Really High-Ranking Schools, it would be difficult to get into (Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, University of Georgia) and Mercer 2. Safety Schools like GA State University (merged with Ga Perimeter College), Kennesaw State University (merged with Southern Polytechnical State University), Georgia Southern University, Columbus State University 3. HBCUs which are really in a class of their own (Morehouse, Clayton State University, Clark Atlanta University, Albany State, Savannah State University, Fort Valley State University, etc) or Atlanta Technical College 4. All woman colleges like Spellman or Agnes Scott 5. Colleges weirdly named small private schools or religious schools you see ads for or considered but will most likely not go to/not ranked Nationally not an HBCU PBI or Minority Majority School but are for the local population (Ga Perimeter, Ga Gwinnett, Gwinnett Tech, Augusta State, Valdosta State, Middle Georgia, South Georgia, UWG, UNG, Dalton, Armstrong Atlantic State University, College of Coastal Georgia, Ga College & State University - not to be confused with Georgia State University, Devry University, Life University, Beulah Heights University, South University, Thomas University, Shorter University, Thomas University, Reinhardt University, Baulder, Wesleyan Abraham Baldwin Agricultural, Brewton-Parker, Berry, Paine, Columbia Theological Seminary, Lagrange, Piedmont, Truett-McConnell, Emmanuel, 6. Lol no offense imo but rip-off or Non-Accredited Colleges like SCAD the Art Institute of Atlanta 7. last and least lol 2-year colleges or Technical College or Vocational Schools Some of the rankings blend but generally shoot for the higher ranks of schools if you can't start at the lower ranks. Unfortunately, there's a huge gap between the Really Highly Ranked Colleges and the Safety Schools which seems like there is a barrier of entry for marginalized students or POC, but you could work hard and transfer even if you start at a 2 year college or Technical College. So, by all means considerably Id say in the state of Georgia, GA State University is a great option if you care for Research and name and prestige and diversity and value financially Return of Interest. read more

HONORS COLLEGE ONLY! (other GSU faculty and staff were great) Parents and students: be aware that the Honors College at GSU has a troubling internal culture that can impact student experiences. Leadership frequently forgot the names of Black students and faculty who had been part of the program for years, while white and lighter-skinned students and staff were consistently remembered and engaged. Students were also treated unfairly. For example, one student with ADHD/Autism was yelled at by a leadership employee for harmless stimming, and others were spoken about negatively behind their backs, including being called "weird" despite social challenges. Black students were often only engaged for photo ops or promotional events, rather than receiving genuine support. Overall, the environment can feel hostile and unwelcoming, and students should know that office culture may affect their experience in this program. read more

We have been very unimpressed with GSU's dual enrollment program. 1. Their website has outdated information. 2. We couldn't get anyone to email or call back-at all. I went to this school because the location seemed convinient, and I had a scholarship. Do not go here if you have to pay tuition, it is not worth your time or money. There is little to no communication from the school and from the professors. When you go to the resource offices for help you will be met by staff who are unprepared and unequipped to answer questions. Every experience I've had with them has left me unsatisfied. My classes have low engagement, and it seems like the overall attitude on campus is lethargic from both students and staff. read more

Poor student services. Everywhere from assigned advisor, financial aid office, to student work coordinator, Justice Turner specifically. Orientation and open houses made it seem like GSU cares and are available. Students can't even get a meeting with their advisor because they all have no availability for an entire semester, every semester?! If you are looking to figure things out all on your own or recieve outrageously rude email communication in the rare event you recieve a reply from staff, specifically Justice Turner, this is the school for you. If you are looking for a good quality college that offers true student services and assistance, seek elsewhere. Likely transferring next semester. I've experienced an unprofessional staff continuously. For example: One of the fafsa individuals directed me to the building where Fafsa is and it was closed. I went back to him and he stated I went too far but I told him I went to where the sign clearly says Fafsa it's just closed. He took out his phone and said I know my manager is there as if he was calling to see. The dude took the phone out and began playing on his phone I said forget it and walked away. Failed school that is located in what can only be considered a demilitarized area of Atlanta. Literally the worst place you can go right now unless you're POC or heavily leftist in your views. You'll come here because your grades sucked in school and leave because you're treated like crap. Many of the professors don't care. The accounting program is heralded as this amazing thing but the professors that teach those classes suck too, and don't care about material retention. I was here 5 years but only because it worked so well for me logistically (so many buses drop off here from the surrounding metro area) that I would've had to live anywhere else and pay a fortune for my degree. If you are a veteran, I highly recommend finding a different school. It was almost every single semester there were issues with my G.I. Bill on the GSU side of things. Rather that be them not submitting all my classes to the VA or trying to charge me more because they did not record my G.I. Bill correctly. I have wasted so much of my time with this university so I will keep it simple 1) After I had initially accepted my offer from GSU, the communication was TERRIBLE. From the time I initially enrolled until the first day of school, I received next to no information regarding housing, orientation, and expenses from GSU. To get a question answered, I would have to personally call and be on hold for up to an HOUR only to have my question vaguely answered, or be told they couldn't answer it. Oftentimes the only way to get aanswer would be to physically drive to the school and meet someone face to face. GSU employees only look to argue with you, or simply ignore you instead of getting you answers. Extremely unprofessional and inefficient 2) More times than not I do not feel safe on campus. I do not feel comfortable walking around without pepper spray and have been followed back to the dorm/ approached by men more times than I can count. There have been a large number of shootings and sexual assault incidents from the two semesters I have been here. 3) The food in the dining hall (you are required to get a meal plan as a freshman) is consistently put out in the morning and left there until evening, cold and greasy. Not to mention there is a lack of fresh and healthy options. 4) Lastly, the campus is atrocious. There is always garbage/ other litter everywhere you look. Not to mention the human feces, used condoms, and needles I see almost on a daily basis. There are no green spaces that are safe for students. Parks are consistently filled with homeless people, leaving no outdoor spaces for students to gather. Avoid this university at all costs. Go to a school where safety and education are seen as equal. I decide to write a review because the other reviews I seen on here. Please take my review with as many grains of salt as you would like. I am an alumni from 2014 but recently started visit GSU because I am taking advantage of the service alumnis of the Business school receive: free uses of Handshake(Career Services) and career services and my girlfriend goes here. I can tell you how it was when I went here and how it is today. When I went to gsu from 2009-2014, it was quite different. There wasn't enough housing for majority of the students causing so most students to commuted so traffic was very bad similar to what it now but a lot worse, so things are getting better. Financial aid service worked less efficiently so if you were heavy depend on financial aid your classes could get dropped and it was almost impossible to get them fixed(a lot on friend suffered because of this and so did I) aka you had to really be on top of your shit. Classes were flexible as they've always have been so to schedule two days a week classes unless it's towards the end of your bachelors degree is a possibility. The homeless population has always been around the campus and for the most part stay in the parks around. The reviews that say don't schedule classes one side of campus to the other one such as aderhold hall to langdale hall too close together just need to learn how to walk faster it takes only 7-8 minutes to make the trip and so does walking from Five Points Marta station to Langdale Hall/Sparks/Classroom South/Petites/main campus halls. Professors were super friend to help you out when you have real world problems(being sick, sick children, having to work, commuting problems, and/or problems making to class) something you don't get at other colleges in the city of GSU academic accreditation. Security seemed better since last text messages and/or emails about people getting robbed circulated around. Bookstores around Gsu least had two more bookstores so you didn't have to go on campus or buy online only as you do now. Additionally, restaurants around campus tends to shut down more often or switch names. There where places to get food and drinks that but for the most part those were late at night places like Star Bar, Sensational subs, and Anatolia's. Today GSU has changed but not too much. There is more housing for students to live on campus, more dining halls since more housing, more food places to get items like bubble tea, pho, poke, and sushi. If you do take Maymester/Summer classes don't expect food places to be/stay out like in the Fall and Spring semesters. read more

Go Panthers! I'm a senior and have been begging for a clean classroom all semester in the Class South building. My classroom has not be cleaned at all and it's a shame we have to learn in this environment, GSUs image is elevating on the outside and Id just appreciate that change to translate to students/customers. The floor is covered in long human hairs, bottles, trash, candy bar wrappers and dirt covered stains from old spilled drinks and from week to week it has only worsened. Yeah. I went here TOO. I needed ONE calculus class to bone up for grad school, and it was offered at night, after work, so I hopped on MARTA and went to GSU to take calculus. I took calculus in undergrad. The teacher was B-grade. It was me who had the problem. After about 2 weeks of seeing the integral symbol, a girl sitting next to me and I looked at each other and asked "What's that snake thing?" A clear sign to drop the class if there ever was one. And that's how I came to know the CSU system for summer school ... for 3 summers! Back to Georgia State. If you are a non-traditional student who works, GSU is great. Many people appear to be picking up business or education degrees here, or doing something as non-matriculated types. In Atlanta (which kicks ass ... Westerners take heed), you just don't go take a class at Georgia Tech (because it's a brain trust), nor at Emory (because it's private), and nor at UGa (because it's too far from ATL). Pros: not exceedingly hard, great scheduling options, very diverse, good in-state rates, good professors (mine was excellent and the class had about 40 people), on the MARTA train line, and very down-to-earth people Cons: downtown ATL shuts down at night, a bland soulless urban campus without much beauty, and, while not THAT dangerous, the nearby MARTA stations can be sketchy. In the end, Georgia Tech and UGa are the two publics in Georgia where you'd want to pick up a sheepskin. Georgia State is where you go if you can't get into those, if you work and need a schedule built around that, or where you go to pick up classes for this and that. The fact that people aren't involved in undergraduate hi-jinks and are more casual and adult-like makes it easy to make friends or acquaintances at GSU. A woman who sat next to me insisted on giving me a ride to MARTA's entrance every night after class because she drove to school and was just that friendly. If not for the neighborhood and the open admissions scenario, I might have given GSU 4 stars. read more

So a friend suggested we go see a basketball game between Georgia State and Texas State. The GSU basketball games are played on campus in a funky gym on the 2nd floor of a building. There must have been 150 students there, plus the enthusiastic band, gymnast-cheerleaders and a pep group of young women who danced and waved pompoms. In the stand opposite the students were maybe 100 adults. The PA system music was excruciatingly loud. Concessions are $1 per item no matter what you order. GSU Pres Mark Becker was there cheering on his team. (They lost a heartbreaker in double OT.) Pretty good hoops, excellent popcorn. read more

However, these two things are probably the only benefits of this school. If you are not a business or nursing major, this money-hungry ​university is a waste of your time. ​My biggest complaint is the lack of much need breaks! During midterms, when everyone else got a break right after, we were the only school still in session! We got one week-long break the entire semester, and that's because it is Thanksgiving week. Having breaks are necessary​ because it prevents students from being BURNED OUT. The academics at this school are not difficult at all, but the fact that breaks and time away from school are not a ​priority, many students give up by November. It's probably the reason why this school has such a high drop out rate. Another thing, you think GSU cares about your safety? HA! Nope. We've had two cases of TERRIBLE (Hurricane Irma and a Snow-in) weather this year. GSU thought it was unnecessary to close down the campus despite every other school doing so. GSU only shut down for Hurricane Irma because it was state demanded by the governor. We still had to go to school when there was ice on the highways. My last complaint is that the faculty are kind of​ racist. I know this a majority black school, but could try to hold back your destain for us negros? GSU, you can boast about being one the most diverse school in America​, but when your staff is 50 shades of eggshell and prejudice, that progressive statement holds little weight. read more

Do you think prospective students or parents check Yelp reviews prior to choosing a school? I hope not but it takes all kinds to make up our society. That said ... here's a review of one of my alma maters. GSU probably - no, definitely - doesn't have the best reputation as an institution of higher learning. But I'm here to tell you, it ain't quite that bad. Many schools in the university are quite good, in fact. The law school, for example, may not be first tier (Harvard, Yale, etc) but it's right there with second tier schools, particularly if you're a working student who can only take night classes. GSU Law fully supports their evening program - it isn't an afterthought or a half-hearted attempt to address the needs of adult students. The professors are pretty awesome too - as a group, one of the most intelligent, thoughtful and helpful faculties I've been associated with. The School of Art & Design also is very good, although maybe not as well funded as the law school. If you're interested in expanding your talents and horizons in the area of high art, this could be where you want to be. Some of the other schools are probably similarly well regarded but I have no personal knowledge. GSU is a downtown campus and many people are a bit hesitant to venture around downtown Atlanta in the first place, much less go to school there. Once again, it ain't that bad. Sure, just as you would in any large city, you have to keep your eyes open and be smart, it's hardly dangerous. being downtown has some advantages. Better walking-distance lunch options, for example. MARTA is right there. If you like college sports ... well, there's always Georgia Tech. For a large, state university, GSU rates higher than popular opinion in my book. read more

The library extended their hours, especially the weekends, awesome! Still no 24 hours but that's fine. This library has everything a student needs. The best things about it is that they have printers almost every corner of some particular floors, great. They have electronic stuff to rent or borrow, nice. Enough computers, mostly Windows but they have Macs too. The library bridge is an awesome touch to the building. Floors for different levels of noise, they get quieter as you get to the top. 5th floor has "zero noise" room! It's great if you wanna focus on studying or even sleeping!! Academic counseling in a joke. Both my daughters engaged to understand what courses were needed and the path to graduation every semester. Advice was completely and consistent wrong. Both needed to take extra classes after HOPE had expired because the counselors were completely clueless, inept and could not have cared less. As a frequent visitor, I can safely say that campus security is some twisted joke. Just this morning I was harassed by a panhandler in the garage of the Counseling Center/Student Housing building that I couldn't even report because the building security desk was empty. Waited ten minutes for anyone to show up before proceeding with my day. And it galls me especially because my partner is down here five days a week and has to deal with this BS. The only reason we were even able to get out of our damned car let alone enter the building was by telling the guy we don't carry cash. Disheartening and disgusting. Do better, GSU read more

I've got two kids here (5th year senior & sophomore) and the oldest has had the better experience; the younger one really struggled with lack of communication from professors and asynchronous classes due to Covid. But this review is not about their academic experience. For the next-to-largest, if not THE largest university in the state, their Student Financial Services department is absolutely atrocious. Both my kids qualify for Zell or Hope scholarship money. Each July, I start getting billed for the full amount of fees and tuition, not reflecting their Zell/Hope money, with a due date three weeks before class starts. Trying to find out when those funds will be applied is impossible. There is a footer in the emailed bill I get that says Student Financial Services "guests" (ie, a parent that pays the bill but doesn't have full access to their account info) can send an email to a special "guest" address with any questions. I sent an email and got an auto reply that says that email is no longer active! They say the best way to contact them is for the student to put in a Panther ticket, which gets a response in 24-48 hours. Well my kid put in a ticket five days ago and still hasn't gotten a response. If you call the main Financial Services number you are guaranteed a LONG hold time. It will probably be a student intern who finally answers and they really can only give you basic information. Last year they started doing virtual appointments with a Student Financial Services rep, which work well IF you can get one. I do not understand why this is an issue EVERY FALL SEMESTER. Do they not have literally thousands of students dependent on Zell/Hope money? Can they not standardize this process, so that every student doesn't have to stress about paying the entire amount in order not to have their schedule cancelled? We could manage to pay the full amount and wait for a refund once the Zell/Hope money is applied, but why should we have to? This seems like the foundation of what this department does, and I can't understand how they can be so terrible at what they do. If you search Reddit there are lots of people saying they learned on the down-low that the actual due date is the day classes start. Why can't Financial Services just be straightforward and upfront? The yearly hassles with them make me want to tell my kids to transfer to a smaller school. If this kind of stuff stresses you out, then I'd avoid this school like the plague. As a GSU super senior -- I can honestly with the utmost honesty say that if I had to choose which college I was going to attend all over again I would never in a million years choose Georgia State University. The school is lacking in real leadership or at least in leaders with a brain that functions and that has the students in mind. My GSU experience has been very mixed. The campus is pretty straightforward. The buildings are very easy to find and classrooms are very well marked. I don't think I ever got lost or had to ask someone where a specific building was located. (cool points) The courtyard however is a mess. I was under the impression when I got accepted into GSU that it was a school filled with students who had at least some sort of class. I was wrong. I think they went recruiting in the lower-west side of Atlanta because most of these students are ghetto-trash! yes, I said it....take it like you will....I can't fathom how some of these students got into campus in the first place. example: I was in the elevator and this girl was bragging to her friend on how she plagiarized the entire paper and she was proud of it. She stated that she was glad she got away with it because she didn't know anything about the subject. I'm sorry but, in high school I might have cheated here and there but, in higher education where I'm paying my hard earned money to get a real education it disgust me to hear people doing this and not be punished. Anyway, I promise there are great points at GSU that contribute to my 3 stars...and those are the Professors. The instructors at this institution definitely love what they do. They are very helpful a lot of times and try their best to steer students in the right direction. I have enjoyed most of them and if I didn't like their methods I went and took the class with someone else. I feel like this institution is the start for some of these instructors and their ultimate goal is to teach at a better place because I think they deserve better. It all falls back on fees. GSU charges fees for everything! even if you don't use the resource you are still responsible for paying up! I can see why and why not but, I mean can using the gym facility be a students choice? please! Lastly, the most ridiculous part about the university is the lack of courses required for graduation. It has taken me 6 years to finish my dual degree. This is in no fault of my own. I have always made good grades and kept up with my end of the deal but, when they don't offer the classes someone requires to graduate it makes things difficult. One semester I had to take one pre-req class only because I could not continue in my program until that specific one was finished. So, I had to pay all the fees and tuition for that one class! no acceptable. I think Georgia State has a lot to offer in terms of great education. I just feel like the administration really needs to get it together and listen to the students. If they would only get their hands out of our wallets and focus on what really matter this school has great potential. read more

Damn it, people. Why so much Georgia State hate? I graduated from here with two undergrad degrees and am currently back on campus, trying to scrounge some research experience. I am a true believer that life is what you make it. Or like a box of chocolates. Whatever simile you like. Having said that, Georgia State gave me a wonderful education. Honestly, amazing. I studied International Affairs in the Political Science department and Economics in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. I have had fantastic and brilliant professors who nurtured my mind in ways that I could never repay for. It is true that you may have classmates who don't give as big a flying crap as you about your education, but each man for his own in this regard. If you don't have the self-discipline to drive your own education, you are just going to be another cog in the machine. The blunt reality always stings, right? I went to work full-time through most of my studies (save for one year, when I was living the life after quitting my job and attending school full-time--fun fact: if I won the lottery, I'd be in school forever and ever and ever more!) and found Georgia State's flexible class schedule to work perfectly for me. I am still thankful for how they made getting a college education a possibility for me. I heard about the reputation before attending a few years ago (I believe that GSU is slowly gaining some academic prestige in the state and perhaps the region in general) and considered going to GA Tech (even though I did not want to be an engineer). One call to the admissions office demonstrated to me that "nontraditional" students like me would not be embraced at the home of the Yellow Jackets. Anyway, if you are looking for a place to gain book smarts, as well as street smarts (because let's face it, the campus is an urban one but I have never had anything happen to me so far--and I have gone to and fro the Five Points station MANY nights), consider going to Georgia State. People, there's a whole wide world out there. Don't restrict yourself to subdivision life in Forsyth county. Your life will be flavorless. There. I said it. read more

The reasons that I despise Georgia State are too numerous to count. For one, for a school that has many working-class students, Georgia State did not impress me with its selection of night classes. It was extremely hard to find the classes I needed while working a full-time office job. Additionally, most of the teachers seemed apathetic at best about the coursework. Which might have surprised me more if most of the students hadn't seemed to be either desperately stupid or too lazy to put forth even a minimal amount of effort in classes. And yet, most of these students appeared to be passing their classes, because they kept popping up in more classes of mine later on. There was also one extremely disappointing snafu wherein the college decided that I was no longer eligible to receive my student loan. Here's how it went down. I received this lovely letter from GSU's financial aid office informing me that I was "not meeting the standard" for "Satisfactory Academic Progress" due to the fact that I had "attempted the maximum number of hours for students at" the undergraduate level. As a result, I was being denied my student loans. This was especially convenient since payment for that semester was due two days after I received this wonderful correspondence. I'd like to point out that at this time, I had taken a grand total of 39 credit hours at GSU. That's less than two years worth of credit hours, which is hardly the maximum for a 4-year degree. Alas, GSU was counting my credit hours from a completely separate bachelor's degree from a completely different school (Emory), which was completely finished in 1998, 5 years before I freaking enrolled at GSU. I was given 30 days to write a formal appeal. I called the financial aid office and received a message that they were not answering their phones due to an "unusually high call volume". There was no option to leave voice mail. My e-mail to the financial aid office was ignored. I decided that rather than wasting my time driving to the school to discuss this issue, I'd just take the semester off and write the stupid formal appeal. Then there is the wonderful ambiance of the campus. In addition to the rousing bouquet of urine mixed with God knows what, there is also the joy of being accosted by people who appear to be homeless. And as a special treat, you might get to take a class in the brand-spanking-new Aderhold building, which is admittedly pretty nice... but requires a long walk across Woodruff "Park," which is nasty by day and downright terrifying by night. I would tell you the story about the time I got hit on by a guy who had only moments before begged me for money (no, I am NOT making this up) in a nearby parking lot. But I feel that this review has already rambled on for far too long. I am giving GSU 2 stars because it's convenient to get to it via MARTA and they actually do have a nice gym and probably some other great services I might have availed myself of had I been a more "traditional" student there. And also because other people seem to have had a better experience there, so I am giving other programs besides my major program the benefit of the doubt. read more

I'm about to finish my master at RCB and I've worked for RCB, Andrew Young and School of Health. So my experience might be different from undergraduate students. What I like about GSU: Flexibility: I got course waivers as long as I could prove that I'm competent. So I waived 3 courses and 1 workshop, took 8 electives instead. And the electives were awesome. I took both "fun" courses and really serious ones. Tuition waiver: hey thank you guys for paying my tuition! I got the waiver for working for two professors (8hr+8hr per week). Good for me 'cause otherwise the out-of-state rate is ridiculous. Social opportunities: there are plenty events in RCB. All you need to do is getting involved, showing up. And most of the classmates are awesome. What I don't like: Scholarship: Hey my department, where did you spend alumni donations? My GPA is 3.95 and I worked a lot for students events in my department, but they never considered my scholarship application. Slow paperwork: it took 4+ weeks to get my internship authorization approved. I called one-stop-shop hundreds of times. Career service: I can tell they're working hard, but GSU should hire more staff and spend more money/time on it. read more

I gave GS the benefit of doubt when I read other reviews about rude staff, and I got a taste of rude/unprofessional communications from a reply to an inquiry. We are in the beginning stages of enrollment, and the first impression is a lasting impression. I will speak with her to rethink attending this school. read more

I think Georgia State has been the redheaded stepchild of the University System of Georgia up until the last few years. It's not quite as smart as its nerdy older sibling up the street and not nearly as popular as its athletic brother in Athens but things are changing. If you want the "collegiate" experience then I have to say G.S.U. is not for you. No expansive meadows(unless you count Woodruff Park). No frat house parties(No frat houses). Zero school spirit(What was the mascot again?) Its situation in the middle of downtown adds a lot of stress to students who are already burdened with heavy class loads. Traffic, parking, panhandlers...do any other schools even have panhandlers waiting outside classrooms? You can't blame the school for any of that of course. I suppose if you are a business major then this is where to go if your parents aren't rich enough to afford Emory. I may eventually return to G.S.U. for law school but UGA is definitely looking more tempting. At least they have a real football team. G.S.U. does have a decent radio station. I'll give them that. read more

Oh, how I miss UAB. Firstly, the one stop shop screwed me over for my tuition classification. Been here over a year just living and I'm still paying out-of-state? Thanks for telling me after the deadline has passed guys! 10k for 8 credit hours. Haha. So now I am BROKE and everyday I get the same "hey big man, you got a couple dollars? I need to eat!" News flash! I am in MORE DEBT than you are! College kids have NO MONEY! Then everyday on my way out of MARTA and through Woodrow Park, I have religious zealots telling me I am going to Hell for one reason or another. Just what you want to hear everyday, right? Now... Onto the school itself... The class scheduling is horrendous. Apparently EVERY biology graduate class is placed into the same 3 time slots. This means I can't ever really take a full class load unless I want to be downtown with the bums until 8 pm! Not only are the bums very annoying, but the student body is ridiculous as well. WHO IS ALLOWING these STEP SHOWS AND CONCERTS next to the LIBRARY and CLASSROOMS? How am I supposed to study for my test in 3 hours when you're stomping on the ground just outside to some racket? There are 2 parks nearby, do your shows there. Oh and hey, how about you move the bus up 15 feet to the empty area instead of unloading right in front of the GCB? This creates the BIGGEST Cluster$#% I have ever seen between the people getting off and the people waiting for the bus and those just leaving the building or walking by. If I didn't have to, I would not be here. My professors have been fine so far; however, EVERYTHING else is HORRIBLE. /EndRant read more

What a terrible place to subject your children to. I have been to six colleges in three states, so I think I am a professional at college judging. Anyway, when I started at GSU I was pleased. I got some great classes and I was excited about being in the city. That all went sour soon. I had to pay to park every day because I could NEVER get a spot in the GSU parking lots. NEVER. So I had to pay $5 a day to go to school. Then, I was accosted by bums every single freaking day because they were dumb enough to think I had money- dude, I just spent my last five dollars parking, so leave me alone! Then, I got groped by a parking guy- I rolled down my window to give the guy my money and he took it, then reached in and honked my boob! Teary-eyed, I called my boyfriend and he came up with a friend to kick his crazy butt, but he was off duty when they got there. And the classes- bleh! Oddly, I was more challenged at KSU than here. I was so bored I slept through many classes. And I also had this dipwad of a French teacher who was writing a book about reteaching French in America and decided to try his new techniques out on us. Look, I took eight years of French by this time, and I was not going to put up with ole boy trying to make me relearn a language I already knew. He gave me a D because I got all the answers right, but refused to explain the three steps he proposed on how to conjugate verbs. Sorry, but a French man taught me French, and I don't need some American yahoo undoing my real knowledge. I have never gotten anything but an A in French so I knew this guy was full of it. I also had a strange man for an English class who refused to talk to us and made his assistant do all the talking for him. I also had an art class where the teacher showed up SIX TIMES the entire semester- she left us notes on the door telling us what we needed to do for the day. Great teaching. And then I had some demented woman for math who repeated, every day, the classroom policies and refused to talk to us outside of class- you had to make an appointment, and that was usually a week or two after you really needed to talk to her. So, if you want to go to school in the city, pay to park every day, fight bums, avoid gropings, and be taught crap, this is the school to go to. read more

I went here for half a semester and that's all it took. 1) The parking was a mess. I paid for parking deck and the line to get in the deck was an absolute nightmare after 10 AM. 2) There is only one semi enjoyable place on campus where the fountains are, but it's basically a big cancer fest...everyone stands outside smoking in that area. 3) The classroom buildings are like stepping back into 1973. 4) I got lost all the time. 5) The atmosphere felt very impersonal and cramped. I packed my stuff, transferred to KSU and am now a very happy little owl in Kennesaw. read more

I am just finishing the education specialist (Ed.S.) program in Education Leadership at the College of Education and Human Development, and this review is limited to that program only. The program has been incredibly helpful and convenient for this working professional. The course work is truly job-embedded, allowing for relevant and helpful learning that you can apply in your work place right away. Professors are knowledgeable, helpful, and accessible. Much of the coursework is online, although there are opportunities for face-to-face class sessions throughout the program. Getting to and from the campus has been easy (although the 85 collapse did impose a bit of a challenge), and parking has not been terribly difficult with convenient garages located near the CEHD building. I highly recommend this program, and I am grateful for my opportunity to participate. I look forward to starting a new program at Georgia State this summer. read more

I love Georgia State University. I have graduated so I think that says something. I loved my professors in the School of Public Health. It was an awesome program although it is still growing. When I entered it was the Institute of Public Health and when I graduated we had become the School of Public Health. I had my tuition waived by working on campus and I met some awesome people. I moved here just for grad school and ended up having a much more fulfilling experience with memories that will last a lifetime. #gopanthers #therealGSU read more

Dang...why the low stars fellow peers? I love this university. Easy access from the interstate, interesting people to meet, diverse, friendly staff, and plenty of cheap restaurants in the area...do I need to say more? My senior year here and I do not regret choosing this university. Never met staff (financial, advisement & bookstore) so willing to help you out. Never got that attention from GPC. I can't wait till I graduate!! Keep it posted. read more
