I was told that my car's front brake pads were at 10%, I inquired about the price, $400 for a complete brake overhaul, they won't just replace the pads. Also suggested to change the spark plugs. I don't have that much, picked up my car without any work done Well today I had a friend, who is a mechanic at one of Bend's largest auto dealers, take a look at the brakes, he said they didn't need be replaced, the pads has about 30-40% thickness. They also recommend new spark plugs, but it doesn't look like they even checked them. If possible get a second opinion for an expensive repair even though the reviews are good for a repair shop. read more

I have been a very happy customer every time I've come here. Their prices are fair, the service excellent, and the work exemplary! I cannot recommend them highly enough! I learned about them from a friend, who brought his Lexus in, with some kind of problem. They looked out it, and said, "Oh, that's a simple fix, nothing to it!" CROOKS, MISLEADING, UNETHICAL- nice mechanics - but crooks. All smiles when you go into drop off your car. My ask- I think something is wrong with my belt- can you take a look and verify? Yes we will have a look and call you tomorrow for an update..... No call, just a text saying my vehicle is ready. $119. I figured they did something to the vehicle. Nope. When I went in the they told me they verified the issue and it would cost $500+ to fix AND $119 was my balance. Balance for what? Telling me about the work you need to do to my car? Con artists- no one ever disclosed that there was a charge to tell me what's wrong with it. If there were, I would have declined. Plenty of other shops offer a diagnostic and if there's a fee they apply that to the work they do. NOT HERE- These crooks charge a diagnostic fee ON TOP of the cost of repairs. Save your money and go elsewhere. Michelle- go ahead and chime in and tell everyone what you told me - it was clearly well rehearsed, what was it? Oh yea, "it's up to you the consumer to ask, do you expect a dentist or doctor to not charge when you come in with an issue?, it's the same thing" - No it's not - get it straight - that's an unethical move and doctors and dentists are required to follow a code of ethics - your not either and my bad for assuming people are honest. We have been back to Happy Danes 3x. The first time I had an issue that turned out to just be the battery but, they got me in quickly and fixed the issue quickly. The next visit was a scheduled oil change and inspection. It took far longer than I anticipated and we had to come back for the work that was needed- BUT SPECTACULAR SERVICE. SUPER KIND AND INFORMATIVE! The 3rd was a week later for the work that was discovered at the oil change visit. They were very honest and very up front with costs and timing . Our vehicle was done early and the woman even came out of her lunch break to help us. We will continue to use them to service our vehicle. Very honest. Very sweet front desk staff! We took our son's Ford Ranger in for a diagnostic test, to trouble shoot why his truck was running rough and we received an inaccurate diagnosis. They actually misdiagnosed the problem with the truck, they did not do the service's that they claimed to have done. My husband found the problem and it was a very simple fix, that any certified mechanic should have easily diagnosed. When we called to complain about their service and the fact that they did "nothing" to help in the diagnosis of our truck, we were treated very rudely and told if we didn't like their service to complain, they did nothing to resolve the situation. So here it is, we are leaving this review in the hopes that someone else will not be "ripped off" by the complete lack of competency that we experienced. I would not recommend this shop. read more

While visiting town my truck broke down and I feared the worst given the problem was transmission related. Happy Danes got me in right away and did what they could to diagnose my problems. When the issue turned out to be factory warranty related, they gave me all the info and didn't charge me a dime. Everyone from the office staff to the mechanic I spoke to gave me 5 star service. I was driving to Seattle from Nevada, pulled off of the highway into Bend, and found that Bend had not been able to perform snow removal throughout the city due to a record breaking snow event. I put my F150 into 4 wheel Drive and realized that it would not go into 4x4. I called Happy Danes due to recommendations by Les Schwab and left a message on their after hours recorder that I needed the truck looked at in the morning. I received a call from Happy Danes the next morning and was told to have my truck to them by 9:00 am. I arrived, they took my truck into the shop and tested the 4x4. They found no problems, which surprised me since I had tried to get the truck to shift at least 30 times in the previous 12 hours. Something must have defrosted so that the truck would shift after I stopped at Happy Danes. I was ready to pay for the time they had spent, probably 30 minutes and had put my truck onto the lift, and was told that there was no charge. This place is as honest as it gets. I was very happy with the quality of service and repair at Happy Danes. Michelle, Leah, and the whole crew were very communicative throughout the process, and the work was completed quickly. My only complaint is that in the midst of a global pandemic that has so far killed 119,000 fellow Americans they are not keeping the safety of their guests and their community as a priority. Everyone should be wearing a mask, but most certainly businesses need to protect their customers by wearing masks. I would have given 5 stars and come back, but that kind of careless neglect toward a life and death situation makes me question their other decisions. read more

Happy Danes did work that didn't need to be done, forgot to do work that should have been done and was sloppy with some of the work that they did do. I needed to find a shop in town. Went to Happy Danes on a friend's recommendation. We were planning a long road trip to Utah and I wanted to get our vehicle ready. My Toyota minivan needed a 90,000 mile major tune-up, front brakes and had been low on coolant. Dropped the van off for the tune-up. Got a call that it was time to change the plugs and did i want the back three coils changed at the same time? Valid question since there as a lot of labor to change one of the coils if one went out later. Got the bad news that the water pump was leaking and needed to be changed. $1500 later I picked up the van. It was great to have the brake pedal nice and high again. Took off for Utah. Just south of Salt lake City the Maintenance Required light came on, meaning an oil change was needed. Maybe Happy Danes just forgot to reset it. Checking the receipt I don't see any charges for the oil change. I give them a call since I'm about to go out of cell coverage range. No, apparently they didn't change the oil or do any of the rest of the tune-up. No, they don't know why they skipped the work. No problem, they say, the belts and hoses were checked when the water pump was changed so i\I should be still good to go. I get back home and check what is involved in the 90,000 mile major tune-up. There were about 20 checks and inspections that Happy Danes had skipped. On top of that, the plugs didn't need to be changed until 120,000 miles. Went down to the shop and talked to Linda. Two days later I get a call that they don't know why the work was skipped but I could drop the van off again and they would finish it. I asked about why the plugs were changed when they didn't need to be. They don't know. No apology. No offer of a refund. Forgetting to do work is bad enough. Charging for unnecessary work is worse. Not apologizing and offering a refund to a customer when he finds out about unnecessary work is even worse. I started wondering if the water pump was really bad or maybe the leak was just a cracked hose. Maybe I should have gone down to see the leak myself. I realized that I needed to find a new shop. I no longer trust these guys. I cancelled the follow-up appointment. Went to the local dealer to finish the tune-up. Great service there. Got the news that I needed a new water pump. What??? Turns out that Happy Dane's didn't clean up the spilled anti-freeze around the pump, making look as if there was still a leak. I won't be going back. read more

This shop will take your money and send you on your way while doing the bare minimum to make sure your vehicle is serviced or fixed properly. When my driveline was wrongly diagnosed, Michelle twisted the notes written by the technician and tried to convince me that a my original diagnoses, a failing carrier bearing, was actually a failing driveline that would need total replacement, and that the issue had been communicated to me from the beginning. It wasn't. In fact happy Danes never even gave me a call regarding the state of my vehicle after inspection. They sent me a text saying my vehicle was out front waiting to be picked up. 2 days and 3 phone calls later I finally got through to someone who advised me my pickup wasn't safe to drive. Don't give this shop your time or money, it will only result in a headache. read more

They diagnosed it as an east quick fix, and had me on the road again within 2 hours. They could have sold me parts and labor that I didn't need, but they didn't. I have been here twice with my 2003 Honda Civic. The first time was because my heater died in the beginning of winter. I get so nervous with car stuff because I don't know anything about fixing cars, and in the past people have taken advantage of that. Not Happy Danes! They were quick, knowledgeable, kind and explained everything to me thoroughly. I felt that the price was fair for repairing my car as well. The second time, was because my car just wouldn't start. I explained to them that I had already charged the battery AND tried jumping it, to no avail. Both the receptionist and Brandon were quick to help and fix my car. Brandon called me twice and explained to me my options before setting off to fix it. I appreciate that so much. So, my car has 185,000 miles on it and I have had to "frequent" Happy Danes lately. they have been very accommodating and their professionalism and accurate estimates have been a relief. I had my brakes replaced and Friday I am having my Left bearings and cap replaced. I appreciated that they gave me a "stern" heads up that I need not drive long distances until I get it replaced and when I asked how soon I needed to do it, they said no more than 1 week. They take safety seriously, and I appreciate that. They did even grimace, when I asked if it was okay for me to drive back and forth to Sister's everyday. They weren't overly trilled, so I could tell they were seriously about the one week timeline. Then, when I called back to set up my appointment, and I requested a breakdown of the fees, they did a great job explaining how they came up with them, which also lead me to believe they were being accurate. I also recall about 20 years ago when I took my car in there when I lived in Bend to get a "once over" and actually said that nothing needed to be done! Really! These guys a living off of their reputation. They did exactly what a stereo typical rip off shop would do. They 'fixed' a rubbing condition on a hard turn by charging me $155 for a replacement brake hose, but they failed to properly secure the hose and never took it for a test drive (which I approved)... it wasnt fixed. it turns out both hoses needed to be secured PROPERLY in order to fix it, which was done for free by another mechanic as part of a brake inspection. They told me my oil pan gasket was leaking and it would be $425 to replace it... I was getting $1600 in repairs done and asked for a discount... because $425 is steep for this type of repair in previous cars. Their response "we have been around for long enough that we dont offer discounts"... luckily I opted to wait on that repair. As it turns out, it wasn't an oil pan gasket, it was much worse and higher on the engine and oil was dripping down to the oil pan. I would have wasted $425 not fixing the real problem. Finally, they suggested I get a tune up since it was time for my 90k mile service. As it turns out... my jeep doesnt require a tune up for another 10k miles. They said the spark plugs weren't 'gapped' properly... the second opinion mechanic said that doesn't appear to be the case and I should wait for the scheduled service time. Save your money... go to a mechanic who wants to build/protect their reputation, not one living off of it. read more
