Phoenix, and their new female giraffe getting friendly
    Natalie A.

Georgia Safari Conservation Park (GSCP) is the best-kept secret in Georgia, and not for long! My review is of both the park and safari tour, and the overnight accommodations. I booked an overnight stay at Georgian Safari Conservation Park for my husband's 51st birthday in their Honeymoon Hideaway room. My package included a safari tour for both of us the next morning before checking out. I found GSCP through Time's 100 best places in the world list for 2025. In it, GSCP was highlighted for their conservation efforts to protect animals ranging from critically endangered to least concern, as well as their beautiful overnight accommodations that mimic being on safari in Africa. Upon confirmation of your booking you're sent waivers to sign for staying on the property and the safari tour itself. I signed immediately, but upon check-in they also needed a hard copy, but it took 30 seconds to get the paperwork out of the way. Madison, GA is 1 hour east of Atlanta, making this very easy for out-of-town travelers to rent a car at ATL airport, or make the drive from ATL or another city in the South. .3 miles off I-20 you'll see a clearly marked and highly visible lighted entrance way at night, to GSCP. Upon arriving for check-in, guests are asked to call security, who will walk them through opening the gates and the 1.5 mile drive to the lodge. Enjoy your first views of the pastures and vast vistas that await you. If you're lucky, you'll spot Cornelius the Ostrich fluffing his feathers (read: flirting) and following your car. After a smooth check-in we were sent back down a small gravel road to the parking lot of the Safari tents. The Honeymoon Hideaway (Tent 102: Ostrich) was tucked away from the main lodge and had sweeping views of the pastures which house Zebras, Ostriches, Emus, Watusis, and if you use the provided binoculars the one of the 4 reticulated giraffes! Our tent was appointed with 2 sets of binoculars, a small kitchenette with glassware, plates, and cutlery, a sitting area with a television, an indoor bathroom with a deep soaking tub and separate toilet and shower rooms, and an outdoor shower and bathtub. The bed in our tent was hands down the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on in my life! GSCP worked with a local company in South Africa to assemble and build the tents, after shipping them from Johannesburg! The bedding, artwork and fixtures are all thoughtfully curated. The pillows ranged from firm to soft and provided a sleep so deep I missed the sunrise in the morning, even after we left the curtains open! We spent the majority of our time sipping champagne we brought outside on the front deck, marveling at the animals and taking photos before dinner. Madison's town center is a 7 minute drive down the road after you exit the park (10 minutes to get from the tent to the main entrance). The next morning, we checked out at 8:59am for our 9am tour, savoring every last second in the tent and writing in their guest book. Our safari tour was a surprise VIP-esque tour for just the two of us! Caitlin and Tyler did a spectacular job walking us through the giraffe barn, past the rhinoceros area, and seeing two surprise other animals! We fed Phoenix, the giraffe an entire bucket of lettuce, and met Griff, the other resident male giraffe, along with their two brand new to GSCP giraffes poking their heads out at us. After boarding the truck, we set out on our safari tour. Being just my husband and I, we got to ask every question that came to our mind, and Tyler and Caitlin tailored the tour to us and our interests. They left no stone unturned, no pathway unfollowed, and allowed for an unbridled view of the animals. After we got back, we purchased some small souvenirs for our return, said our goodbyes, and made the trip home, including a goodbye send off from Cornelius. I have two small critiques of the entire stay: I would have liked a door on the toilet room for a touch more privacy, but we just asked the other to leave the tent if needed, and I also wish checkout was 12pm instead of 11am so I could go back to the tent and pack up my last items and perhaps cool off with one more shower. Otherwise, this was a flawless trip I won't soon forget! GSCP is doing incredible work to hold the animals at their facility, keep them safe, and provide as close to a natural environment as possible! We loved our time and have already told friends and family near and far of our 5 star experience! We can't wait to return to see the next phases of their master plan of bringing the park to as many patrons as possible! Madison, GA is a town that needs to be lifted some more for its charming attractions, the GSCP, and Mad Hospitality Group which is working hard to revitalize the town! Wow, what an awesome place to visit that's only a short drive from Gwinnett County. This new one-year-old conservative safari in Madison GA right off Interstate 20 is well worth the road trip for both the young and old. The staff is incredibly nice and knowledgable. Our safari guide did a great job of story telling and educating in fun and humorous manner. Our group looks forward visiting again as the center has plans to grow add to their current herds of animals.

Up close to some beautiful animals. The tour takes you into the Giraffe barn where they give some information and allow to to feed son lettuce then you go to see some other animal before boarding their 24 seat transportation trolly where you go out into the containment area to see beautiful animals from many corners of our planet

We visited on Halloween Day (October 31) and spent over $800 expecting a fun, family-friendly safari experience. Unfortunately, it was not what was advertised. The environment was not kid- or sensory-friendly -- normal child behavior was discouraged, and when my child became overstimulated, we were asked to leave before the experience ended. The tour lasted about 3 hours with only two bathroom breaks and no food or drinks allowed on the bus, even though guests are seated for over an hour at a time. There's no play area or open space for kids to move around, making it difficult for families with small children. Our tour guide started off friendly, but by the end became rude and impatient, and the zookeepers leading the tour were unfriendly and dismissive. The overall atmosphere was judgmental, and several guests and staff gave disapproving looks when the kids were simply being kids.we weee the only family with kids on this tour . Honestly, this specific tour should be marketed as an adults-only luxury experience, not a family activity. While the property is beautiful, it is not inclusive or welcoming for young children or kids with disabilities . My kids would have had far more fun at the zoo, where they could explore, play, and actually enjoy themselves.

I had an amazing visit at this park they have so many different kinds of species including my favorite which is a zebra. The very friendly staff and a tour guider was named Jamie and she was great. If you want something to do I definitely would recommend coming. Great for all ages

Our family of 7 yayas absolutely loved our Safari. It was such a gorgeous day and the animals were plentiful and frisky. The truck was comfortable and the tour guide was entertaining. Highly recommend!

We came here and stayed in the safari tents for two nights and were not disappointed! Check in was a breeze, and finding our tent was super easy. We spent most of the first day in Madison. A very historically rich town with great local restaurants and shops. Day 2 we did the actual safari. Our guides, Tyler and Jamie were amazing. They had an answer for every question, also made it a very good experience. We were very lucky as the animals were very active at the time we went, and we had an up close encounter with the zebras and the giraffes. We learned a lot about how the park started, and their commitment to conservation. Our accommodations were clean, basically the same way a hotel works- keycard access to your tent, automatically locking behind you. The sliding doors also lock, but take a minute to figure out. The entire living space was clean and the beds were very comfortable. I 100% would come here for a day safari and if you can, at least spend one night on the grounds! You won't regret it!

This place is so amazing. They are knowledgeable and know what they are doing. They truly care for the animals and the people visiting. They are definitely on the front side of development, but there is so much to see!! They talked about upcoming plans to expand and add more animals, I cannot wait to go back and see them again!

I can only imagine…read morehow hard it'd be for one to drive past and see the AWWW GOATS!! and not want to pull in; however, to visit the Hand Me Down Zoo, one needs an appointment ... and it's totally worth every cent! :) Kerry, who owns the property, is like a Mom to these animals that she rescues, protects, cares for, fosters, and educates visitors about. She is clearly passionate about what she does, and her efforts should be greatly appreciated. Hand Me Down Zoo gives a home to unwanted animals including exotics too, and she let us know which of her animal friends were available, and if you follow their Facebook page, you can get updates on new critters and creatures. She started our tour promptly right after we met her spunky kangaroo (to our huge delight!), and began with a safety intro and background story. The full hour was super fun and informative, and ended with us having the opportunity to return to the goats out front. I can't say enough nice things about Kerry and what she's doing and the animals that we fell in love with.

You get a private tour ( with about 15 people ) and walk around the entire place. Holy cow, the animals she has there are amazing! We got the story on each one, some fun facts, and a whole slew of other information about laws, and behavior and animal food and why these animals came to the zoo. So informative! So eye opening. Please be aware that the walk through could be a bit rough for the elderly or someone that does not walk well. Kids MUST be well behaved in order not to scare animals. There is a small gift shop as well. I think you should visit. The whole thing was about 1.5 hours. Very worth the time and price.

I was fortunate to find a code so admission was free but I had pay to feed the animals which was reasonably priced. However with little ones we ran through those tokens so fast because they were overly excited once they realized they could feed the fish ducks and goat. The goats are where most of our time was spent lol. You can pay $20 or 10 tokens to hold animals in different locations. There's a gift shop in the back which I was thankful it was tucked away and not having to walk through it while leaving so tantrums were avoided. Like other reviews yes it's fairly warm but I just figured it's to keep the animals comfortable and I dealt with it, it didn't make or break my experience just bring some water with you. Also yes the smell as soon as you walk in punches you in your nose but you go nose blind after awhile. Every staff member from the front desk to those walking around has awesome customer service interacting with My kids and I and explaining what they were doing with the animals. We will definitely be back soon!

The smell coming from the farm animals really just hits you right in the face when you enter. I wore a cardigan over a tank top and was sweating. There's so many people and very little air conditioning. Yikes. You can smell everyone's body odor. I purchased my tickets online and received my wrist bands. We also bought 15 tokens for about $32 so my kids can interact with the animals. It's cheaper to buy from the token machines inside. Save your money, don't get tokens at all. The amount of animal feed you get is very little. I'm talking about 1 tsp size. Like 2 pebbles for the farm animals, but I understand why they do this. The animals are getting feed all day long. Our first stop was to feed the catfishes. When I say there is a lot of people. There was A LOT of people. I feel like the SeaQuest was really understaffed. Parents were allowing their kids to run around in the turtle inclosure. There was no staff in sight. Poor thing was getting chased by kids. Same thing for the iguana. The only animal interaction my kids enjoyed was the parakeets. It was 1 token per person and you spend about 2-5 mins inside. I would not come back and do not recommend.
