Henderson NC has very few sit down dinner options and George's is a pleasant surprise. Located downtown in an historic building with ample parking in their own lot. The place is nicely decorated and low key with a comfortable dining area and a bar. Reasonable prices. Wide variety of dishes on the menu from Greek fare to steak and pork chops to pasta and pizza plus chef specials. Very attentive staff. The only other comparable option in this town is a Ruby Tuesdays. Avoid the Ribeyes Steakhouse at all costs. read more

I really enjoyed lunch here! The service was excellent and the ambiance was nice, although a bit dark. I ordered the eggplant parm sub with fries and it was really good. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop special with onion/cheese/yumminess on top and it was mouth watering-ly good. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in the area! read more

We ordered our food, got drinks... everything is okay. But wait... you rated 1 Star? Here it goes. I order steak and ask for it rare. Food takes forever, sides come out wrong and sadly very bland. Ask butter, a single packet comes. Steak is beyond well done. I cut into it and eat the slightest sliver. No seasoning. Server clearly sees what happens and asks "how is the streak, good?" I tell her, "sadly, no. It's well done." She responds "yes, I saw it was burned" ... why the hell would you serve it then???? She tells me she can discount my meal. I don't eat the sides, the steak or anything on the plate she brought me. I finish the appetizer because nothing is right and seems to just be freezer made entrees. She discounts the steak by $4 for a meal I ate maybe $0.03 of the plate. Not cool. The worst part though? The server, African American woman in her 30's literally begging for tips. Going into long sob stories about how she never makes any money on Christmas. I was going to tip her well anyways but the service was poor. She didn't earn the big tip but got it - but she made the entire table feel reaaaaaally awkward. Really unprofessional. I won't be going back. read more

I visit George's at least 3 times a month and I get the same thing each time. So today when I ordered my food and checked it....it DID NOT look like it usually does. So I ask why!!!! I was told they were trying different/new things on the menu. I'm all for expanding and adding new items but DO NOT change or alternate the items George's is known for. Our waitress, Penny, was awesome she was very accommodating and took the time to really make sure our food was excellent and was even kind to us with our three children and allowed them to be children. As with most of the other reviewers, I found Georges to be as close to fine dining as you're going to get in Henderson. Nice dining room or bar with TV if you prefer. Pretty wide array of menu items and I intended to try the ribs but the pizza looked so good I ended up getting one of Georges specials. It was delicious and the crust was to die for. Nice salad bar too, with delicious croutons and everything fresh and well lit. This is definitely going on my list of regulars when in Henderson, and that's a small list. read more

I have been a patron of Georges for at least 6-7 years now and used to LOVE them. Now not so much. The wait staff is wonderful, I truly am amazed that that quality of service can still be found in Henderson. Most of the managers I have had contact with... WONDERFUL....most of the employees I have had contact with there are friendly and make you feel like family.... the owner and the head cook a whole different story. He gives me the creeps(the last one did to, but he was friendly)and he is incredibly arrogant. She is very off putting. She try's to be friendly(I think) and it is just awkward and uncomfortable. It's like she feels like she has a million better uses of her time than connecting with her customers. The food though is pretty good. Not as amazing as the original menu, and not as good since they got the new head cook(you can always tell when he's in the kitchen, and when it's the other fellas), but good. Portion sizes seem to vary. Somethings are a great value(the pizza is heaven at a decent price) and other things are entirely over priced, The restaurant itself looks nice from the outside, but very outdated on the inside. It's still the same as it was almost 20 years ago if my memory serves, The restrooms are usually clean, but are dark(or at least the ladies is) and the doors do not lock properly or are hard to lock. The restaurant itself seems clean, although I have some concern over the hanging rugs and overhead beams. The last few times I dined in the beams looked like they hadn't been dusted in quite some time as well as the rugs appeared dusty and I spotted some cobwebs. I kind of felt something may fall in my food. All in all the amazing staff(and pizza) makes it worth it if your wanting to go somewhere different. They are great at their jobs even on their bad days and will go above and beyond for you every time! . read more

The atmosphere is wonderful. I love sitting out on the covered patio. Fantastic! Good food - but a bit too confusing as to any one "specialty" or type of food. I think they were trying to cover too many types of food when coming up with the menu. If they streamlined it a bit, they would find that the cooks are happier and the clients would be happier with tailored, more limited choices. Overall, the food was good, but it COULD be "great" if they'd stop trying to be an American/Italian/Greek/Chinese/Southern Fried/Burger Joint food restaurant. Best news, "Only Place to go to eat in Henderson" Henderson always seems to have just one place for other than fast-food dining -- and only one. George's currently is it! Do yourself a favor: Order one of the specials or something that takes some effort, because George's does them well. The pasta, pizza and burgers are okl but pretty ordinary. Don't bother ordering draft beer because either George's doesn't care about a nice beer before dinner or even after work, or the person responsible for maintaining "fresh" beer is lacking something. Also, if you are one of the unlucky 1% of the healthy population or 5% of the population with asthma, be careful at Georges and stay away from the salad bar. Having recently eaten at Georges (05/03/2014), I went into a sulfite-induced anaphylactic shock but was lucky to have an epipen available when I reached home. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the use of sulfites on fruits and vegetables that are to be eaten raw (as with a salad bar)―and the vast majority of those in the food service industry honor the prohibition. Unfortunately, current FDA regulations do not require managers of food service establishments to disclose whether sulfites were used in food preparation. Georges uses sulfites, but does not disclose their use. read more

George`s restaurant in Henderson and it`s surrounding is a great restaurant indeed. first of all, very kind, respective and friendly staff they have got. although I was there in rush hours at lunch break, they served my order in time, and my steak was grilled perfect. Above all their special sauce was a different and delicious experience for me. if you`re a fan of good food like me, you must test their wide variety dishes from Greek and American cuisine. believe in me I am certainly gonna go there again and again. read more

I think we may have gone on the wrong day. My wife and I attended the annual Show, Shine and Drag event downtown Henderson. Before leaving we decided to try Georges Restaurant. Once seated, it was a long time before anybody waited on us. In fact, the Bartender ended up being our waiter. He really tried hard and was cordial; but, service was lacking overall. My wife had to take her soda to the bar to get the first refill. Food was OK, but not great. The wife ordered baked ravioli, but didnt get any bread. I ordered the ribs with a baked potato that was not completely cooked. It wasn't bad, just not anything to shout about. Atmosphere was nice. read more

A coworker and I visited George's while out in the field. We both got the Italian panini with the homemade chips. The sandwich and the chips were great. I have patronized George's for a while now. The pizza is fantastic as is the Ribeye panini. Although much of the staff is wonderful, there is an occasional delay with service. I highly recommend Georges, but if you're in a hurry, make sure you let your server know ahead of time. read more

I travel from Atlanta to Delaware several times a year, and Henderson is just about at the midway point of the trip. George's is a real find. I have eaten there three times now, and both the food and service have been very good. Tonight's special was roast duck breast with pineapple, which was delicious, the duck meet nice and red and juicy in the middle. We ended up at George's by chance; we were heading to another restaurant, but when we got there it was closed. We remembered seeing George's on the way in, so we decided to give it a shot. From the outside appearance, we weren't expecting much; it's very plain. After stepping inside however, we realized it was really nice place to eat with a very nice atmosphere. It appears to be an old renovated building, with brick walls exposed on the inside, and good lighting. The menu has a little bit of everything including steaks, seafood, Italian pastas, fish, and chicken. I ordered fried shrimp with steamed vegetables, loaded baked potato, and side salad. Everything was incredible! The shrimp were huge and plentiful. The serving sizes were just right for an adult male and everything tasted wonderful. The service was outstanding as well. Others at my table ordered fettuccine alfredo, chicken marsala, and baby back ribs. Everyone was pleased with their meals; even my 2 year old finicky daughter who got the kid's spaghetti. Oh, almost forgot to mention the bread is garlic seasoned Texas toast. For a family of 4 plus 1 kid, the total bill was $72, which isn't bad. My wife and I have always enjoyed eating at George's. Last night, however, was a different story. We had not been to George's in awhile and things have changed; all for the worse. Our fried calamari came out perfect with the marinara sauce, a good start. Then small clear plastic salad bowls were delivered for our visit to the salad bar (a new addition). The bar was mostly very plain salad fixings with most of the offerings pre-made; the eggs were bought already cooked, the ham was very low quality, the lettuce looked old, etc. I call it a lazy man's salad bar that is hastily put out and ignored. My wife's prime rib was strange looking in color, texture and taste. I guess they buy them already cooked and nuke them, she could not eat hers and I tried one bite and spit it into a napkin it was so bad. My shrimp alfredo came in a large bowl with the fettuccine drowning in sauce. The five shrimp still had the tails on so you had to fish them out and tear the tails off getting sauce all over your fingers. The shrimp had absolutely no taste. No bread was ever offered. We noticed some structural changes which made the dining room very small and the front entrance at terrible bottleneck. We should have known that if at 6 pm on a Saturday night and you only have 3 tables and no one at the bar you are in trouble. I gave the one star for the server who was the only positive part of this experience. My bill for the two of us came to $50. In Henderson, NC that is an expensive dinner. Do not go to this restaurant! I am embarrassed I used to freely recommend George's to all my friends. That will change to a "stay away" comment. I was pleased we did not get food poisoning the way the food looked and tasted. This place will be out of business soon. read more

I have eaten here previously and it was an overall good experience. Just recently they began to have a DJ on weekends and we have heard that it's relatively enjoyable so we had a large group of our friends going to check it out. When we got there at 945 we were a few minutes early the DJ didn't start playing until 10 and we had a few others meeting us so we could all catch up for a few. At around 10 our friends were still not present and one of the guys from "security" approached our truck and asked "how many beers did we have" we turned on the light and sure enough had none and told him that and he responded being smart "oh okay" and we told him we were just waiting on the rest of our party, a few other rude words were said. 15 more minutes went by and our friends just called saying they got lost and would be there in a matter of minutes. He approached our car again claiming that we would be in trouble if the ALE came. Why? Because we're sitting in our vehicle and not drinking? He then told us that we needed to come inside that we could no longer sit in our vehicle and said some other very disrespectful things. We decided then to leave just as our friends arrived. We were going to give this place a shot and have some fun and buy some drinks but because of how rude the man was in treating us I am never returning to George's to dine or drink again. You have to respect your customers to make a business successful. We left and went to Twisters which is under new management and had a great experience with them and everyone should give them a try because the new owners are great! read more
