For a long while I wasn't able to raise up my left arm or perform basic functions such as taking off a t-shirt, back scratch, or wring-dry a towel. After being attracted by the mentioning of "hands-on" approach in online reviews, I selected Genuine Care to treat my shoulder impingement issue. The result has been above and beyond my expectation. As of today, my pains are almost completely gone. I am working towards a 100% recovery with Jina's wonderful help. Highlights of my experience: 1. Hands-on treatments During each session, a good portion of time is spent on manual massage of the affected area. This process at times can be uncomfortable, but the results are more than amazing. 2. Exercises Like many other PTs, they teach exercises to be repeated at home. Jina always verifies my movements during each session. As my condition progresses, Jina switches me to new and more challenging exercises. 3. People Jina, Youngsun and their staff are always very friendly. They listen and communicate well. They patiently answered my repeated questions about Medicare coverage. I initially suspected my issue was caused by my lengthy music practices. Jina spent extra time examining. She eliminated my concern with sound basis. In the past months I have seen many different kinds of patients there. I had such a great experience with Genuine Care! The staff is honestly so friendly and caring, and with their treatment I made a quick recovery from my exercise-related injury. FYI - I'm 32 years old and very active, so if you're around my age and need help with any injuries or issues with your physical condition, don't second-guess whether Genuine Care could be a good fit for you. They help people of all ages! I came to Genuine Care Physical Therapy with knee aches and pains from overexercising (dance and running). I was at the point where even just normal walking, or going up and down stairs, was causing me discomfort/pain. Working with Jina, I found out I was dealing with tendonitis and started receiving massages to undo the damage. I was also able to learn different stretches and lifestyle changes that would help me improve my condition and avoid re-injury in the future. In just a little over a month after beginning treatment, I was back to jogging pain-free. Special shout-out to Jina! Happy to review this business four years after I first became a customer using "Genuine Physical Therapy ". What an appropriate name. I have been in hundred of physical therapy sessions throughout my life and health situations. I have also paid thousands for massage and bodywork, out of pocket because I could not get the relief required for movement as most PT offices give you 15 minutes manipulation, then ice, exercise, tens... This office uses hands on physical training and body work consistently, to heal your body. It is the kind of hands on understanding of body mechanics, and putting in the time to make adjustments to all facets of muscles, fascia, joints and layers releasing tensions, and trigger pain in many areas of my body. I have had work on many areas including my neck, head,back, legs, hips, feet...you get the picture. In closing, to give you a better understanding of the relief, or difference in my ability, rather my functionality yesterday, and after a too long absence from the table...I had three sessions with Young sun in the last two weeks ... and I was able to hike up and down the trails along the hills from campus down to the Birch aquarium. Honestly if I could give these guys a grade much higher then a 5 I would. Though they treated me some time back I wanted finally to give them a rating! I had a frozen shoulder in the right shoulder. Saw PT at a major health care facility 6 appointments got no where. After seeing Jina I was well on my way to recovery! Fast forward about a year. The other shoulder was now having the same issue. Went to a private PT organization here in town..6 appointments, again no help at all! Saw Jina again. Same thing after 6 appointments I was well on my way to healing. It would have taken me months at these other facilities and probably would not have healed till it healed on its own! What Jina did was somewhat painful but that was the key to getting it healed and healed relatively fast!! They actually fix things instead of just going though the motions!! read more

This place has helped me so, so much with my back pain. Dr Youngsun is incredible, he knows exactly what caused the pain from a whole body perspective and digs in with deep massage and stretches that alleviated my pain when I left his office. Outstanding. I have seen many PTs and these people pay attention to their patients. They spend time with you. It's not like a typical place that has the PT/person spend 15 minutes with you and the rest of the time you are on ice or heat or electrical stimulation. Dr Kim easily spent 45 minutes on manipulation and the rest of our time on what exercises to do at home and why. They get to know the whole person. My back is a bit of a project and Dr Kim got me to a place of "status quo" - less pain and more mobility, that has allowed me to strengthen my back and core to avoid surgery. read more

Miracle Workers My husband heard about Youngsun Kim, the extraordinary physical therapist, from a number of his friends who have been helped by him. Although it was a long jaunt for us (we live in Vista, CA), we decided to see what all the ravings were about. We were thrilled to know that they would accept our regular Medi-Care as payment, and I decided to attend my husband's first appointment with him in Del Mar. I was VERY impressed with Youngsun's great knowledge of physiology, his hand's on approach, high intelligence and great sense of humor. My husband felt like he could really be helped by him (and was!), so I made an appointment for myself to see if they could help me with my chronic back pain due to scoliosis. Because my husband wanted to continue to see Youngsun regularly to help him with his challenging knees and back, I decided to schedule visits with Gina Kim, Youngsun's delightful wife who is the other physical therapist there. So we were scheduled simultaneously. Wow! They were both SO helpful to both of us! Because of my scoliosis, I just assumed that the now chronic back and sacroiliac pain that I had felt daily for years was something I'd just have to tolerate. Gina proved me wrong! She taught me how to be more gentle with my movements, what exercises to do (and avoid), how to be more conscious of how I move when I walk, and encouraged me to change out my mattress to one that gave more support. Each time I went in to see her she'd work hands on to get the very tight muscles to release, until one day I awoke with NO pain! It remains that way now and I am, of course, delighted and in awe not only at her expertise but at my aging body's ability to return to more balance. As Gina would always tell me, "it's never too late!" This husband-wife physical therapy team is THE BEST. My husband and I have been to physical therapy prior to finding their practice, but their expertise and hands on approach is way above the norm! We both feel so very grateful to have found them. I thought I had to live with chronic pain rest of my life after trying everything and nothing made much improvement. My friend recommended Dr. Kim, I was skeptical about another physical therapy which I went through many before. But as the last resort, I called and set up an appointment. After one treatment, I felt I met a doctor who can finally fix me! I thanked God and my friend who led me to Dr. Kim. After I saw the outcome of treatment from myself, I brought my whole family! My mom who had compression fracture, my younger son who had stress fracture from sports and my older son who developed scoliosis from bad posture. He spends entire 45min hands on solely by him, not by aid or electrical stimulus, etc which often used to fill time. His manipulation technique on soft tissue worked so well like magic! I was never a fan of physical therapy until I found Genuine Care Physical Therapy..... After three, yes three, rotator cuff surgeries and many, many sessions of physical therapy at other facilities I can say with 110% surety that without Youngsun Kim my golfing life would be over. Jina has been amazingly I have been to several different PT places. This is by far the best. You actually spend the entire time with a physical therapist NOT an aide. Manual manipulation has given me relief from pain in my shoulder and back. I had back pain for several years and thought it was just something I would have to live with.
