I've had fairly substantial work done on my BMW at German Excellence twice, and my then-fiancé had brought his car in once, as well. While it's always on the pricey side and that isn't exactly surprising, it's become glaringly obvious and excessive at this point. As an example, the cabin air filter in my BMW is extremely easy to change. It is no more difficult than pumping gas. Anyone can do it; it literally takes less than 2 minutes and requires no tools. For context, the cabin filter *retails* for ~$30. They proposed doing it for over $100. (I declined that particular recommendation.) With that frame of reference, one can only imagine how much they're overcharging for everything else. My car needed other more pressing things done, and I was in a bit of a bind time-wise, as we were in the process of a long-distance move and buying a house. Under different circumstances, I'd have likely made different choices. The unpleasant receptionist/office manager people have complained about in reviews, wondering why she still had a job? Well, she's the owner's daughter. And the owner died recently, so guess who's running the show now. If she is half as unpleasant to work for as she is to interact with, I have serious reservations about the business's longevity. My advice would be to go elsewhere. read more

I made an am appt and dropped my car off at opening 8am for an oil change and glow plug wire replacement. Within an hour got a call about how they would need to charge a diagnostic fee. Fine although I know the problem and I took the day off work. Wait the whole day and show up near closing time - that's when they decide to tell me they hadn't done anything whatsoever. Not bothered to call me. Asked for my key and left. Will never go back and they are losing a lot of money with me. Had been there several times already as I drive 80k miles a year. Warning. Think twice before taking your car here. They misdiagnosed the severity of the problem on my daughters BMW. There was a gas smell at the rear wheel well for some time and the service manager told us it was not dangerous and the replacement of the fuel cell was not urgent and he sent them on their way. NOTE: My grandkids car seats sit on top of the fuel tank. Needless to say she ended up at the dealer the next business day and they advised this needed immediate replacement due to a fire hazard. There was fuel sitting on top of the unit which they showed us that could have caught fire. **We were not shown a picture or video or made aware there was any fuel sitting outside of the unit when the car was at German Excellence**' The dealer replaced the fuel sending unit (Not sure that is the technical term) and the gas smell was gone. Next day I called and talked to the owner and she had the gall to say they would have replaced it for less that the dealer. Heck no! Long story short. The owner said she would take appropriate action with the service manager. I asked for at least our $110.00 back for the diagnostic. All I got was silence. Beware! read more

I went to this place when I was in Orlando visiting. I found them on Yelp when I was looking for a place that worked on classic Porsche's. I called them and asked if they can reset my airbag light on my Porsche 968. They told me that they could do it but they close at 6:00pm. I rushed down there just barely before 6:00. They were very polite to me even after showing up a few minutes before they close. They fixed my car and when it came for me to pay they didn't charge me anything. The lady at the front desk is so down to earth. The guys here do their best for you and service you as quick as the can. The location is easy to find. Complimentary coffee, soda, and water. Clean one toilet restroom. They keep you updated on what's going on. First come, first serve. Even though I'm poor and can't really afford my German car (a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle) they still told me everything I needed to get the job done even if I had to do it myself, the guy who gave me my estimate was not offended. I will never use this shop again! I brought our Z3 to experience "German Excellence" but what I experienced was far short of excellent. First off, I must say, I never write reviews. In fact, I hate the idea that I am forced to write about my experience, however given my awful experience, I feel it necessary to share. I also fully understand the shops position on my issue, however, given the fact that they have refused to at least acknowledge any potential wrongdoing, it leaves me no other choice than to share my experience. To make a long story short, we towed in our Z3 due to a fuel pump issue. The fuel pump was replaced along with some intake hoses and new spark plugs to the tune of $2,000!!! When I get the call from the shop that the car was ready, they told me that the clutch was going out. I had never had an issue with changing gears in this car before bringing it to "German Excellence" but I understand it is an older vehicle and I was in desperate need to get my car back. I declined the repair and got my car from the shop. On the way home, less than two miles from the shop, I am suddenly unable to change gears. I had to coast into a parking lot. The clutch was completely shot. I called the shop and tell them the issue. I explain that the car was brought in for a fuel pump, and given back to me with a blown clutch. After a couple days, the shop called me back to offer a 10% discount for a new clutch. HOW GENEROUS!?! I was told that they trust their technicians and that there was "no way they caused any damage to the clutch." I explained that I trusted them to give me the repairs I needed, but they need to trust me, that I never had an issue with the clutch before. They refused to give me anything for the poor experience or the inconvenience of being stranded on the side of the road for a car that they broke. I am sure they are all nice people that work there but do yourself a favor and find a better shop. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I was grossly overcharged. They charged me $638.91 to change the oil and replace the battery in my BMW 4 series. I checked with another local garage and they would have charged me $313 for the same services. German Excellence credited the bill $8, due to an error in the pricing of the battery!! I then personally talked with the owner and explained the situation and he refused to make any other adjustment. I strongly discourage anyone from using their services if pricing is important to you. read more

Took my E350 Mercedes in for a brake fluid flush and refill. Was charged a little over a hundred bucks which I thought was fair. A couple months later I took the same vehicle in to have an alignment. During their so-called fluid check, they informed me that my brake fluid was bad and recommended a fluid flush and refill. (Are you getting the picture yet). I told the guy on the phone that either they're lying to me now, or you guys lied to me 2 months ago and never actually performed the service that I paid for then, which I have a receipt to show proof of. He said his testing kit might have been off in calibration. Either way, it was shady and unethical. This happened a year ago and I haven't been back since. This is going to be very long as I will describe each of my 3 visits in detail so that you can come to your own conclusions. I used to always bring my VW Taureg to the dealer for work, but decided to try this place as I thought it would be much less expensive than the VW dealer. Let me preface this review by saying that they always get the work done right away. Even when I tell them I don't need the car back right away. Also, Rick, I think he's the owner, not sure, is very nice. 12/29/2014 Visit 1: the car completely died in a parking lot and so I had it towed to GE(German Excellence). It ended up that it was the battery. They replaced the battery and did an inspection and gave me a LONG laundry list of things that were wrong. Funny the VW dealer never told me these things. The oil looked "dirty". Well this was highly unlikely as I had just had it changed at the VW dealer and still had at least 5k miles before it needed to be changed again. They told me I had the wrong brake light installed. This was true... I had replaced it myself with the wrong type of bulb. They told me my rear brake pads would need replacing soon and that once the light comes on to have it done asap...fair. They told me that the third LED brake light in the top center had lights burned out... This was completely false. Also my parking brake release handle had broken off so I had them order the part (which we paid for in advance) and would return to have that fixed. They were supposed to call me when the part came in. A couple of weeks passed and no call. When I called Rick, he had forgotten to order the part and so he did it then. The total bill for this was $433.23 and I will post pics of all receipts. 1/22/2015 Visit 2: I brought the car in to get the parking brake handle replaced. Rick called me to inform me that (LOW AND BEHOLD!!!) The brake light had come on while they had the car! Coincidence or not? It wasn't on when I drove the 2 miles to his shop. Anyway... I said fine and they replaced the rear brake pads. When I picked up the car they had not turned the rotors. They only put the pads on... Now, I'm no mechanic, but I'm no moron either. The rotors were slightly grooved and I thought it was a,ways standard procedure to smooth them out before putting new pads on. Maybe I'm wrong. So then we go to pick up the car and we were looking at the bill. They were charging us a second time for the parking brake handle that we had already paid for. When we asked Rick, he looked for but could. It find our old receipt in our file and so I grabbed my copy out of the glove box to show him... OOPS! Sorry Rick. The total bill for these two very small jobs was $264.88. 2/05/2015 Visit 3: okay so... My car has less than 76k miles on it. However, a couple of weeks after my last visit to GE, the car starts making this vibrating sound that got progressively worse over two days. I brought it to GE again. I was really worried because it sounded BAD. I talk to a guy and he says it sounds like the drive shaft, which he told me is quite common in my type of vehicle. I ask him if it's pretty pricey... He says, not too bad. I guess it's all relative. So they call me later in the day. Rick called. Rick is VERY NICE, btw... I like the guy. Anyway he says it's the rear drive shaft and they will need to replace the entire part at around $1244 for parts and labor. I have no idea how much this would normally cost so I agree... What choice do I have. Then I was so worried that I was being gouged so I googled a bit and it seemed somewhat fair for that job. So I go to pick up the car. The first two times we had gone in my fiancé was always with me and he always paid for the work. Well this time he had to go on a business trip, literally to the other side of the world. So we called Rick in advance to ask if I could just bring in his credit card information and pay that way. He agreed. So I ride my bike up there to pick up the car. I walk into the office out of breath and sweaty, anxious to have my car back. So the girl in the office, Shae, (spelling?) gives me attitude when I tell her about the credit card arrangement. So she leaves to go speak to Rick. Then she comes back and she was a serious WITCH! She says something to the effect of, "well I personally wouldn't allow this, but I guess I can do it if Rick agreed to it". So I say... "But we've been in here before and he has paid every time." I'm thinking... Don't you have that in your files you stupid biotch? and if you don't, you have cameras in here, my tag number, my address and name, and a copy machine... Maybe take a copy of my drivers license? So then she says, "Well I have no idea whose credit card this is". It becomes immediately apparent to me why she is working this low wage job. This royally pissed me off as the bill was $1336.22. We had already paid them so much and this witch can speak to a customer this way? She needs to be FIRED. My first experience with German Excellence was a good one as much for what they did NOT do as for what they did do for my 2006 BMW 330 convertible. I told them the convertible top was very slow. My fear was that they would need to replace the motor, but they said it was just low on fluid and replenished it. I also told them that I'd heard creaking in the suspension system, fearing that the front strut mounts or control arms/bushings need replacement. They tested several times and found that everything was fine with the suspension (I don't drive the car a lot). They also did locate and repair the source of a leak that a dealership's mechanics had been unable to locate, but had blamed on another source and charged me for. So, my first experience has left me thinking German Excellence lives up to its name and reputation for honesty and a high level of competence. It also says something that their customer parking lot is packed with high end Porsches, Mercedes, BMW and track racers. They have obviously earned a loyal group of customers over the years. read more

I have know Don from the time where he worked at Zotz and then later became the owner and has now expanded to German Excellence. He and his crew have been working on ALL of my cars for over 15 years now. That is a range of Porsche 911, 996, Boxster, Cayenne, BMW 540 and Benz 560SEL. I keep coming back because I trust him to fix my problem and because he is HONEST and TRUST WORTHY. Qualities that I require in people I do business with. I have been doing Porsche Drivers Ed for over 20 years, this is where I get my performance work done as well. Don and his team knows Porsche cars to a level seldom duplicated. You could say my 2000 996 is a perfect example, after 10 years of heavy tracking my 996 it was time to replace the engine, Well this was an "opportunity" to upgrade my 3.4 to a 3.7 w/ a factory performance package....(that's the excuse I used...in this case who needs an excuse...LOL)....Don was able to get a new 997 motor in the box from Porsche and worked a LOT of magic she runs GREAT...see Don for all the real details. There is a difference between knowing and doing....Don and crew got it done. I should add that I live now live in Tampa (for the past 7 years) and continue to have all my cars serviced here. I spent a lot of money to buy these cars, I am grateful to have found someone I trust to work on them....the fact that German Excellence is in Orlando just lets me enjoy a nice drive over to see Don, I would go much further if required. With some places you may get recommendations saying your millage may vary. My experience was regretfully disappointing. On March 9, 2015 I called to see if I can make an appointment for early morning Wednesday March 11, 2015 for a routine transmission service on my C300. The gentleman on the phone said he was booked for early morning and that the earliest he has available is 11am. I told him that would be perfect for me and gave him my name and number. I arrived Wednesday the 11th for my 11am appointment and the gentleman (Rick) said he didn't have me down for an appointment. He told me that he thought I said I was going to call him back despite me telling him on the phone that 11am would be perfect for me. Despite this, I wanted to give them a chance based on the amazing reviews. Therefore, I scheduled another appointment for the following Wednesday on March 18, 2015. I called three seperate times to politely confirm my appointment to avoid what happened the first time. I called later that same day, Friday the 13th, and Monday the 16th. Everything was looking perfect. I dropped my car off today (the 18th) before my scheduled appointment at 9am and told Rick that I'd pick it up before 4pm. When I arrived at 3:30pm my car hasn't been serviced and in fact didn't even move an inch. Rick, said he was sorry but he was really busy with some other vehicles that had complications. By now, I've driven there three separate times from Kissimmee, FL to Winter Park, FL and my car still hasn't been serviced. It would only take 30 seconds to give me a courtesy call that he has not worked on my car yet. Unfortunately, that was it for me. There was no offer made to deliver my vehicle to me for the inconvenience, there was no offer to discount the services, there wasn't much care for the hours of my time wasted, toll money wasted, gas money wasted, work lunch break wasted, no effort was made to make things right. I'm sure they do quality work on their vehicles and unfortunately I wasn't able to experience that first hand.
