I swear by this office! As we know, dental work can be overwhelming in regards to the pricing, the atmosphere and the actual work needed to get done. I'm terrified of the dentist. I was greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk with a very personable and comforting hello! My x-ray and exam went very smooth and they were extremely professional. The minute you go to check out and exit, there is yet another lovely lady to meet! She's incredibly sweet and explained everything thoroughly. From start to finish, you feel comfortable and at ease. Our family has been patients at Gentle Dental in Sparks for nearly 10 years, and both of my kids have had braces and regular cleanings here. Unfortunately, our 4:00 PM appointment today was an extremely disappointing experience. When we arrived, we were told we had been removed from the schedule because we didn't confirm the appointment. I explained that I did confirm through the text system, just like we always have. Claudia at the front desk was very kind and explained they've been having issues with the confirmation system and said they could still see my daughter. A couple technicians came out and said they would get her in shortly, but then another technician came out and said my daughter had been removed from the schedule because we didn't confirm. When I explained what the front desk had told us about the system issue, she said it didn't matter because they were no longer taking 4 PM appointments. When I said maybe we should just leave, she said yes, we should. The manager who we have known for a very long time was standing there during this entire interaction and didn't say a word. After nearly 10 years as patients, being told to leave over what appears to be a system error was shocking. There are plenty of dentists in the area who are actually "gentle" and treat families with kindness and respect. We will be taking our family to one of them instead. I hope the office takes a closer look at how situations like this are handled in the future so other long-time patients aren't treated the same way. read more

While Dr. Cardenas and his assistant provide excellent care, I have encountered significant issues with the office administration and the dental hygienist. Regarding the office management, I experienced several scheduling conflicts and felt dismissed despite having phone confirmations. Furthermore, I requested an estimate for my out-of-pocket costs multiple times prior to treatment, but was only told the amount would be "minimal" due to my dual coverage. I did not receive any EOBs, and my insurance was not billed for eight months. I finally received a bill after 11 months, which incorrectly claimed the balance was 90 days past due. Additionally, the dental hygienist was late for every appointment and performed unauthorized services that resulted in additional costs. Her negative demeanor and the way she communicated regarding my dental health were also quite distressing. Go elsewhere!! read more

Do not recommend. 1) they would cancel your appt because the hygienist is on leave suddenly. Also I forgot her name but one of the hygienists hurt me so much during the deep cleaning, I was in tears. Never again. 2) rude people in general. That lady who checked me out also look and sound very creepy, very nice trying to charge me for extra service that i don't need (laser that I rejected). 3) overcharged as they don't verify the charges with my insurance company and charge the highest rates. And then would not say a word when my insurance company already sent them a check. They would not deal with it when I called, "since you are coming for cleaning, let's discuss it when you come". As I showed up, the same creepy lady would say oh because the insurance check got sent to the corporate office, we need to verify with the office and then issue you a credit. Well, "No I want refund, not credit. " Fast forward to almost two months later, I have been traveling out of state and thought I should receive a refund check by now right? Nope. Nothing. I called them now to see what's going on? The lady picked up the phone said the person who handles that is away, the account shows a credit amount, "no, I want a check!! I need the refund. " She said she will pass the message on and call me back. I will see what happens. I feel extremely uncomfortable with this group of people. Hope I don't need to visit them again. read more

I went to this place because it's closer to where I live. They tried to force me to get a deep cleaning and pay almost $900 out of pocket. I told them I didn't have the money at the time and asked them to please just do the regular cleaning covered by insurance. They refused, and I wasted my time and couldn't get anything done. I later returned to my previous dentist, and they did the cleaning without any problems. I don't recommend this place; they're disrespectful and lack empathy. read more

I was hesitant to post my experience, but after hearing a friend going through something similar, I thought I would share. I had been going to gentle dental for about a year and a half because they take my insurance. Last time I was in there they had fixed a front tooth that had chipped. The bond that they placed on my tooth lasted less than a week and they refused to fix it without me paying for treatment again. We also discussed me having my wisdom teeth removed during the appointment where they bonded my teeth. We set up an appointment for me in the following weeks and during that time, I had tested positive for influenza. I left a message for them in the morning of my appointment because I had just left urgent care and received my test results, letting them know that I was sick. They called me that day and said that they would have to charge me $150 for missing the appointment with the surgeon and so I said I would just rather come in for the appointment. They refused to let me come in, but also refused to reschedule me unless I paid the amount. read more

Do not go here! They are so unorganized. I had a cleaning set for last day of the year. Hygienist assured me I would not miss out on the cleaning for the year. Then they called 2 weeks before and moved my appointment to December 26th, then they sent me a text a couple days before and canceled my appointment all together since the hygienist decided they did not want to work on that day! How is that fair that we lose out on our insurance benefits because they chose not to work at the last minute when we already had it scheduled with assurance for the hygienist. Dr Cardenas is absolutely GREAT. I hate having dental work done and unfortunately have had to have a lot over the years and I can honestly say that Dr Cardenas and the staff at Gentle Dental in Sparks keep everything light and fun while you're there - alleviating most of the stress I feel going to the dentist in general. Not to mention I feel very confident in the work that's being done. The office doesn't smell like a dental office so that really helps! Also - Hygienist Adam completely ROCKS. Covid is over! or maybe not, depends which white house you are listening to. But, it is time to get my teeth done. Deep cleaning and I was waiting for the needle but he only needed a topographical. So painless- so relaxing- I fell asleep! Awesome! The facility is huge! They have a ton of staff! I saw 6 people get helped while I was filling out paperwork! They were trying to get a second procedure done before year end, I thought maybe thanksgiving or perhaps even Christmas week? Nope - tomorrow if I had wanted it! All staff are very professional, Charlene is always nice and cheerful. These people are literal scammers. Just went here to get a second opinion. Went to one appointment and got an exam and X-rays done, nothing else. I specifically told them that I was not sure whether I had insurance and that I would like to pay out of pocket. They were having a deal for a $50 exam and X-rays. I said that I would just like to pay this at the time of service as I pretty much knew that my insurance would not cover it. They refused and said that I had to go through insurance. Now months later I get a bill for like $90 dollars after my insurance that I do not even have anymore already paid them $47. Like seriously you all are ridiculous and do not honor what you sponsor on your site. Shame on you. read more

Im going to try and make a long story short here so bear with me here. I was misdiagnosed over a period of 10-12 months with periodontal disease, even when I told the dentist my teeth kept feeling looser and looser, he insisted it was cause I grind my teeth at night. So then I finally asked him to refer me to a periodontist at a sister facility and he had said virtually the same thing. After that I had a tooth extracted and I wanted to see if it was infected but it was the weekend, I went to a different office they said they needed to do a full exam in order to treat me, so they did and in an instant figured out I had the gum disease. Now I'm considering implants at the age of 20 so there's my story. I would love some sort of compensation, but not expecting it. Side note, the staff and even the dentist that misdiagnosed me were cool. read more

Great place to be treated, staff is very friendly and professional. I went in due to severe wisdom tooth ache and was admitted witting hours of calling them without having an appointment. To my surprise the procedure was scheduled the following day and I was able to do all this within a 24hr frame and no appointment. Procedure Day: I was schedule to go in at their other facility on Moana LN, as soon as I walked in I was welcome from an older lady who took my vitals (thank you for being very welcoming and professional) I went in the room with the Dr and he explained everything that was going to be done that day. The Dr was very friendly and professional and he sure calm my nerves since I was getting all 4 wisdom tooth extracted. Procedure was fast and I had no pain whatsoever, my recuperation has been extremely well and I'm very happy with my results. It was pretty evident that this dentist was out of his realm with dentures and TMJ. Went in with horrible jaw and gum pain and all they were interested in was getting an xray of my 3 yes 3 teeth. I felt like I was getting strong armed into it and that was their primary concern. I explained that I couldn't open my mouth wide due to the jaw pain but they brushed it off. I cried. Looked at me with an impatient and disgusting manner. Will not return. He also can't do oral stitches. Mine and my son's came out hours after an extraction. Awesome Dentist! (Backstory: My 16 yrs. old daughter was in an accident 6 weeks ago and broke her jaw). I Took my daughter to Gentle Dental for a second opinion after being seen by a different dentist that told me my daughter would have to "deal with the pain for 5+ months" before they could help her. Crazy right, a dentist that cannot help with tooth pain...? Anyway, so I called Gentle Dental for a second opinion, the staff got us in to see Doctor Cressman within a few hours. He was incredible and the staff was amazing. He not only fixed her main issue (two split molars) he also took care of the two bicuspids where she had sheared the tops off. Doctor Cressman was awesome. He was very sensitive to her sore jaw and worked with her until she did everything he had promised. Everyone there was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to be there. I will come back, bring the rest of my family, and bring friends. read more

I'm back to update a review, but leave original comments below for patients of ALL dentists. My wife said my original review is not fair to our GREAT dentist and staff. She is right. Thus, I will focus on just a hygienist. I was impressed to get a return voice mail from the dentist while I was in a bad cell area. Clearly he cares about patients, and he is one of our best ever. I wanted to send this info to my dentist, but they don't have an email address on the web site or when I called. My review is long, but intended to inform ALL medical personal who take blood pressure. I was disappointed with the hygienist today. I didn't want to create a scene for the polite office ladies and patients, so I quietly left. Here's my issue: When I sat in the chair, she and an assistant took my blood pressure! Surprise? No hygienist has EVER done this in 40 years. She said mine is out of "their" range, and she can't clean my teeth, then sent me home! Really? I'm not having surgery, and she isn't my doctor. She wasted my time and theirs. Why didn't she get the dentist's opinion? .... he's a real doctor. Regardless of blood pressure, it is not for a hygienist to determine my health state as unacceptable. I was just at my PCP doctor yesterday and she said I'm fine! The hygienist will remember I said I designed the first auto blood pressure machines in 1976, so few people know more about BP machines than me. With education in medical school, medical patents, a degree in electrical engineering, having been a research director for Johnson & Johnson, and designed MANY hospital monitors, I far better understand my health conditions than a dental assistant. I even write my own BP prescriptions. I felt insulted. So for the staff .... if your policy is to screen blood pressure before cleaning teeth, then you are not my hygienist. That's unnecessary. Yes, I realize a great importance for a dentist whom might want to do this before dental work. That's ok. Medical & dental assistants EVERYWHERE, you should know how to use a simple BP device properly and understand cardiovascular dynamics if you screen patients. A. When I literally run into your office and say I've have been running 30 minutes from exercise, don't expect my BP to be normal when you take it as soon as I sit down. B. You took my BP twice in 3 minutes and 3 times in under 10 minutes. The cardiovascular system does not acclimate that fast to a resting state, especially older patients. Patients need at least 5 minutes, and ideally 10 minutes of rest. C. Your blood pressure monitor (I told you) is not good for this purpose. A $50 Omron monitor from CVS pharmacy is a bad choice for screening patients. Those monitors assume it is used on the same person. As such, they inflate 25 Torr (mmMg) higher than the highest value of previous readings from the past 20 or so patients. That alone puts unnecessary arm pressure and causes a patient to tense up and create as much as a 10-20 Torr higher systolic reading. Use a Welch Allyn clinical unit, not a home BP device. D. Know how to position the cuff. Don't place the transducer (sensor) on TOP of the arm (biceps). Proper procedure is to have a patient lay their arm with the palm upward and position the sensor inside the arm so it aligns with the little finger. That places the sensor directly over the brachial artery. Sensor misplacement can cause as much as a 10 Torr (mmHg) higher pressure. E. Don't hold a patient's arm. The hygienist said she sometimes gets a weird reading if not holding the arm.. This is wrong. A patient's arm should lay naturally relaxed. Raising the arm causes the systolic pressure to report higher because the cuff is not at heart level. BP monitors are designed to be more accurate this way. Many medical assistants do this wrong. F. Don't ask a patient questions while taking the BP. Let them sit quietly while the monitor records readings. Again, this can cause false readings. G. Lastly, have you heard of "White Coat Syndrome". It's a basic concept taught in medical school. Many people's blood pressure increases as much as 20% to 30% of normal during a doctor or dentist visit due to stress. It doesn't mean they have a problem. H. Schedule your elder patients later in the day when their BP is better if you are worried about it. Better yet, get rid of this screening, or let the patient sign a waiver. Don't just kick them out of the office. Other tips. Fix the appointment reminder system. It can't separate family members on the same plan and sends confusing emails to all members without saying who is scheduled. It drove my wife nuts. Further, there is no point to schedule a cleaning 6 months in advance just to call a week before the visit and change the date. Lastly, try to use a person to answer calls if possible; not an answering machine. Best wishes to the great doctor and staff, but the BP screening for a cleaning needs to go. read more

Worst dentist in history of dentist!! They told me that because I had 2 insurance my bridge was going to cost $200. Apparently they were too greedy to actually run the insurance and was pushing me to schedule for the procedure asap. Afterwards I recieved a $457 bill. While I was in the process of dealing with the insurance my daughter who was misdiagnosed on her first visit started having severe pain in her teeth. They refused to see her to help with the pain until I paid the $457. Once i paid they saw her and stated they did not know what was wrong and she needed to see a specialist. My 11 year old had her teeth cleaned and stated she did not want to go back because they were not Gental Dental with her. We now see Spanish Springs Modern dental, they took 1 look at her teeth and knew what was wrong and took care of it immediately. read more

I'm kicking myself for not researching the practice prior to my appointment...I would have never scheduled one in the first place. While the office staff and Dr were pleasant and professional, the hygienist was not and the fact that she is still employed by the facility makes me question the practice as a whole; this particular employee is referenced in several negative reviews. She had a miserable attitude, was rough and sloppy and clearly hated what she was doing. I was physically sick and terrified the entire time she was working and halfway through the cleaning I grabbed her hand to make her stop. She had been digging at the base of an implant as though she was trying to make it fall out. I told her I felt uncomfortable having her "in my mouth" and her response was, "Well, I don't feel comfortable either so it's a win-win." I have filed a grievance with my insurance company and a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

This is an amendment/replacement/update of my previous review. Dr. Cordova has gone over and above to correct and make amends for office issues that occurred prior to his arrival at this location. He has personally called me to apologize for the problems we had. He even took his personal time to investigate and corrected an issue the office staff should have handled. It is because of Dr. Cordova that we decided to give Gentle Dental a second chance. My husband has seen Dr. Cordova twice now and is extremely happy with the work done. He found Dr. Cordova to be both personable and professional. My husband was impressed with him taking the time to explain what was needed going forward and why. I will be seeing Dr. Cordova myself when I require dental care. Both Melissa and Charlene have apologized for the previous issues and how they were handled (the other staff is gone). I was assured that adjustments in training would be made to avoid these issues in the future. The previous issues included communication regarding insurance and out-of-pocket costs - office staff issues that should not reflect upon Dr. Cordova. read more

Worst Dentist Ever! If I could give "0" Stars, I would. I don't recommend this place to anyone. I should have known better when I went in for a routine cleaning on April 11th, 2019 & the hygienist Marsha was so aggressive & rough on my mouth, she gave me a Traumatic Ulcer due to her cutting my gums with her dental tools. Dr. Cardenas was SO unconcerned & aloof, it was astonishing. Dr. Cardenas gave me a prescription for a mouthwash to use until the Ulcer healed. I mentioned to Dr. Cardenas that in the 3 years I've been going to Gentle Dental, my Oral Health seems to be declining. He said, it's due to your age. I'm in my mid 40's and have NEVER had any major issues with my teeth, mouth or gums (I only have 1 filling). During my time with Gentle Dental, the hygienist Marsha decided to start a regimen pumping Arestin in a particular area in my mouth & never gave me an explanation as to why she was doing this. I have come to learn, that when administering Arestin, that a 2 week follow-up should be given with the patient. Gentle Dental NEVER followed up with me after administering Arestin on 3 separate occasions/appointments nor did they show any concern or care for doing so. After my horrific experience on April 11th, 2019 & a Traumatic Ulcer that needed healing, I spoke with the Office Manager who urged and convinced me to give them one more chance. She seemed more concerned about their ratings/reviews than she did me. She said she would change my hygienist to someone "gentler". I decided to give them another chance, mostly because of limited options I have with my Dental Plan/Network with my Insurance Company. I went to my next appointment on November 14th, 2019. The "gentler" hygienist was Jen. The minute I sat in her chair, there was immediate tension & attitude from her towards me. She was short with me & seemed completely inconvenienced with anything I said to her, right down to me asking for the usual sunglasses to wear during the examination. Jen started the appointment with the Periodontal Chart Measurements. She was shouting out my Chart Measurements to an assistant named Christian. During the Chart Measurements she measured "5mm's" on some areas on my gums/teeth. She then said to me, you need deep cleaning. I said, OK, can we do that today? She said, what do you want, your teeth cleaned OR deep cleaning, because I don't have time for both. I said, well, I'm here for a cleaning, so I guess cleaning. Jen then said, you have refused treatment. I said, I haven't refused anything, you said you don't have time to do both. I then asked her what the difference was between deep cleaning & having my teeth cleaned? At this time, Jen became more irritated and agitated than she was before. She started waving & pointing her sharp dental tools in my face & said, you need scaling & planing done which requires us to numb your mouth. I still didn't understand what any of this meant. I just wanted the dental tools out of my face & for the appointment to start moving forward. Finally, Jen began using her dental tools for what they are intended for, cleaning my teeth (NOT having them shoved in my face). She gave me a substandard teeth cleaning, avoiding certain areas in my mouth altogether. When she was finished, she shouted out to Christian (the assistant) to finish me up & polish me. I'm not sure Christian knows how to polish teeth. I mostly had Christian's hand crammed in my mouth & not all of my teeth got polished. I just wanted to get out of there & for the appointment to be over. Jen was the most unprofessional, disrespectful, uninformative, incompetent RUDEST person I have ever encountered in a Medical Facility/Setting. My experience with Jen was disgraceful to say the least. I've since changed Dentists in this weeks time. My new Dentist said I DON'T need deep cleaning/scaling/planing AT ALL. I also had NO 5mm's on my Periodontal Chart Measurements. They said my overall Oral Health is great. Gentle Dental completely misdiagnosed me, misled me, gave me incorrect information, unnecessary oral treatment & completely mistreated me as a person & a patient. I am filing a Grievance with my Insurance Company & a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I am appalled & astounded that a Dentist Office can continue conducting immoral & inadequate dental care to people who entrust them with an already sensitive issue. read more

Went in to make an appointment to get some repair work done yesterday. They made room for me then. I was in the office for almost 3 1/2 hours during which they extracted the root of a broken tooth, prepped the area for a four unit bridge, and put me out the door with my new temporary bridge. Totally changed the look of my smile for the better. During the whole process everyone down to the office staff kept checking on me to assure my comfort, both physically and emotionally. I am very happy with dental care I received and the thorough cleaning performed by the dental hygienist. However, I am disappointed in what I perceive is somewhat of a silent upswell. E.G. Full mouth X-rays are supposed to cost $25 for a new patient. Without any mention that there would be an extra charge, the assistant took a couple of camera snapshots of my teeth/mouth. I was charged $50 for this unnecessarily and un-expected 15-second session. Secondly, a cleaning is supposed to be $60. In my case there was an unexpected additional $40 to apply fluoride with a swab. No mention was made that there would be any additional charge for this, or I most certainly would have declined. In conclusion: I highly recommend this office for their dental care provided. I don't like the secret up-sell and lack of transparency. read more

I have dentist anxiety. I hate going. I'm also "new-ish" in town and picked this Gentle Dental branch -without personal recommendations- because of its location and good yelp reviews. I have been very impressed with the dental hygienists. The administrative/billing staff has been perfectly lovely as was the dentist during my initial visit. I am happy to leave a good review at this point. I have more dental work coming up in the near future so the journey isn't over yet, and I'll be following up with the end results. I'll tell you my experience over the last 18 months. First of all do not get attached to the staff. Except for the office management, every time that I've gone there for service, there is a different medical staff. I brush after every meal or snack and floss once a day. I've done that since I was 13 years old. Plus, I go to the dentist for cleanings every six months. I left my last dentist because she got greedy. Tried to tell me That I need my gums scraped on the lower OUTSIDE. Claimed possible "Gum Disease"??? I have no symptoms. The first dentist and DH at GD checked my gums and told me they were fine, My next 6 month visit a new dentist that made no mention of gum disease and gave me a thumbs up. My last 6 month visit, a new staff in the back and tried in my opinion to run a "Gum Disease Scam" on me. The DH wanted to inject me with an antibiotic on the INSIDE lower molar area at $35.00 a pop, so $70.00. I declined! The DH claimed that my gums were bleeding...false. I would know if I had bleeding gums. My opinion is that most dental offices are running this "Gum Disease Scam" to increase their income. OK, you've been alerted. Very welcoming atmosphere and the staff was super friendly. It was my first time coming here and the staff treated me exceptionally well. Went in for a cleaning and got some moldings done for a mouth guard since I grind my teeth at night; they called me the next morning to let me know when they would have my night guard ready. I Went to see doctor Jesse's Cardela something or other at this location and I don't know what I did to this person. We had a 5 minute conversation about things I needed in my mouth don...He got snippy with me and mad at me for asking a question more than one time...Which I didn't.. Even if I asked him 10 times im the customer he needs to make me understand... Maybe I didnt understand what he was saying....He was extremely arrogant and dismissive...I don't know how he is able to treat people like that and still being business.. Make sure you tell your staff not to treat people like this because it doesn't make any sense...I didn't insult him, call him any names, do anything to ask him a question and he had to ruin my whole day by being a smart ass...I don't like it and consider that before you go here cause he is extremely rude..I guess no one really complains about his attitude bcuz there scared of him but I WILL NOT BE TREATED LIKE TRASH FOR SOMETHING I DIDN'T DO..Pick ur battles..He definitely could of saved that fonky attitude for someone who deserved it... read more
