The reception and nearby X-ray room were very dark, which was a little scary, but otherwise didn't seem to affect the systems much. I saw the previous reviews about tool cleanliness so I was a little concerned, but my tooth was aching too much so I didn't check too carefully, unfortunately. They accept Medi-Cal and new patients, for now at least, which was why I came here. A lot of dentists listed with Medi-Cal are not accepting new patients and don't bother updating their listings, so it was a bit of a hassle to find someone who did. Dr. Vu was polite and efficient in extracting my aching wisdom teeth and it didn't hurt thanks to the properly applied anesthesia. I was a little concerned about the lack of aftercare instructions regarding two extracted wisdom teeth, but it's general knowledge and easy enough to look up, plus my extraction appointment was an emergency appointment scheduled a mere 2 hours ahead of time (I'm also just now realizing I had mistook their hours with a different clinic's and called before they were even open and still got a response and an appointment), so I understand if there was a bit of a rush. The overall experience was fine and Dr. Vu gave me the option of adding some collagen plugs and sutures that weren't covered by Medi-Cal, though he was clear on the pricing and the lack of coverage. I took the options to be safe. In general, it was a pleasant experience, with the front-desk being very friendly and the doctor himself fairly brisk but capable. I came to have a wisdom tooth pulled out because the pain was killing me. Dr. Kevin Vu did not have the best intentions. He was trying to upsell me to buy some tooth replacement for my wisdom teeth. I had no intention of buying it. So my appointment came and I told him I didn't want the tooth replacement. He told me he couldn't pull my wisdom tooth out because I refused to buy the tooth replacement. I was in a lot of pain so I paid 100 dollars out of pocket for it. I was so mad that he would take advantage of me. I had to let him know to give my mouth a break for opening too much. He was not nice about it. Then he wanted to do a teeth cleaning, which I thought was weird. My mouth had been open too many time for the day and I didn't think I could hold out any longer. read more

I took my granddaughter to this dentist for a root canal they said it would cost $1200 and it will take a month for Medi-cal to approve so in the meantime he would put a temporary filling he didn't fully numb the tooth so when he began drilling my granddaughter told him she could feel it and he said "your fine" and continued drilling. He told us he couldn't do a silver filling it had to be porcelain - which cost more and sometimes is not covered by insurance- I had to pay $300 right then. My granddaughter was in a lot of pain that night the next day was her ortho appt to get her braces on and they weren't able to put the braces on because this dentist, Doctor Vu fused her teeth together with the filling material and they weren't able to get these bands around the teeth so I have to go back for another appointment so that they can chip off the filling material from her tooth and get the braces on sloppy Dentistry don't go here read more

I was skeptical at first, but then Dr. Vu did his thing. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. I went to a different dentistry who was very reputable, and they recommended to do operation on one of my tooth. Dr. Vu said otherwise. He was insisted that it was not that tooth. If I could give zero star I would. Kevin Vu is not qualified to be a dentist. He does not care about his patients. He cares about how to cheat them for insurance money. He runs a shady practice. One visit at his office and you will RUN out the door FAST. Not to mention the moment you walk in the door, the place is dark and filthy - like walking into a drug smoking joint. Your first impression will be "Is everyone at lunch already?" even though its only 11am business hours. He can't afford to keep the lights on so it's really dark in the front and back office. Dirty office, unclean tools, no customers, and can't keep the lights on. Get the hint? Its funny how he still does not have proper voicemail setup to identify himself. If you reach his voicemail, it will say "This mailbox is not setup yet"; Kevin runs a shady practice so he is afraid to identify himself and you cannot leave a message either. Maybe he's afraid of FRAUD investigator calling??? But when you leave a message with the receptionist asking Kevin to call you back, he will CALL VERY LATE AT NIGHT (at 10pm). Very strange way to conduct business. 10pm!!! Is that normal??? Of course, the worst is when I discover he committed FRAUD with false claim and had several reports against him for FRAUD claims. During my short one visit, he shared other patients information while talking to me. Is he stupid? He just violated patient confidentiality and committed malpractice. This is a note on the phone assistance. The assistant who answered the phone was * a-ma-zing * when I called regarding MEDICARE dental insurance. I have been given the go-around for 3 days of calling by all these dentists whom are listed on "medicarelist.com/dentists" but no longer accept, and haven't updated their profile on this website. The assistant is the FIRST person out of so many (and many nice "no's" but then goodbye) who took the time to explain it is unfortunately complicated, and I must call my MEDICARE provider first to have THEM FIRST confirm and send the info to the dentist before arriving. That lead to me calling Medicare who sent me to Kaiser (as I'm Kaiser Medicare) who sent me to Delta Dental which is a faction of the Medicare Plan I'm taking who then told me -- well this dentist is "Medicare" but not "Advantage Plus Delta Dental Medicare", and here is your list of dentists for Kaiser Medicare Delta Dental.... I have my first appointment on Wednesday 2 weeks ago and when I drove all the way there, they said that their computer system is down and asked me to leave phone number and they will contact me if the computer get fixed. Why didn't they contact me beforehand so I don't have to drive all the way there ?! Ok so I asked them how long do you think it will take. He said that he doesn't know. I have gotten a cleaning as well as my child. They did an okay job however this review is for their dishonesty and shadiness I felt in my gut so I got a second opinion. After getting X-rays the doctor said I had 5 cavities and I was shocked. Since all I had was medi-call coverage I didn't want black fillings and was getting charged $120/ tooth. After going to McKee dental care the doctor took X-rays and before my apt I asked the doctor directly if he was willing to work with me. Something that this place refused to do. End result was I had ZERO cavities. What?? None at all!!! There goes him trying to make an extra buck.. In addition to his shadiness, my husband got a tooth pulled and disliked the cleanliness of their tools. The woman helper didn't was hands before putting gloves on and used tools on a napkin from a previous patient. He asked her "you aren't going to clean them before you use them on me?" And she went to wash them. (Shocker). My husband had severe tooth pain during the COVID19 shut down. Every dentist was closed except for Kevin's office. He gave him an appointment the next day and quickly did an extraction on the spot. Worse experience with this dental office, deep cleaning means it will hurt, dentist jamed the anaesthetic needle into gum, I was asking to give 30 seconds for the numming to start, the dentist started cleaning process and I was asking when he will give the rest of the anaesthetic shot? No reply from the dentist.......It hurts so much to have deep cleaning done with no anaesthetic. So dentist decided to do it by manually.....How do you perform deep cleaning manually? And after almost not a lot of cleaning, the dentist said it's done and turn around and ask me what I do for work, and telling me he has done this for 20 years.......20 years of lack of experience and rush..... Receptionist seems like she was still high and does not know what to do and can't operate a credit card machine and wanted to charge us maximum deductible without explanation. Nobody really wants to visit the dentist but it helps for me to have a local dentist that I know will help me with my dental issues,,, I have had a variety of dental procedures done by Dr. Vu of Toothscaler,,, He has helped my save teeth that were having issues from old crowns coming off to pulling broken teeth and helping me get fitted with dentures that made a big difference in how I can eat and even my self esteem from having a great smile again,,, In my recent visit I had to have a crown replaced and he mentioned he was using newer materials without metal, which have learned can be a source of toxicity in the body, leading to other health complications... I appreciate that,,, He was working with a newer assistant this day and I was impressed how he kept telling her the correct procedures for keeping the tools and enviroment sterile... He constantly changed his gloves when moving from one area of work to another.. I was impressed that he took the time to teach that to his employee.... My mother came to this office to have a new set of dentures done for her, the dentist (Dr. Kevin Vu) made her a new set however he didn't even let her try it on before charging her for it. She finally picked it up and felt it was very uncomfortable in her mouth but taking their advice, she decided to try wearing it for a couple of days to weeks to see if she'd change her mind about how it felt... she didn't. Later on when she contacted them to tell them how much she didn't like it and how it was hurting her, they kept on telling her that her work has been done here and she's already been back a bunch of times when that wasn't true at all. The doctor is great at cleaning it felt like a deep cleaning but was just a regular cleaning. I really recommend this place to give it a try. They are new and just opened not to long ago. Warning! Do not come here if you have a choice! My mom came to this place to do annual check up, after the X-ray they told my mom that she needs a root cannel redone and they can do it the same day. They first clean her root cannel and charge us $500 cash. We we were suppose to come back after a week. however, my mom felt that his skill was not that great and it was very painful when he cleans , she wanted to do the second part somewhere else, since we are paying out of pocket anyways. HERE IS THE PROBLEM! When we go to another place and do the scanning again we realize that his work was very bad! Out of the three roots, only one root was completely cleaned and the other two roots were half way done. One of the root was even inflamed!!! Other doctors didn't want to pick up the mess and refuse to help us. ** we asked two other places and same result. We had no choice but to go back to this shitty place again. His explanation was that he knew the problem and couldn't get into other roots at the first operation. He didn't even bother to tell us the first place. Hadn't us went to another place and check again we would have just let him finish the second part. He should have refer us to a specialist who has the knowledge and skill to clean and fill the roots. He couldn't fix his mess either but to offer to pull out the tooth. Which he did with a very bad attitude and very rough method. He was shaking my mom's head like crazy while pulling he tooth out.
