I called their office and she told me to come in right away. She and her staff were amazing. She tried several different things to get me some relief. She explained things that would help me in the short term as well as the long term. She and her staff went the second mile as we call it at my job. Dr. Rubanenko is awesome. I've gone to her many times over the years for different kinds of ailments that puzzled other doctors or PTs. She does physical therapy and soft-tissue work in addition to adjustments, and she's a great out-of-the-box thinker so she has always been able to help me figure out what is ailing me even if it takes a while to heal. She is great at headaches and also all kinds of hip and knee problems. Sometimes she works you out and gives you exercises; sometimes she does ultrasound or stims; sometimes she does deep tissue massage for a little while before she does her adjustments. (she is an awesome masseuse but obviously as a doctor she can't do that for an hour like a massage therapist can). She is also incredibly kind and genuine and loves her patients. And she's really helpful about squeezing people in on her schedule when she hears you are in pain. She also sells orthotics, which has been incredibly helpful for me. I never thought I needed them but they make a big difference in my posture and have definitely helped me with pain. Finally, she is very kid-friendly. I don't like to take my child when I go in (too distracting!) but I see her helping other people who don't have childcare, and she keeps the child distracted while she works on the parent. I've been procrastinating for a few weeks and finally pulled myself away from my routine to leave a review. My story goes back about one year when I first began having issues with a stiff and sore neck. My work is mentally demanding and so I thought it was just stress. The pain would come and go. It was dibilitating and I had problems sleeping. The pain and stiffness would also cause issues when driving. It hurt to turn my head when viewing blind spots. I needed help. I visited a couple of massage therapists but the solution was only temporary. I then reached out to physical therapy through my medical insurance. I showed up four times. I first visited Dr Ruby after injuring my lower back. I had a 9-5 desk job and it was starting to become unbearable. The very first appointment she was able to work on my back, and walk me through various strengthening exercises. It only took a couple more visits along with daily exercises on my own and my back was feeling stronger than ever after a couple months. 2 years later my back still feels great. I moved out of the San Diego area but I will always know how to care for my back because of my visits to Dr Ruby. She is not like the many other chiropractors who will expect you to constantly revisit for more adjustments. She will set you up to be self sufficient and truly cares about your health. Seven years ago I was referred to Dr Rubanenko by my OBGYN because of the severe pain I was having in my neck, shoulders and back. I had a 1 year old at the time and was struggling to care for him as it hurt so much to pick him up or hold him. Dr Rubanenko (Dr Ruby as my kids and I call her) was a miracle worker. She was patient and gentle with me as she helped figure out the source of my pain and came up with a clear plan on how she was going to help me. After a couple months of being treated by Dr Ruby, I was back to feeling normal again and living life as a young mom without pain. I continued to see Dr Ruby through my second pregnancy. I was not sure how chiropractic treatment would be during pregnancy, but Dr Ruby was great. She helped with some sciatic pain I had as well as help with alignment and back discomfort when my belly became heavy and big. I began seeing Dr. Ruby 4 months ago after my 9 yr old son & I were in a car accident. Since then, she has helped us with far beyond chiropractic care. She gives the best massage and adjustment - she is gentle yet strong & can always zero right in to those ouchie spots. She's also amazing with kids and my son always looks forward to his adjustments. She does see a lot of patients towards the end of the day, so if you're in a time constraint, I would recommend coming earlier in the day. I rarely go out of my way to write a one star review...but I had to in this case. I found Dr. Ruby on Yelp because I was looking for a chiropractor that specialized in working with pregnant women, and she had great reviews. I made a new patient appointment and came early enough to fill out paperwork (about 10-15 minutes before my appointment). An hour later I was still waiting, even though I had checked in twice with the front desk to ask about the delay. I was told that she had scheduled two other "new patient" appointments before mine. There were others in the waiting room who had appointments after mine as well...so it was backlogged. When she called me back, I told her very calmly (not angry) that I was disappointed that I had really been looking forward to this appointment for two weeks, only to be seen an hour after my appointment time, and that I have two young children at home with the childcare arrangements that go with that. She literally said to me "This is not a spa". I was shocked. I could see a nasty/snide reply if I had been rude, but I had not. Then she went over the forms I had filled out and informed me that the insurance I had did not cover massage, only adjustments and that she massages all the pregnant clients. She asked if I wanted to pay x amount of dollars extra and I said no. Then she went on to complain about my insurance and say that she might as well be seeing me for free because of how little she is reimbursed. I think my mouth must have been hanging open....it was so unprofessional. I wanted to leave at that point, but honestly I had been in pain for two weeks waiting for this appointment so I just stayed. She said a few more things about how I had filled out a lot of things on the forms and that she had to match that up with treatment for insurance, and that I needed to fill out two more forms before I left and then (!) she asked me to make it easier for her and not put too much information on the forms. What!!??? Is this an episode of What Would You Do? The adjustment was minimal. A crack at each hip, a stretch of each hip, and a crack of the neck. That was it. Then she put me on a rolling table which hurt, so I got off it and went to the front to fill out the last two forms she wanted me to do. By the way, I filled them out completely because that is how I roll. Then the lady at the front tried to charge me $15 for my copay, and I told her I had called my insurance that day to make sure that my copay was $10. She asked if I wanted to pay $15 and then have a $5 credit for a future visit and I said "No, I won't be making another appointment". I left in more pain than when I arrived....which I blame on the rolling table. A couple days later I got a voicemail message from Dr. Ruby saying that my copay was $10 and she also apologized for being so late, but kind of took it back by saying "It Happens". She did not apologize for being unprofessional and discussing insurance things that she should have kept to herself. I am honestly a little afraid to post this review since, she has a lot of personal information of mine including my social security number, but in fairness to anyone else that might have the same experience and wonder if they are the only ones.....I thought I should write what really happened. read more

I started seeing Dalya recently in my 3rd trimester when I started having bad back pain. Its been a wonderful experience. She is very attentive and knowledgeable. I had a sharp stabbing pain in my middle back and ribs area. I was traveling to Europe the next day so wanted to have some improvement before the long flight. Dr. Rubanenko took me in the same day. What is happening to me is nothing short of a complete miracle. I had been taking pain medication since 1985 - non-stop - and still had horrible pain and disability in my right hand and arm. Dayla is great. I went to someone at her office as I was recommended to them by a co-worker. Ironically, the chiro I was seeing had canceled on me that day and I hadn't gotten the message in time. Dayla was the sweetest and told me that she'd be able to take me as a patient so that I wouldn't have to re-schedule as I had taken off work. Best thing that happened. She not only treated me THAT day (got me on a stretching table right away!) she recommended a pain management doctor for me as well. SI joint pain is something I do not wish on anyone (not even an enemy!)... so I was relieved when she was able to treat me, show me stretched that I could do at home, and recommended someone to me to help with the acute pain I was dealing with while I got on the long road to recovery.
