We used Carmichael-Hemperley for my mother-in-law in January of 2022. I always try and include…read moresomething positive in my reviews but that is tough with this one. I will say that the staff was nice and receptive to our concerns. However, I would strongly recommend finding a different funeral home for your loved ones. Here is a list of our frustrations. 1. During the planning stage, Bill Slaughter, was totally unprepared to help us plan. It felt like this was his first time planning a funeral. He left the room multiple time to check availability and ask questions. 2. We had to write the obituary without any guidance. Every other time I've done this, the funeral home has helped us write it. 3. The flowers they offered were dated and expensive -- we got super nice flowers for much less from a local florist. 4. One of there "features" is a photo slide show in the chapel and reception area - they wanted something like $100 to make DVDs to show the photos. My first question was "DVDs???" Why are you still using DVDs? My next question was "can we make them for $5 ourselves at CVS?" They answer to the first question was a look of confusion and the answer to the second was yes. 5. When we arrived, they showed me their very outdated and small TVs for showing the DVDs and left me to search the entire facility for the correct remote to operate it. 6. As I was relearning to operate a DVD player from my youth (OK - that's an exaggeration -- but really why are they still using DVDs for a slide show?) I notice that my mother-in-law's beautiful oak casket was sitting on an undraped gurney which looked ridiculous. I said to Bill, your going to skirt the casket right? He said, we don't normally but we can if you like." YES - dear Lord YES! This is a funeral not an autopsy. 7. General confusion about the order of service. Again, it felt like Bill's first time at the rodeo! 8. We selected the music in advance and Bill assured use that his team would make a CD with the music on it. Wait what?? You are still using a CD player??? Again - a look of confusion. My spouse delivered a beautiful eulogy that made several references to the music we selected. Sadly the CD they burned didn't work and the audio system did have an aux cable or Bluetooth so unfortunately we the references were lost. 9. The facility was a mess. Multiple roof leaks with damage to the ceiling plus shabby carpet. 10. And finally -- they collected payment as we drove to the cemetery as if they were cashiers at a fast food restaurant. I strongly recommend finding a different funeral home for your loved ones.

I suppose reviewing a funeral home on yelp may seem a bit disrespectful or inappropriate; however,…read morethe price, accommodations & staff at Carmichael-Hemperley are unparalleled!! Covid hit my family very hard and I could never put into words how professional, empathetic & lovely the experience was at Carmichael-Hemperley! God willing you ever need a funeral home's services, but if you do PLEASE give them a try!

No hot water in the restrooms. They brought out 2 space heaters. The breaker kept tripping on one of them. The carpet looked as though it hadent been cleaned in quite some time in the chapel area. I would not recommend this place.

My mother bravely went to Tara Garden Chapel to preplan her cremation, etc. She paid $1000.00 down…read moreand was to finance the rest. Well, Tara Garden Chapel took a $1000.00 from her on that day and the rest was supposed to be small monthly payments out of her bank account, but the finance company a couple weeks later also took a $1000.00 out of her bank account for the down payment. So my mom has paid a $2000.00 down payment that was only supposed to be $1000.00. When she called them instead of immediately fixing their mistake, they have been giving her the run around for almost a month now. My mom is in a weakened state medically and she is an older person who just lost her husband. She keeps hoping that they will do the right thing, but they won't cause ALL they care about is money and not her. They have committed fraud here and so now we (her kids) are giving them one more day to fix it or we are gonna have to get involved. I will never do business with these people again and I wish my mother would cancel her whole darn contract with them because they are nothing but crooks! I hate to think that when my mother passes away I will have to deal with these slimeballs after what they have put her through. She lives off of social security and $1000.00 is a lot of money!!!
