I've had vision insurance since I was very young and have never paid more than a small copay (around $20) for an exam. I even have dual coverage, so I assumed I was fully covered here. When I arrived, I was told my insurance was VSP, which gave me confidence that everything would be fine. However, after completing my exam, I was suddenly told that my insurance didn't cover it and that I owed $196 out of pocket. I was shocked. Had I been informed of this beforehand, I never would have gone through with the exam and would have found another place. Had a pleasant experience at Geneva eyecare. I interacted with Donna and Dr Yi who were both great to work with. Thank you to Donna for finding a way to accommodate me even though the new software that they were working with didn't do what it was supposed to. I thought I had booked an appointment online for Saturday morning only to find out that it hadn't registered when I showed up. I was totally expecting to be told that they were sorry, Saturday mornings are busy and they couldn't accomodate me. Fortunately Dr Yi made the time and Donna facilitated finding me a slot and getting my check up done. The check up itself went smoothly and was quite efficient. In all I was out within an hour. It could have been a frustrating morning and a waste of a day. They made sure it wasn't. One star knock is for the new appointment software, other than that, good experience. read more

TL;DR - Only came here to order glasses. Great option if you have VSP insurance. Carries a large number of popular brands at reasonable prices. After visiting 16 offices, I finally found frames that fit my small face, in the color and style I wanted. The optician was kind, patient, and helpful, even on the last day of the year when people are scrambling to use benefits. Great customer service! Note: This is a review of my experience purchasing glasses with the optician. I am not a patient at this office and have not seen any of the providers. I kid you not. I went to 16... sixteen (!!) optometry offices in the last few days looking for glasses that fit my small/narrow face. I'm in between kids and adult sizes, so it's always been tough finding glasses in the size, style, and color I want. On the LAST day of the year (before my insurance benefits were expiring), I was scrambling to find glasses. I had just come from another office where the staff were impatient and unhelpful, so I was about to give up. Enter Geneva Eye Care! This practice is a great option if you have VSP vision insurance because they are one of the "premier program" providers, meaning your benefits go farther here. VSP provides higher coverage on featured frame brands, and Geneva has a whopping 17 featured brands, which is higher than most premier providers on the VSP site. I can't speak to how easy it is to schedule appointments, but it's nice that they're open late (6pm) and on Saturdays. I arrived around 11am on a Friday. The office is on a fairly busy street. There is limited meter parking nearby, so you may want to park on one of the smaller adjacent streets. The place is clean and modern. I was greeted by the optician named Marvelle (spelling?) when I entered. She was helping someone else, so she allowed me to try on glasses while I waited to be assisted. Other offices I had been to do not allow this. Some even require you to have an appointment to see an optician. So I was relieved to find that the rules are more relaxed here. As I was browsing, I was struck by the variety of brands and styles they have. Most practices I went to only carry a few select brands, many of which don't work for my face. So this was a pleasant surprise. Some brands they carry: Altair, bebe, Calvin Klein, Dragon, Flexon, Nike, Spyder, Anne Klein, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, Chloe, Draper James, KLiik (great for small faces), Salvatore Ferragamo, Ray Ban, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Eternal Glamour.. the list goes on. They also have lots of styles for Asian faces. Also, pricing is reasonable! The same Gucci glasses I tried at a couple of offices in San Jose and San Francisco were over $400 but at Geneva they were closer to $370. So you might save money here if you are looking for designer glasses. Once the optician was free, she immediately and enthusiastically offered her assistance. She was kind, patient, and resourceful. She would tell me if something was too big or small on my face. She offered helpful recommendations on brands that fit my taste. She looked up options on the computer and was happy to call customer service for various brands to see what they carry. Overall, stellar customer service. Once I (finally) found frames I liked, she sat me down, printed out my VSP benefits, and patiently walked me through ALL my options and what it would cost. She went above and beyond to make sure I understood every detail of my plan -- amazing! I was told it would take 3 weeks for my glasses to come in. I am an old customer since 2014, every year I will order my eyeglass at this office, from now on I will not go to this office anymore. The front desk clerk did not follow the schedule appointment order, I ask for reschedule since I already wait for more than 20 minutes from my time, they just tell me wait and said the doctor will see me in 10 minutes. I wait for 45 minutes still can't see Dr. Yee. I will not recommend the place to any person. They are not professional and don't know how to treat customer. read more

I don't have any complicated eye issues, aside from just having terrible eyesight, so I can't give any in-depth reviews, but I just had a general easy and positive experience here getting contacts for the first time in several decades. Reception staff is friendly, I waited MAYBE twenty minutes in total from start to finish, including preliminary tests and then for the optometrist, who was effecient and friendly, listened to what I was looking for, and worked with it. I also appreciate that the mask policy remains in place even though "official" protocols have been relaxed. As an aside, I also managed to leave my regular glasses there on the way out, came back a few hours later (hoping I did in fact leave them there, not on the street or something), staff immediately saw me walk in and waved me over, holding up my glasses, which was just really nice. First off, I greatly appreciate how aggressively they followed COVID safety protocols (I was greeted at the door with a squirt of hand sanitizer). Everyone on staff was friendly and Dr. Yee was ale to complete several tests by relying on her experience with old-fashioned tests when one of the newer items was giving incomplete data. I had an easy time choosing among the frames that were wide enough to fit my wide face and I did not get pressured for buying higher priced styles. Well I've been coming here for 10 years & the service has been great. but since my insurance doesn't pay for glasses I can't afford to get my glasses here, I just get my eyes checked and they fix my glasses for free. the only thing is that if you lose a little piece that sits on your nose it cost four bucks which is cheap but if you bring in the piece they fix it for free. They have a lot of name brand glasses two doctors there you have to make appointment. they pretty quick in and out sometimes it depends if there's a lot of people there. I like the end of the year they have free pocket calendars, and then at it Halloween hv candy! Yum! ;) So if you're looking for a new eye doctor check to see what kind of insurance they tak see if you want u have a new doctor. read more

The team here is very hands on, they were able to tell me more about my benefits than I found online. They did thorough testing that I didn't know were a part of eye exams. Worst service ever. TLDR; Long waits. Customer service - inexistent. I came here for an updated prescription and to get my eyes checked. After going through some of the eye checks, I got my eyes dilated and was told to wait 15-20 mins. I ended up waiting for 2 hours. I was told my glasses would be ready in 2-3 weeks. Now, 6 weeks later (Sep 22 - Nov 4) - I have just received my glasses. I called a handful of times and no one there knew anything about the status of the glasses. The staff seems to be incapable of finding out more (literally absolutely anything) about where it is or when it's coming and that's lazy customer service. One time - they said they would call me back the next day with an update and never did. Another time - they said my request for blue light lens delayed the order and that they were making them purple instead? If there are any changes, this should be communicated prior to doing it. Today, I gave them another call to check on it. They told me they still didn't know and would have someone call me with an update within 3 hours. I decided to call again a few minutes later to ask for a refund if the glasses still aren't there by the end of the day. This time, Wendy Ung picked up and told me the glasses were there since the 26th of Oct (1 week and 2 days ago) and they had given me a call a week before to let me know. I never received a call - and even if I missed it, they should have called again. If you value your time and energy, get your glasses elsewhere. read more

If you are getting your eye exam here, beware of HIDDEN costs! A bunch of extra eye tests were added on to my regular annual eye exam, which I wasn't informed about and they charged me extra $$ fee for it. Prior to meeting the optometrist, I was pointed to a series of preliminary eye test setups, not knowing the purpose or results of those tests. The doctor didn't walk me through any of the test results either and only mentioned that my power hadn't changed much from the previous year. Not sure why all the extra tests were performed then. Also, be sure to get your prescription emailed to yourself right away while in the store, otherwise it can be challenging to get them to email it to you. I had to call in 4 times to get a copy. They don't provide paper copies of your prescription either, which is fine during covid times. This was my second year getting an eye exam here and I did have a good experience with Dr Yee last year where she walked me through the details of my prescription. The staff does a good job of helping with frame selection, however I found them pushy this year right after my exam. read more

My daughter and I have been going to see Dr. Ung for about 6 years now and I always feel so lucky to be a patient of hers. She's very professional and especially very thoughtful and patient with my child. I appreciate her so much that this year I brought a second child who was due for his first official eye doctor appointment and she did not disappoint. Their scheduling is horrible. They'd make the customers that make it on time for up to an hour because the previous customers were late... that was my case, I had a 2:30 pm appointment but they didn't see me until 3:30 pm just to find out their equipment was broke, so I had to reschedule. The worst experience in a medical establishment I've ever had! I'm not someone to write reviews, but it was that bad! First, I waited long time to be seen, despite having an appointment (about 45 min ). Then the person taking images of my eyes didn't know what they were doing so we had to try at least 10 times (not kidding!) to get a proper image of my right eye. After examination, I was told that I need 2 pairs of glasses- for near and far sight. I've got a coupon for one free, so I paid about $200 for one pair and expected second one free. When I went to pick up my prescription glasses two weeks later, I had to wait at least 30 min. Then there was only one pair (the one I paid for) which was TOTALLY WRONG- it gives me headache as soon as I put the glasses on and I can't see clearly at all! And I was told that second pair is not free (?!?!?!) despite them receiving the coupon and keeping it. I was so furious that I just walked out and throw the glasses away. DON'T GO THERE! read more

My first visit was in 2014 when I got fitted for my first pair of contacts. I remember it being a good experience. At the time, I did not have insurance and paid for the exam and contacts out of pocket and the staff were very nice and accommodating to my budget. I visited different eye doctors in 2015 and 2016, but ultimately came back again in 2017 because I liked the service and how I was treated compared to other eye clinics. At Geneva Eye Care, I never felt rushed with the exam or the eye glasses selection. All of the staff that I worked with was patient and took the time to explain the procedure, the results of my exam, and even the breakdown of what I was paying. I really appreciated the explanations and how patient they were. I think those two are very important to customer satisfaction. Additionally, they have a pretty good selection of designer eye glasses, which is ultimately what I gravitate towards. They could use a wider selection with more color options; however, for a small eye clinic in the Mission, their current pickings are not that bad. read more

Nice people. I spend over $500 on glasses and frames (only). I ordered the transition lenses and they never got very dark for me. Then I'm told the transitions don't work when you're inside of your car because of the UV glass that's in your car. So if you're like me with sensitive eyes you'll have to wear another pair of prescription sunglasses. Or I was given the option to spend another $185.00 for some custom made clip on sunglasses. WOW I already have over $500 invested in these glasses that I CAN NOT use when I'm driving and the only remedy is to spend even more money. LOL... I thought I asked all of the right questions, but as the old saying goes..."buyer beware" you'll get what they give you, no matter what your expectations are. No refunds... your just stuck with it. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was the first lady was very nice and spend a lot of time helping me, but the end result is 1 star (at best). read more

I had my first eye exam here in like 7 years and had a great experience. It can be hard to find parking, but I drove into a side street (like Paris or Lisbon St) and was able to find a couple street parking spots. They gave me hand sanitizer and checked my temperature as soon as I entered. The optometrist (Dr. Yee) was professional and genuinely seemed concerned for my eye health. I had specific eye problems that I'd been dealing with for years and she worked extra hard to figure out what it was. There's a huge variety of glasses, I spent so much time looking at them afterwards but they were so patient with me. I finally have glasses that suit my face :) Costs were reasonable too. Back at home, I saw only saw one optometrist growing up. When I moved to the Bay Area, I was worried I wouldn't find someone that I could trust to diagnose and recommend me solutions for my vision problems. I decided to check out Geneva Eye Care because of its convenient location and it was in-network for vision insurance (Cigna). I've seen Dr. Yee twice, and both times have been pleasant experiences. On my most recent visit, she recommended that I should try out another brand of contact lenses since my Acuvue ones just weren't cutting it anymore. So far, I'm pleased with the results! Eye exams can be booked online (super convenient) and they do a good job of following up with you prior to your appointment. I haven't gotten an eye exam in ages, meaning it was bound to change and not improve especially working in front of a computer for long hours during the workweek. After looking for clinics that accepted my insurance, I chose Geneva Eye Care for the close proximity to my house. I scheduled an appointment on their website and was promptly called by their receptionist to confirm my appointment and they also did a reminder call the day before my appointment. On the day of my appointment I was greeted by Raymond who checked me in. I meet with their technician/receptionist for the pre-test and finally with Dr. Ung who conducted a very thorough exam and she was very helpful in explaining things. The exam was overall very complete and my options were well presented. In the end, I worked with Raymond to choose my frames and lens. Raymond has a lot of knowledge when it comes to picking the most popular frames among age groups. They have a huge selection of frames available. They also offer many customization options for lens, such as coatings, polarization, transitions, blue light tint, and you name it. Raymond will explain the pricing carefully and in terms of what is covered by insurance. The turnaround time for them you order your glasses was also very quick and was ready for pick up in less than 5 business days. The customer service is outstanding and they are willing to go the extra mile to accommodate their customer. Having worked at an optometrist's office part-time for about 3 years, I must say that this particular office is clean, organized, and professional. The staff is friendly and is always ready to cater to your needs. The pre-testing is done by the tech/receptionist and all of the resulting information is entered into their computer system for the optometrist to review later, during the actual exam. After looking for a place that specializes with childrens eye exams I found Geneva Eye care! Close to muni, bart. Metered parking as well. The staff were helpful, the eye doctor explained to me my child's exam, what was happening, explained the results. Raymond and Wendy are very helpful wiht the selection my child's eye glasses, they explained to me which frames would be most useful for a very active child(flexible frames), pricing how much my insurance covered, color and fitting. Geneva eye care has great selection of eye glasses, various colors, updated styles at a good price as opposed to others place that offer same styles but much higher price. I came here back in December after I broke my hard contact lenses and needed a new prescription. The front of the office has always been busy-looking the couple times I've been here. In the front, they have all the frame selection, the table where you can try them on, and the receptionist desk. It's a little confusing because you have to walk to the back of the waiting area to get to the receptionist desk. I saw Dr. Ung when I came here, and she did a good job of examining me and putting all my options on the table. I had a little bit of a unique situation because of my reliance on hard lenses and my sudden switch to exclusively glasses, but she really took the time to explain what was going on, and different actions I could take. I really appreciate that she informed me and gave me her opinion. without any pressure to take any particular option (I have a paranoia that doctors will try to sell you on things you may not necessarily need). Dr. Yee and Raymond did a great job at helping me and my boyfriend pick a set of frames, as well as discuss how the pricing breaks down after the insurance. She also helped me figure out how much it would be to get hybrid contact lenses (note: too expensive for me, anyway) in case I wanted those. They were quite patient, even though we were there after hours. Honestly, the only reason Geneva Eye Care doesn't get a full 5 from me is the pricing. I don't know if I'm just new at this whole adulting thing, but the glasses here are pretty pricey. I know I can get cheaper frames online, but the service here is good and I trust them. They were also pretty speedy at getting my frames to me. They quoted 2 weeks, and they were here within 1! Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience here and would recommend it to a friend. I had been coming here for 2 going on 3 years but now I will no longer give them my business and my friends I had recommended will stop as well. The staff is very friendly but the doctor would rush during the visits but I ignored that because everyone was so friendly. However I made an appointment a week ago and the appointment was for 3 weeks out with COVID I get that so I ordered colored contacts on line and gave them Doctors name so they could get my prescription the doctor rejected my order. I called the office to find out why but I knew she wanted me to spend my money there. And her reason was my prescription wasnt final. I had my prescription for months. I have an occasion I needed them for, but now that is not going g to happen. How dare you try to control how and wherein spend my money. Most of the reviews are accurate. Very friendly staff and Dr. Yee is the best. Went in on a Saturday, got my glasses by Friday. The only reason I gave them 3 stars is their pricing is a tad bit high. Almost $200 for the exam! I also blame myself for not doing my homework. I priced out the EXACT same glasses with the EXACT same prescription, and with a higher grade UV, Scratch Resistance, Transitions and Online they were $183 cheaper... =( This place was charging me $180 just for the frame! Today, I brought my younger brother here for an eye exam for the first time. First impressions mean everything to me and I was instantly sold! The staff are EXTREMELY friendly and courteous, especially the gentleman at the front desk named Raymond and the woman who saw my brother before seeing his optometrist named Marvel!!! Even Aaron!
