I've been to many of the different luau's on island and wanted to see what this place was all about! On my drive out, there is nothing to really see. It's literally in the back of all the industrial buildings!! Upon arrival, the drive out lot was super empty. It made it nice for me to find prime parking and not have to worry about being the rush. They bring five charter buses in town to get all of the people there! We ordered the Highest package which was the plumeria and would highly recommend. You are greeted by a hostess and walk down to take a picture with a fire dancer and a hula dancer. Then show you where you will be seated and have your own bar counter. The drinks are super heavy on the alcoholic side. So be warned!!! There's not much to do to keep yourself occupied while you are waiting. I recommend that you take your time getting there. The food was great! LOTS OF CHOICES OF MAIN COURSE MEALS. Also, they serve the meal to you! You really never have to get up unless you want a drink. Let me start by saying Germaine's definitely live it to its name of "backyard style" luau. It's a great luau to hang out with friends or family and grab a seat at one of their picnic tables and a few drinks from the bar. Compare to other luaus in Oahu there is not much else to do here, but the food, staff, and performance make up for it . They have a small gift shop and soft drinks, tea, coffee , and water is all complimentary. You can take a picture when you first enter. I wasn't loving the location , it's in the industrial part of Kapolei. Beachfront property but you can't put your feet in the water there were cones and rope near the edge . However with all that said I enjoyed myself and had fun. The food for one is amazing ! Once everyone goes through once you can go up for more if you desire ( I sure did). The staff is amazing and exhibit that aloha welcome . I felt like apart of their family. They were all so kind and welcoming. More than one person offer to help me at the buffet seeing that I was serving myself and my 4 yr old daughter . The performances were awesome as well. And interactive, twice inviting people on stage (first time males, second females ). It's smaller than other places like paradise cove, but I think that's part of their charm. If you're vegetarian I know they have a vegetarian option, just have to notify them in advance. Parking is free and if it rains I know they offer ponchos. If you're celebrating anniversary, birthday , honeymoon , etc . Let them know they will do a shout out . They also do a raffle and pick three winners ! ( I didn't win so I don't know what they get but I did see them get gift bags !) Had a wonderful time at this Luau! It is filled with family entertainment and Aloha! It is on a beautiful beach with the ocean as a backdrop. Perfect spot to watch the sunset before you enjoy the meal and performances. Perks-Parking is free onsite, great food, vegetarian meal available when requested (tofu and veggies), great location, they offer bus ride to/from your hotel), free drink with your entry ticket. They prepare the Imu like most Luau's in the ground, and then take it out and show everyone. You are then welcomed to dine, it is a buffet style. The staff will call your table. I really wanted to like Germaine's Luau, I really did:( I am not sure why, but it seemed super boring. I told myself not to compare this luau space to Paradise Cove as I have been to that particular luau twice already. So I didn't, however I want to talk about some of the things to me made this luau super boring. Number one when you enter the luau you take a family picture but there are no Polynesian culture reps in the picture. I say this to say that at Paradise Cove when you enter your not only given a drink but you have a person that's going to be in the picture with you to me that adds a special touch, well actually a Polynesian touch. Also there's nothing to do at this luau, but sit down and watch the entertainment, drink and eat. Paradise Cove you can do quite a few things before the actual start of the luau it's pretty cool they have it where you can make Leis, get drinks, get in a small boat, take pictures with cool birds, walk along the beach as it is on a secluded lagoon. The food was pretty good very standard for a luau to have the things they had. I also like how when you entered they gave you a quick "tour". However in my opinion there isn't very much to see you have the gift shop, the bathroom, the bar and the tables where you sit and watch the stage. I do think the entertainment was great! but it was just very long I feel like at paradise cove the entertainment stops right after they finish the fire show because let's face it it's really hard to top a fire show. Finally, I really felt like the show was never going to end:( and maybe it's because I went on a weekday and I usually don't stay up past 8 o'clock and I was exhausted and had to drive all the way back to the Windward side of the island. I just felt very very tired I do think it's cool that they put a pineapple at your table as sort of an appetizer I do think I do think they do a really good job walking around and making sure that you are as comfortable as possible however this is probably my first and last time at this luau. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. This luau is a joke. I live on Oahu and I'm so disappointed. I'm actually still at the luau and couldn't wait to review this place. The activities weren't available (tattoos or lei making). I attempted to discuss my concerns with the director and she only made excuses. The time is 7:56 pm now and they are just now starting the show, it's expected to be over by 8:30pm. The pig was already cut up for the ceremony, but the plus is the food was good. Honestly that's the only part of the night that was good. Spend the extra money and go to Polynesian cultural center. There you'll get a full show, tons of activities, and good food. My second Lua on this Island and it's my second favorite! The location is a bit sketch but being right on the beach made it enjoyable. Be prepared to be in lots of sand. The food here I still think is my favorite. While the entertainment while waiting to eat isn't much the show was very entertaining! The drinks I really enjoyed some where strong but the blended ones were perfect! Also strong top the 10$ cup in the souvenir shop is really worth it because they double your drink. I liked that they had the free drink tickets those were included which was nice. The pictures in the end came out nice. And the show the two hosts were lovely the woman had a great voice and the man was genuinely funny! We had a blast being there they were so interactive with the public meeting your neighbors and because we went on 9/11 even being included in their tribute of singing the Anthem was neat. read more

Very disappointing after being told this is the best on the island. Lei greeting? She just handed us our cheap shell lei. The food was ok however the macaroni/potato salad was delicious. Was not an luau with a pig, it was pork belly. The entertainment was good. Need to have good signs outside of the event. Basically felt it was overpriced. Make sure to do your research before spending 100s of dollars to be disappointed. I clearly did not look into this luau enough before buying tickets. First, it is located right next to a trash/recycling center and you are able to smell it. Second, unless you pay $235 for the highest package you will need to pay $5 for parking, which is insanely dumb considering the lowest package is $124! The food was mediocre at best, and after everyone went through the line it was like a free for all for the employees to eat too. Not to mention I overheard an employee say the food reminded them of Rainbow Drive-In, a local Hawaiian Fast food restaurant that is a fraction of the cost. I definitely expected a better level of service given the price. Once everyone was eating dinner and the show started you couldn't find an employee offering assistance because they were all sitting down eating. My partner had to go behind the counter just to get a cup of coffee because no one put it out once it refilled. Oh and I can't forget the stray cats and bug bites we dealt with all night. It's been many years since I have been back to Hawaii and only my second time to Germaine's Luau. The experience is still the same! I have been told by many friends that Germaine's offers a more intimate setting so you feel connected with the performance. Food, service and drinks are all top notch. Plus, if you add $10 to your VIP drink tickets, you can get the souvenir glass which is a pint! They use that to fill up your drink instead of the small plastic cup! Hosts, hostesses, waitstaff, and performers are all wonderful. I would highly recommend Germaine's Luau. They offer all sorts of food. For all your mainlanders try the poi! Haha! Kama'aina (Local) review. This was our first time coming to Germaine's Luau, and we're definitely fans! The luau lasts about 3 hours; 5:15 - 8:15. Driving: If you're driving like we did, make sure to type in the correct address that they send in their reminder email so you're not routed to Waikiki. Take the H1 to Kapolei to save time. Once you're off the H1 you'll drive through an industrial area before you see the Germaine's Luau parking lot. Seating (4/5): We opted to upgrade when we checked in, from Original Luau to Hibiscus. It was worth the upgrade to us, as we got an additional two drink tickets and a closer table to the stage. We suggest getting there early to be able to pick your seats at your assigned table. All of the seats are literally just picnic tables on sand, so wear comfortable clothing. Ambiance (5/5): The lot is really nice. Just like they say, this really does feel like a backyard home-style luau! Oceanside and with a myriad of palm trees. Entertainment (5/5): Top notch performers! From the emcees, to the band, the dancers and staff, everyone was at 100% and willing to have a good time. One of the best luaus I've been to. Mahalo! Food (3/5): Kalua pork could have used more salt and fat, and the breading on the fish wasn't the greatest. Everything else was just ok; I've been to luaus with better food. It was just what i remembered and a fun and festive luau for the first time luau. they dig the pig out of the ground, which is a neat to see for the first timers. We both called and made reservations for Friday, 5-26-17, since Chel from LA was in town! I paid a little extra for transportation by bus from the Ilikai Hotel to the luau site in Kapolei. I wanted to avoid the going-home-traffic; wanted to take advantage of our 3 drink tickets, and didn't want to drive home from Kapolei in the dark after the show. We also paid more for the Plumeria Package which included a souvenir photo; front row seats; kukui nut lei greeting and escort; food service (we didn't have to go to the buffet line); and 3 specialty drinks! The bottom line: the food was okay; the service was great; the entertainment (hula, singing, fire show, etc.) was so outstanding that Chel's daughter is now taking hula lessons!!! Talk about being inspired! It was so worth it to get front row seats for children - the taller adults would block their view of the stage. Another highlight was the hostess on our bus ride: Georgie. She is Miss Alohalani to the max!! Full of wit, spunk, kindness, humor, and Aloha Spirit, she made the long trek across the island and through traffic pass by so quickly! I even learned a new Hawaiian word: le'ale'a...to have fun and enjoy... that's what really happened!!! Came highly recommended by my AAA travel agent. It's literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by factories and junk cars. Bugs were everywhere, even on the food in the buffet line. I left there covered in big bites and barely ate because it was too hard to fight off the flies. Drinks were good. There were literally 5 performers who were talented, however, I have been to other luaus and this one is definitely sub par. I do not recommend nor will I be returning. I'm kama'aina, and if the service staff/ escorts talked and treated me how they regularly treat tourist that pay full price to experience a luau- that's not the kind of Aloha I would be referring visitors to experience. My family of six attended the lu'au last night- we did use our kama'aina discount. 3 guests were from out of town, but 2 are originally born and raised locally. We paid good money so we can have fun memories and a good time with the entire family. There were 3 incidents in the span of 3 hours where the staff did not show aloha. 1. My honey was called on stage and of course I wanted to record their performance. The nice tourist family allowed me to sit in the front of them so I could record without a blocked view. A staff lady kept on yelling at me to move. I will forever have a clip including audio of the being yelled at while I tried to record my significant other on stage participating in audience interaction activity. 2. During dinner, the bus escort came around to collect rubbish/trash from the table- they were making comments "throw away nobody" and laughing. Maybe they were trying to make a joke. But it was very inappropriate. 3. Ladies were called on stage to participate in the hukilau hula. Again, we wanted to capture video. Instead of using phrases like "Please" and "thank you". Staff was screaming "SIT DOWN". Hands down, poor reflection of Aloha which was a theme during the entire show. Learn some manners. Total a shame. We had considered to go to Polynesia Cultural Center. Next time, we will be going to Polynesia Cultural Center instead- they have a $15 each activity for Ohana Club members- buffet and show would only cost $30. read more

Due to the Polynesian Cultural Center being fully booked, this was one of the other Luau choices from the ITT military ticketing center. It was unfortunate that I did not have much time to check the reviews before booking this place. I'm not sure who is in charge of the operations but, they can improve in many different ways. More spending means more offers and I get it. But they can place some kind of shade for the original ticket buyers. It was burning hot to stay in line especially for the people who arrived bit early. It's kind of inhumane to make people stand in line where there's no shades period. For the dinner part, it is true that they make people wait till past 7pm to start self serving the buffet. We got there around 5 and many came around 515 as instructed. It's unacceptable for everyone to starve for no reason. People are from all over the places. 730pm can be 1030pm or past midnight for some people. The show starts around 8pm so everything is dragging unnecessarily. If they need everyone be to seated to start eating, they should ask their guests to come around 430 and start serving no later than 630pm. It's located in some random industrial area where minimum 20 miles away from whichever hotel people are staying. Start eating around 630pm and start the show around 7pm to end no later than 830pm. Show quality was average at best. It's minimal size of other shows especially for the price. The only positive experience was the food quality. We loved everything that was offered. All meat items were tasty and tender. If these guys improve on the time management and provide shade for the wait line, they can turn out to be a decent Polynesian show company. A good friend of mine treated me to a Luau at Germaine's and I had a wonderful night. From the moment we arrived we had big smiles on our faces that lasted for the whole experience. Everyone that works at Germaine's is so friendly and kind and you really get the feeling that they are welcoming you to a family and friends back yard luau. The performances are fantastic- I was mesmerized by the beautiful dancers and the rich culture on display. I was very excited about the digging up of the pig from the sand and it was truly delicious. Off top, It was great. The food taste good, the show was great, and the atmosphere was slightly electrifying. The location had some great natural back drops for photos and the cast/dancers were nice. This is my 3rd luau and my girlfriends 1st. The problems I had with it (although a great experience) was 1. once there, there was no clear marker on where to wait. 2. The wait from entry to show was long. 3. They ran out of certain items at the buffet during round 1 4. The LEI greeting was meh. (Hard shell lei) the flower lei wouldve definitely set tone for a more authentic feel. Overall, It being my girlfriends first, we had a really good time. I'd like to say I'm a seasoned vet for Germaine's Luau. With my families numerous vacations to Oahu, we were blessed to have been able to visit most if not all luau's on Oahu and there's something about Germaine's that's always so refreshing. I would have to say Germaine's isn't the top notch Luau but it's also not the bottom of the barrel. Quality it's right above average, for the amount you pay. The food quality is pretty consistent. I LOVE the boneless Beef short ribs and the boneless chicken. The Kailua pig, which they cook underground from 5am to the start of the Luau is pretty tasty too! One highlight of the Luau is when you watch the workers pull this juicy baby out of the sand and the initial smell is to die for. You notice the meat of the pig just fall of the bone and your mouth is automatically dropping with drool. Good stuff. Usually when my family visits we get the general tickets, where you go up to the buffet line and it's buffet style. This time around my brother opted for the VIP tickets: closer to the stage (front row), our plates are prepared with a little of everything and they are delivered to our table, plus we have access to our own bar. Would I say it's worth upgrading your tickets, yes-the lines tend to be long and by the time the Luau starts I'm usually close to hangry. The Luau show itself is about 2.5 hours in duration from start to finish. The cool thing is your ride in on big buses, so that you can drink as much alcohol your heart desires. They provide a DD for ya that picks you up in Waikiki and drops you off. The bus hostesses are super fun and get you pumped for the show. It's a show, for tourists, with food. There are three different levels of tickets, and depending on where you get your tickets there are deals to be had. The highest level is worth the price of its in your price range. The food is good and there's lots of it. Fruit, salad to get you started. Pork (kalua pig), chicken, beef, and fish, sticky rice, poi, roll, chocolate cake, vanilla cake, some sort of coconut gel, and perhaps more that I am forgetting. The pig and fish were really outstanding, sticky rice is always great, and roll was fresh. The chicken and beef were good, but not what I want when I go to a luau. The people are the real attraction here. Service from check in to departure was above and beyond; much more than expected. Caring interactions between the performers and tourists (an older lady with mobility issues, engagement with kids, and all the performers lining the exit sidewalk to thank everyone for attending) was heartwarming. Staff and performers showed humor in interactions that was appropriate and appreciated. Staff were friendly, and efficient. Performers were outstanding in their performance from the musicians to the dancers, it was FUN! Everyone appeared to enjoy entertaining and their smiles were electric. Lots to see, hear, eat, and enjoy! Highly recommended for those visiting Oahu. For residents, it is a dinner and a show friends and family visiting the island would enjoy. Parking wasn't a problem. However, our booking was canceled by Germaine's very last minute on THE DAY OF at 11AM " due to covid-19 protocol". Immediately, I started looking for other Luaus and there were absolutely NO AVAILABILITIES. Every comparable Luau out there was already sold out that day ( went down the list 1 by 1 on Google). Why, of course, it was the day of. We were so disappointed because we couldn't watch a Luau before we left Oahu the next morning. It was absolutely too late to make another booking. All I can say is WOW! Everything was fantastic from the shuttle driver (Jay) to the views to the food to the dancing. I read the reviews and honestly, I don't think some of these people went to this luau! Yes, it's behind the industrial park, but it's right on the beach, and you would never know you were in the industrial area. The food was really good--the pork was like most Kalua pork, but the chicken was amazing, the macaroni salad and cole slaw were great. We got two drinks each with just the basic package, and they were great. But really, the dancers made the show. Every dance was amazing. The fire dancing at the end topped off a perfect night for us. A friend recommended this luau to us on a family vacation because the one at our resort was sold out. Driving to the event space took you through kind of a sketchy area, and once there it cost five dollars to park. You are greeted warmly upon entering and presented with shell leis. Your party poses for a picture, a copy of which you can buy later for 20 dollars (and it comes beautifully packaged). There was a man doing hand-drawn tattoos, as well as women making flowers for your hair (all for free, but tips encouraged). We sat at a table-clothed picnic bench in the sand with gorgeous ocean views. We were presented with two drink tickets (non-alcoholic drinks are free). The bar is easy to get to and offers fast service, with a vast menu of fruity/tropical drinks. There is a ceremony of the pig at the beginning of the presentation that is very cool. You are called by table for the buffet line which includes fruit, salad, rice, chicken, pork, fish, and more. The entertainment was top notch which includes dancing, fire, and they even allow you on stage to do a dance. Your ticket can be turned in for a free gift at the end of the night. Absolutely terrible place. 2.5 hours of bugs biting you with no entertainment and no food, we were one of the first people there, but one of the last to get our food. Please don't come here, people constantly yelling at you to wear a mask outside but apparently they have no problem putting 3 FAMILIES AT 1 TABLE. That's not social distancing. So many kids were crying there because they were getting bit by mosquitoes and there's literally nothing to do, and no cell service. And the food was awful, I will never come back. This is our second time here at Germaine's. The first time was when i had to do my US entry for my greencard and then the second time was June of 2021 with our little ones. My son enjoyed this luau big time he was participating during cheers, etc. My baby on the other hand was comfortably sleeping on my shoulder while i rock her near the beach area. This was a great experience! I really felt transported to a lovely Hawai'in luau from the very start. It begins with the staff who are very pleasant. All of the performances were phenomenal and I wish I could see it all again. The beach where it takes place is beautiful and picturesque as well. To set the scene, there's a big, elevated stage with picnic tables spread throughout. About 700 people attended on our Sunday. There is A LOT of audience participation which is great. Unfortunately, they ran out of food! The haupia dessert was almost gone by the time we got up (we were last to be called for food) and COMPLETELY gone when I went up for seconds. FYI the general seating in the middle is the last to be called-probably because we have the best view of the show, which is totally worth it. If you're called last or close to it, get extra food on your first trip because going up for seconds will be disappointing. I think it is completely unacceptable that a buffet ran out of food and that they started clearing all but 1 of the food lines before the show was over. A ticket costs $88 before fees! read more
