They had to enter cemeteries through back gates, and even wade through swamps to conduct funeral services. They were told "If you don't' like it, start your own cemetery." For starters, funeral homes are hoping when you bury your loved one you'll fall into the 1 stop shop trap. Yes, I'm mourning but just because I'm mourning doesn't mean I'm NOT going to do my due diligence and shop around for the best price! I did just that when the funeral home quoted their coffin price and I about fell out my chair. I got on my phone and Googled some nearby casket stores near the funeral home..Voila, I found Atlanta Casket Store. The owner Mr. Washington is such a delight to work with and though I don't want to see him anytime soon, I highly recommend this store if you want something nice for your loved one without breaking the bank. We also got my father's headstone from here and the price was more than fair. Let's just say he beat the competitors by 60%, even by getting my Dad's picture installed on the headstone. **Note**It's located at the sketchy end of Glenwood Rd, but Mr. Washington's prices, level of service, and the quality of his coffin and headstones made it all worthwhile.

You might be able to see the Hart Family Cemetery from the window as your plane taxis to or from…read moreRunway 10. It's there located just to the west of taxiway Sierra. It is the furthest runway from the terminal so you might have a chance while you eagerly await the opportunity to take off your seatbelt or maybe you're waiting for the flight to start. Hart Family Cemetery contains family plots first used by the Hart family in 1860. It is completely engulfed on all sides by the raised earthwork of the runways and is surrounded by warning signs and the intimidating razor wire of the airport perimeter fence. Hart family oral histories indicate that they did not fully support the Southern states' succession during the Civil War and that William Hart, who is buried here, died while traveling to Washington, D.C. to receive a pardon for deserting the Confederate army. The cemetery is in good condition though some of the smaller fences need repair and attention. Weeds have been pulled and the grass has been mowed. Many of the headstones are legible. Despite those imposing warning signs, the cemetery is completely accessible with Liberty Street providing an open thoroughfare to a small parking area. Of course, don't climb the fences.
