It's a fun time to get some water and paddle or boat around. We especially enjoy taking kayaks and/or paddle boards from the beach to the little island. It's not a super busy lake from our experience except maybe on a major holiday. read more

Nice little hidden park totally accessible from the main Gravois Rd. This park has plenty of benches, tables, pits, and gazebos. It's perfect for dog walking, water watching & capturing a beautiful sunset. You may see people chillaxing with their feet dangling from the platform over the bank of water (at their own risk), others are fishing, congregating or jet skiing (which I do t personally recommend but whatever). Crazy construction. More fisherman than I was comfortable with. Do you trust a man the would eat fish from these river ways? What kind of iron stomachs do they possess? Steel colons? Sigmoid vault tighter than Fort Knox. Maybe this is how StL gets a super hero? Lt. Colonel Catfish. That might have a difficult name meaning in the current timeline. The pathways are lush and well kept. Great for a backyard. They are building houses next to this place. Very fancy. 1970s style outdoor tables like "Goode" shelter but with an early 2010 feel to it. Easy in and out boat ramps with plenty of space and nearby parking... even on a pandemic Sunday. Launched a couple of PWCs and got an awesome 90-minute smooth-as-silk Meramec ride for 15 miles to the Mississippi and back almost no one else on the river and scenery so picturesque you could be in southern Idaho. read more

George C. Winter park is a little stand of trees along the Meramec River that has a boat ramp. We went here because I saw on a blog somewhere that they have a swimming hole, and I thought we'd be able to let our dogs take a dip. Unless you have a speed boat, a case of Miller Light and a Budweiser bikini, George C. Winter park is not going to have anything to offer you. Oh, and there's no swimming allowed. read more

Not a great place for kids looking for a play ground. But, it does have a good boat ramp. I enjoy just sitting and relaxing while watching the river. Nice and quiet park. read more

I'm not boater so that's the primary reason for only 3 stars. I love parks in general though. Playground is average and there is a relatively short trail along the river. It floods often which can leave a lot of garage that ruins the view. read more

I really have to wonder about some people who trash a park's reviews. To the guy who gave it a 1 star review because he said there was no swimming allowed, WRONG, if you would have bothered to ask someone, mainly a park ranger they would have told you there is a swimming area about 1/8 mile down from there on the Jefferson county side. To the woman who was complaining about the water being shallow or dirty, really? It's the meramec connected to the Mississippi, ya know, the muddy Mississippi? What did you expect? As to the low spots, it's a river, when the water is low there are low spots, when it's higher they are not. Rend lake is 110 miles away if you want a stable water level. NOW, if I don't want to spend a full weekend driving 100 + miles to go boating & the water level is good George Winter is a great place to go. I prefer the second boat ramp, if you get there early enough you can even park your car & trailer in the shade. It's a river, if the water is low it can be dicey, especially where you leave the part to hit the main river. Once you get past there Winter Brothers dredges for their barges so you're good for a while. If you take your boat or jetski out to the main channel and go right about a mile there's a great bowl back there that is not accessible by the road where you can beach & let the dogs or kids play. If you don't have a boat there are pavilions there and picnic tables. I've been going here since the 80's it's a good park. Have fun. read more

My 5-year old niece was in town and my brother obliged her by taking her on his boat. This place, run by the STL County Parks Department, is small and pretty shallow in most spots. The water's no dirtier than any other small lake. The clientele? Typical South County. I won't go back, but then again, there's not really much to offer here. read more

This really is a great county park. The major draw is the boat ramps, which allows you to launch your boat in the Meramec River about 15 miles upstream from the confluence with the Mississippi. If the water is high, you have at least 25 miles of the river that is usable and offers good boating, fishing, water skiing, etc.. If it is low, you still have several miles that are deep enough for boating. Fishing on this stretch of the river used to be really good but the Asian Carp have really put a dent in the Bass population. It is also a quiet park (most of the time) to watch the river. There are also wide open fields to use and plentiful picnic tables and barb-b-q pits. In the back of the park is a trail that connects to the Meramec Greenway trail, which at the current time is at least 5 miles long and connects to Fenton Park and Unger Park. The bridge over a creek on the trail has needed repairs for a while. read more
