I go to the weekly Swing Dance lesson and dance here every Wednesday. So fun! They have a nice little bar with delicious white German Riesling wine (what I always get), German beers on tap, and bottled water available, all at reasonable prices. Sam, the swing dance teacher, is awesome. You learn a lot for that hour, and get to practice dancing with a different partner every 3 minutes or so. I love it! The people are nice, you'll meet a lot of nice people, and it only costs $10 for the 1-hr lesson & 3 hours of DJ'd ballroom dance music after that. Try it! You'll like it! read more

Went to the Bock fest on Saturday (1/25) had a great time. Had the beer from Green Bench with the "hot poke " to it. It was a stein of beer with a " hot poke" dipped into it. Sounds a little weird but it was creamy and the beer had a totally different flavor... soo good. ( didn't cost for the poke)". Besides that they had a small band, dancing exhibit, lots of pastries and of course sausages. Was a fun experience.. We didn't eat there why? Well today was the 4th Saturday of the month so we ate in the German America Society restaurant. We had their special braised rabbit , sauerkraut and Spatzell. Again it was delicious. Since I discovered this place , can't say enough good things about it. Again locally owned, operated and staffed by volunteers. Kudos to the whole German American Society. read more

Four friends decided to attend a 'traditional Oktoberfest celebration. Entry fee was $10 each. We each had a bratwurst sandwich at $8 each with a tiny side of sauerkraut $3 - food was merely warm but tasty. We tried one potato cake which was cold, tasteless and burned on one side. Applesauce was ok, the sour cream was frozen. A small pitcher of imported beer ran $18. I understand it was a fundraiser for the Club and prices are gong to be high. But $70 per couple was a bit steep. Especially since the food wasn't hot and the pitchers of beer were short poured. Members were welcoming and nice although harried. The band was a typical but fun. We were there at opening and waited in line for 15 minutes to get our food. Later the wait was 45 minutes and some folks just left and never ate. Free on-site parking. Once again, the members were all very kind and were working hard to make it fun. They just needed to have more food stations and a better tap system. read more

I visited the German American Society for their annual Oktoberfest held over several weekends in October. The festival includes a band that plays German music and other varieties of music to get the crowd moving. There is a large dance floor in the middle of the event and there were definitely people dancing and having a great time. They serve two varieties of German beer including Oktoberfest and a lighter option. They also serve several food options including potato pancakes, schnitzel, bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut and more. Admission is $10 per a person and a pitcher of German beer is $18 which is a bit steep but there is a Groupon available for $26 that includes admission for two, a pitcher of beer and two potato pancakes. Best and ONLY TRUE Oktoberfest in the Tampa Bay area. If you like German beer, Brats, and real Germans playing the best drinking music, this is THE event to come to. Get here early for parking around the tent but there is parking in nearby lots. Admission is $8 to the event but tere are always Groupons and CL Deals offered ahead of time that include beer and food specials. The event runs weekends from Sept 29 to Oct 14th. This club has been open for years. You don't have to be a member to enjoy the traditional food and music, and if you are brave enough you can join in the dancing. Had a very good time here. Came here with my wife, son, daughter and her friend to celebrate Octoberfest. We had lived in Germany for six year and had only moved back to the USA for about seven months, and greatly missed Deutschland. We had lived in Bavaria, Garmisch to be precise which is close to Munich and were greatly missing our friends still there during Octoberfest time. The fest here was good. Many German Americans were there and there was good traditional music (though I'm used to German Pop / Rock being played more as the evening goes) it was very good. I came dressed in my true Bayrisch lederhosen and enjoyed the food and drink. Next year though I will bring a Mas stein from my house with and order a pitcher and fill it to drink as this is what I am used to. Wish the fest would have stayed open till midnight and the people would have stood on the tables drinking and dancing like in Bavaria or Minchin (Munich), but this was in the USA son I must adapt. I had a great time and look forward to this year's Octoberfest. I hope maybe they will also celebrate Fasching, Somerfest and maybe host a Christmas Market with Gluwein and schnapps. Would also like to see leiberkasa, and butter pretzels. In Germany we don't eat pretzels with mustard or cheese. We cut it in half and spread butter in between. Also I missed my usual shweinahaxen mit semmel knudel und jager schnitzel mit spatzle. And lastly Black Forest cake must have kirsch waser in it with real whipped cream. These I missed. More singing and dancing and beer next time please... We must show the Americans what a real Octoberfest is all about!!! read more
