My boyfriend recommended me to go to Dr. George Ambus. I have been having this horrible tooth pain for weeks, so I got an appointment and met with Dr. Ambus. He took a look at my teeth and took some pictures to find out what the extent of the problem was. He was so kind and explained everything very well. We schedule another apt for 3 or so weeks away for a root canal, but I left the office and went home I began to feel that pain again but it was excruciating. I called him the next day early in the morning and told him my pain was unbearable. He found an opening in his day to squeeze me in and take away my pain. Him and his staff are amazing! I told him how scared I am of the dentist and he assured me everything was going to be okay. He really cares for his patients and I liked that a lot. I so happy I have found a new dentist. The weirdest appointment of my life. On my end, prior to the appointment, I had the X-rays sent, filled out his gobs of paperwork and sent someone my insurance information. I then chased them around asking if they'd gotten everything and they asked me to resend EVERYTHING and then finally made my appointment early as hell 9:30am on Saturday. I came in only to be bombarded in the chair with consistent dental questions (like which teeth had the cavities? I can't see an internal cavity! how many did you say there were? Four, for the millionth time they told me four!). He showed me paper print outs of my almost brand new X-rays and said they aren't clear. Maybe use a computer to look at them since they were sent as high quality images?! Dr. Ambus continued to ask me questions about my X-rays, I'm not a dentist, why would I know any of these answers? Coming in for a cavity filling should be routine. Dr Ambus said that this was a "consultation", (imo weird and uncomfortable non productive consultation) and that his office would connect with my old office (like they should have already done prior to my FIRST VISIT) late next week and then call me. Okay, tolerable, clearly you're gonna wait another week cuz I'm not a priority but fine. Shit hit the fan when as I was out the door with no work done at all, he said "Hey but if we don't call you, you call us okay?" Um no. Don't worry you won't see me again, quack. Still can't shake the awkwardness of that appointment, what a horrible experience. He called me and blamed his support staff after I left a message saying that I will not be back in so don't bother doing whatever it was you claimed you do before my second trip over. Pro tip: How about don't schedule new patients you are not at all ready for cuz you're just gonna freak them out?! None of it makes any sense. This was all so unprofessional. Left with nothing done and no plans to ever return. What a colossal waste of my time. Anyone know a good dentist?! Maybe I had too high of hopes, I did my research and was willing to deal with a lot to get the appointment. I'm literally envious of the other user's experiences here since they all seem to be the complete and utter opposite of mine. read more

Office is clean, modern, and staff is friendly and professional. Had to move my appointment and they were accommodating to my schedule, and followed up with a courtesy reminder phone call as well. I've had some awful experiences with dentists over the years! I've been coming to Dr Ambus for 6 years and I couldn't be happier! I went for the first time today and was very happy with my experience. Dr. Ambus was very friendly and really took the time to talk with me and discuss my goals and expectations for the dental work that I am interested in. He gave me good recommendations​ and really took the time to educate me on my different options as well as setting up a referral. I have had some very terrible and painful experiences with the dentist. I found Dr. Ambus by referral from my roomate, and I will never go to another dentist again. I had to have a very painful procedure done (extraction on a tooth with a previous root canal that had become infected) and he was great. He made me feel very comfortable and at ease. He explains everything he is doing in simple terms. He does what is necessary and above all, treats you like a person and is concerned about your pain level. He's my dentist for life. After going to several dentists in the San Francisco area we were referred to Dr. Ambus. I was pleased with his ability to convey in layman's terms what the situation was with my teeth and gums. He explained clearly what was occurring, what was causing the different issues and his recommendations as to how to repair deficiencies. He actually let me look in a mirror as he showed me the different things that needed to be addressed with my teeth. I felt like I understood not only what needed to be but also why and also what would happen if I chose to not repair some of the different things going on. I only recently became a yelper, so this review is overdue. I've been coming here for over 3 years and it's the best dental experience I've ever had for several reasons: 1) Good music - sounds like KFOG; 2) Great magazines that are current; 3) paint-decorated ceilings (what else are you going to look at while you're being drilled?) 4) friendly & caring staff; 5) handsome dentist; 7) easy parking in Stonestown lot or parking garage. Only 2 minor issues: There's a very critical dental hygenist (but I guess that's her job). And, sometimes the wait can be over 30 minutes if you add together the time in the waiting room and later in the chair. - On the other hand, if you need to see Dr. Ambus in an emergency, he'll go out of his way to see you. So, obviously when a dentist is this accommodating, then others have to wait. Also, the staff will work with your insurance company to get your work pre-approved or paid afterward. My work schedule is variable and often broken up by travel, but they've been amazingly patient and helpful in helping to for appointments in to my calendar.
