We were referred to Dr. Beth by South Paws Animal Hospital, after it became clear that there was little left that we could do for our little kitty. She had either large cell lymphoma or carcinoma (was inconclusive) but either way it was really bad at the end. Dr. Beth has the knowledge to help you understand what is happening, the compassion to guide you through it, and the kindness to come out to our place at some inconvenience to herself (last minute, outside regular hours, etc). I loved that she gave us special family time with our girl as we went through the steps of the at home euthanasia. I loved that she said some words of gratitude for her as she passed, almost like a mini memorial service. It was painful, it is painful, but I don't think I could have asked for a better person to lead us through an extremely difficult decision. I see sad photos of animals here. Our boy Jake developed Degenerative myelopathy (DM) and had reached a point where his quality of life was severely degraded. He could no longer walk on his own and had become incontinent. This was very distressing for us and for him because he was obviously still aware and alert but could not comprehend why these changes were happening to him. The Dr. made an unbelievably difficult time as comfortable and peaceful for me and my dog as possible.

We found Dr. Beth Badgett when our cat took an extremely sudden turn for the worse. Lap of Love, whom we have used before, were booked 2 days out, and as we found ourselves at around 5pm, other at-home services were closed or closing for the day. As our cat was always anxious at the vet, we wanted to avoid going to an all-hours clinic if possible, to minimize trauma to all involved. Dr. Beth was comforting on the phone, and the moment I mentioned that our cat was having some labored breathing, she told me to "say no more!" and asked for our details and started to get packed up. She advised us on medications we had on hand that we were to give our cat to keep her as comfortable as possible in the meantime. Dr. Beth was at our home within about 90 minutes, I applaud her for the fact she was able to come so quickly. Our cat declined so fast that she passed before Beth's arrival. Our cat had cancer in her chest, had had fluid surrounding her lungs, and had recently had surgery for mass removal that we hoped would slow the fluid build up. We had been warned by the ICU doctor at the time that should she begin to decline, it would likely be quite rapid, which it unfortunately was. Even having dealt with two other pets passing in the past two years, this was still surprisingly swift. After her arrival, Dr. Beth took some time with our kids to explain and show them some stuff, helped us collect a fur clipping, and then took our cat for aftercare. Once her ashes are ready, we will also receive a paw print in clay, and an ink print as mementos. We have used Lap of Love besides Dr. Beth for end-of-life care, and Dr. Beth is definitely more expensive. However, what we got for that extra cost was someone who basically dropped what she was doing to come to our house as soon as she could, and whose availability is more extensive, which we appreciated greatly. Like so many others have stated, Dr. Beth is amazing and is an angel looking out for our fur babies. Our 6.5 year old golden, Kairi, was diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumor in August. He had been receiving chemotherapy to try to fight it. When we noticed Kairi didn't seem like himself, we took him to the emergency vet and found out his cancer had spread. We decided to bring him home and spend what little time he had left together. We reached out to Dr. Beth that night and heard back shortly after. I couldn't believe how quickly we heard back given that it was a Friday night! I ended up reaching out early the next morning when we noticed the end seemed a lot sooner than we expected. Dr. Beth was again quick to respond and let us know she was concerned Kairi had started the dying process. Upon talking to Dr. Beth, we discovered she was actually off and her family was in town - however, she felt connected to us and agreed to meet us later that morning. Dr. Beth asked us to tell her stories about Kairi (and his brother Riku) and share pictures of them. She also took the time to make sure she was pronouncing both their names correctly (which are not common or easy). We couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye and next to one of his favorite places, the lake. Dr. Beth gave us space and let us know to take as much time as we needed with him. It breaks my heart to think of what we would have done had Dr. Beth not agreed to meet us. I wish all fur babies had someone like her to help them cross over. When it came time to transfer Kairi, Dr. Beth again went above and beyond. She handled him with such care while wrapping him in a blanket and in making sure how he was positioned in her car. We are heartbroken and miss our sweet boy so much. We have commented several times how at peace we felt with our last day with him and how he crossed the rainbow. My precious nearly ten-year-old collie Bell was painfully ill with a neurological condition from which she could not recover. Last Tuesday, sadly, my vet advised that it was time for a hospice vet. I was blessed to find Dr. Beth Badgett who was able to arrange her schedule to relieve my dog's pain that same day. Before treating Bell, Dr. Badgett consulted with my vet to learn the names and dosages of pain-killers already administered. Because she wanted Bell to be fully comfortable for a few minutes before the final injection, Dr. Badgett layered her with more pain medication to ensure a smooth and graceful departure and that nothing was perceived as painful. Dr. Badgett treated dear Bell with great care and tenderness making sure that she floated off in a cloud of love, which is what Bell deserved. I will always be grateful to Dr. Badgett. read more

By comparison, Lap of Love was booking days out, days that our girl didn't have. It couldn't have been worse: Our 13-ish old female cat was in trouble. It was a Sunday. We are in the midst of a pandemic. She was panting like a dog in August and clearly in distress. She tried to use her kitty litter but couldn't pass urine. AND, I was having a gout flare. My wife and I hopped on the phone looking for a vet (our kitty had only been indoors for the years she has lived with us. After 9 years, our beloved family cat, Rex, developed cancer. We had him treated at Hope Medical Center in Vienna (also highly recommended), but it became clear he couldn't be cured and we spent the next few months nursing him through declining health. He took a quick turn for the worse, and I reached out to "Dr. Beth," who was recommended by Hope. She responded quickly (thank goodness!) and arranged to come to our home. She asked a lot of questions about Rex and our relationship to him, his illness and current state, and offered counseling that we all found very comforting. We have a young daughter and Dr. Beth explained the death of a pet to her in a lovely way. She also confirmed to my husband and myself that we were making the right decision and helped ease our stress. She fully described the procedure in advance and ensured we were able to be by Rex's side as he went to into deep sleep (before the shot to stop his heart). We were also able to pet him again once his heart had stopped. It was wonderful to NOT have to stress him out with a trip to the vet, and to be so near to him in our own home. Dr. Beth was calm, gentle, and compassionate with both us and him. She talked us through after death options and gave us some choices for cremation, an urn, pawprints, etc - then took care of the business side of all of that. Dr. Beth followed up the next day to check-in on us, and informed our regular vet and the Hope Center of Rex's death. On her advice, I purchased the book "Cat Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant to read to my daughter, who loved it (also on her recommendation, we've written our cat's name and birth/death dates in the cover). She even sent us a condolence card and made a donation on behalf of pet hospice and palliative care on Rex's behalf! I can't recommend Dr. Beth enough for home euthanasia. My one regret is that we'd didn't looked into her services earlier, because my husband and I spent several weeks hand-wringing over Rex's decline, the adequacy of our palliative care, and the decision of "when?" and it would have been incredibly helpful to have had her comforting advice on those topics earlier than we took advantage of it. read more

As others have noted, after a challenging previous experience with Lap of Love, I was thankful to find Dr. Beth (who called me on a Sunday) and helped me with the agonizing decision to gently end my kitty's suffering. Nicki Minaj had been through a challenging health journey over the last several years with exploratory surgery that confirmed IBD after she suddenly stopped eating, and then 5 months later a diagnosis of diffuse ocular melanoma (treated by enucleation), follow by immunotherapy shots (Oncept) to mitigate metastasis if possible. Unfortunately, over the last several months, she'd developed a number of small masses all over her body, which were biopsied and turned out to be metastatic melanoma. A few days later, I noticed that she had started secluding herself in the basement or in my closet for most of the day and began eating significantly less. Dr. Beth listened to my concerns and helped me assess Nicki's pain via the feline grimace scale and recommended several medications (luckily that I already had from her previous surgeries) to mitigate her discomfort for the last several days until I accepted that it would be kindest to euthanize her. On her last day, Nicki enjoyed laying outside in the sun, and I also gave her favorite treat that she loved so much (but had been no longer allowed to have due to her food allergies/IBD). Dr. Beth was kind and very thorough in her explanation during the procedure, which gave me a great degree of comfort. The initial sedative that was administered orally did cause Nicki some distress (with a lot of drooling) but otherwise the procedure went very smoothly...a huge relief. Dr. Beth also arranged for the cremation and return of Nicki to my home -- this full service experience was well worth the additional cost as I wanted Nicki in her final moments to be comfortable in familiar surroundings and I also wanted to grieve privately. It would have been awful taking Nicki to the vet which would have caused so her much undue stress when she already felt so poorly. read more

I called her at 7 a.m. and although i think she had not planned to work that day, Dr. Beth came to my home by 10. She took things as slowly and thoughtfully as I needed. We discussed hospice care for both animals and humans, as my husband is in hospice. She obviously has given a lot of thought about grief and was ready to discuss anything that was on my mind. The anesthesia she administers is a bit more slow acting as what is commonly used in a regular vet's office, but it was taken by my cat without any apparent discomfort. Quite a contrast to my experience in a vet's office just 6 months earlier when my cat yowled in pain when this injection was given. It was quite disturbing and unexpected; no warning. After my cat passed, she brought in a bed and a blanket and very gently laid my cat in it on the floor and allowed some time for my other cats to examine it. This is an extremely better experience of euthanasia than you will get in a vet's office. Also minus the other stresses on you and your animal in making that last trip to a vet's office. read more

Dr. Beth, who had never me before, immediately sprang into action to take care of my pet and my family. Within 2 short hours, she had everything arranged and was by my side. She ensured that we were all taken care of and that my dog's suffering was minimized. I can not recommend her more highly. She is kind and compassionate beyond compare. I'm writing this review for a Godsend. On August 4th, our pet Mickey, an 11.5-year-old black Lab/Australian Shepherd was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor at the base of his brain. Our hearts were broken to hear this news. He was given medication to reduce the swelling and nausea and was given a prognosis of surviving approximately one-two months. The tumor affected his standing and walking as if he was drunk or having an equilibrium problem caused by an inner ear infection. We purchased a support harness to help hold him when we walked him. His appetite was still strong and he was able to go outside and do his business. We eliminated him from walking all stairs due to his condition. My wife began sleeping with him on the main level of the house. On August 10th at approximately 3:30 AM, my wife noticed that Mickey's breathing was labored. We thought it was a side-effect from the prednisone and decided to wait until later in the morning to speak with the vet. At approximately, 8:00 AM Mickey voided on the bed. He didn't move or attempt to let us know he had to go outside. We knew the end was near. We cried and loved him and never left him alone. My wife tried calling a vet to come to the house to euthanize Mickey. She contacted Lap of Love, our vet, and others to no avail. Our vet asked us to bring him into his office at 12:30 and he would euthanize him there. We made the appointment but my wife kept trying to find someone to come to our home. Finally, she found Dr. Beth Badgett at DrBeth@GentleVet.com. Dr. Beth was on her day-off but was more than happy to help Mickey on his final journey. Although Covid-19 was still affecting our lives, Dr. Beth came anyway. Once she arrived, she immediately examined Mickey and gave him medication to help his labored breathing and anxiety. This medication worked immediately! Dr. Beth explained that she was going back to her car and gave us time to love our boy. She came back, 10 minutes later and asked if we were ready for her to administer the final dose of medication which she explained would take a minute or two to take effect. She administered the medication and told us to take as long as we wanted with Mick. We held him and loved him until he stopped breathing. He passed away. Dr. Beth volunteered to take him to the In Memoriam Pet Services in Chantilly for cremation. She brought a canvas carrying wrap and a pet stretcher back into the home and ever so gently wrapped Mickey in the carrying wrap and placed him on the stretcher with only his head and front paws exposed. Dr. Beth got up and asked us to bring him out and place him in her car when we were ready. A few minutes later, we carried him out and placed him in her vehicle. Dr. Beth is a God Send. She talked to Mickey as if she had known him her entire life and it seemed to help him relax. Dr. Beth has a strong Christian background and asked if it would be okay for her to pray for Mickey. Yes, of course, we replied. We were so happy to find such a kind, gentle, considerate vet to send Mick on his final journey. I was able to get her a prescription for a pain killer but it was getting harder and harder to get her up. She was not getting any better. I was starting to get panicked and Jesse was starting to go downhill very fast. I had called a couple of doctors I found on Google but was unable to find a doctor who was taking new patients and I did not have a way to get Jesse to her regular vet. Jesse was too heavy for me to pick up. Then I found Dr. Badgett through Yelp. Long story short, I had sent Dr. Badgett a video of Jesse limping/walking and let her know that I had not yet been able to get Jesse up that morning to go out. Within 15 minutes of receiving the video, she called me and told me that she would be there within the hour and she was. Dr. Badgett examined Jesse. She thought that Jesse had an aggressive form of bone cancer, was in a lot of pain, and suggested that it was time to let Jesse go. As hard as this was, Jesse went to heaven. Dr. Badgett helped Jesse and me through from beginning to end in a very loving, respectful, caring, and compassionate way. She is an angel, helped us when we really needed the help and I am eternally grateful. Dr. Beth Badgett was an absolute blessing! Our 15 year old dog was sick and our vet we had been going to for years suggested euthanasia due to his poor quality of life. We knew we wanted to have him peacefully pass away in our home so we contacted Dr. Beth and she walked us through everything she was doing, step by step. She was very supportive and understanding and also helped set up all of the aftercare needs for his remains. She stayed in touch with us until we had our dogs ashes returned to us, as well as suggested some books dealing with grief which were very helpful. All in all, despite the circumstances, it was a wonderful experience and we couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye to our beloved dog. read more
