The food was really disappointing, especially the green beans. I genuinely enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses, but this experience just didn't meet expectations. First off the communication with the cashier was not good. He does not have good customer service. He basically stared me in my face and I said are you ready to take my order and he shook his head yeah. We got to do better. Anyway, I was able to get past the communication barrier in order a two piece fish two piece shrimp meal with two sides with one side being the hush puppies and the other is fries. The fish seemed like it was seasoned pretty good. I was only able to taste a piece of it and also the shrimp and of course I did taste the fries. They were OK, but not as good as five guys when the cashier offered condiments. I noticed that he only gave one half of a container of tartar sauce . That's not good because how come I'm getting a full container of hot sauce, but not a full container of tartar sauce, make it make sense. They did give me some plasticware which I'm not using with this meal. Last but not least I tried the strawberry banana pudding. It was a 3 out of five. I was in the area and decided to finally visit this location since I had eaten a large breakfast was looking for something very light for lunch. The day I visited, they were playing zydeco and Louisiana/southern style music pretty loudly from the speakers, so if you don't like that sort of thing, with them trying to get you in the mood to eat catfish, this may not be your type of place. Their fountain machine was broken during my visit, so a bottled soda was the only option at the time. Although they have tables inside, half were out of service and not available for use. Luckily, most customers seem to order take out anyway. After looking at the small menu, I decided on the regular fish basket with a soda in the cooler. This meal came out to around $15 after tax. Fish basket - served in a to-go box. Upon opening, the fish looked pretty thin and pathetic, but after eating the filets they were fairly juicy and well-seasoned. The hush puppies are standard. The red beans and rice is actually pretty good! Their tartar sauce has been adjusted and has an orangish color with orange speckles. Overall, this quick service restaurant was alright for me but they are definitely trying to make it a to-go kind of place and for me, I am looking for a nice sit down place to relax during my lunch break without all the loud music, hustle and bustle. Plus, I rarely eat catfish, so I don't see myself returning anytime soon. read more

I truly had high hopes for this place. I went outside my comfort zone and got the red beans and rice and absolutely not. No flavor or seasoning whatsoever. The catfish was giving Swai and there really is a difference between the two. It was fired perfectly and seasoned very well but after eating the first piece I was like this is giving Swai. This is the Gumbo I ordered, however it's just a 16oz bowl of floating fat and sink water. This is absolutely not edible. I ordered gumbo, not floating fat. They sell better frozen gumbo at HEB. Their fried catfish, shrimp and gumbo are prepared fresh with just enough spicy kick to smack of authenticity. A surprising treat is their red beans and rice. It's prepared with traditional kidney beans, sausage and rice all combined in a deep rich thick sauce. I can take or leave the fried shrimp. The onion rings are maybe the best in Houston. If you like onion rings you'll understand how hard it is to find good ones in this town. So many places use the crappy frozen ones. When we first arrived Employee was friendly and helpful but after ordering the customer service was horrible. I ordered a combo and was never given my drink and the poboy was a mess that was full or cheese and overcooked shrimp. The catfish was crisp and fresh. I also had sides of red beans and rice and the jambalaya. The beans were nothing special and bland but the jambalaya mixed in them made up in the flavor. Now for the worst part was the bonding balls. Inedible is the best way to describe them. The only flavor was liver and thyme and it tasted like the liver was going on the bad side. I've had many boudin balls over the years and these were the worst. After telling her about it she said well I must just not liver. I am trained in various cuisines and have many other boudin. Spending money on this food was a total waste of money, time and effort. It was least favorite meal in a long time. I ordered the catfish po-boy which was over and under cooked, wet, sloppy and a poor representation of a catfish po-boy, The catfish came out looking overcooked however when I bit into it was barely cooked. Thought I'd stop in and try this place out, wanted some fresh catfish and glad I stopped. Prior to coming I stopped at Dr. Daiquiri as well and asked if they had tried Georgia's, and they gave it their stamp of approval. Talked with the tall guy working there, and once he found out it was my first time trying this place he made sure I had their special chicken and sausage gumbo - it was delish. I also ordered the regular catfish combination platter that came with fried shrimp and your choice of two sides. So I also got fries and green beans. All were fresh and well seasoned. I requested an additional seasoning container for the green beans, but that is just my liking. Also while there, fresh cake was brought in consisting of red velvet cake and banana cream cake (sigh). My spirits were lifted even more - and fresh too?! :D So i bought both flavors to try, and neither disappointed. The cashier was also a cook and there was one other cook in the back. Now to the food, the boudin balls were not good. They lacked flavor, spice, and texture. The coating tasted like uncooked flour. The string beans were ok, but salty. The gumbo was decent but lacked meat and shrimp. There were two small pieces of sausage and one shrimp. The chicken was there, but was pulled off the bone instead of cut. Odd...I cut my chicken to make it easier to eat. The shrimp were ok, but fried too hard. The coating was hard and crunchy. It's been a while since visiting this restaurant. I remember the catfish fillets were moist and tender, lightly fried and most importantly, not greasy! The fries were typical frozen out of the bag variety. Everything else was okay, with a better than average freshness. I don't remember seeing hush puppies on the menu? It was waaaay under seasoned, I mean the fish basically tasted like water.
