I used to live around the corner from this place which made it very attractive to take my Mini for a 70K maintenance check. I can't tell you how many ways I tried to contact them - email, no response - phone calls, no answer- walked by and left a note in their mailbox, nothing. I recently had my 2010 Honda Accord in for routine servicing, e.g., oil and filter change, as I have with George's previously every 6 months or so. An addition this time was diagnosing a humming noise from the front wheels. George's diagnosed correctly that the noise was due to bearings and made the repairs. Jack, the manager and son of the founder of this family owned business, kept in touch with me during the process. The work was finished on time. The bill was fair for work done. Purchased some tires from Tire Rack and had them sent to George's to mount and balance on a net set of wheels from Italy. One of the wheels had a slight ding in it but it's possible it was from before installation and the manufacturer has agreed to take care of that blemished wheel. Aside from that, which may not have had anything to do with George's, they were fast, accommodated a quick turnaround, and fairly priced. Will definitely return. read more

I've used George's three times now. When I first moved here, the local dealer quoted me several thousand dollars worth of repairs. I took it to Jack at George's, and he broke down what I needed to repair then and what could wait. When I went back to get the repairs done, he had the information already available and provided top notch service. When he identified another issue, he worked with my warranty company and had it resolved in two hours. I liked the customer service attitude that made me feel like one of the family. Jack is a lifesaver! I was visiting DC from out of town when my car started making an awful grinding noise every time I decelerated. I called George's at 12 PM on a Saturday in hopes of same-day emergency service. Without hesitation Jack told me he would be happy to help. Not once have I ever felt they have tried to screw me over or convince me I needed something that I didn't. $1000+ of work- read on: i have mixed feelings about this place. I went because of the extra positive reviews. I brought my beat up Audi here due to an ABS light coming on and water leaking through the car from all the rain lately. Turns out my axle was broken, I needed to replace a sensor and transfer seal shaft. Pricey work but I can't do it myself so hey. Boy do they charge for everything. I was charged labor for installing a lightbulb. I was scared to even look at them wrong for fear of being charged. But alas- they ran my gas out and probably was not going to tell me that my car was ready. For that reason 2 stars down. They could improve on communication and for someone paying over $1000 of work- i Atleast expect to get my gas back in the car or cut me some slack on the lightbulb. Not returning. read more

I know, whenever I leave her with Jack, she is in good hands, and that he will do a first rate job with whatever is needed. I have been getting my car serviced at George's Foreign Car Service since 2015, and both the father George and his son Jack are absolutely wonderful. They are so trust worthy, honest about quotes and they will take the time out to explain things going on with your car. The main reason why I go to their shop is because they do excellent work and they don't over charge you. I recommend anyone with a mini cooper to get their car fixed by Jack. I love my mechanic. I need to alert fellow car owners to a bad experience I had at George's so it doesn't happen to anyone else. I've been to George's several times before, as they're the closest shop that works on 70s classic cars like mine. When I go there, Jack usually assess the situation, then gives me a list of parts needed for the repair. I take my car home, order the parts and bring the car back to him when the parts arrive. In June, my classic was running as smoothly as it ever had. It just got a new carburetor and was running and shifting perfectly. I'd just done several road trips in the car. I had some more local weekend drives planned, but in the span of a day, my car went from cruising effortlessly to immobilized in my driveway, and all my summer driving plans were put on hold. I brought the car to George's and asked Jack if he would please check the fluid levels in the gearbox and the rear differential, as I knew they were due. I dropped the car off on Sunday evening, and the mechanics looked at it on Monday. I went back Monday after work to talk to Jack. He told me that a few of the transmission seals needed a refresh, and described the work as "easy-peasy". I wrote down the names of the parts I needed, got the keys, and got a friend to drive me back to the shop later. The shop was closed when I returned, but I had the keys to my car, so I drove it home, about 3 miles. The whole way home, shifting was extremely difficult and it sounded awful. The car made an unsettling, loud grinding noise from under my feet. I barely made it home. I called Jack the next day and asked, "What's wrong with my car?" "I don't know," he said, "you tell me." I described what was happening and he claimed his mechanics hadn't done anything but look at it. I've since had it looked at by another shop, and I now know that they drained the transmission, neglected to fill it back up, and returned the car to me without any oil whatsoever in the gearbox. Had they let me know this, I'd never have picked it up or tried to drive it. My gearbox is now fried, my gears worn down to scrap metal, and the repair is going to cost me several thousand dollars. This goes without saying, but my summer driving season is over. Please be careful. I know that Jack has a lot of great reviews on here, and I have had good repairs done there in the past, but this one oversight by him or a member of his staff is going to cost me a lot of money, and the disappointment of not having my car during prime summer classic car driving season. I've decided I'm not bringing my car to George's anymore. read more

I have been picking Jack's brain for a few years about what foreign cars to buy. I finally pulled the trigger on a 2001 Porche 911 Carrera 4. In the end it was determined the car was a lemon with multiple issues. Don't let the high score reviews fool. I noticed one reviewer who had a perfectly running car needing some basic work pick up his car and it felt like it was going to break down. Well, he's absolutely correct. George's purposfully tampers with cars in good condition so you will have to get more work. I needed basic brakes for my BMW, he charged me $500+ dollars supposedly for new brakes but all he did was clean my old brakes. After 1 month I called and told him my brakes were wearing and why is that for new brakes which suppose to last 1 to 2 yrs depending on driving habit. So I took it back and at first he was trying to say it was something else which I knew was bulls...because my car was regularly serviced by BMW. So than he of course when he saw i wasn't buying it said oh i don't know what was wrong but he "serviced brakes". Well 1 week later the brake light came on and I called and guess what he blocked my phone number. I took it to BMW and they said my brake sensor was broken. Wonder how that happened after having my brakes changed for 10 yrs. Well I called from a different number and to George's surprise I demanded my money back. This shop is if anything but unethical, hustlers, and they don't really know how to fix all foreign cars. Not to mention he charges the same prices as the dealership. read more

I took my 2002 BMW x5 for emplacement of the door handle carrier on the driver side. Jack seemed to be very knowledgeable about BMWs having with this kind of problems. I had ordered the part already. Jack replaced and fixed the door handle at a very reasonable cost. In addition, he checked other areas of the car at no costs. I highly recommend this service shop. I've been meaning to leave a review for George's shop for a long time, as he has been servicing my car for over 2 years. I have lived in a number of different places and have often had trouble finding a reliable shop to go to for every repair. This is the first mechanic that I've gone out of my way to exclusively bring my car to for fixes, as George's quality is top notch, turnaround time can't be beat (fixes are always done the same day), and George has helped a number of times when I was in a crunch (replaced a bulb on a taillight one morning, no charge). This is also absolutely not a corporate location like Midas, Meineke, etc. This is a family run operation, and as such you are treated like a friend rather than just another customer. The only thing to be aware of is that George's hours are not set, he usually opens sometime between 8am and 9am each day, and will stay open until the work is done, so there is no set closing time. I can't comment on other establishments in Old Town, as I have only serviced my car here, but compared to mechanics in other towns that I have lived in, George is by far the best. read more

Having been disappointed once again with the service to my car by a local shop I was searching for a another mechanic. I stopped at several shops and had conversations about my car and the possible issues. I will say that I was impressed with 2 or 3 different places so it was not easy to make the final selection. When I stopped at George's I met Jack, who even though was very busy had time to take a few minutes and talk to me. I found that Jack was not only very knowledgeable but, even more importantly, enthusiastic. I am also a small business owner, in my opinion the most important attribute is attitude. It was apparent that Jack likes what he does, actually he probably loves it. Who better to leave your car with than someone who loves working on it. I know this is important because I love what I do and because I love it, my customers get great service. I've only used George's once but I was so impressed that I now consider Jack my mechanic and feel confident that I will not have to be looking for another one in a year or two.
