A closeup of the Nephew's bite-sized pack of cream puffs

Back in the days of old, mom and dad usually brought my nephew to this nearby Korean bakery. Since they're resting in peace, I'm continuing the practice. He's a local and when I visit (often) it's an easy stop since they're inside Lotte Plaza Market. Uber-convenience brings us back for more. After grocery shopping in Lotte, having lunch next door, or finishing a meal at the food court also inside Lotte - a cinch. These folks sell popular Korean pastries similar to Shilla and other k-bakeries. We routinely eye and grab the same goodies. Nephew likes: -Cream puffs: Bite-sized; fun for kids -Soboro: Korean streusel bread w/peanut crumble topping -Milky slushy taro boba smoothie My picks pair well w/black coffee or plain tea: -Steamed cake: Very spongy bouncy cake - fave -Castella cake: Firm sponge cake -Madeleines: Do you see a pattern here? :) We usually pay by cash and I'm guessin' they've nicknamed me "quarters" lol. No elaboration needed, right? Friendly easygoing staff always ready to share a smile. They offer a medley of pastries and cakes so give this local spot a go.

My family loves the Asian pastries here. We regularly get the red bean, coconut cream, custard cream, and butter cream. But have also gotten mocha cream and ham. Their mango bubble drinks are the best (as determined by my children!). More like creamy milkshakes and rich in flavor. The cappuccino bubble drink is great too. Located in the Lotte Plaza Asian/International Market.

It's so tempting to stop here after a grocery trip to Lotte since it's right by the left entrance/exit and there are dozens of delicious looking baked treats on display. I really like the consistency of their bubble teas; they make their thicker, almost like a milkshake, and their boba (the little round things) always taste fresh, chewy, and delicious. I've tried the mango and taro flavors, and I like both although the mango tastes nothing like real mango. It's still good though. A medium size bubble tea is $2.99 and a large is $3.99, so the prices are great. I haven't tried a bunch of the baked items except for the little macaron looking things. They were okay - very airy and extremely sweet. They pair well with hot coffee for sure. I love how friendly the employees always are, and I also love the handmade signs. They add a unique touch. They always have free samples out to try by the register as well. Among the hidden treasures inside Lotte, this place is definitely worth trying.

    Look at the ugly handwriting...

I'm only giving this 1 star review for the bakery place in Lotte Plaza. This is the cake I got today, look at the ugly handwriting. Please, anyone can do better than that. I've NEVER seen uglier handwriting on a cake than this one. I'm so disappointed. On top of that, when my dad went to pick up the cake, the cashier just grabbed a cake from the display, and my dad said he didn't want that one because we pre-ordered it a few days ago, and obviously it wasn't freshly made today. Then the cashier got one from the back, which we don't know if it was made today or a couple days ago. Again, the cake didn't have any writing on it, but we requested when we pre-ordered it. So they probably just took the cake to the back and did the writing while my dad was waiting. Anyways, you all can see how ugly that writing is. Did they hire a 5 year old to do that? Who knows. I'm just letting you guys see it. If you guys don't wanna ruin your birthday and waste your money, then DON'T order cake from them. Enough said.

Most people, especially on weekends and days off, have time to go out and shop--but you close quite early, which limits that opportunity. These kinds of hours don't make much sense for a popular bakery. It feels more like an office schedule than a customer-focused business. If you had more flexible hours, more people would be able to enjoy the quality you offer.

I should've gotten the smaller box since it'll cost more and you pay by weight, but I tried many things like the Finger Baklava, Rice Cookie, Portokalopita cake slice, Chickpea Cookies, Bamieh, Zulbia, Diamond Baklava, and a Mini Rollet. My faves were the Portokalopita for its custard and slight orange flavor, the Mini Rollet (very simple yet tasty to me), Rice Cookie, and Chickpea Cookie. The chickpea cookie tasted exactly like an Indian sweet or cookie which I loved. I was a bit disappointed with the Zulbia, Bamieh, and Baklava. I expected a stronger rose flavor in the Zulbia and Bamieh. I am also used to Zulbia (or Jalebi) having saffron too. The Baklava was good, but not the best I've had- it was lacking rosewater or orange blossom essence. Overall, glad I came to sample a bunch. There's other pastries I'm still curious to try like the mango cake slice. For a middle eastern pastry review though, it was okay. Not bad.

Looking for a Brunch spot in the area, I brought this up as a choice and it is here, we arrived…read more Both my friend and I have been to this spot many times before. I decided to try something different and surprisingly I had never had this anywhere else either: Chicken & Waffles. You get 4 Belgian Waffle quarters and 2 nice sized pieces of chicken tenders and a little container of organic maple syrup. The chicken was seasoned well, juicy and had a slight crunch in parts of the pieces. I dipped a piece of the chicken and waffle and poured a little syrup on, and it was tasty. To wash it down I also got a cup of mango juice. I have had many mangoes (in fruit form) and this was not as sweet as I had hoped. My friend shared it could have been because it was fresh, but for me, the mango wasn't fully ripe yet (that was the taste I got). Towards the end of my drink, I decided to shake my cup up a little bit to shake up the juice and that helped a little. Two of my favorite staff members (Genesis and her mom, Maritza) were in-house and it was great to see them again. One of them shared that I should try the Blueberry Greek Yogurt Smoothie. I totally did not notice that on the chalkboard as I would have tried it. I always enjoy trying new things here. Until next time.
