This office sucks. They only care about money. My husband was in and had X-rays and a cleaning a couple of weeks ago and they said that something is brewing. But did nothing!!!!!!! Well he is in pain now so he called and was told he could not be seen until mid June.TOTALLY UNEXCEPTIONABLE!!!! So had him call my dentist and he was able too get in the same day. They sent him to a specialist 2 days later and now needs to have a few procedures to get out of pain and it will happen tomorrow. I really hate this place as they did me wrong also. WOULD NEVER NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL!!!!!!!! read more

My last cleaning appt, scheduled for 10/29/24, was canceled that morning via a voice message. The staff said the hygienist I was scheduled with no longer works there- after they had just confirmed the appointment with me a day or two prior. I called back that day and had to leave a message, and asked them to call me asap as it had already been 9 months since my last cleaning. No call back. In January I called again. Finally got a call back tonight at 6:30 PM, asking how they could help me. I explained I have left several messages because they keep canceling my appointments for cleanings (this is the third time in several years they call and cancel the same day as my appointment). She apologized and said they can get me in on February 3, 2026! An entire year out. I am looking for a new dental provider and will move all the rest of my family away from them as well. I also see on the provider website they are accepting new patients - so this feels targeted to me. No idea why. Regardless, I am out! read more

Wonderful care and truly gentle. I had to have a tooth extracted and a bone graft, and I was very nervous because I have had trouble getting numb in the past. Dr. Peterschmidt and the staff took the time to ensure I was completely comfortable and numb. He explained to me every step of the procedure what to expect in a very calm and soothing voice. The whole process was surprisingly quick and pain free! The office staff is also right on top of everything and kept me informed about my insurance coverage before my procedure. Also, they are all very friendly and warm. If you are worried about going to the dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Peterschmidt and the staff at Gentle Dental Skyline. read more

Office experience and billing dept. Gentle Dental Skyline the worst in billing, customer service, and management! Sharing an experience that my neighbor is having with Gentle Dental I have been trying to get a refund since August 5th, 2024. I paid over the phone after speaking to the billing person over the phone. After MONTHS of trying to figure out my bill. Never pay over the phone before you see your statement. I receive the paid statement and it has some other person's procedure on my bill. You would think that it is an error and easily fixed. NOPE! They can take your payment at the local Salem OR. office but refunds have to go to Corporate offices back East! Crazy. I call numerous times trying to resolve and only get voicemail. I leave messages and no one calls me back. So I have to drive there. They tell me the billing person is only in on Fridays. Not convenient for me. So I work and get busy and Friday comes and goes. I leave messages, still no return call. They first wanted to charge me 128.00 for Dental Hygience consult. So this has been going on way before August 4, 2024. Finally after having to go into the office for that, they tell me that was an error. So then I keep getting these bills all with different amounts. Back to me finally paying over the phone only to receive the statement in the mail and seeing that they have my daughter's procedure on my bill. Ok...should be easy to fix if you can get ahold of someone, right? Wellllll, my daughter is not on my insurance. She is a grown person, great job, with her own insurance. It gets better, before all of this I found out they had my daughter and myself under my spouses insurance. Hum, my spouse has retired and no longer has insurance. And for my last cleaning, simple procedure, I showed them my new insurance. Which they supposedly verified. So finally I make another trip to the office. The manager figures it all out. She is looking at the computer and swivels around in her chair towards me and says "And you can't get the 65.00 from your daughter". I can't believe that she asked that of me. First all all, you charged the wrong insurance company....2nd-yes, I can get the 65.00 from my daughter but that is not the point. You charged my 90.00 over the phone and 65.00 was not my portion. So I go to the office today because no one called me back from yesterday's message and no called me from my other 3 voicemails. I give them all day to call me back. Finally I get there in person by 4PMish. No one at the front desk/window area. And employee across the room, in my opinion, is too lazy to get out of her chair and walk across the office to help me at the window. She has to just sit there and say can I help you. OMG! No customer service. So rude. Then she gets up walks over to me and I am not frustrated yet as she is fielding questions. All I want to do is speak to the manager who helped me last time and who is familiar with my problem. The manager is not there. I asked to speak to the billing person. This employee accuses me of yelling. NO, I know yelling and this was not yelling. It was talking frustratedly. So with hesitation she decides to attempt to talk to the billing person. I say "Gee Thanks". She gets mad at me and puts her hand on her hip, all powerful, and huffs. I smile real big and say thank you!! Man, crazy. She comes back and says the billing person says I have to wait until Monday to speak with the manager. Come on. You can't even look at my account and see if a refund is in progress??? OMG!! My lesson learned-don't pay over the phone without seeing the line item charges. Gentle Dental used to have professionals when they were on Liberty Street for years. Their customer service, billing dept. and management have gone way down hill. And ya know, it's not about the money. I will seek a new dental office for sure. read more

Wife & I went in March for new patient exam, x-rays & cleaning. Turns out I got recommended for "deep cleaning". Next available appointment was December..!! Right, NINE MONTHS. Was promised to be put on 'wait list'. Four months later, I finally called a different dentist. Calls to GD went unanswered. Majority of the time, they don't answer the phone - everything on voicemail/call back basis. Took over two weeks and a nasty email to get Gentle Dental to send over my x-rays & exam records. New DDS thinks I don't need the 'deep cleaning'. I so liked the new DDS, my wife also decided to switch from GD. Requested records be sent - never happened. She went there in person and was told to her face they had no record of her ever being there. Just before leaving, the office manager came rushing out saying she found the records....... Never had the chance to experience the true dental staff, but the office seems totally overwhelmed, inept and unprofessional read more

Plan to spend the day here. I got a call from the receptionist last week asking us to move the routine exam appointment we made 3 months ago. We accommodated that. We were asked to arrive 15 minutes early. We did. My teenage son sat in the exam room alone for almost a half hour before texting me in the lobby asking what to do. We addressed it and still wasn't seen for an hour past his appointment time. He had to go find a tech and I had to get the receptionist involved. We get charged a fee if we are late. They can be late with no communication to a kid and no apologies. My son will miss the entire second half of the day at school at this point. I had to cancel an appointment I had because this has taken so long. What's the point of an appointment? read more

My son had an appointment, I received multiple reminders of it. He was there on time and ready and was told they changed his appointment as they decided to have a staff meeting and he can wait in the car for 30 minutes. Very unprofessional and disrespectful of their clients time. Not a good way to keep patients coming back. As far as treatment goes, he was going in because he had chipped a tooth and I thought it ahould be sealed or something. They were told that when the other appointment was scheduled. What did they do? An x-ray of his wisdom teeth and told him to come back in almost a month to get the chipped tooth treated. This was after waiting almost a month for this appointment! This Dentis office has a messed up automated text reminder. Sending us to the dentist when we were never supposed to be seen. Appointment dates have been changed on me automatically like they changed the appointment without notifying me. Simple mistakes all technology can have but what brings me here today to complain, I was called and asked if We would come in at noon instead of 11. So, I pulled my daughter out of school right at her lunch time. Well about 5 minutes into waiting A lady brings in 2 handfuls of food to the back. A stack of pizzas and huge bag of Olive Garden and more. After waiting for 30 minutes with no one in the office, no one else in the waiting room, laughter coming from the back, My daughter began to get upset and saying Shes hungry too and saying they are just eating. She could smell the Pizza. Well a lady comes out right about then to say they are in an important meeting and it will only take a few more minutes. So we sat there a total of 45 minutes in the waiting room listening to them enjoy lunch laughing and having the greatest important Lunch MEETING. But! If I'm more than 5 minutes late my children lose their chance at having appointments and I have to call in in the mornings to see if anything is open for them to do teeth. In my opinion if you're going to have policy that kicks people out for 5 min lateness then I believe you should be on top of your appointments you schedule. like for instance waiting to take that lunch until the appointments you scheduled are done, that Your customers have to strictly maintain. Your time is just as Presious as your customers time is. On a serious note the Dentist assistant In the past, let my child get x-rayed without the heavy bib. When I asked them why they didn't use it they told me the x-ray doesn't pose any risk. But there is a bib off to the side to be used and a Red sign that says something to the effect of to stand behind the wall wile taking x-rays. I DO NOT Recommend making this your dentist all I have gotten is a run around. For almost every appointment since our first appearance. would give a zero if I could. office staff is not efficient in communicating with doctor. was in office and there system was down so they wanted payment for X-ray when tooth appointment was for was in system already. receptionist said would call me to reschedule right when system was up.she never did! when I called back Dr had put me on a no call no show even when I was in office and reason i was not seen was due to their computer being down . since this day I have been working with manager to get appointment for same issue for months. today I went in for appointment and while I was in office they said my card was declined by care credit. I called care credit while I was there because I knew that was wrong and I really needed to resolve my tooth pain. care credit gave me way to process with billing receptionist. instead of billing she asked me to see office manager who advised me since I had a missed appointment and now payment issue the do it had no intention of seeing me. when I checked email after appointment i noticed care credit sent a notice my card was reported stolen while I was in their office!! read more

Don't know why there are so many negative reviews of this office. I've never had any issues with them. Been going to Gentle Dental since they were downtown on the other end of Liberty. Office staff is always professional, helpful and kind. My hygienist Nanette has been doing my teeth for nearly a decade. She is extremely thorough, always doing a super job keeping my teeth clean and shiny. I guess the only complaint is the fact of having a new dentist occasionally, but that is inevitable with most "chain" dental offices. Kinda miss the view from the other building and its convenience to work, but this one is now newer, besides being closer to my house. read more

I wish I could give this place a half star, or zero. But they are the worst dentist office I've ever been to. The doctor is an ass, he has no form of bedside manner or as it would seem... Patience. The last appointment I had at this office, I watched the dental assistant setup the tools for the current procedure that day without using any pairs of gloves. The last straw for me was when I charged my dental work to the 0% APR card they offered via a third party vendor. I gave my SSN, ID and all proper paperwork. A month later, I was wondering where my credit card was so I could make a payment. Come to find out that not only the receptionist typed my telephone number in the application wrong, she got my address wrong as well. Even after giving her my ID!!! Luckily the company waived the late fee for the first months bill and I asked on time. I have never seen such a level of incompetency and unprofessionalism. I hadn't been to a dentist in years when I ventured here for some routine care and a wisdom tooth pull. To say that I was unprepared for the exorbitant pricing and sneaky tactics to get me to pay more would be putting it mildly. First I had to have x-rays, and pay the price. Even though I didn't want (or need) a whole set of x-rays, as I only wanted to have a tooth pulled, they claimed that I "had" to have them done. Fine, whatever. Then I had a regular exam, another "must" and pay for that too. I'm not even sure what the point of it was--the dentist just poked and prodded for 15 minutes and then spent another 15 talking to me about liberal ideologies (which was fine, I guess, since I'm pretty liberal). After this whole process they set me up to have the tooth pulled by some other guy (!). They quoted me, and I returned two weeks later. I arrive, terrified, and was given another price, with the explanation that the additional money was for a "consultation" with the tooth-puller. Didn't I already do this? After breaking down in tears and demanding the price that I was given originally, they relented (who says crying doesn't work?!). After bawling my eyes out in the dentists chair for what seemed like an eternity, a very patient assistant and the VERY patient dentist assured me that the process would be quick---and it WAS! I left feeling slightly ashamed by my behavior but super happy with one less wisdom tooth. If you couldn't tell, I had never had a tooth pulled before. I hate dentists, but I actually feel a little bit better after I dealing with this particular place. Although dental crap is expensive, and although Gentle Dental is conglomerate of dentists, I would give them my business again. read more

I would give this place 5 stars just for the excellent care I received from Laura the hygienist. She is Gentle Dental! The reason I give only three stars, the cleanliness of the office. As I sat in the chair I noticed what appeared to be weeks if not months of filth accumulating on the floor boards and corners. The restroom needs a good cleaning and paint job, they remind me of of a highway truck stop. The building is not maintained or cleaned regularly. The office staff are difficult to work with and make many errors in calculating co-pays, often resulting in over payment. Several times they have told us one appointment time only to put a different time in their system, resulting in missed appointments and rescheduling. Came in for simply reattaching a crown and the refused to unless I let them do a full exam and x rays. So to simply reattach it cost more than $300 bucks, I will never come to a place who's version of customer service is forcing them to spend more money. They quoted 150.00 then charged me over 300.00. My Daughter had an appointment to have her retainer replaced. They told us that it would be ready in 1-2 business days. When I called to schedule the pick up, there was NO record as to the retainer being finished as well as the Ortho team is NOT even scheduled to be at that office on those days. The receptionist was NOT helpful as she didn't know anything and just gave me the phone number to a location that is across town!!! It was crazy!! I spoke with the nice lady at the Lancaster location and guess what?? They had scheduled an appointment for the 23rd WITHOUT telling us. Had I not called to check on the status of the retainer I would know nothing about the appointment. I know that they are restaffing the location due to the Ortho Doc retiring, but can you get it together????? You shouldn't be sending calls to a location that does NOT have access to the things that are at a specific Site. COMMUNICATION IS KEY... read more

I went in for several crowns to be done prior to the move to the new building. I had all x-rays done. A short time later one of the new crowns popped off. I called the new office and went in with the crown and they glued it back and off I went. 5 months later I get a bill. I called and asked why. They said it was for the exam and the X-ray they did that day. I told the man on the phone that they did neither. He said that the cap was done in 2015 and he was looking at the X-ray but that cap was done in 2018 only a few weeks before. I will pay this bill but I will never go into another Gentle Dental office. read more

holy cow! this place is only in it for the insurance money! My wife and daughter went in to ask questions regarding dental implants and they came out feeling like they were just a payment from insurance. They started out telling my wife that she needed to have a thorough cleaning before they would even begin to exam her for implants! this was on top of paying for the "consultation" fee, which was never received, and also paying a insurance co-pay. The dentist and staff seemed more interested in making sure that they got out for their lunch breaks rather that stay with my wife and answer her questions. the dentist even left for lunch without giving any idea of what procedures would be needed for implants. Needless to say, it seemed more like this outfit would rather nickel and dime your insurance and you for every little penny that they can get their grubby little paws on, rather than help the people who pay their wages. So, a word of advise to anybody considering this company. steer clear of them because they don't have the patient as their priority, it's all about the money and how much they can get before the insurance cow runs dry. read more

Dr. Afshar is by far the wost dentist i ever had. He is the reason why people dont see a dentist. He has no patience for someone with bad teeth and then criticized without even knowing someone's back story . Not everyone grew up with money or insurance to get the perfect smile. The only one who seems to care was the receptionist, she was very sweet and asked me what she could do. I went to this dentist for a number of years but stopped because the dental hygienist engaged in behavior that could be described as bullying when I didn't want X-rays every year. Given published studies showing possible increased risk of brain cancer and the fact I had no symptoms of dental problems, I wanted less frequent X-rays. The dental hygienist said she wouldn't clean my teeth, unless I had X-rays, even though I had X-rays the previous year. I wish they would respect their patients' wishes and not force unwanted medical tests. read more

Doctors have no idea what they are doing! Had a consultation with Dr. Basilli about a root canal the nurse took the x-ray's wrong and still got charged for them. Also Dr. Basilli did the cold test on my bad tooth and after he knew it hurt he pressed harder to where I had a tooth ache all day plus you could see the red mark even the next day because he pressed so hard. read more

I was visiting Oregon and had some free time. I needed some fillings and I remembered my friends who live in the area telling me how wonderful their experience was with Dr. Afshar so I decided to give him a try. They got me in his schedule easily, the receptionist was very sweet. Dr. Afshar was knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable going to a new dentist. Going to the dentist can be scary enough, going to one in a new location can be even worse! But Dr. Afshar made it a very easy and educational experience. He explained what he would be doing, answered all my questions, and I left there feeling very satisfied with his work and the entire experience! If I lived in the area, he would absolutely be my regular dentist! I highly recommend him! read more

I have been to Gentle Dental twice now for my three old and Dr. Renato de Luna, DMD is FANTASTIC! I was concerned about my daughter getting scared about dentists because of the loud noises and "odd" smells that go along with getting two new fillings. However, Dr. de Luna is so kind and understanding that my daughter actually enjoyed being in the chair. The building itself is not something I would have considered a dentist office to be in but they work with it pretty well. The entire staff is courteous and efficient. The roof of the building seems to leak frequently and stains the wood ceilings which taints the aesthetics, but other then that it's nice inside. I would recommend that if you have a young child then go to Dr. de Luna because he is exceptional. read more

I went in a few times after avoiding the dentist for years. I didn't care for the dentist, but it was nothing against her skill. The hygienists I saw were all very nice. It takes 3 months to get a cleaning appointment, and I need extra cleanings due to my avoidance. The first time they said they were hiring more to make it easier to schedule, but I haven't seen that. My appointment got cancelled due to unexpected unavailability. The one time they offered me didn't work, and I was faced with waiting 3 additional months. I find this unacceptable and will not go to them again. read more
