I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience absolutely deserved one. While traveling through the Pacifica area, I unexpectedly needed dental work and was fortunate enough to be referred to Dr. John Acosta. He was able to get me in on extremely short notice, which alone was impressive. What really stood out was the level of professionalism, care, and attention to detail throughout the entire process. Dr. Acosta performed my wisdom tooth extraction and is also helping me with cosmetic dental work. From the initial consultation to the treatment itself, he took the time to explain everything clearly, answer my questions, and make sure I was comfortable every step of the way. The procedure was far smoother than I expected, and the recovery process has been excellent. What separates Dr. Acosta from many healthcare professionals is that he genuinely cares about his patients. You never feel rushed, pressured, or treated like just another appointment on the schedule. His staff is welcoming, the office is professional, and the quality of care is exceptional. As a new patient at Pacific Coast Dental, I'm honored and delighted to add my review to Yelp with high praise to offer ~ and I haven't yet been treated! First, there is the front office staff: Yvonne and Francis. They were so cordial and patient over the phone as I explained my tooth problem and reluctance to seek treatment. They've heard it all before but were empathetic and eager to help but not push. I gladly took the first appointment available. Pain doesn't like to wait. The office is lovely ~ bright and modern, with a large-screen summary of the staff, treatments offered and before-and-after images of actual patients. I arrived early, and Yvonne and Francis welcomed me as warmly as they did via phone. In short order Dr. John Acosta came out front to greet me, along with his handsome(!) Golden doodle, Paxton. It's no wonder he may have "therapy dog" in his future. He was gentle, sweet and welcoming. Actually settled down in the exam room with me. A first. My dental chair faced a giant screen with a stunning video of Antigua, with background music so soft and comforting I could easily have dozed off. No dental fear here. That same screen doubled as a display of my teeth, so Dr. Acosta could clearly demonstrate and explain the issues with my tooth. Another first. And I was deeply impressed by his knowledge and professionalism. He's a dental specialist who continues to learn the most advanced techniques available in the field. Which he brings to his patients ~ and to this patient who wants to protect my teeth. Then there was Nicole, the delightful dental tech. She seemed so young to be so well-informed and highly skilled. But all I could do was marvel and accept it. As I said at the outset, I haven't yet been treated. But I know a great dental team when I meet them. Well, I've met them. My dental anxiety is next level, I had more anxiety coming into this appointment today than a double throat surgery last month! My hygienist, Connie, was extremely sweet and very calming and patient. She explained every step of what she was doing and kept checking in to make sure I felt comfortable. At the beginning of the appt I was a 10/10 in anxiety and by then end I was a 1/10! I was thoroughly impressed with how much time Connie spent going through things and explaining each step. Dr Costa was also very warm and welcoming and reassuring. I loved that they emphasized that they are here to educate and inform you- but they also let you know that you are not pressured to do anything you don't want. Dr Costs said he would look over my exams closely to come up with a treatment plan that works for me. It was a wonderful experience all the way around. 100/100! read more

Have been coming here fore several years, my child as well, and we are thankful for the quality dental and orthodontic care we've received and the general responsiveness and professionalism of all the folks here. I recently had an urgent problem with what turned out to be an infection and a tooth than needs removal, and I'm very glad they were able to get me in on short notice. Had never met Dr. Ymas before but feel fortunate that I have, as he is an excellent listener who clearly and patiently helped me understand what was going on and the next steps ahead. Also was well taking care of by the X-ray tech (whose name I forget!) and of course the ever helpful Francis at the front office. read more

Unfortunately my daughter is getting tons of repairs on teeth that had fillings from here. The dentist prior to here was shocking that she had fillings since he has X-rays showing there were no cavities prior to going here. Everybody was so pushy and they just felt very money oriented/hungry. I went in for just a cleaning and xrays since it was my first time. The dentist right away asked me what I would change about my teeth if I could and was very set on having me get Invisalign which is (COSMETIC). I told him I liked my quirky smile and he asked me the question again. Whole experience felt very off. I'm in my 20's just switched over to my own insurance. It felt like salesman energy to me from every single employee. Super bummed as I was super excited it was so close to where I live. read more

Not a big fan of this office. I had a bad experience on the last time I came in. I had a lady dentist who was great. I can't remember her name because I saw her pre pandemic, but she was great and I had a root canal she took X-rays and said that she couldn't fix so she referred me to a an oral surgeon. I can back 6-12 months later to get a teeth cleaning and my dentist was not there, but a male doctor invited himself (think Doctor Acosta) into the cleaning claiming that I hadn't been checked out in a while and without taking X-Ray he determined in about 60 seconds with a pick that I needed 2 filling. I've been to countless doctors recently that took multiple X-rays of my teeth and they didn't find any of this. He even used the pick and got it stuck in one of the groves in my teeth and said "you see that stick, that is a cavity". I've never seen a doctor diagnose a cavity without X-Rays and I've been going to dentists since the 80's before modern X-rays were available. I felt like I was being swindled. I am not going to let someone drill into my teeth after 60 seconds of tooth pick, are you out of your mind. For that lady dentist and the dental hygienists I'm sorry and honestly I'd be upset because that dentist lost you 2 patients (me and my wife). They also tried to sell me invisaline when countless of dentists have told me that I don't need them. My suggestion to this office is think about your patient's well being and not your next month's paycheck. read more

I've always been a fan of the dentist (crazy, I know!) and going to a new dentist after over 20 years was a little nerve wracking. The front staff were so kind and welcoming and it didn't stop there. The dental assistant, Dr. Acosta, and the hygienist were all professional and explained everything they were doing. Not once during my visit was I uncomfortable or in any type of pain. At the end of my visit the front staff was clear in what would or would not be covered and even offered payment plans if needed, which I completely appreciate. I am a reluctant patient, but I am overwhelmed with professional help and concern every time I visit. My goal as an active 67 year old is to keep my Dental health as good as it can be, and I know that I am receiving the best care possible. They have a great Team working there , Francis and Yvonne, who have shown me unexpected compassion, during my visits , Great Ladies! My newest star in this All- Star Staff is , Connie, the Dental Hygienist , who took the time to make sure I had the tools and information I need to continue to do my part, to maintain Dental Health! The dentist I went to for 25 years retired suddenly during the pandemic and I had to find a new dentist quickly. I am so grateful I found Pacific coast Dental and Dr. Acosta and his team. I feel so well cared for and even as I have had more dental issues when onboarding (owing to age and having gone too long without seeing someone during the height of COVID), the team has been super empathetic and patient in explaining what's happening and in co-creating a treatment plan with me. Dr. Acosta and his team are excellent. Whenever I come to his office, I always feel welcome and part of the family. When I enter the office, I am greeted with warm and friendly smiles. The lounge is so inviting, equipped with coffee, water, a TV, plenty of toys for kids, and lots of good reading material. It feels like your own living room! When I'm seen by any of the dentists here, every visit is educational and informative. I always feel like the dentists really care about my teeth - from the prevention to the treatment. When I've had cleanings and fillings done here, they're sensitive to my comfort and pain tolerance. They even let me pick what show I want to watch on TV and what playlist I want played on Pandora. They are also really great with small children! Compared to other dental offices I've been to, it feels like they use up-to-date technology - not just to be cool, but to be efficient and to best take care of their patients. I even got a nice lemon-scented warm towel for my face after my fillings procedure! I told my husband I felt like I just got out of a spa! The service is excellent. To top it off, each member of their team is so nice! I feel like whenever I come here, I'm visiting friends. I'd highly HIGHLY recommend Dr. Acosta's office. read more

Dr. Acosta and team are great! They are super helpful and return calls promptly. The waiting area is cozy and they have toys and computer games to keep the kids occupied. In the many years my family has been seeing them, I've never encountered any issues with billing, insurance, or otherwise. The place is run like a well-oiled machine. Also, what other dentist do you know that has weekend and evening appointments available? Super convenient for working families who can't manage to take extra time off! My entire family goes here (even my husband, who had been seeing the same dentist in Burlingame since he was a toddler). My kids actually ask me "Mama, when can we go to the dentist again?" They look forward to it because the staff at Pacific Coast Dental go out of their way to make kids feel comfortable and entertained. They have TVs with kids (and adults) programming in the treatment areas, which keeps them distracted during their cleanings. We've been so happy and blessed to have Pacific Coast Dental as the dental practice for our entire family. Dr. Acosta is so incredibly friendly, personable, helpful and always helps provide options so the patient can choose what they feel is best for them. The entire front desk staff, including Dr. Acosta's wife Ann, Francis, and Yvonne are always happy to help in any way, including rescheduling appointments when life happens, helping remind us of when we have an upcoming appointment, and many other super supportive things, always with a cheerful and warm personality. Dr. Acosta has been my dentist for 10 years. His "chair-side manner" is excellent. He communicates clearly and carefully. There are no surprises. He's attentive and careful in his work. The staff is professional and helpful. The front office staff are great. The technicians and hygienists change frequently, however. Most of them have been gentle and communicative. I've had a few cavities the past 10 years, and Dr. Acosta's work seems as good as any dentist. Minimal pain, and the fillings are still good. My kids are happy about the technology: screens on the ceiling, with choices of video or music to keep distracted from the scraping inside their mouths. My only complaint: he is popular. Sometimes it's hard to get an appointment. Be prepared to book way in advance. In an emergency, they will strive to fit you in soon, but it's always a stretch. They recently added another dentist to the staff, so maybe they have room in the schedule. I hope so. I never want to search for another dentist. read more

I know people like this office, but I didn't have the greatest experience. I think the dentist is nice and office staff is nice. But, it all just felt like I was visiting a used car lot. Dr. Acosta told me that I needed braces. The first dentist in my entire 50+ years who suggested I needed to get braces! No dentist before and no dentist after has ever said that. Then he convinced me that I needed to use some special toothpaste and mouthwash that they sold. I've always had very clean teeth and cleanings are easy and quick for me. I've always been told that my teeth don't accumulate much plaque. Not sure why I would need special stuff that they sold? It felt like I was constantly being up-sold with other stuff and it didn't sit well with me, so after just a couple visits, I found a new dentist and haven't had any issues. read more

Let me start by admitting that I didn't have the best brushing habits as a kid, so I've got alot of horror stories and trauma with my childhood dentist. With Dr. Acosta? No Fear. I actually LIKE coming to the dentist now. All of the staff are professional and friendly, I've never heard any patients screaming in terror, the chairs are super comfortable, and you get to pick your own pandora/tv station to relax to. On the paperwork side, I've never had any billing issues with my dental insurance (Humana). I pay the co-pay and Pacific Coast Dental takes care of all of the paperwork. The best of the best. I can't say enough about how wonderful Dr Acosta and his staff are. He is so knowledgeable and will make you feel comfortable right away.
