VERY RUDE....When ever I go to Nick the Greeks next door I stop at the bakery to get my husband candy because sometimes they sell British candy as well. As I was walking to the door the cashier was coming out w her phone. As soon as she noticed my son and I walking towards the door her face changed and you clearly see that we upset her break. I get it when you want to take your break you want to take it. I smiled and said "its ok i am just looking in to see if you got new candy in stock". She opened the door angerly took a deep sigh and said something under her breathe. I stopped and didn't go in. I have worked many jobs in my life where it has been slow and when upu go to take break is when someone walls in the door. So i understand the frustration however, I never let a customer see it or experiance it. I swore to my son that i will never go in to this bakery again just because of this. My Austrian husband and I have been purchasing bread & sometimes pastries from this establishment for several years. The product quality is fine so this review isn't about food, but about my recent experience there. I went in last week to purchase a loaf of bread to take out of town as a host gift, which I mentioned to the woman working, who I believe was the owner. (She did not care) There was another customer there and they were talking about politics/immigration policies and someone moving to Bismarck North Dakota to "get away from the immigrants"when I entered. I was clearly not sharing their views (not responding when they looked at me for my reaction). I stayed silent while she double bagged my item, she and the other customer actually snickered at me because my (nonverbal) non agreement. It was rude, off putting and alienating. This is a small place located far from my bubble (12 miles). But I love a good bakery so I trekked out here. A big 4 stars ... I had pretzels which were great, a pretzel croissant (very good) and the most delicious creme filled crumb cake. Well worth the trip and the prices are very low. I wanted to order a European style cake for my dad's birthday and German Bakery delivered this wish. I was really pleased with how fast they did it and with a taste and the look of the cake. The pricing was very reasonable and what I liked the most is that the cake was not too sweet. I would def recomend this bakery. I've been craving real rye bread... You know that dense bread with a chewy crust...way different than the super market. Ok, you can some pretty good bread around, but for the real deal, you need to go here. Tucked away near Smith's, plaza with a sew and vac, Chinese place etc... Very well unassuming place. A couple of show cases for sausages etc... The pastry section looked yummy... All sorts of sugary treats. I got my light rye from the hipster counter girl.. she had a lot of patience dealing with way too chatty customers, but that's ok in the big scheme of things... Much better than the typical counter help that acts if they are doing u a favor by even acknowledging you. Anywho. . Got my rye bread, she sliced Irvine of those Godzilla commercial bread slicers... The whole store vibrated! Ate some bread on the way home Wunderbar!!!! So tasty. Had some more later slathered with nice salted butter, Cardiologist be damned! I'll be back! read more

This was our first time here. The lady at the store was rude! She told us that the lady before us "bought the all store and would make the manager happy"! I'm like okay ... Then we asked for the coffee cake . The lady told us it's a day old do you still want it? We are like yeah. We can see that it says it's marked down. It's still good. Then when we asked if you could slice the bread we bought because they have a bread slicer. The lady said no. She said supposedly they weren't allowed to slice any of the bread besides pumpernickel. My husband laughed. He worked at a bakery and knows that it is one of the hardest breads to slice. So we were like okay .. Then we were checking out and asked for the receipt she said she didn't know how to get back into the system and print the receipt. I'm like woah. The food was good. That was the only reason why I gave this place two stars. I will upload some pictures later. read more

Utter trash. First this is not even close to what you would find in Germany. This place has extremely limited selection of faux german cakes and pastries. It's incredibly sparse inside. On top of that, none of the typical baked goods you would find in a German bakery. It's almost offensive this place exists. read more

Just about everything is phenomenal here, and I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong no matter what you get, but the two items above are my favorites. Staff is super friendly: if you don't know what to get, they're happy to suggest some items and explain what's in the different pastries. Don't forget to check the discount table for 30% off of day-old bread loaves. Pricing is super reasonable and quality is astounding. Location is a bit of a drive for me, but I'll go out of my way to come here. Heads up that sometime they forget to turn on their OPEN light, but they are open til 2PM on Sundays. read more

Though my visit to the German Bread Bakery was brief lasting only about 5 minutes, it was a good 5 minute first impression. I was struck first by the smell of fresh baked goods. I love that smell. It reminds me of growing up when I would bake with my mom and my grandma. Especially around the holidays. There was nobody up front when I first walked in but the lady came out almost right away and asked how she could help me. She was not a Chatty Kathy but not unfriendly either. Just very professional with her answers in a German accent. I asked her about a couple of things and told her it was my first time to the shoppe. She told me about the bee sting cake which I had heard about through Yelp. I was already leaning towards trying that and she just pushed me a little closer to the decision. Close enough that it was decided and I ordered one of those. I also was eyeing the rum balls. I like rum and I like chocolate so that was a no brainer. I ordered one of those as well. Next thing I know I was being rung up ($4 and change) and instructed to keep the bag on its side so that the sweets inside would not get all messed up. I took these treats home with me and broke into the rum ball first. It was the smaller of the two and I was kind of full from lunch an hour earlier. This was the perfect size for a mid day dessert. The first thing I notice is that it does not appear to be baked at all. It seems almost like under cooked brownies with some grit. Not in a bad way at all. Infact, I loved it 100%. I looked up some recipes to see exactly what it was. The best I can figure is chocolate, sugar, butter, ground hazel nuts, and rum. Perhaps even some toasted coconut. There aint nothin' wrong with that. It was so good. A little sweet. A little drunk. Divinely evil. I tried the bee sting cake later in the day for my after dinner dessert. I was only going to have a few bites of what was actually a rather big piece of cake. That plan was quickly tossed aside after the first bite proved too much to ignore. It was not overly sweet as I expected it to be. The cake is more of a yeast bread and is a little dry compared to traditional cake. There are two layers of this baked good with a Bavarian cream in the middle. On the top is a caramelized almond cap with honey. That is where the bulk of the sweetness seemed to be but even that was not too sweet. It was just right. Before I knew it the entire piece was gone and I found myself wanting more. I love almonds, honey and Bavarian cream. This is like a trifecta of goodness. I will have to go back for some other baked goods. Like pretzels and rolls. There are many other desserts to try as well. It may take me a few more visits to try it all. Oh darn the luck. read more

I finally had a chance to visit this bakery which is a hop, skip, and a jump from me, something I've wanted to do for quite some time; I remember when it used to house a Baskin Robbins ice cream joint back in the day. My Yelp friends' reviews are spot on; this place has some tasty treats at friendly prices. Two pretzel croissants, a cinnamon doughnut, and a peanut butter cookie (for the b/f) cost only $3.86. I ate one of the pretzel croissants on the way to the gym and, boy, this place is going to see more of me just based on that carb delight! I've heard the beesting cake is something to try, so I'll save that for the next visit, as well as a chocolate croissant. Everything in the cases looks good, and they also sell German sausages. Germans take everything seriously, including their pastries. I consider myself lucky to have a German opa (grandfather), just as Las Vegas is very fortunate to have this super authentic German bakery. Both times I've visited, it has been a challenge to narrow down my selections from the display case and counters of various Bavarian delights. Strudels are formed in an adorable bell shape with fillings of apple or spiced cherries. I was intrigued by the beesting cake, a layer of cake topped with Bavarian cream and crunchy sliced almonds in a honey caramel-- one fine German dessert! I can never pass on a slice of apple crumb cake. They also come up with some special items, such as a chocolate pear cake that I tried recently. It was like a coffee cake containing dark chocolate chips and drizzled with white chocolate. It's not all about the sweets, as the breads baked here are also amazing. Fresh pretzels are available in various shapes. On my last trip, I picked up a loaf of marble rye that became an instant favorite. This bread has enough flavor to stand on its own, but it also makes for the best sandwiches ever with just a few simple added ingredients. GBB has recently added a section of German groceries, including sauce mixes, some cheeses, chocolates and candies, and other fun food items. There's a curry ketchup that looks very interesting; one of the ladies told me that it is the perfect bratwurst condiment. I can't wait to explore some of these unique options. Which reminds me, it's time to get back to the German Bread Bakery for another loaf of marble rye, and to see if I'm lucky enough to find any seasonal stollen still on the shelves! read more

I stopped in yesterday when I was in this plaza as I had read good things about the bakery on Yelp. I was disappointed in the rolls I bought. They were multi-grain topped rye rolls and they were dry. I haven't yet tried the pretzel rolls. I hope they're better than the rye ones. I also bought two cookies, a peanut butter and a chocolate chip. The peanut butter cookie was good. The chocolate chip is in the freezer for another day. Since this isn't my neighborhood, I'll stop elsewhere for baked goods. I stopped by and wow, what a find. I wanted to get a simple pastry for the road but ended up buying two almond horseshoes, a pretzel stick, apple strudel, that chocolate thing from belgium, and a loaf of rye bread. That almond horseshoe had a unique taste but I liked it. I wanted another after I was done with the two. The pretzel stick was good too, I prefer that over the pretzel knot. I enjoyed the hell out of that rye bread and everything else I bought here. This isn't the best bakery I've been to but it's damn good and worth stopping by at. Chocolate croissant? Yes please!!! My love for chocolate croissants and the fact that I was right across the street led me to this bakery. Parking is a bit tight in that shopping center but where there's chocolate there's a way. I saw exactly what I wanted right away. I didn't look around but my husband did ask what the black and white cookies are. After paying 3 bucks for my croissant I was on my way home. The verdict: the croissant wasn't very flaky and light as I prefer it to be. Instead it was very bready and doughy if that miss sense. It felt like a piece of bread with chocolate inside. I was visiting Vegas and I had to stop by my favorite bakery. It's still as good as it ever was. The ladies working here are such hard workers and all so nice. The pretzel croissant is to die for. I successfully made my Vegas friends addicted to them. I also like the almond pastries. If it has chocolate covering it can be a bit sweet. Once again you have to hit this spot early if you want to have options. They make their bread every day and they run out! They do have a low number of day old bread on the side that's a bit cheaper. Carbs upon carbs - that's probably the best way to describe German Bread Bakery. Tucked away in a shopping center, this place is far too nondescript considering all the deliciousness that lies past the door. Walking in, it took me a minute to process all the options and decide what I wanted. The woman behind the counter was very patient and incredibly friendly - not at all exacerbated after I decided to add on more and more. All in all, I decided upon a pretzel roll, pretzel twist, apple strudel, pudding danish and an almond horseshoe - all of which cost under eight dollars. I couldn't even wait until I got home to start devouring, but in my defense, the drive home was half an hour. Parking lot snacks, for the win! The pretzel twist was not at all what I expected - it was light, but with a nice crust and touch of salt. Next thing standing in my path was the almond horseshoe. The cookie itself was a bit too almond-y for my liking, but pretty good overall. When I got home, I gave my mom the apple strudel, which she finished off in five minutes - a sign this place got it right. I tried a bit before she really honed in, and it was flaky, subtly sweet, and brimming with apple chunks. The pudding danish was slowly picked off by both my brother and I - something as light as that danish is deceptive. I'm sure it's packed with fat and calories, but it sure didn't seem like it while I finished it off. This is the sort of place I really love. A quaint place that makes quality products without love produced by the overabundance of sugar or preservatives. As I was leaving, the woman asked if this was my first time visiting, to which I positively confirmed. Her response was "Well, I hope to see you soon. If not soon, then eventually." I was able to stop here on a Monday. This place is hidden to me and is located near the Smith's shopping centre on Rampart and W. Lake blvd. These German breads and rolls are manufactured by hand according to traditional original German recipes. I could tell by the quality and freshness of their baked goods. From what I learned they do not use artificial dyes, artificial flavoring or preservatives. I got most of the ones the lady recommended. Apple-Danish (Apfeltasche) Cheese-Danish (Kaesetasche) Poppy-Coffee-Cake (Mohnstriezel) Almond Horn (Mandelstange) They were fresh and not so sweet like American desserts. The woman working gave us a few extra donuts knowing it was our first time. I ordered: Pretzel roll- chewy on the outside and doughy on the inside Berliner- not overly sweet like most jelly donuts found in American donut shops. Strawberry jelly is made in house but their is only a small dollop towards the end of the donut 3 seed bread- all breads are made without sugar and personally I like my bread to be a bit sweet. I've already been there 3 times past 5 days! - Do try its delicious soft pretzel rolls ($0.75) and apple strudels ($2?), among other treats! The pretzel stick and pretzel twist ($1.40) are actually made from the same dough, but more expensive for being larger in size? Go there during the morning, if you want the pretzel rolls, which are usually the first ones to go! - Its pumpernickel loaf ($4.99) is tasty, but a bit on the hard and dry side especially after a day; not quite suitable for making a sandwich with. - The bakery also carries some meat/grocery items, which I have not yet sampled, however. - This bakery is quite small, but bright and inviting, what with its glass window & glass door, not to mention the wonderful aroma permeating in the air and the nice display of tempting goodies! There are three nice ladies working there. Two of them are extra friendly and cheerful! They speak German to each other, as well as to some German speaking customers. I worked for a while in a small town in Germany (Glinde bei Hamburg) some years back, which has a couple of small bakeries I frequented. My wife and I still visit fabulous Germany every now then.
