I should start by saying that I was impressed that this park is so accessible to St. Louis City and County residents (near 141 and 44). It is well-maintained with a playground, walking paths, bathrooms (clean and well-stocked), a large covered shelter with picnic tables and a lovely lake with kayak/canoe rentals. Fishing is allowed. It was a hot day, but we enjoyed sitting in the shade, canoeing around the little lake and later seeing the sun set over the lake. I would like to return again and walk around the lake with our dog and then perhaps have a picnic on one of the covered picnic tables with a view of the lake.

It's a great distance to get some steps in, and if you want to continue your steps, you can head across Marshall near the water. It's clean, lots of wildlife, and a really lovely spot. Dan Robinson State Park has two different trails that you can hike one is around 5 miles. The other one is about 2 1/2 miles. It has beautiful views and lots of Interesting formations. Don Robinson really gave the state of Missouri a great gift when he left his property to the state. It's somewhere around 5 to 700 acres with some very interesting flora and fauna that you can't find elsewhere in the state. It's a shame to see his old house in the condition it's in. I understand that the state is going to try to rebuild it. I can remember in the 1980s hanging out at Dan's house and skateboarding his enormous in-ground pool. He was quite the character. The levee overlooks all the shopping stores off of THF and Boone's Crossing so you can easily park and walk over or simply park on the gravel levee parking lot. TIP: This is area is also known as Dee Koestering Park. If you do a Yelp search by the park name,…read moreit won't come up. The paved trail is actually a roadway. There are two parking areas. The first one is near the entrance along Marshall Road. The second one is handicapped accessible parking only. However, at the beginning of the paved trail/roadway there's a sign that states, "No vehicle traffic." So why is the 2nd parking lot there if the parks department doesn't want anyone driving on the road to get to it? The paved trail leads to an overlook. There's an excellent display of interpretive signs. Hikers can also see some of the quarry blocks and ruins from the overlook. In addition, there's a footpath that quickly peters out near some ruins. After investigating the ruins, there are several possible trails, but one is never completely sure because there are no trail markers except at the beginning. For example, there's a relatively new footbridge with no clear trail to get to it. Another walker on the roadway wanted to know how I got down to the footbridge because he's never seen anyone else on it. I had to navigate down an extremely steep and slippery hillside to reach it that contained loose rock. Not far from the footbridge I found several culverts. One of them still had a frozen waterfall left over from the recent snow storm. There's also a small waterfall along the creek. On either side of the park, there are houses and a lot of road noise. In addition, there are two sets of railroad tracks. NOTE: Other than a few park benches, there are no restrooms or other services.

It is quite the walk from the Marshall road parking lot but I think it's worth it. Great exercise if you're looking for a hilly walk. They also have a handicap accessible parking lot closer to the outlook.
