If you only ever had an Elders, and didn't know Clampitt, maybe they seem OK?? I was quoted $8 for a #2 spruce 8' 2x4 yesterday at Elders Bryson, at Lowes $3.45. I don't expect Lowes prices, but that is ridiculous, Clampitt used to be about $5 for the same 2x4 months ago, and lumber prices have been stable since then. When I commented to the cashier "I miss Clampitt", she said "We hear that a lot". I prefer to shop local, and will continue for other things ... but for hardware/lumber, I'll now normally just drive to Sylva. Since being purchased from Clampitt, Elders has screwed up the inventory system, reduced what they carry (Isles are much wider due to less inventory). They also eliminated any vegetable plants in 6 packs, reduced the vegetable seed rack by replacing it with ... wait for it ... Elder's logo'ed hats and coffee mugs at an exorbitant price. I have never seen anyone picking up anything from that shelf.

Some old fashioned soda in the back for hot summer days. The right side is more your everyday stuff and traditional general store items. You will find actual hardware, command strips, soil, birdseed and leaning supplies. The front has cute games and books. Again, check the prices as some are quite fair (I got birdseed and a birdfeeder for the cat that costs similar to Amazon prices) but some can be high. Other random info- They also do handiwork and make key copies. That's nifty. You can become a member and get some discounts if you wish (it's free). I called in advance. Ensured the product was in stock and let them know I had questions and was on my way. The Festool guy asked two other peeps to answer my questions, including a phone handler who said she didn't know anything about the product. After the second staff told the Festool guy I had questions, he grudgingly came over. Pretty sure I was being marginalized cuz I am a chick. Really don't enjoy being treated poorly when I come to spend $500. We won't be back. I can be dissed for free.

I ordered pea gravel to be delivered. The driver who delivered the gravel ruined a concrete curb…read morealong the edge of my paved driveway. When I called the person in charge (Tanya) she wanted to question her driver and get back to me. She replied that her driver said he remembered the details of the delivery and assured her that he did not drive on the curb, that my curb showed cracks and weeds and looked like someone had moved them. She said she believed him and wasn't going to take responsibility. Further, she talked of "no proof" when I showed her what the curb looked like days before and have proof of the date of the picture. This business clearly not only has incompetent drivers but believes their customers just "makes things up"....i have worked hard for 68 years for what I have and do not appreciate being treated like I made this up to get something for nothing. When I hire a delivery company I expect what I pay for without damage. UPS, fed ex and Lowe's all have handled my deliveries without damage. I would not recommend this business. They don't care about their business or their customers.

This was one of very few small businesses that had yet to reopen when we visited. So we wanted to stop in and show our support by buying some gifts and a cup of tea. Still in the process of reestablishing, their new space is coming along nicely. Lots of pretty jewelery, trinkets, crystals, various gifts and even a small selection of plants. It appears that multiple talented artisans sell their work here. I've wanted a Rose of Jericho for a long time, but had resisted buying one so far. There are reports that much of what is available on the market has been poached from wildlife. But when one of the owners noticed my interest in them, he told me how when they were finally allowed to come back after the hurricane, they opened the door to their flooded shop to see all the Rose Of Jerichos alive and floating in the water. "I knew right then that we were going to be ok." I was sold and will cherish mine, with this sentiment attached. I also bought myself a new little Pilea for my Fairy Garden, some beautiful earrings, and a handful of gifts for my loved ones. I snagged a hot tea as I paid for purchases and then used their clean restroom before we headed out into the wilderness for the day. This seems to be another favorite amongst the Appalachian Trail pack, and I can see why. Im looking forward to coming back later in the season and seeing their progress in rebuilding.
