I have been a multi-year client of the Vista Dental office and the team deserves the "full 5 stars". This period includes Dr. Thomas and recently, the transition to Dr. Vong and Dr. Avendano. Bruna has been my routine hygienist and her technical skills are brilliant, top-notch. In particular, her ability to sonically clean and to measure my receding gums with the absolute minimum of discomfort speaks to her fabulous technique. In a joking fashion, sometimes I think she's just saying the numbers because there is no sensation while probing the gum line. Additionally, I want to mention Amber and Jada who filled-in for Bruna during a recent absence and they too, demonstrated a high level of technical skill and competence. More recently, I needed updates to 6 existing fillings and had been a little reluctant to have this work completed. Dr. Avendano and his assistant Crystal were "beyond my expectations". As a team, they were fast, efficient, and treated me in a manner that ensured I was comfortable before and during the procedure. Most impressive to me was Dr. A's ability to deliver anesthesia by needle with NO sensation of a needle prick. I was aware that he was working in my mouth to prepare for the procedure and then, "poof", the area was numb. No jab, no pin prick, no burning. His technique is incredible and I remained comfortable for the entire procedure. Should you be facing some over-due dental work, or are simply in need of an excellent hygienist, I would confidently recommend the team at Vista Dental. read more

The main staff at Vista Dental Care that run their operations, seem to have a hard time listening to their customers. I am in the IT field and could not help but notice how their data that they're trying to collect from me as excessive and they seem to have lost my data either through negligence or through a hack. I am not sure.. button either case that is a lot of data to lose on a patient. I no longer trust going to this location even though I have been there for many years they seem to have gone through a transition of ownership as well, and that seems to be where everything went south. Their hygienist are fine. It's just the people that run their business in their office. read more

The dental care here is phenomenal, unfortuantely the dentist here isn't. Weird behaviour, played therapist with me when I told him I was anxious about dental work which made my mental state worse, being on medicaid and out of state seem to get him on me a lot when he was doing said dental work knowing I couldn't say a damn thing. Was told multiple times my refund reference would be sent to the insurance to get my refund since i paid out of pocket and was lied to for 6 months after 3 calls, then told me they never sent it in after they said it was done. Upon my most recent visit with Bruna, she informed me of some new research regarding the use of my shower pick and provided me with some helpful information on how to take care of my gums the best way possible (I have a bacteria in my gums that will always be present, but Bruna is always helping me figure out ways to keep it at bay to help avoid damage to the bone) I do appreciate the time all of the staff takes to grow and learn as dental assistants, always absorbing new knowledge and passing it onto their patients. I always feel like they're on the cutting edge of science and technology and they're always staying updated and in the know on the absolute best way to take care of your teeth! read more

I did this review previously for just Dr. Thomas, thinking it was Vista Dental Care....however I felt it necessary to echo my comments under Vista Dental Care as well. Another great visit today and I didn't have any cavities! Woot!! I've been going to see Dr. Thomas for a few years now and I have to admit that I don't mind seeing the dentist anymore. The staff is incredible nice and always know something about you when you walk in the door, and not just your name. My appointments are always kept on time and I'm out in a reasonable amount of time. The hygienists are all great, especially Bruna who is engaging, kind and gentle...yeah! Office is very clean and the waiting room is nice along with free coffee/tea...although I rarely indulge because I go right in to my appointment! Great job! read more

I started coming here about a year ago. The staff are so friendly, the office is clean and inviting, and they have the newest and best in dental technology. I had some pretty expensive bills pile up (even after my insurance paid their part) and they did not hesitate to put me on a payment plan. So accommodating! It allowed me to get the services I needed in a way that wouldn't max out credit cards and savings accounts. They are also extremely accommodating when you need to change your appointment. I had my first appointment there today, and it was very pleasant. The front desk staff is extremely kind, polite, and helpful - I was greeted immediately and given all the information I needed. Good customer service is so rare these days, but these girls nailed it. My hygienist was Amber, and she was great. She was attentive and polite, but also to the point, which I like. Dr. Thomas was also nice and polite. Everyone was also kind to my 11 month old daughter who tagged along. It means a lot that they took the time to greet her, too, and not just ignore her. All staff seemed knowledgeable and willing to help. I would absolutely recommend Vista Dental to family and friends in the area. read more

This office is terrible. They lied to my face so many times saying I owed them money when my EOB clearly said I didn't. Even though I'd never met the office manager, she interrupted a question I was asking to the billing lady, referred to me by my first name in insulting tones and tried to intimidate and bully me into paying money I didn't owe. The office is HIGHLY manipulative - it is scary. EOBs don't lie. The money was not my responsibility and rather than just own that and say, "We made a mistake, we owe you money," and then write me a check, they tried to manipulate me into paying what I didn't owe. It's such a sad situation too because my hygienist, Genevieve, was awesome and I loved her, but there is no way I will walk back into this office ever again after being spoken down to (I cried in my car) and being lied to repeatedly. Check your EOBs, people, because Vista Dental Care has proven they will mail statements saying you owe them money when your EOB clearly says it's not your responsibility. read more

Wow!! This place is incredible. They are so friendly and helpful on the home, was able to get a new patient cleaning for me 2 days later and all paperwork is online so it is so easy. Loved their office with plenty of parking in a very nice shopping center. Easy access from vista! The office is so clean and nice, very kind and patient staff, clean, clean & very clean. Love the whole experience and was in and out in 45 minutes including x rays. So happy to find and incredible dentist and great location! Will be coming back for years to come. So I called this morning to reschedule today's appt due to inclement weather and the receptionist Mandy had the audacity to say well we are all here and there is a $50 fee. Are you kidding me? There is a fee cause of bad weather and I might not be able to make it and that little comment was rude. Not everyone lives in an area where it's plowed and maybe they all live areas that don't get much snow. Thank god today is not the day my mother in law also passed away cause I would of been charged a fee for a death in family. I think they need to take certain things into consideration with this fee. This is the only dental office I have ever been to that charges a fee to reschedule and I been to a lot here. This might be my last visit here today. read more

I made an appointment yesterday and understood that my debit card would be charged if I did not make my appointment or did not cancel it within 48 hours. My appointment was for February 23, 2022 and today is November 17, 2021. The very next day they had debited (pending) but still showed $50.00 against our account. They should not be holding our money that long. Seems like they are more concerned about the money than their new patients. Anything can happen in 4 months. I understand it's for their benefit and that people make appointments and do not show but if they had to book me that far out they must have plenty of patients and money without getting into my account the very next day. I understand it's a pending transaction. When I called back to cancel and discuss this with the receptionist she made all kinds of excuses and would not stop to listen to my point of view. She just kept talking through me which got me more upset so I don't feel comfortable with Vista Dental. If they had waited to use my debit card if I missed my appointment without cancelling, it would have been okay. read more

Had similar experience to Lauren S 's experience. New to Reno and at first and only appt was told my life long fear of dentistry was unfounded and I should seek psychiatric consultation. Found him very argumentative, as though he enjoyed the experience. Staff was very kind and efficient although there were hints I should have tuned in to, that this dentist was a bit "difficult" and somewhat arrogant. I'm extremely calm at the dentist but thought a true professional would want to be aware of a patient's dental fears, particularly when health questionnaire asks. Did not think it would be an opportunity for him to belittle me. Yea I'm done, found a wonderful dentist nearby where I'm free to ask questions and I'm treated with respect, thats where I will spend my $, thank you! read more

I never wait for long until my awesome dental hygienist, Bruna, whisks me away to begin my 6 month cleaning. She is the most amazing person ever, and I feel very much cared for as a person and client. She takes her time with me, explains what she is noticing, and is so very caring in her feedback to keep up the flossing (which I'm horrible at!) This is the best dental office I've ever been to and I've been to alot! Dr. Thomas takes his time to explain each procedure, why it's necessary and the cost of the procedure. His staff is absolutely wonderful! They're friendly and extremely knowledgeable. As soon as you walk in the door, you know everyone likes working there and they're glad you're their patient. The focus of the office is to get your teeth healthy and keep them healthy. There's no guilt trips or harassing -- just gentle reminders and techniques on how to help you keep your teeth throughout your whole life. I'm a big baby and have a real problem with needles and shots. Dr. Thomas acknowledges this and has made my visits as comfortable as possible. It takes a lot of novocaine to numb me and Dr. Thomas noted this and takes the time to completely numb me so I truly feel no discomfort during any of the procedures. They bought a special topical numbing cream so my teeth cleaning is the most comfortable I've ever received. I highly recommend this office. I've referred several people to Vista Dental and they all agree with me -- best dental office they've ever been to! read more

Our military family had been patients of Dr. Thomas for years. When the Tricare Retiree Dental Plan (TRDP) closed out and mandatorily switched us to the MetLife Federal Dental Plan (FEDVIP), we called to confirm that Dr.Thomas accepted this plan as in-network provider and were told by his front office staff that he did. So, my wife, a veteran U.S. Navy Nurse, went for her semi-annual cleaning and exam and was surprisingly charged $143 cash at checkout. Dr. Thomas is NOT an in-network provider for military veterans or military retirees. This was not revealed until AFTER services were rendered. read more

I am fairly new to the area and was a little nervous about finding a dentist office I liked. Prior, I had been with the same dentist for over 3 decades- since I was a baby and I loved him and his hygienist. Saw the reviews on Yelp and gave them a call for a routine cleaning. They were able to get me in within a couple weeks. Fast forward to appointment, I didn't have a sitter for my almost 2 year old so I had to haul her with me. From the moment I walked in, Audrey was so warm and accommodating. Amber was my hygienist and was friendly and did an awesome job getting some staining off my teeth. Dr. Thomas had a great sense of humor, super laid back, and made me feel at ease. My daughter is not quiet by any means and was a little nervous by the sounds of the tools- each time one of the other hygienists and Audrey would try to distract her with coloring supplies, going to the prize box etc... they didn't have to do that but they did and it made me feel less inadequate. My family have used Dr Thomas for about 7 years now. His staff is phenomenal, billing and insurance is spot-on 100% accurate, and they do write off a lot of their charges. Had Tricare when we first started using him, and they adjusted the bill often, probably more than they were obligated to, because Tricare sucks. Dr Thomas is a first rate dentist. He may have OCD, because I can count on him to find issues before they become expensive, and his fixes are done right, always perfectly administered. I love him for that! If you want first rate dental care, a knowledgeable Doctor who stays up on trends and procedures to offer the BEST dental care available, and a competent and experienced staff who are really looking out for you AND your budget, then this is the place to go. Be forewarned - Bedside manner is not his thing! If your sensitive to straightforwardness, and you have medical issues that require him getting into your medical history/business so he can safely treat you, then by all means, PLEASE find someone else to treat you. The rest of us want his amazing skill, concern, and reasonable prices and need those available appointments. FYI I was not paid or compensated with services for this review! I am always satisfied with Vista Dental with Dr. Thomas and all his crew. You are treated with respect, understand and care. The visit I had on Jan 22 was an emergency kind! After brushing my teeth, I tried to let a small leftover food that the bush did not remove. Flosses did not help so I went between my tooth and the bridge! To my surprise the bridge just popped out! Frantically I called for an appt. and was there at 10 am the same day. The doctor checked it out and told his assistant Patrick to make a temporary bridge. Now they have the capability to make this bridge in house, the one I had was sent outsourced to another company. I was so happy that Vista Dental will make the new bridge and I won't have to wait for weeks to get my bridge! All the necessary xrays, the measurements were taken and I was out of there less than 2 hrs with a temp bridge. My appt. for new bridge was scheduled for Feb. 1! The temp bridge fit much better than the the bridge I had. Unfortunately, again on Wed. morning them temp bridge popped out. I got the appt to fix this for 3 pm the same day! To my surprise my new permanent bridge was already finished that morning. So instead of getting the temp bridge I had my new one put in! I was so thankful to Patrick for doing such a fast and excellent work he had done. My new bridge fit like a glove and love it. So, my day ended in a very happy note. Everyone that works at Vista Dental are so talented, knowledgeable, caring people. From the front desk you are greeted by name, which makes one feels special, all the assistants are the same way towards all their patients. Dr. Thomas is also very knowledgeable about his work, knows what has to be done and tells you the way it is! I appreciate it and thankful for his honesty. I will never go to another dentist office as long as I live. It is also so close to my home, less than a mile, who could ask for more??? Dr. Thomas is the absolute worst dentist I've ever dealt with. He spent more time worrying about and attempting to understand my non-dental medical history (which is fully under control through my primary care physician) than he did looking at or worrying about my teeth. He also said that he "wasn't qualified to make this diagnosis" so he "wasn't going to check the box" that said I was obese, and then told me to "not take that the wrong way" because he was overweight too. (All this despite the fact that he knew neither my height nor my weight.) He recommended that I pay $300 for a sleep study despite the fact that the sheet HE GAVE ME indicated that I was an extremely low risk for sleep apnea, and I came in with no complaints that would lead him to think that it was something that even needed to be thought about. Additionally, he suggested that my (somewhat complex) medical history was a result of my psychological diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The appointment, despite the fact that my teeth were absolutely fine and all I needed was a cleaning, took over an hour because of these extraneous, unnecessary and unfounded "concerns" on the part of Dr. Thomas. Although the staff (dental hygienist, receptionist, etc.) were very nice, Dr. Thomas himself was completely out of line, making suggestions and conjectures that had absolutely nothing to do with dentistry and no basis in fact. I will NEVER be returning to his practice. read more

$365 for one hour work. No anesthetic. Nothing but disassemble and reassemble an implant. I was told by the dentist it would be $200 and the office added $165 for an x-ray and an exam on an implant I told them was loose. The dentist told me AFTER he drilled through the porcelain that it could eventually chip. Within two weeks the implant crown chipped on a ham sandwich and lost about 20% of the surface. So now I have a $365 bill and a crown that is broken. Happy the tooth is in properly but unhappy with result and bill. read more

Although I love the rest of the staff, Dr. Thomas himself has been incredibly rude and unprofessional to me on several occasions. I went to him to have a crown replaced. He was so rough while doing it that my mouth was covered in sores that took weeks to heal. Then, I was experiencing pain in the tooth he worked on so I went back in multiple times, but never got any relief. When working on my mouth during several of these subsequent visits, he was incredibly rude to the point that one time he actually roughly grabbed me by the mouth because I was having trouble getting my jaw to move the way he wanted me to. He spoke to me and his staff like a drill Sargent. He insisted that the problems with my new crown were because I all of a sudden started grinding my teeth???? And not because of his poor work. He actually had the nerve to ask me if maybe I was grinding my teeth because I was mad at my husband??? This guy is a lunatic and completely unprofessional. Nearly two years later, I still have problems with this tooth and have developed TMJ because of it. read more
