We selected DougieDoItall, LLC as kitchen and bath contractors. Before commencing with the project,…read morewe verified that they were a legitimate business. When asked, they provided proof of insurance. I was familiar with the proper form to be submitted for insurance and checked the expiration date. Otherwise, we were in a scramble to finish this bathroom so my 85 year old Father with dementia and Parkinson's, could return to our home and continue to rest in place in what is an apartment that we created for him. In the interim, he was at a nursing home. Things quickly fell apart when Doug Roark, the "Contractor" (turns out not to be a General Contractor but is registered as a painter), was arrested on unrelated charges in early January. The crew were not getting paid. We had already overextended the terms of our agreement and not forthcoming with additional funds without satisfactory completion of an already late project. The crew members retrieved my Home Depot card that was given to Doug only for specific items to finish the project and used it for shop vacs, chisel sets and other items that were not ours to pay. We were in Europe at the time. When we returned and Doug was out of jail, they came and did about one day of additional work (which was the lowest quality of anything prior) then left taking tools of ours and materials we paid for to be used on the project. They never finished. They never pulled permits. WE LATER WENT TO FILE A CLAIM WITH "THEIR" INSURANCE COMPANY. NO SUCH POLICY EXISTS. THEY PROVIDED FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS. Doug and his crew were all in a program to "turnaround" their lives, something we are very supportive of anyone doing. We later receive reports that the crew showed up at a local ACE Hardware intoxicated. Doug's 3 days (their initial estimate) in jail turned out to be nearly 3 weeks. What we were initially told was a traffic infraction (like an out light) actually is an illegal possesion charge. THEY ARE A SCAM. It seems they need a bit more discovery in order to have any recovery.
