I would rate them negative if Yelp Provided that opportunity. they will fraudulently charge your credit card and NOT SHOW UP. We "hired" them to move us at the beginning of Feb 2024. They never showed and never called. WE called them and Arthur assured us that they would come the next day. GUESS what? THEY DIDN"T SHOW!! DO NOT HIRE - They strategically named themselves similar to a reputable moving company. A move is difficult and involves a lot of coordination. You will be sadly disappointed if you hire this firm. I had 2 movers, Diego and DeAngelo, and they did a great job. The 3 of us hustled, and moved, packed, and wrapped up a 2 BR, and got unloaded in a day. No damage to items. I would use those particular 2 movers again! read more

For so many reasons, please DO NOT WORK with the Hyde Park office. My company hired Gentle Movers to hoist a new fridge up to the second floor and bring down the old one. (For a client.) The angle and the space provided made it challenging. And I'm not negating that this was a difficult job. But how they handled it was disheartening, unprofessional, and extremely overwhelming. POOR COMMUNICATION - Despite numerous attempts at getting the contract before the move date, we did not receive it until I was on my way to the job - Contacted us at 3:00 pm to say they were 1 hour out but did not show up until approximately 5:30 because the movers were given a break. I sat for over for 1.5 hours waiting for them to show up. - Deposit and quote were for 2 hrs. When we asked the operation person how long, he said, "2 hrs or maybe a little over that". I was never informed that because of the job difficulty, it would take anywhere near 4.5 hours. We went from being charged $900 to over $1800 with little conversation. LACK OF PREPARATION - Asked en route to the job if we wanted a 4th mover. We said no because no one ever said they needed the 4th mover to do the job! - 4th mover showed up anyway. But thankfully, he did because he ended up directing the whole job. No one else seemed to have the experience to figure out the logistics. - They took over 1.5 hrs to figure out how to do the job, which should have been something done before the day of the job. - We provided pictures and videos of the work area to ensure they had ample time to create a plan. We even asked if anything else was needed for the job, and the operations person, said no. CAVALIER WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY - It took as long as it did because only one person had the experience to do the job! I know this because I heard the workers talking about it. - why should we pay the same rate for the movers to figure out the logistics, as it doesn't do the physical labor? ($339 per hour for three movers, per hour, shouldn't be the same as one mover to figure out the logistics.) LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM - The movers were highly unprofessional. - Too much lag time. I assume that since only one person knew what to do, I paid for the remaining three individuals to stand around until they were told what to do. - Utilized the N-word many times while communicating with each other. And as a woman of color, it was extremely uncomfortable! I hesitated to say anything because I was apprehensive about the outcome with the four men. I needed the job completed, but no customer should ever feel like that! LACK SAFETY PRECAUTIONS - During the first leg of the hoist, one of the movers injured themselves. This caused an additional delay because they did not have a first aid kit, and I had to locate bandages for his hand. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - When I contacted them about the issues today, I was met with resistance to understanding my point of view. It boiled down to how long it took and that we signed a contract. But there were so many missteps, and they seemed fine with how this unfolded. There are so many other points that can be made, but I think this is enough to make the point. We have worked with various moving companies and have never experienced anything like this. And to be made to feel as if they did everything right is just maddening. THEFT ALERT! DO NOT USE This FRAUDULENT operation. The definition of terrible! "Alex" - was the point of contact and mover/driver. The issues were endless...rude, malicious and deceptive...the most horrific of part is being robbed of several hundred dollars. First....they Changed rate from what was agreed (50) to (70). 2. Asked me to pay an extra $100 deposit before they even loaded any items. I refused. 3. Tried to charge 7 hours ($490) + $100 gas & toll + transport fee of $100 for for a job that took 3 hours. 4. Refused to unload the moved items from truck without "Ransom" payment. 5. Agreed & confirmed to return to the home to complete the unfinished move and NO SHOWED after charging. He literally speed off in the truck with the stolen money. This business needs to be investigated shut down and prosecuted. read more

I am surprised there are so many negative reviews. The movers were excellent. They helped me pack the last boxes and loaded a large truck with many boxes and a lot of furniture very quickly, The unpacking went well. They help me reassemble furniture. Things were stacked a bit high but nothing was broken, just a bit hard to find everything. It was far from major problem. I will definitely recommend this company to others . read more

Not the same company They have no offices so you can't talk with anybody in person if you have a problem, only email and if you're annoying enough, the phone. The movers are nice local guys, but the owners are shady. Make sure you have everything clearly explained and written down and double confirmed. Absolutely terrible sham of a company. My mother passed away and it has already been a long and emotional journey. Her tab has been paid and is up to date. But when I went to pick up her stuff I'm now being forced to pay almost 800$ for a mandatory group of movers to move her items to a loading dock. We didn't need this as we had a group of family to help us. But of course we are being forced to use their movers, when it's listed on their page as an "option"... read more

We used Gentle Movers recently for our move. The sales people were very helpful and friendly. They even called during the move to see how things were going. They quoted us $144 an hour, which was cheaper than other ones we received. The three guys did a great job, and worked quickly. Over all a great move! read more

If you ever want to make your moving day any more HORRIBLE and STRESSFUL than it already is, hire Gentle Movers. I'll break down some of the many reasons why: - They showed up 5-6 hours after their estimated arrival time - Before loading my boxes, they raised the total price from the original quote of ~$600 to $1700. They also suddenly demanded that we present this amount to them in a money order on a Friday at 7pm (when banks were closed), which meant we had to run around frantically to ATMs and grocery stores to get this amount in cash so we could turn it into the money order. Meanwhile they sat around waiting for the money, wasting time. - They demanded even more money before they would unload the van, threatening to impound our possessions if we didn't pay up, so we wrote them a separate check. - By the time they began unloading, it was nearing midnight, so my roommate and I ended up carrying up boxes ourselves anyway to make it all end sooner. It was a terrible moving experience, and I broke down crying a few times during the night - I wish it had occurred to me to call the police on them! We later looked Gentle Movers up on the Better Business Bureau and found they had the worst record and most complaints of all moving companies. NEVER use them!! read more

My wife had hired this company to move us from Lunenburg to Newton. We ordered a 26 foot truck for September 29th. My wife used our credit card to make a deposit payment in advance for $328.00. The sales representative who took our deposit payment told us that their crew would arrive at 9:30 A.M. to start loading the truck. On the day of the scheduled move we had all of our belongings packed in anticipation for the 9:30 arrival. The problem is that Gentle Movers never showed up at 9:30, in fact, they never showed up at all. To put the cherry on top of the experience, when we called up to figure out if the company would fulfill their contact we got the complete run-around. They brushed it off like nothing was an issue. This company didn't even have the decency to call and let us know that they were not going to fulfill their service contract. This company is a complete piece of crap. I have still not received a refund despite calling multiple times. read more

Wow! What a scam! At least their storage division. Getting my property back was a living hell. I'm not even sure I got all my property back. Now I find out the reason I can't find my $500 or $700 camera is because in all likelihood someone on their staff rifled through my property to find something of value & hit a goldmine in my camera. I'd give them 0 stars if that was an option. They showed up 2 hours late for the 1st move of the day, with a 48 foot truck that couldn't fit down our street. They then came back with a 12 foot truck that took them 3 trips to move me. It took them 9 hours to move my 1,200 sq foot house a 1/2 mile down the road. Even after complaining, they refused to even credit me any money. It was a complete cluster! Please stay away from these guys. read more

I normally don't post negative reviews, but this experience was so bad it felt warranted. I'm also exhausting every possible avenue of attempting to get Gentle Movers to refund almost $400 they overcharged me and agreed by phone to refund. I used Gentle Movers when I had to move this past December with very little notice. The moving company I'd used several times in the past and always had a great experience with (Raimond's) was booked. Gentle Movers overcharged me by almost $365.45 for several items including inflating the number of hours worked, a higher hourly rate than quoted, supplies that were included in the hourly rate, a broken fan they agreed to replace, and garment boxes I'd asked to purchase but the movers took with them. They also seemed to take their time, and the move took twice as long as any time I've moved with Raimonds (this is my third move in three years). Gentle Movers agreed by phone to refund my credit card but months later (after multiple calls and emails) they still have still not issued a refund. I've opened a dispute with my credit card and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.. still waiting for a response. I'll update this review if Gentle Movers does respond and/or issue a refund. read more

We hired Gentle Movers to move us out of our townhouse that we were selling in Saugus to a rental home in Peabody. We asked for four men and two trucks for our move. We had a horrible experience with this company and are disturbed by the that lack of professionalism, customer service response, and excessive bill we had received from them. We were told the men would be dispatched from Revere and the men were dispatched from South Boston. When the movers arrived they told us that our bill would be adjusted for the distance. It was not. Two of the movers got into a full out fist fight rolling around on our living room floor. My husband had to be one of the men breaking them up. We have a toddler who was not in the room at the time however he could have easily been there. As a parent this is horrifying. We should have called the police but we didn't. We regret not doing so. We contacted the manager of Gentle Movers regarding the fight and he simply said he was sorry. He did not offer any reasonable resolution to rectify the issue. Two of the men had the audacity to ask if they were still getting a tip after the fight occurred. Their truck also died in our driveway and needed to be jumped. My husband gave them jumper cables to get their truck going. This took a while to resolve which we were charged for. They dragged out the job throughout the day taking many long breaks. It should have been done hours prior. We have a three bedroom townhouse. They charged us for 14.5 hours worth of work which included their long breaks, the fight they got into in our home, and the delay due to the truck not starting. We had already prepaid for two hours ($460) when we paid the deposit. This was not accounted for in the updated invoice we received. The movers caused damage to several walls at our previous property that needed to be repaired. Two of the movers were asking us if they could call a buddy they know to come over to fix the damages themselves since their hourly rate would go down due to the damages. We said, "no" and contacted the management. They did send out a contractor to fix the damages. The next day we were contacted by the woman who bought the townhouse from us to let us know the damages were still visible and needed to be fixed again. We contacted Gentle Movers to get in touch with the new owner regarding this issue and they failed to do so. She had to hire her own contractor and we paid for the supplies she needed for the repairs of damage that Gentle Movers caused. The movers were constantly banging furniture and repositioning/removing items from the truck due to poor placement. This took excessive time. It started to snow in the afternoon and several of our items were left out in the snow uncovered for a long time. In the evening when the men took their 1.5 hour excessive break. Three men went on a break and left one man behind. He could not do much since he needed someone else to move heavy items with. That man ended up cutting himself with his own utility knife on his thumb and had substantial bleeding. We helped him with the bleeding and told him he should stop moving items. He continued to do so and got his blood on our floors and several of our child's items he was moving. We had to throw those items out. We explained to the movers throughout the day exactly where our furniture needed to go. A lot of the items were placed in the wrong spots of the house which wasted a lot of time since they to be moved again. They also did not provide us with all of the hardware for our sons crib that they dissembled at our previous location so we could not put his crib back together. Our son is sleeping in a pack n play currently. We had to contact the baby furniture company to reorder the hardware which will cost us $80. Several times boxes that were stacked on top of each other fell off the moving dolly during the move. The movers did not check the boxes for damage. The boxes said " fragile and do not stack"on them. The boxes were immediately put into the basement with the other items so don't know which boxes were dropped and the potential damage. When the job was done they delayed calling into dispatch to let them know the job was complete and get the final total for us. Again, stalling because they get paid hourly. We contacted the manager several times to address all of these issues. He kept saying he would take care of things and that we would be satisfied with the compensation. The total bill was $3487.47. The refund they offered us for all of the damages, delays, movers excessive breaks, distance adjustment, and fight it our home was $517.50. This is inappropriate compensation. We have never seen such unprofessionalism and lack of customer service in all of our lives. They should be ashamed of themselves and investigated. Even with all of the issues that occurred we bought all of the movers lunch, bottles of water/soda, and gave them all a tip. One of the movers was good. read more

Does anyone know who the current owner of Gentle Movers is and how to contact that person? I had a horrific experience with this company today. They showed up after loading the truck with my belongings from storage. Two guys began moving my items right away the third person sat in the truck for 45 minutes then proceeded to tell me I needed to wire transfer money for my move before they would move anything else. I have only a bed and a couch with no cushions in my home. I called the person I set up the move with he said this was standard practice to wire money and if the move cost less they would reimburse me. No. No. NO. Gentle Movers took advantage of me and my roommate. We were a couple of girls trying to move from our two apartments to a new one. The guy on the phone was all nice when I booked the appointment, and he told me that they'd be at my place first thing in the morning-- like 6 or 7 am. They arrived at 4pm. Yes, 9 hours after they said they would. Then, although the guy on the phone took all three addresses (mine, my roommate's, and our new one), the actual truck driver got upset when we told him about the second stop at my roommate's apartment. After some grumbling, they set off to the second location which was a 5 minute WALK. We were worried that they'd beat us (since we didn't have a car and were walking) and have to wait around doing nothing, but after 15 minutes and no truck we called the dispatch number wondering where they were. Completely not helpful, the dispatch guy took my request as a complaint and after fumbling around for another 45 MINUTES they demanded a money order. The workmen wouldn't move their truck until they saw the money order, but they did load up all my roommate's possessions as I scrambled around Davis square on a Friday night trying to get the $1800 they demanded. I felt like a criminal running from one ATM to another (which is useless by the way - you can only take out so much in a single day total from any ATM). We finally got the money together, but because it took longer than it took them to load the truck, they demanded more money. The money order was for a set amount, but the driver so graciously said that we could write them another personal check. All the while, the driver kept repeating, "I'm a religious man, I'm a religious man, I wouldn't cheat you, I'm a religious man." Religion my foot. The dispatch people were even worse, and they kept threatening to impound our things and then charge us rent for storing them. Yes, you read that correctly, rent. We were completely helpless and these bastards took advantage of us. I wish I had called the police. They used extortion to get more money and harrassed us. It was just me, my female roommate and my little greek mother, and we were easy pickings for these guys. DO NOT USE GENTLE MOVERS. I actually felt violated after this experience. I've never had such a terrible moving experience in my life. My roommate and I hired movers to move both of us and store our things over night for Aug 31st to Sept 1st. We looked through several companies and this one came to us highly recommended. The beginning was pleasant enough, but let me break down why I will never use them again: - Movers took a break on Aug 31st and the company CHARGED US FOR IT. - Overcharged on Sept 1st, as apparently they have a 4 hour minimum, mind you the movers were only there for 2 hours. If we had known that we never would have helped them move our stuff to try and save a few bucks. - We called the following day and the manager Marwan ignored my roommates emails and phone calls. I called and Marwan transferred me the first time to accounting and the second time to customer service. (Apparently he cannot be bothered to right his wrongs.) - Multiple phone calls and emails to get a few pennies back. Accounting gave us some $ back for the over charge after we sent them all our email logs with Marwan and proved that we were not told, but for some reason they have some rule that they cannot refund more than that. I'm sorry WHAT?! These are your mistakes NOT mine. Fix it. - Charged for paper and packaging of our furniture. (No where was this mentioned in any email or phone call or I would have been glad to comply.) - Lost an air conditioner, damaged a mattress and some shelves and desks.( I understand these are the hazards of moving and we were more than happy to let it go but with everything that happened we just couldn't ) - They also charge you for the time it takes them to get from their previous job to you, and the from you to the next job or the yard which is RIDICULOUS. This company loves to give you the run around, nickle and dime you, and make it difficult to work with them by any means. The worst part is their customer service. I work for a company that prides itself on putting the customers first and this company definitely does NOT. The only positive experience are the moving men they hire. I scheduled a move for the last Saturday in September for 5 rooms. I had 3 movers and a truck because I would need help in packing. The movers came and moved out the big items and they did take several boxes, but didn't help in packing. I was told these movers were professional and would be available to me until the move was complete. I felt they rushed through the move and the supervisor wanted to leave before the job was done. They were here for a total of 5 1/2 hours and I ended up paying them $1,300. The problems. 1) One of the movers stole a bottle of perscription medication. The bottle of pills were in a bag of other pills that the thief had to look through in order to find them. Also, the bag was on a table they weren't even moving. Although I got the bottle of pills back, there were several pills missing. 2) The move was not complete. I ended up having to hire other people in order to finish moving. This ended up costing me almost another $1,000. The company knew there was a problem because I called them up to complain about the missing pills and the move itself. I used these guys while I was apartment shopping. They were actually very kind and accommodating. My problem came when I put down a $200 deposit on a place. I didn't complete the application process and told them I wanted to pull out. I was told I'd get my money back if I didn't get approved or if I decided I didn't want it before my application was processed and approved. It has been two weeks since then and I still don't have my money. I've called them about ten times and they haven't returned my calls. They are HORRIBLE! when I moved they said they were 10 min away. They showed up 1 hour later because they got lost. I helped them load the truck and I as a 105 pound girl did more than the two guys that had come. After we loaded the truck I was having them help me put it in storage but because they were so late I was unable to enter the storage unit and had to store it with them since I was leaving town the next day. When I returned and went to se my things in there storage they had BROKEN many of my things. They also never would send me my bill and then charged me for late fees. I have never in my life work with such a horrible company. They never would return my phone calls. I had to go in person to get something done or get an answer. I had a horrific experience with this company. After booking them for a 9AM move, they didn't show up after claiming that dispatch called my house and didn't receive an answer -- my home phone was of course disconnected and their contract said nothing about dispatch calling before the crew would arrive. I had given the salesperson my cell phone # but he apparently didn't pass that along. The dispatcher was rude beyond belief and treated me like I shouldn't be upset. Amazing. They finally showed up with two guys (instead of the 3 I ordered) in a rental truck 4 hours late. 4 hours after that another two guys finally showed up to help. None of the guys had the specific skills that were promised to me (hoisting of large items out of windows). I had to plan the hoist maneuver myself and tell the guys what to do and where to go. Shockingly I was then charged an extra $100 hoisting fee (robbery) that I was never initially informed of. With one item (a recliner) the guys claimed that it couldn't fit down the stairs so I proceeded to carry it down myself. They were flabbergasted and I was disgusted. At one point in my apartment the guys just started standing around, requiring me to ask them to get moving again -- of course they were tired but I'm paying almost $200/hour for them. They didn't bring food or drinks for themselves so of course they were tired. There was absolutely no leadership to be found anywhere. Two huge chips were taken out of our nice furniture but their insurance did not cover anything because we live in an apartment with a tight staircase. I could go on -- it supposedly took them nearly an hour to drive from Hyde Park to my house (total BS) in Jamaica Plain. The guy who calculated my bill at the end of the move had only a few English words (not an exaggeration) and just showed me the final number (way high) without explaining the breakdown. The movers were so so so slow and looked like they were doing some favour by moving my stuff.. they complained every 5 sec when all I moved was stuff for 1 bedroom.. They chared me more number of hours and rate per hour than comitted. They change their rates without even informing you. Don't ever give them your credit card details.. I used Gentle Movers for a move last October from Massachusetts to New Hampshire and it was a nightmare. Frankly, I had suppressed the memory of the experience until I just got a spam email from them. Once the memories came flooding back I realized I should post a review for the unwary. I booked them weeks in advance of my move, yet on the day of the move they did not show. I should also note that although I received a confirmation email, no one ever gave me a quote. I kept calling the dispatcher, who I actually felt bad for because he clearly had nothing to do with it, and kept getting promises that the office would call me back. The office person then retook all my information, despite having a reservation, and tried to re-charge the minimum to my credit card even though they are already charged me weeks before. My suspicion was that they had no reservation, but didn't want to tell me that. This took hours of phone tag because they kept promising to call me back, but not actually following through. I was expecting them to be there first thing in the morning, and by 5pm I finally got an acknowledgment that they would not be coming that day. Instead, they promised me that they would have a team to my place first thing in the morning. The movers did come first thing in the morning the following day. I cannot dispute that the movers themselves did a fine enough job. In hindsight, I think they really needed a third guy to load the truck while the other guys brought stuff down. I packed everything myself and took everything apart, but it still took about 5 hours to empty my one bedroom apartment. There was a smidge of damage to one item that was not properly covered, but I decided to overlook it because I was tired of dealing with the company. The movers told me that they were not supposed to work that day, and that they were routinely called in on their days off to appease upset customers. They further explained that the company schedules too many moves per day for each set of movers which results in regular no shows. In fact, my move took so long that they ended up jilting another customer who had been scheduled for that day. Ultimately, I think the business is poorly run and doesn't value its customers. I can even say that is based not only on my experience, but on the word of its employees. Frankly, they didn't even do anything for me on account of the missed appointment. You can almost certainly do better with a different company. read more

As there was a snowstorm coming that weekend I spoke to the rep about making a decision on the day before re timing of the move and he agreed. As the day prior approached I called the rep and left a voicemail to make sure we were scheduled for 11am on the Sunday, never got a call back. On Sunday the storm came later then expected so I emailed and called the rep (no answer) to let him know we would need to move this to 1pm. I called the main office as well at 8:30am and finally got a "manager" who said the 1pm move time was fine and the movers would call me before (about 12:30) to confirm. The movers never called and at 1:30pm when they still were not here - we called. The "manager" i spoke with that morning said " They should be there, here is there cell, lets both call to find out why they are not at your address". I called and he called but no one could find the movers!!! Finally at 4pm a subcontractor showed up (after I called the office and my reps phone (he never picked up or called me back)) and he moved the three pieces of furniture. They refused to remove the boxes as they didn't see that in the contract, so I had to move 60 boxes that night to the recyclying . I emailed the rep and informed him how horrified I was with the service - it was a blizzard and I had a six week old infant with me. So I had to rally up some family and friends to help empty the truck. THe next day,Monday, I thought at least the rep or the company would call to apologize, nope. I called them at mid-day and spoke to the manager who said she would call back after she researched. She never called back. The rep called at 2pm and apologized and said it was the first he was hearing of it - really - he didn';t check his phone for 32hrs and didn't read the emails? Then he said " we are in agreement that you will pay at least the deposit, as you did book the movers, correct? that is $168." I almost lost it - he wnated me to still pay for halfthe moving costs because I booked them and they never showed and a replacement team showed up three hours late. Very disappointed. I was given an estimate and it was doubled for moving just one piece of furniture. The office manager could not or would not provide supporting documentation. Quote was far different from the final bill. I tried to discuss with them and my phone calls and emails have gone unanswered. My experience was similar to Manny P. I intend to follow up with BBB and AG. Very misleading. read more

I hired Gentle Movers to help us move into our new, fourth floor condo; our move was a local, intra-Boston move. The Gentle Movers team worked quickly, efficiently, and carefully to move our stuff from our storage unit, into their truck, and then from their truck into our new condo. All four movers were courteous and worked hard; our team wasted little time even though we hired them hourly. No one complained about the stairs, even when they had to move our extremely big and heavy tempurpedic king mattress up 3 narrow stairwells. I would definitely hire Gentle Movers again. I should note, that the only surprise of our moving day came when the team lead called in the morning to confirm the time he would meet us and that we were moving into a 4th floor walk-up. When I verified this information he stressed the importance of bringing a fourth man. Although I had agreed to hire 3 men, he emphasized that his 10+ years of moving experience told him that in our situation (a fourth floor walk-up) a fourth man would save us time and money even if it cost us slightly more per hour. I am glad I listened and agreed to hire the fourth mover. Although initially annoyed at what I felt was an upsell, the team lead proved that he knew how to move and that his experience was correct--the fourth man saved me time and money. read more

This is absolutely the worse moving/storage company in Boston. Me and my roommate have had an awful experience with them. We scheduled our move on June 29th and I was told the movers would call me at 7am to give me a time window for when they would come. By 3 pm I still had not heard from them and my phone calls kept getting ignored and I had a flight that afternoon. Luckily, a friend of mine was able to let the movers in when they finally arrived at SEVEN pm. -They charged me 2,000 dollars for the move, apparently it took them nearly 8 hours to move all of our stuff into their truck (2 bedroom small apartment). and they LEFT 2 small boxes behind. -I tried to complain and get some of my money refunded, as their pricing was unreasonable, but they were impossible and would not follow up with me. -We also provided the company with both mine and my roommates card information so they could split it, but apparently that was even too difficult for them since they charged the whopping amount just to my card. -Now they charge us 400 dollars for monthly storage (when we were originally told it would range from 150-200) -This month they never sent us the receipt to pay and now they are trying to charge us a late fee. There are no words to explain what an AWFUL company this is, I don't understand how they can run a business and be okay with providing such TERRIBLE service to their customers. Its impossible to contact them, nobody ever answers the phone, the lady in charge of accounting can barely speak/understand English and everybody else I've spoken to has been rude and extremely unhelpful.
