Raced to get there before closing at 2:30pm. Got there at 2:19pm. Was going to do a carry out order. I like a lot on the menu. Was rudely told we are closed when I walked in the door. Called after leaving and asked for George. Not there. Was told they closed early because they ran out of some sides. Doubt they ran out of potatoe salad! This is a little gem right off of Highway 321 in SC. It sits nestled next to a little farmers market. We stopped in for some breakfast and boy did we ever get the most amazing home cooked breakfast I've had in a very long time. The food was cooked to order, they gave you a mound of bacon and the portions are all very large and generous. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It may be a small restaurant, but the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff is outstanding. It's like stepping back in time where everyone knew everyone and if they didn't, they treat you like they do. This is a great spot for families, individual and couples. It has some outside seating as well. Booth and bar seating. Absolutely a place I will be a repeat customer. 5 star for certain. All home cooked like grandmas kitchen. read more

Well.. another bad experience and another owner or manager that gets his feelings hurt when you write an honest review based on a half a dozen experiences. Food has been incredibly inconsistent. Really good at times and just below average dog food at others. Go to Waffle House or Dennys if you want a good fresh hot breakfast without an attitude. This will never be acceptable behavior from anyone who calls and makes inappropriate remarks to me. Or false accusations. How can a manager make up such lies and or assumptions without being present at the time of my actual visit?? Unbelievable! read more

Another successful shot in the dark. While trying to make it home to Michigan from New Orleans I happened on George's Southside. Truthfully, I was aiMing for a different place, but when I saw this joint I knew I needed to make a u-turn. If all the Denny's and Wendy's and the rest of the chain places closed, it would be worth a world of 3-1/2 star places like George's. I arrived mid morning on a Saturday and the spot was hoppin'! The server got my drink order right away, and, as I wasn't super starved, I opted for the country style steak biscuit. I added grits to the order as well. The biscuit was tender and fresh, and the fried steak was covered with brown gravy. Flavor was fine, not too salty, even if the steak was just warm(?). The girl kept the coffee filled, and checked on me regularly, making sure I was good. Now, when I come in a place like this I don't expect, nor do I hope for, a Michelin three-star experience. I just hope for retro decor, warm, friendly service, plentiful coffee refills with real dairy cream (not powdered glycerides), and a house or regional specialty or two. George's has all of these. So, even though the steak was a little cool, I'm still giving 4 stars. This is a place to stop if you love Guy Fieri's "Drive-Ins, Diners, and Dives." This IS real America. Skip the McWhoppers, and head over to George's. You'll be glad you did!! read more

This was a great little find. The owner calls it Southern Mediterranean. He walks around and talks with everyone. Reminds me of some of the small local country food joints back home. Small. Quaint. But the food was great. Price point is good. Would go back. I am gluten free and was able to get a HB steak with onions, pots without gravy, greens and applesauce. It was all very good. The better half got a lamb gyro and steak fries- also great. Desserts looked wonderful but didn't get any. read more

I've been struggling to write a review for this restaurant. I love supporting local businesses and helping drive traffic for them, so I often find it difficult to leave negative reviews. My husband and I came here a couple of months ago. I never send food back, but I ended up sending an entire plate of food back because it was all pretty awful. I ordered the chicken and dumplings with macaroni and cheese and greens. The chicken and dumplings were horribly salty, the dumplings were thin and crispy, and the chicken had an off taste. The macaroni and cheese was obviously microwaved. The dish it was served it was EXTREMELY hot, and the cheese that had been sprinkled on top was burnt to the dish. My husband ordered a patty melt with fries and offered me some of it after I put my plate to the side. I found the patty melt enjoyable, so I ended up ordering one as well. It was very good and, most importantly, fresh made. The staff here is extremely friendly. Our waitress gave us no problems at all once she noticed I was not eating. My husband and I were just going to split the patty melt, but she took the food back without question and offered to bring me something else. This probably isn't a bad place to grab a burger or patty melt if you're passing through, but unfortunately I won't be making special trips. read more

I've been here twice and had fast friendly service both time. Today I arrived at 5pm and ordered the steak tips& peppers on their lunch special with baked potato salad & tea for around $8. Salad was fresh not wilted, the baked potato was a nice size dinner potato not one of those puny excuses for a potato some places offer, and it was perfectly cooked. Soft warm and moist on the inside. And my steak tips were served within 15 min of my order and tender and tasty I didn't even need sauce. I would say that anyone can have a bad day, and suggest you give them a try, if you're not looking for something fancy. They are a diner after all read more

We stumbled upon this gem of a find on our way to Charleston SC. It's located next to a gas stop and is super unpretentious. Good home cooking in a diner setting. Great value for money, deliciously done and lashings of that famous Southern hospitality. Their specials come with a choice of protein plus 3 sides. In this age of rising prices and inflation, George's prices were extremely reasonable and the portions generous. They also served cornbread to go with your meal. Our chicken fried steak came smothered in a white gravy and the potato salad tasted fresh and homemade. My parents ordered the fried flounder and were equally pleased with their meal. In addition to potato salad, we also ordered turnip greens, rutabaga, mashed potato with gravy as well as coleslaw. Staff were very friendl, fast and on point with service and even ran after us when we forgot about our to go tea. Highly recommend for a quick bite in a down to earth diner setting! read more

I'm kind of sad this place hasn't been reviewed since 2015. We went on the recommend of a friend whose a frequent visitor, despite the bad reviews, most especially since I was in dire need of comfort food and Thursday is chicken and dumplings. Smoking is only outside the building now. You might pass a couple smoking as you go in. It's the stereotypical American diner off the beaten path a bit. The staff is very nice, efficient, and attentive. My kid and I both got the Thursday special, and if you clean your plate of the first pile of dumplings (which they serve over rice, this is new to me) they automatically bring you one more refill. Personally, I make chicken and dumplings like my grandmother did. Secretly, I'm smug as hell about mine too. I tried the ones at Cracker Barrel once and could immediately tell the noodles were frozen. This is about as close to my own I've ever had in a restaurant. They were much thinner than I'm used to making or eating, but then my grandmother wasn't the greatest at depth perception and I think we have 3 generations who like fat dumplings because she could never figure out how to get them as thin as she wanted. It was definitely not a healthy meal by any stretch with no veg in sight, but for therapeutic carb heaven, I highly recommend and intend to go back to try more variety. I saw this place during a lunch break and decided I'd try it out. You never know... some of those local places are the best! However, this place was NOT the best. It was the most disgusting food I've ever been served. I ordered the country fried steak with broccoli casserole, spiced apples and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was edible enough. The "steak" was not fried at all and the spiced apples were cold. I've had frozen dinners better than this. It was totally disgusting. They also still allow people to smoke in the restaurant. There were people laughing loudly and yelling back and forth to each other near the counter and don't forget the country music blaring on the tv in the corner. I've driven by so many times and finally popped in for lunch today. It's got a nice old-school diner/meat-and-three type of atmosphere. The waitress was friendly, the food came to our table quickly and piping hot, and I don't think my sweet tea ever dropped below half full. This isn't a gourmet spot and food snobs may not enjoy, but I think it's a great example of what it is, a friendly spot to get some good country cooking for a good price. I've lived in Cayce for 10 years, and only eaten here twice. The first time my wife picked up salads w/ chicken. Not mind blowing, but went for breakfast after my family's "Turkey Trot" on Thanksgiving and have a new spot for breakfast. Our polite (and very pregnant) server told us her favorites. She said she loved the onion sausage split and grilled. I was already thinking the onion sausage, so this tip was awesome. they take the sausage out of the casing and smash it on the flat top... SO GOOD!. Basket of biscuits? Yes please. Grits were way better than most greasy spoons. Wife had the cornbeef and loved it. Portions are large and in charge. Can't wait to go back! read more

I have passed by this place numerous times, and never stopped, thinking it looked like a dump. Well, today, we stopped. First, let me confirm, it DOES look like a dump! However, I really enjoyed the food. We were there for breakfast, but was surprised to learn that some of the lunch items were also available. My spouse had puddin', grits, and eggs over easy. The puddin' was just as it should be. Crispy on the outside and soft internally. Eggs were cooked to perfection. My boys had "the "the Gamecock." Again, pancakes and bacon were cooked to perfection. I had the fried chicken sammy. It had just the right amount of mayo, and was served with what appeared to be a locally grown, and vine ripened tomato, that was delicious. They staff was friendly, with a side of sasssss! Looks like they have quite a robust lunch menu as well. Very pleased with our visit, and will certainly be back. read more
