullible. Everyone and the Board of Nursing need to keep an eye on this school. Also, look up the nursing Everest College and look at why it was closed down. Meaning I can't move up (like I was told when I enrolled) wth my "degree" and I have to start all over again... ALL OVER! But now, I can't even get FA because ACC TOOK ALL OF IT! I tried calling the campus president, no call back, admissions manager or VP (that's what's she titled herself when I called) said she will call me back.... still waiting for her call. Don't waste your time at any of these schools! GO TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR CAL STATE OR UC!!! These schools just take your money and you can't move up with their degrees. AND ITS WAAYYYY OVERPRICED!!! Unfortunately there isn't a no star option so 1 is the lowest I can give. My girlfriend had wrote a review about our experience with the Admissions Director at American Career College, and because she wrote it they considered it a 2nd party even though she was there with me so now I am going to do the post since it was I that had to deal with an overly flirtatious and inappropriate director Diane Chamuryan. My girlfriend and I recently went to sign up for a program at American Career College and it was a HUGE mistake for the fact that their Admissions Director wanted to practically sell herself to me in order to get me to enroll! My girl and I went together but we didn't disclosed that we were together we both saw our admissions reps and I thought we were both done but but I ended up getting pulled into her office. The first thing when meeting Diane Chamuryan is she stuck out her chest so you can see she has a low cut shirt on and then acts like she's picking up stuff to display her chest even more. After that show Diane sits on her chair then leans all the way forward on her desk that way her chest is displayed on her desk the whole time. Diane kept trying to sell the program while making motions with her chest and being flirtatious by asking to take pictures and give my number so she can send them to me, she also advertised her social media profiles that are filled with flirtatious and provocative pictures. I knew this was just not a good fit for myself nor my girlfriend because we have higher morals than what was being displayed. It's sad because I really did like meeting my Instructor he seemed very cool, but if this school has such a great reputation why are you resorting to sexuality to get people to sign up? Are times that desperate now? After my girlfriend and I left the next day we started getting crazy phone calls at home from Diane that sounded threatening one minute then flirtatious the next constantly! I had it with ACC and thanks to people like Diane I saved thousands of dollars by choosing a college that doesn't have an admission director that acts like she's in a strip club to make a sale. read more

I would like to take this moment to give credit where credit is past due and probably under appreciated. Mr. Joshua Cosa, the didactic Respiratory teacher, is perhaps the most creative and intellectual professors I have ever come across. That in itself is an understatement. He would always have the class fully engaged. His tactics and techniques to keep us motivated and moving forward were unwavering. He always had enough patience to be able to elaborate efficiently and effectively until the students understood. He would give plenty examples and teach a concept from different angles in order for a student to fully understand. He always started off with basic concepts and crescendo'd into a full blown critical thinking concept. This is how we started and ended our journey with Professor Cosa. He pushed, and pushed, and pushed until we felt like we couldn't go on any further and he would come back and right when you think he was about to console you, he pushed you and motivated and kept you moving forward until we reached our goal. Professor Joshua Cosa told us one day, "Perseverance is working hard, after you've already worked hard". He was very serious and very passionate about his role as our teacher. His teaching style was unique and very appreciated. He had a plan and a curriculum that he led and we followed. He was the type of teacher who had students that didn't want to fail him. A lot of us were self motivated and saw it as a personal challenge to complete our goals. But we also did not want to disappoint our professor with all the hard work he put into presenting, teaching, mentoring, challenging and guiding us. We the graduates of August 2013 are proud products of Mr. Joshua Cosa. Professor Joshua Cosa was the Phil Jackson of Respiratory. Or shall I say, Phil Jackson is the Joshua Cosa of Basketball. We will always see him as our mentor, our teacher, our professor, our sensei, our sifu, our guide and at the end of the day, our friend.
