The cons: On my initial (free) workout, i was given very little guidance and had to find someone to help. This was awkward, to be honest. I didn't get a tour nor was getting on and off the bike explained well. No one asked for an ID (nor was i informed of costs or fees (i.e., canceling classes with less than 24 hour notice = $10 fee)). No Sunday classes. The app needs development! The pros: Everything else. I love the instructors (inspirational!) , the playlists (fun but explicit), the encouragement and support of the other members... all of it. Stats are updated in real time on the monitor and allow you to see how hard you pushed yourself via the app following the class. Despite the concerning start, I did sign up for a membership and I love attending CycleBar. With a few tweaks, other (potential) members will feel more at ease, increasing sign ups! read more

After 5 CycleBar classes, I'm pretty darn hooked. A little background: I'm at an intermediate fitness level. I work out 5-6 days a week and consider myself to have pretty good stamina. Not fast at all and I had never done a spinning class before going to CycleBar. I had been wanting some to supplement my current fitness routine. CycleBar offers a free introductory class and it's only 30 minutes long. I signed up, figuring if it wasn't my thing...well, it's only 30 minutes. Like others, I was quite impressed by CB's ambience. The team helps you get situated and find the right pair of cycling shoes (rental is "free" or included in class price). There are free water bottles, fruit, and even little beauty products in the bathroom. I had Grace as my instructor CycleStar. She did a fantastic job getting us set up and comfortable on the bikes. Her class was challenging but fun and I felt encouraged the entire time. The classes I've been to since then have been great! Every class is different but I always get a good workout and feel accomplished. Overall, I highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys challenging themselves and is looking for a welcome atmosphere to work out in. Best cycle class I've taken in a while! I was welcomed by the friendliest staff. Can't lie the class itself was intense but worth it- Especially eating so much food during the holidays. The support provided to get set up properly was great! I felt ready for the ride. Lastly, the trainer was AWESOME! Can't remember his name but he killed it! I felt challenged! The music throughout was EVERYTHING and kept me pumped throughout the entire workout. I look forward to going back for another ride! read more

Four and a half stars. My brother and I took advantage of a CycleBar Groupon while we were home for the holidays, doing four 50-minute classes over a week. Although I'm no endorphin junkie, I take spin classes at Flywheel and/or Soul Cycle at least weekly in Chicago; I wasn't sure what to expect from a smaller studio in the Memphis 'burbs. Psh! If the Germantown CycleBar studio suddenly planted itself in my Chicago neighborhood, I'd choose it over Flywheel or Soul Cycle in a heartbeat. Like Flywheel, CycleBar bikes display the rate and resistance, allowing each rider to monitor their progress. And like Soul Cycle, the instructors are always moving--almost dancing--on the bikes, doing push-ups, sit-ups, tap-backs and more. I do wish the displays on the bike updated a little faster; I sensed a lag time in my reported rate and resistance. read more

Newbie to cycling. I am really impressed with the entire experience. So much energy, great music, enthusiastic instructor, cleanliness, and the staff was really accommodating. Everyone in my class enjoyed themselves and had a great hour workout. Eclectic mix of people attended to show support of this new Memphis business. So happy I opened up to try cycling despite the intimidating rumors. If you're skeptical of trying CYCLEBAR because of those rumors, I recommend you give it a try. They showed me how to check in, marked a locker for me, provided shoes, towel and gave me a water bottle. The class was a good mix of speed work, strength training and there was even a track to work the upper body. These classes are very popular and I was lucky to get a spot early in the week. I gave this place a try off a friends recommendation and loved it. I have to admit I was a little nervous having not done a cycle class in years, also this is sort of a boutique workout so I as expecting kind of lets say stuck up group. I was so surprised the people here are so nice and helpful took my nervousness away. When you walk in the door you are always greeted and the instructors actually remember you, they check their sign in sheets to see who is attending...I thought that was pretty cool that they care that much. In class they push you but also remind you to go at your own pace, I am slower not where the instructor or a lot of people in the class are but it does not bother me because everyone is so encouraging. The music and lights kind of distract you from the workout itself and makes it go by so fast, some of the classes even have music videos which is another great distractions. The gym itself is super clean and trendy and with that you pay a little more, I am ok with paying a little more for really nice people and a great workout! Even if you are not a huge fan of cycling give this place a try...might change your mind! read more

Love Cyclebar. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. The bikes have way more technology than previous spin bikes I am used to. I'm a road cyclist, but enjoy the change of pace of spin class. The music is loud, which I like, and there is a feeling of competition for overall ride success or individual races during each session. You are not forced or shamed into performing any aspect of the class and you can just spin you legs and watch the occasional video. read more

I have been to 3 classes. I have highly enjoyed each one. They have been challenging and fun. Each instructor has a different tempo and music style which I have enjoyed. I am a traditional road cyclist and ride 20-60 miles a week. Everyone has been nice and it was a real welcoming atmosphere for riders of all levels. read more

First the good. Website is awesome, I was able to sign up for a class using my phone, and I love being able to reserve a spot. The price was very reasonable for a 1 time class (we are just passing through town). Upon arriving, the staff were very pleasant and made sure I understood the lockers, shoes, cycleroom, etc. They even supply cycling shoes for everyone! Now you are probably wondering why I rated this a 2. I have been taking spin classes for about 20 years. I am also an avid cyclist - I have ridden across several states, and ridden is 4 other countries. The class itself is what I have a problem with. It had the feel of a spin class from 10 to 15 years ago - where you do a LOT of resistance on the wheel, and try to pedal fast with high resistance. Spin classes stopped doing this years ago because it is really, really bad for knees. In addition, when I looked around, people were using terrible, terrible form - maybe ok if all you are doing is a spin class, but many people think spin classes can translate to riding on the road. They can, if the instructor provides good input on proper form and technique, which this instructor did none of - she just encouraged people to push and push and do more. The most important thing is for an instructor to make sure everyone knows how to fit their bike to themselves, and has proper technique which was completely absent. After the class, I received an email with my "place" for the class. I was 9 out of 20. This too, I feel motivates people just for more power, more resistance and faster pedaling rather than someone just doing the best they can for that day, and doing it in a safe and effective way. I love the way this place is set up, but I feel they need to learn how to have safer, better classes. read more

After being convinced, by my wife, to try this new way to exercise. It will be fun she said. I thought I would be a 1 class and done guy. You know, check it off my list and go back to the gym. My initial class started with a friendly greeting by the owner as soon as I walked in the door. I was immediately shown the shoes. The lockers were simple to use, but of course we have all been using lockers since middle school so no explanation was needed. I was given a water bottle with a chilled water station to fill up my bottle. I was excited to have a free party gift for my one and done experience. I walked into the room and I was shown to my bike by the instructor. After a few minutes another employee asked if I needed help adjusting my bike. She actually took time to make sure I was in the correct positions on every adjustable part of the bike. The class started and from that very second I've been hooked. They have a great variety of "Cyclestars" leading the class. I've tried almost all of them and have yet to have an even sub par class. Each instructor starts the class with a slow deliberate explanation of how to click on and how the bike works. They even hang around to chat after the class. It's an all around great atmosphere! I always run into friends at every class. If you have not tried this class they even offer a short ride on Saturdays as an intro to CycleBar. Don't be last to catch the craze... It's not the brand, its this particular location. My work splits me between here and out west. When I take classes out there the CB locations are professionally run, the classes are fun and the studio is super clean and stocked. Every time I visit this location, there is someone behind the front desk playing with their phone. There is a serious lack of attention to cleanliness and detail. I have had 2 bikes that were broken, the lockers always are dirty/have debris from last user and bathrooms are dirty. They never show any videos at this location when you take like they do at others. I would highly recommend Cyclebar, but just not this location. read more

First and foremost, let me just say that I never EVER saw myself attending a spin class in my entire life. While I have been into fitness for a few years now, encouraged by my husband who has been an avid bodybuilder for the last ten years, the very thought of being stuck on a bike for almost an hour with no method of discreet escape was less than appealing to me. In fact, it scared the heck out of me! Enter: Cyclebar. When this location first opened a few months ago a co-worker informed me that they would be running a special of free rides for the first week and suggested that I try a class. I was hesitant to say the least. Luckily for me, she caught me right at a point in my "fitness journey" where I had decided to challenge myself by trying something that pushed me out of my comfort zone (read: scared me senseless). Yaaaayyyy... I took some time to look at the website which was very informative and user-friendly. They actually had information detailing what to expect for your first spin class which helped ease some of my anxiety. After running myself out of excuses for about an hour and convincing both my very supportive husband and very cardio-resistant sister to join me on the adventure, I signed us all up and hoped for the best. I also need to add that I was completely impressed with the registration process. You create a customized profile with all of your personal specs (height/weight/shoe size, etc.) and preferences. You actually reserve a spot by viewing the layout of the class and selecting a specific bike which was a particular comfort to me... knowing that I was guaranteed a secure spot tucked away in the back where no one would be able to see my inevitably brilliant failure. With my heart in my throat I stepped through the doors early Saturday morning and suddenly my fear began melting away, somehow replaced by inexplicable excitement. I was blown away by the design and the energy I felt as soon as I walked in. With almost 50 people swarming about and a few instructors standing by to assist, I was impressed with how well we were all taken care of. Because I had read through some of the info on the website, I had an idea of what to expect regarding the shoes, water bottles, towels, "clipping in," etc. Figuring out the locker situation was pretty common-sense to me, but I could tell that some others were a little confused. If you have any questions at all, you literally just ask someone and a VERY FRIENDLY person will help you right away. I had expected a few hurdles/rough patches getting everyone set up considering this was one of the first classes for this location with a lot of first-timers like myself, but I was surprised with how informative, friendly, and helpful all of the staff were. We quickly made our way into the studio right on schedule and again my expectations were blown out of the water. The room was nothing like I had imagined...I felt like I had stepped into a music video or something. The atmosphere was what I can only describe as "electric," and I was suddenly anxious to begin. Our instructor was Julie. She was extremely sweet and patient while she made the rounds helping everyone adjust their seats and clip in to their bikes. The clipping-in part was a little tricky, but with her help, we figured it out. The music started, Julie greeted the class with more energy than I ever expected out of anyone that early on a Saturday morning, and just like that...we were off! By the end of the class, my husband and I immediately rushed to the front desk and bought a package for more classes. It was AMAZING. The music was great, the energy was incredible, the instructor encouraged us throughout the ride to push ourselves but also constantly reminded us to just do our best. She had great control over the room, kept our excitement up the entire time, and I can honestly say that I have never had so much fun while sweating SO MUCH. The technology they use is actually pretty innovative and I loved how they used our profiles to show where we placed in the class. The added friendly competition helped me to push myself a lot further than I ever thought possible. They use your stats that you enter when you register so that they can measure your personal best against everyone else's... That way the people who could put out more power (my husband) weren't at an unfair advantage/disadvantage compared to those who excelled at speed (me). For the record, I beat him by 4 places :). Overall, our experience was beyond anything we could have hoped for. We've been back since, and will be there this weekend! Lengthy review, I know, but if anyone out there finds themselves wishing they could try it but as scared as I was, all I can say is GO FOR IT! My experience at Cyclebar was not very pleasant. The staff was not very helpful. I had to ask for help regarding everything. And still was never shown how the lockers work. I ended up placing my shoes in the locker and leaving it unlocked. Then carried my keys and phone with me inside cycle room. Luckily, i've been taking spin class for 7 years so I know how to adjust my bike. None of the staff offered any assistance with that either. The cycle instructor did tell me how to clip-in but didn't inform me on how to clip-out. The cycle room was nice but the bikes sit too close together. Once the class started I quickly realized I did not like the instructors way of teaching the class. She cycles too fast at a high resistance. Plus the pace doesn't go along with the music. It's like she's off beat and has no rhythm. It was hard to follow along because the music was too loud and I couldn't hear anything she was saying. I became frustrated and didn't see myself sitting through 50 minutes of this torture. So I left my shoes clipped in and politely walked out. I'll stick to the spin classes at my gym. read more
